Review Madang Korean Bbq - Mitcham

Good coal based K-BBQ Nice clean and welcoming vibe. Good options on the menu that isn't just pure BBQ Portions are decent and the sides accompany the set menus well without being too heavy on the wallet. Great for small/medium groups.

Amazing Angus ribs marinated, definitely my favourite! Really good Korean BBQ. The corn was delicious as the kimchi soup. A little bit disappointed with the fried plate (chicken wings, prawns, could have more flavour into it or sauce) Would definitely come back

A really lovely family run Korean BBQ place - great interior design, nice lighting, fun music. Was super impressed by how friendly and helpful the wait staff were. The meat was yummy and well priced. I probably wouldn't have the beef bulgogi or fried chicken again, but the soups and the steamed egg were flavourful and delicious! I love how it's a family run business, dad in the kitchen, mum at front of house and kids waiting tables. Really great local place - we should all go and support!
Hi
The food was delicious, and amazing. The interior design was spot-on, and the atmosphere was fresh! Overall, I felt comfortable because the food was visually appealing and tasted delicious. The staff were very friendly! 100% would recommend :)

The bbq set was cheaper compared to many other places with 85 p2. But the meat was not much. The portion was perfect for two people who are not big eaters with the other stuff included in the set, like stew, corn cheese etc But if you are a big eater you may need to order some extra. I would recommend the marinated short ribs. The dipping sauces could be better.

Been here a few times. Always had the set menus as it never disappoints particularly the wagyu beef one. Soft, mouth melting and tender meat. Delicious!! The waiters/waitresses were attentive most of the time but sometimes can be over-attentive in cooking the meat on the charcoal which is at times annoying, particularly with people like myself who know how to cook beef/steak and have been to many Korean BBQ restaurants before with a similar charcoal set up. Perhaps for next time, they can just ask the table whether they need assistance in cooking and if the customer says no, then leave them be to cook by themselves. Overall, I was very happy with the food and the customer service in general. The price in my opinion is on the reasonable to high end spectrum.

Always wanted to try the place having driven by countless times but it gets booked out early for weekend dinners, so best to reserve beforehand. Decor is really nice and modern, and service is pretty attentive. Had the traditional set for 2, and have to say it was just OK despite the strong google reviews. Thought that $79 was abit steep for the average tasting beef scotch fillet and pork belly. Perhaps we got a bad batch, or ordered the wrong dish.

Given this place is near us, I decided to give it a go on a Friday night. A few observations I'd share: The trio set was quite average - eye and scotch fillet were lacking both in quality and freshness. I go and pay premium for meat at these restaurants on the assumption that their meats will be better than what I buy at local butchers. Clearly wasn't the case. Side dishes were appaling. Shredded Kimchi and fish cake aren't exactly what you'd expect from a K-BBQ place like this. Pork belly really let me down too. I would suggest finding a different supplier, as for all your other meats. Fresh pork belly, or one that has never been frozen, cooks and tastes very different to the pork we tried last night. Overall, it was not one of my better dining experiences. And I'm not even comparing to premium BBQ joints in Korea, just to the few I've been to in the CBD.

Servers were not very friendly. Especially the younger ones. Who would have thought.

Best seafood stew ever. Packed with flavour and ingredients- can't fault this at all. Wings were also delicious. Seafood pancake however was soggy and oily- quite a disappointment compared to everything else we ordered. Excellent service, great ambience. Will definitely return, just not for the pancake.

My friends, fiancé and I enjoyed a lovely Korean bbq meal here last night and really enjoyed the food.

It’s a little noisy, if you want to catch up with friends and chat, but the food is fantastic.

I’d definitely recommend and will return.

My friend took me to this new Korean bbq that opened recently in Mitcham and it was one of the best places I’ve been to so far! We ordered the set for three people and there were so much food and all so tasty! Service was very quick and staff was very friendly!
Alice
Portion is a bit small and this is all the meat you get for 2 people set menu. The meat quality is great tho. Maybe I should try 4 ppl set menu.

Came here for the first time and was pleasantly satisfied by the food. Staffs constantly change the grill after every serve of meat which is appreciated, the only down side is that they can be a bit pricier than other Korean BBQ places nearby.

An awesome local Korean restaurant that has a great vibe and quality food. I have yet to try the Korean BBQ but the a la carte menu is extensive and delicious. The interior is modern and clean and the staff are attentive and friendly. I have always found Korean food to be a bit pricey but the portions are generous with quality ingredients. The place is usually very busy and they don’t take bookings before 7:30pm. Highly recommended for a satisfying Korean feed!

We visited here with another couple for a good KBBQ experience and were not disappointed. The restaurant has great ambience and is fitted with gorgeous brass exhaust fans to keep the place nice and smoke-free. The waiters weren’t exactly rude but they certainly weren’t friendly and we had to wait a long time to order and a long time before our drinks and then eventually our food arrived. We ordered two set menus and shared everything (which is the best KBBQ Experience). The meats (wagyu, pork belly etc) were cooked fantastic and the sides were well seasoned. A little pricey but definitely worth it for the quality of food. Will definitely be back.

At first I was a bit sceptical based on the price and what looked like smaller portions, but I was wrong. The fusion set was great perfect amount for 2 people. Meat super tender, the crab claws in the tempura platter were perfect.

Clean place, very helpful and attentive staff who cook the meats and good value sets for BBQ meats that were fresh and tender and not overly fatty. Very popular place even on a weeknight so booking is recommended.
Emma
Great friendly service. Food was fresh and tasty. We ordered a noodle dish that came finished from the kitchen and also some pork and beef that was cooked on the grill on our table. $60 for two adults and we were both full. Great experience, would recommend this place.

Great Korean BBQ option in the area. Neat, modern setting with a great range of options on the menu (including vegetarian). The staff are efficient and helpful and cook the meats to perfection!

We’ve drove pass this place so many times and every time we drove pass, I’ve always pointed it out to my bf. Finally, we decided to get out of the car and give it go.

We didn’t have a reservation so we had to wait a couple of minutes for them to clean a table and we were seated and given the menu. After the cleaned the table they left the dirty cloth on our seat which I found pretty off putting. We waited a hot minute for some customer service. No one bothered looking at us or checking up on us. Literally non existent. Finally after waving our hands like maniacs we finally got someone’s attention. We ordered the Korean fried chicken - half soy garlic and half sweet chilli ( which is an extra $2), cheese buldak, and some meats for our Korean bbq.

The Korean fried chicken was delicious. The chicken was succulent and full of flavour. It had a good crunch to it and was dripping in sauce. I really enjoyed both flavours!

We then started out bbq. We ordered the Black Angus scotch fillet, Black Angus beef short ribs and pork belly. I really enjoyed the Black Angus scotch fillet! Also, the wait staffs cooks the meat for you which is nice. As always, make sure you don’t depend on them and take the meat off the fire as soon as you think it’s done. The pork belly was standard. I love pork belly and every time I order it, it just taste the same.

We then received our cheese buldak. We opted for the teriyaki chicken because we’re not the biggest fan of spice and the flavours were there but it was quite sickening. I’ve had better elsewhere.

Overall, not a bad Korean restaurant. Great place to take family and friends. Food was flavoursome however there’s better Korean joint out there
Vibe was good however the staff appear to be bit overwhelmed and were slow to respond. They ran out of an entry dish in the set menu but refuse to let me replace with cold noodle even if I am happy to pay for difference in price - can only replace within entry menu. Feel it’s a bit of a silly rule. They lady wasn’t particularly friendly, though I wouldn’t say she’s rude. Generally, not a best experience and probably won’t go back.

Nice place
Excellent customer services
But the bbq meat could be improved a bit more.
Cheese corn is not bad though.
Will try other main course next time

Restaurant looks nice but staff seems too busy to care, bit rude when serving BBQ on the table, meat are burned and hard to chew. Very disappointed. Put raw meat on top of cooked meat, I was worried about the it, hope it wont make me sick later. Food looks nice, but lots of beef were too hard to chow, my 6yrs daughter did not eat any meat because of too chewy.

This is officially my new favourite korean bbq restaurant in Melbourne !!! The staff extremely attentive and helpful, they always have a warm smile across their face that makes me feel very welcome. Not only is the service exceptional, but the food is on a whole different level. My husband steven has always been a picky man, even when I cook for him he does not utter even a word of joy, however when we went to madang, it was a different story. His mouth could not stop eating! I have never seen him so excited around food, therefore it is obvious that madang korean bbq is out of this world!!! Highly recommend, I would give a million stars if I could. Will definitely come again, many times.

My family told me of this Korean bbq restaurant in mitcham to which we booked a table at 6. Upon arriving there was no free table as we told the waitress of our booking she advised a 5 minute wait. 15 minutes down and only 1 table had received their food. As it was looking like a long wait we left.
Dissapointing they gave away our table and made us stand in the middle of the packed restaurant being in the way of all the wait staff with a child.
Not going to bother again.

Friendly staff and service was good. We had pork belly and Angus beef steak traditional set. The
meat was very tender and juicy. I didn't have desert but it looks nice.

I visited with a work friend on a weekday night, we had the Fusion Banquet. The service was very friendly, they were very efficient when we asked for refills on the starters. Food, absolutely delicious! They come and cook the meat for you & explain to you that they will be doing so, they make sure it is cooked to how you like it. The starters that come out include kim chi, bean sprout dish & crab cake, plus a salad, all of which are delicious! The salad has a really nice dressing, couldn't quite make out what it was. There is a corn dish which has melted cheese & herbs, delicious. Also a tempura plate to share, crab, prawns etc, coated in a really nice crumb and cooked to perfection. For dessert we had ice-cream, I had green tea and my friend had red bean, the best green tea ice-cream i have had to date. Price was very fair also, I often find these sort of places over priced, not this one. Atmosphere lovely, the place is about 1 year old so everything is fairly new. I really couldn't fault this place & I don't say that often, usually there's something that doesn't stand out as much, but this restaurant is 10/10 & I highly recommend to anyone who will be going to Mitcham. Thank-you Madang Korean BBQ, I will be returning with more friends!

The restaurant was nice and the staff were kind. The price seemed expensive for the food. I paid a lot of money, but I am hungry. And it is very slow.
The_littlehungrylife
I think the food here was pretty good. The portion sizes were fair and I did think that the price was expected. I do have to say it's important to book and also be there on time, as they will try and rush you out so they can prepare for the next round of customer bookings.

As a foodie, there is nothing better than being recommended a place. Extra points are given, if you can trust the person sending you that recommendation. Welcome to one hell of an amazing night! This. Is. Madang!. Located in Mitcham, this place is actually a chain (which came as a surprise to me, but then over the course of the night… not so much). The interior was nice and well lit. Although getting parking here is a nightmare. I highly recommend you carpool or have your dinner suffer.
Happy Tasting
One of the mest Korean BBQ in Melbourne. Good atmosphere, quality of meat was good and wonderful services. Only the chicken wings was a bit oily. Definitely will go again! Highly recommend.

The staffs here are super friendly and helpful. The combo has big portions, price is also fair. Food is amazingly good. The kids really loved their pork belly and fried chicken wings.

I don’t usually write reviews. But this time I went to the Madang BBQ restaurant. And the food was so lovely and good. After work, I drank beer with pork belly. It’s really made me relieve from stress from the day.😋 Also, I liked the friendly smiles from the staff.😁
I think it’s probably the best BBQ in Melbourne.
I like pork belly~💪🤤

I have been here a couple of times and it impressed.

The first time was only a few days after it opened and I tried the Pork Bulgogi which was awesome.

The second time we came back for the BBQ, which was even better.

A great experience for those not familiar with Korean BBQ, and a satisfying one for those who are.
Entered this restaurant for dinner on a busy Thursday night. The soy garlic chicken wings were reasonably crispy with subtle flavour. The kimchi pancake wasn't as crispy as usual. I felt it was overly oily. Overall food was average.

Actually this place is better than I had expected.
The place is not smokey at all when entered as they have suctioning for it. Love the interior, very modern and spacious.
Meat for the bbq was tasty and well marinated. Ox tongue was ok but a bit chewy.
Even though staff were attentive, I personally felt as though i couldn't hold onto a conversation with my husband without the staff continuously interupting to come to cook and turn the food for you...maybe that's the whole idea of their service?
It did felt a little rushed because staff will cook for you and we had to eat faster as the meat will be over cooked if left on the side of the grill.
It is definitely a great asset to Mitcham and convenient as it's so close to home.

Been there twice, excellent food, very attentive staffs, very reasonable price, love their fried chicken wings, BBQ is very good as well. Cold noodle is a must try

It’s ok. Food wise are not super good or super bad. The only thing that I wanted to say is slow. The staffs is good, friendly and quite attentive so all ok. We ordered the BBQ and there was another family coming around 10-15 minutes after us but they only ordered the normal food (not BBQ). Their food arrived, they ate and left and we haven’t even got the charcoal’s pot. So at this moment I will rather go somewhere else than come back here.

Meat was on point - we had the pork belly and beef ribs 👍👍 Love the interior - clean, minimal yet warm colour tone. The staff we had tonight were great and charcoal cooked our meat to perfection with a slight crisp on the outside and tender inside without overcooking. Side dishes could be refilled whenever we ran out. The only negative I will say about this place was the price of the lettuce - $7 for about 10 pieces. Some other places provide lettuce with your meal for free!
Andrew
Amazing! The best meal out I have had in a long time.. They have done an excellent job of the interior, very modern and tasteful. We are so glad it is just around the corner and hope that it doesn't become too popular that we can't get in. If they keep producing like they did tonight I'm sure it will 😔

On a warm Saturday evening, Mama Madang fired up the charcoal and treated us with wagyu beef and fat dripping pork belly from the traditional set for two. Egg soufflé and soft tofu stew was included in the set and both were equally good. Cooking service was very good as they help you with the cooking whenever they can (busy night). We prefer to do it ourselves but picking up those thongs will result in someone approaching and doing the cooking for you. It was, however, costly considering the amount of meat they give you.

Went with my friend for the first time this week. Interior and exterior were super nice and simplistic! Good vibes, super cool interior, super nice water jugs, super nice meat, super nice side dishes, super nice service, super nice prices too!

Had an extremely beautiful meal at Madang. We had the traditional set I believe with pork belly and the angus beef. Beef was especially nice, highly recommend! Staff were curteous and kind and warned you to be careful of the hot plates which was great. Overall a very fine dining experience!

Friendly, happy family service. Delicious variety, fresh ingredients. Excellent atmosphere with a tastefully renovated interior. Can't wait to go back!

Had the traditional kbbq set- the stew had way too much MSG, the overall they dont give you alot to eat, the size of the rice bowl is tiny. Not sure if they are stingy with their serving because the side dishes are tiny too- one bite and its pretty much gone.

Absolutely fantastic! This would have to be the nicest place in Mitcham to dine. Decor is fresh and modern, staff are friendly and the food is really good! Being vegetarian, you rarely get the true Korean bbq greatness but Madang has great vegetarian options. We ordered the corn cheese to share and I had the mushroom hot stone bibimbap with a peach soju to share. The food was great! Loved the corn and the hot bowl was so tasty! Highly recommend the peach soju! Will definitely be heading back in the near future. Would probably recommend booking as it was pretty busy and almost full on a Tuesday night!

BBQ was good. Liking the interior of this new place. Meat tasted fresh, juicy and tender. Let down was their stews, I understand that the taste is different to the norm, but I felt like it was just not quite there in terms of the taste. Rather bland.

You're definitely paying premium price for the meat at this place. Expensive, and there are other K-BBQ competitors.

See you soon maybe, Madang!

Been so excited for this new Korean BBQ in mitcham. However was such a disappointment. Ordered ox tongue, which was the hardest chewing ox tongue I have ever had. My jaws are sore from it, I guess if you want a bit of exercise for your jews it is recommended. The chilli pork belly is ok but certainly wouldn't considered to be tasty. The service was poor as well. When I ask to put half of the plate on the BBQ at a time, the girl didn't seem impressed about it at all. Not the most friendly bunch of people at all. Even the all you can eat kbbq in box hill was better. Definitely not recommended if you want some authentic Korean BBQ. Will not go back.

Honestly I have to say this was such a pleasant diner outing. The service was very good and all the good was perfect. We purchased the Meal for 3 package which was more than enough and could probably have fed 4 to be honest. Will be returning for sure, high class dining in Mitcham, I approve 👌🏻
Diana
Awesome! It is lovely to have such an nice restaurant close by. Chicken wings and vegetable dumplings were amazing. Extensive menu plenty to choose from. Looking forward to going back and trying different things.
Julian
Yummy Tteok-bokki. Slightly on the expensive side but worth it. Decor is very modern and service efficient and friendly. Saw quite a few Koreans dining there so it must be good.
I Only Eat Junk Food
Came on a whim, was pleasantly surprised. The kbbq tasted good, food came quickly and service was friendly. Whilst not the absolute best Korean BBQ restaurant, it was overall an excellent experience.
Ava Hampson
Excellent fast, friendly service and amazing food. We got the Trio BBQ Set which was more than enough food for 3 people. Great price for the sheer amount of dishes you get and quality. The overall aesthetic and decor of the restaurant is also wonderful, modern and industrial but still inviting and friendly. Cannot wait to come again. Thank you!
Christy Kang
Lovely and ambient atmosphere to enjoy Korean BBQ with family or friends! Love the interior and their menu design, very oriental yet modern and classic. Not to mention their amazing food, especially their marinated beef and beef skirt were just mouthwatering. Very friendly staff and great service too. Sure will visit again to try their lunch menus!
AaronN
Was pretty excited to try this place,as I'm a big fan of Korean food and it was nice to see one open locally. I came in for lunch, and was disappointed to be told that they didnt actually do bbq meats until the dinner service. So instead we ended up ordering the japchae (very bland),beef bulgogi (not bad),and soy garlic chicken (merely ok). So overall the food was ok,but not a standout.
The service whilst friendly, was a bit slow, and the staff seemed to struggle with English and a few questions that we had. The decor was very nice though.
Not sure we would strongly recommend,as there are better korean places in Box Hill, however will try to come back for dinner service to see if their bbq meats are nice.

New Korean restaurant in Mitcham, and the only one (I think). Tried the lunch special, ordered the honey soy crispy chicken, beef bulgogi and kimchi fried rice. My gosh, they were all so good! Sorry, no photos cuz I was digging in when the food arrived. Will be back for their bbq sometime next week.
