We were thrilled to finally find something a little different on the menu.. and found it in the quality, flavours and variety of beautiful dishes from Railway Tiffin. The street food in particular have been delightful to slowly work through - Pani Puri being a regular favourite, that still makes us go wow when we open the box! We havenβt yet eaten in but this is our new go to for ordering Indian!
My partner and i always order takeout from here after a big weekend out. Great, consistent food, really fast delivery and friendly staff. Love this place 11/10
The name of this business; 'Railway Tiffin' really appeals to me. I think it's because I just think tiffins are so cute, and I like the idea of working somewhere and having little a stack of tiffins, each with a different and delicious treat inside, delivered to me, is wonderful.
This place wont win any style awards, but there is some banquet seating, and tables. Right now, Railway Tiffin is hidden behind tradie fencing and trucks, but it's open for business as usual. The young man who severed me was shy, but friendly. He waited patiently while I perused only one side of the menu (wish he'd told me there was another side). In any case, dining solo as I was, I was never going to be able to order all the things I wanted to try - even without seeing the 'street food' side - but next time!
A Chicken Makhani, 'Station Master' Roti, 'Green' chutney (coriander and mint - and it was subtly green, not lurid green, suggesting no food colouring added) were ordered. I was given an option to heat - but it's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string' isn't it? I said that I like it 'quite hot' but what I think of as 'quite hot' may be different to another person. In spite of this, they managed to get the heat to pretty much my maximum tolerance. I got the sniffles while eating this, delicious and rich meal. Plenty of chicken, and lots of sauce. When I'd asked for the roti, I was asked how many, initially saying one. It was suggested two would be better, given their size. In truth, I probably did only *need* one, but the reality is I was soooo glad I had two - because they were delicious. My chutney was the perfect foil to the heat of the makhani. A warming and filling meal for one, sadly I could try no more. Loved my tin cup for drinking.
Would absolutely revisit with other diners to try more. Β It might be time for a menu upgrade as the texta crossing out prices and new prices is a little difficult to follow.
I thought this was one of the best Indian places I've been to in Melbourne. It's almost just a hole in the wall but the food is amazing. They do haleem every day and it's delicious. Pair it with chilli and garlic naan which just tastes divine! Also don't forget to try the mogo chips, which is an East African specialty. I loved it. Will go again!
What an incredible find. Don't let the simple decor turn you off. This little place hidden next to Mitcham Railway Station serves some seriously good Indian, with many choices that many diners would never have tried.
The street food selection was particularly impressive, and we chose Dav Bhaji (simply but delicious vegi curry served with a tosted bun) - Awesome! Also tge Dahi Puri was "fun" to assemble and eat, with the flavour filled Puri "bombs" bursting in my mouth.
Our mains were a fantastically and perfectly cooked Dhal of kidney beans and a lamb saag (spinach). The Chilli Nan is a perfect way to additional spice to the meal.
Give this place a try for eat in, or alternatively give the take away a try.
Yummy Yummy
I ordered a Prawn Masala to take away for dinner. It was very delicious. Thank you for the nice meal. I highly recommended this place and would definitely go back.
Great Indian! We get a lot of takeaway from this restaurant and it's always great. My husband has Coeliac disease and it's always carefully gluten-free. We really like the Mogo chips, and the Railway Station Lamb Curry is delicious. Good rice too - I really like the Pulao Rice.
Fantastic food, have been twice in two weeks. Flavours are great, and unlike many Indian places the food is not greasy. Would definitely be back and recommend others to give it a go.
Really good food. Ordered indian street food Dabeli, Pavbhaji, Vada pav and Kachori very delicious. Next time will try mains. I love this place.
I love this place. Only ever order takeaway but I'm never disappointed. Food is delicious, the owners are lovely, and they offer a wide range of authentic dishes, not just Anglo faves like butter chicken. My vegetarian husband is a fan too, with many tasty veg dishes on offer.
Have had takeaway food here a handful of times now and never been disappointed! The food is always delicious, very nicely spiced and the menu has a great selection of dishes. The option for street food is definitely a highlight.
To top it off, the staff are very friendly, go out of their way to be helpful and welcome you with a smile. Highly recommended!
Amazing food. The place looks very underwhelming and you would almost walk straight past it. It is very small and looks to be a takeaway store more than a sit in restaurant. We stopped in for a work lunch after spying this place from the train station. Service was warm and friendly and we took the recommendations of the staff. Flavours were full and varied with each dish having its own exquisite taste. This is now going to be added to the local rotation and will be back again.Did I mention we had an array of dishes: curries, naan, croquettes, samosas and a handful of others for only $15 per person. Β This place for all it is, really impressed me.
Saturday Night take away, glad they deliver as we would never have driven out that far. Good value for money, great flavours and portions sizes!
Love all the accompaniments, pickle, papadum, raita, and a special shout out to the mango chutney!!! It's been ages since we ordered in ( at these prices) and had a proper home made chutney instead of the store bought variety.
Really really good Indian food!! Ordered takeaway Vegetable Makhani and Chana Masala and it was really good! Flavours were just right, spicyness level was just right, it was great!! Don't be put off by the simple look of the eatery, the food is great, try it!!
Popped in again after a few months and once again had a great meal! Ordered the vegetable biryani with aloo gobi and then the chef went out of his way and made malai kofta - my favourite Indian dish although it isn't on the menu! Tasted great and was blown away by how flexible the chef was. Had a great meal and will definitely be coming back!
Best Indian food in the area, all the food was amazing the curries, appetisers and street food were all so good. Couldn't fault Railway Tiffin the service and prices are also really good!
We ate in with a party of 6. Service with a smile and delicious authentic Indian food. Couldn't recommend it more! Very good value for money. Couldn't go past the Samosas, garlic naan and Rogan Josh - all was fantastic.
This is my 4th visit to this takeaway. I am well and truly hooked.
The food has always been fantastic. After trying several indian eataries we know our Curries
and this is a gem of a find. Service has been fantastic, very affordable too.Excellent value for money. My Fav here is Butter Chicken...simply superb..:)
These guys are very new, they've only been opened 3 weeks, but the food is great, it has a very eclectic menu of regular Indian noms like butter chicken, listed as Makhani on the menu, but also some great street foods you may never have tried before.
Mogo Chips which are made from tapioca/cassava, they taste great with sprinkled with a mix of chilli and salt.
They also have Frankie's which is a Indianised version of a hotdog. It has a shish kebab in place of a hotdog frank, with a bit of salad. Very yum, I used to have them as a kid when my mum had an Indian Take Away joint in Clayton.
Pan Rolls are tasty too, they're more of a Sri Lankan dish but still taste great, I stab one end with the sauce bottle and pump it full of sauce. So tasty.
Last night was my third visit. My usual order at any Indian place is butter chicken and garlic naan. And I'm very happy with the butter chicken here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Railway Tiffin Takeaway dinner. Even our very fussy eating children gobbled it up and asked if can we go back again. Delicious flavors, generous portions and so much to choose from. We particularly enjoyed the Malai Murgh Tikka, Tandoori Jhinga and the Lamb Samosa - superb. Would highly recommend this fresh Indian food!
great food, good quality & taste, customer service & quantity also too good ....... we recommend to all ...... we like to go again .........
Great street food, good size portions and good service, will be going back for sure ππππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
Generous portion sizes. The butter chicken was delicious. It had a slightly sweet zestful taste. The rogan Josh was just right. Everything was cooked to perfection and ready at the time they said. Parking was a little tricky but the loading zone out front was a good spot to stop for a couple of minutes
The food was awesome. I ordered the chicken vindaloo which was super tasty and a nice amount of spiciness which I was please with. Others in my party ordered the chicken vindaloo and they highly recommended it. The naans were also super tasty. The people running the place were super friendly and there was good service. I will definitely be coming back!
The food tasted good. Hospitality was up to the mark. I ordered first class naan plate which consists of 4 naans. The staff was helpful to choose the meal properly. The taste of the dishes were above average as well.
Decent place not for dine in tho .. had pav bhaji and masala chai .. pretty good .. no complaints .. enjoyed my snacks .. happy the chai was not by machine .. and even the bhaji had no colour added to it which is good to see ..
It's been a few months since I was here, because I live in Sydney and came here with a group of friends. The memory of that night - in particular the dinner - is still so fresh in my mind, I just had to write a review. I had the Butter Chicken, which was so flavoursome and with just the right amount of spice. The portion size was astronomically huge compared to what I've seen in other restaurants - it became a struggle to get through it all haha. And the rice? OMG, the rice. I've never tasted rice quite like it before. I'd love to kidnap the chef, bring him (or her) to Sydney, and teach me how to cook rice half as good as that.
No one in our group disliked the food. The service was top-notch as well, the staff were very friendly - I can see why they do such a good takeaway business. Once you've eaten here once, you'll want to do it again and again.
Five stars just doesn't seem to be enough for this place. It was truly one of the greatest meals I've ever had.
I get takeaway from here every now and then and I'm always happy with the food. If you request 'medium' heat you actually get it which is a refreshing change from the norm as generally you don't get any heat if you ask for medium. Lamb Rogan Josh is my favorite, but also love the Tikka Masala with chicken or paneer. They have a great range of appetizers that go with a cold beer perfectly. Delivery time is super quick too. Thoroughly recommend.
