This place is the best Chinese food I have ever had. Every single one of the staff were lovely, extremely polite and amazing. The food is simply to die for. The meals are huge, great value for money and delicious. Highly recommended! Won't ever go elsewhere for chinese food :)

Been to fairy mountain quite a few times in Olinda then followed to monbulk love the food and the service is so friendly and prompt I would recommend fairy mountain a lovely enjoyable place to eat

We were very excited to come and see Fairy Mountain's new Monbulk location. The venue is delightful - cosy warm with a coonara fire, an enchanting painting across the back wall, and charming attention to detail. Soft jazz created a relaxed atmosphere.
Service was prompt and friendly. We were seated and our napkins unfolded; the waiter brought us complimentary prawn crackers and menus. We ordered the calamari as an entree to share and enjoyed it immensely - for a fried dish it was incredibly light and fresh, and perfectly cooked. To follow we had the special fried rice with pork, and the ginger chicken. I've never had such tender chicken in all my life, and this was sliced breast meat!
We first visited Fairy Mountain at Olinda whilst on honeymoon in 2012 and were pleasantly surprised to find that the waiter remembered us.
Fairy Mountain is a delightful first-class restaurant and we can't wait to go again!

Amazing! Impeccable service and even better food. We were struggling to find a good chinese restaurant but tonight we found a great one. I couldn't believe that the fried rice had bean shoots in it - no restaurants out this way do that anymore! The birds nest and cantonese steak were both elegant and mouth watering whilst the steamed chicken dumplings were melt in the mouth.
Can't wait to go back :-)

Chinatown meets the Dandenongs
We have eaten Chinese food in many places and various countries, including the Chinatowns of KL, Penang, Hong Kong, Singapore, and of course Melbourne. The food and service at this little restaurant in the Hills is right up there with the best of them. The decor and ambiance are just right, the floors are carpeted, so there is no clatter of crockery or cutlery from the kitchen or other tables. There are a couple of elegant booths for lucky diners. Conversations are easily had with no need to raise voices; a light tinkle of modern jazz aids the feel of class in the restaurant. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The hand made pork dumplings are a stand-out of a reasonably extensive menu.
I understand this newly renovated premises in Monbulk is the result of a move from Olinda due to some disagreement with the landlord. It may be one of the best things to happen in the sleepy hills town for many a year.
I'm almost reluctant to post this review as, selfishly, I would like to keep this little secret to the locals and ensure I can always get a table, but they deserve better. We have been 4 times since we discovered the place on Fathers day 2015. We intend to be regulars.
If are looking for a great Chinese restaurant don't go past this place. Banquet is excellent and staff are great. Newly setup in monbulk and probably the best place in town
We ate here for lunch today for the first time. So happy they've moved to Monbulk - raised the local eating bar way up. This is a really good Chinese restaurant. Nothing run of the mill about it. Excellent menu. Dishes prepared and served with delicacy. Vegan friendly! Lovely decor. Great service - friendly and accomodating. We'll be back regularly.
We had a fantastic time here. The service was excellent, particularly with the new additions to the staff. We ordered a few different entrees, including the satay skewers and dim sims - all of them were absolutely delicious and came out soon after we ordered! Our mains, which included a fabulous sizzling mongolian lamb, were just as delicious as our entrees and were served to us in a timely manner after our first course. We would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great night out - couples and families alike (definitely a child friendly restaurant). Definitely going to visit this place again soon!

A fantastic restaurant when it operates in Olinda - we went to monbulk today looking for this restaurant but it is NOT located at the address listed on urbanspoon - I can only guess they have moved onto other things - Pitt - it was a great place to eat.
We went there for my mother in law's birthday. I did mention that over the phone. The pleasant surprise was, mum got a glass of bubbly on the arrival. The service was great, the gentleman we had as a waiter was informative and very friendly. The entrees arrived quickly and so did the mains ( giving us a few minutes to digest the starters). Food was fresh and full of flavour. We had beef, seafood and chicken and everything was cooked to perfection. Sauces weren't too heavy. All up, it was a great evening, nothing to fault, food was great, service was great, atmosphere was lovely and we will definitely be back. Worth all the good reviews. Highly recommended!
Wow. What a great local find. Was expecting the traditional, stock standard Chinese but this place is more than that. Interesting and creative twists and superb flavours. Most impressed. Will be back!

Cosy and customer focused. Place was warm and cosy, with the waiter very friendly and attentive. Not busy place. Entree was good pace, but there was a bit of a gap in time between that and mains (45-50 minutes). We got the Barramundi and Spicy combination with Fried Rice. Food was good, not great, but good portion sized. Finished with a deep fried icecream which was really nice, but could probably do with better quality ice cream. But the service and setting there are definetely one of the best I've ever been to. If you want a date night with the woman where talking is more the occasion than the food, then go here! Really enjoyed the night.

We dined there on valentines day the food was to die for.Delicious food we had the banquet A.The rainbow beef melted in your mouth truly the best Chinese Ive had ever.The soup was very good I'm talking 9/10 and 10/10 for the main.However what I did find bizzare was we received our main before our entree lol and the combination birds nest we didn't receive at all.We waited an hour and a half before we got our main meals obviously something was wrong in the kitchen on the night because other patrons were waiting a long time as well.The place was packed too.The food was that good that we shall return on that basis alone.
Suburban Chinese Fare in the Mountains. Had takeaway from here on Sat 3rd August 2013 (we were but a 7 minute drive away, staying at Linden Gardens). I rate this slightly above the average Melbourne suburban Chinese Cafe / Restaurant. We covered all food-groups with our large order; all ingredients were very fresh. But my palate has tasted more authentic Cantonese fare. Nonetheless, I give this place a "tick" ... Can't expect much from a smallish Chinese place this side of Little Bourke Street!
Brilliant!. Went here with a group of 4, not quite knowing what to expect out of chinese restaurant up the mountain, but I have to say it was fantastic. 4 out of 4 diners were stoked with their food, one saying it was the best chinese theyve ever had (I had the roast duck hot pot and it was brilliant and plentiful, best duck I’ve had, but I’ve only had duck twice!). The only chinese I’ve had that compares was either in box hill or china town in the city, but I wouldn’t say that they were better than fairy mountain. I will definitely make this my regular chinese whenever I’ve got that hankering!
I'm fussy with Chinese but this place is amazing! Delicious lean beef, breast chicken and tasty duck! Friendly staff and a fantastic meal midweek. Already recommended to my family and friends and heavily recommend to you too! Ill be back, so happy to finally find a Chinese to go too!

Satisfied local. This is a very pleasant, family-run and family-friendly good value-for-money local Chinese restaurant. The menu is pretty standard and not very adventurous, although the Chef's Specials are good. No doubt there are better Chinese restaurants around, but not in the hills.
