Review Mooloolaba Fish Market - Mooloolaba

Ali S
We have been coming here for years for our seafood; nice local prawns and a wide range of cooked seafood.
Vicki Pickett
Great variety of fresh seafood. One side of the market will cook your pick of fish and chips and other delicious choices. We went with the king Mooloolaba Prawns cooked fresh meaty and very tasty. The sauce was thrown in by the wonderfully animated guy serving. He was so welcoming and fun this made our visit very memorable. Recommend a visit we will be back

First time for sit down Fish & Chips, we normally only buy fresh seafood. Food was great, well cooked & good quantities it was a nice evening sitting on the footpath. Friendly staff and not a long wait time. Will definately go back again, but next time we won't take stubbies & some wine. Unlike the other establishment up the spit, the market doesn't have approval for you to enjoy a drink on their footpath with their lovely food. Whoops!!

Best Fish and Chips Wow! I really wanted that fish and chip fix today and this is the place to get it. Fabulous light crispy batter, yes I wanted batter, and a great piece of fish. Lovely chips. Tartare sauce and lemon included. Next time we’ll get some potato scallops, calamari and prawn. Can’t wait to go back again. Great staff. Extremely helpful.

I buy 5 crabs and 1kg cooked prawn on 07/01/2022 and put in bin. Can’t eat. I think too old. First time I come but never come back.

We have been coming here for quite a few years, but not any more. Happy with their seafood, but can't believe they took down the glass partitions between the customers & the fish at the height of covid. Customers can now touch, cough over & sneeze on the fish, open slather for flies as well. No hygiene there.

Been coming here since we've moved to QLD 4yrs ago, has not yet disapoint me with the quality of seafood. Hands down my No.1 choice, pricey but what isn't these days. Quality 100% & worth every dollar 💵 👌

Ordered seafood basket with extra seafood sauce. Calamari was rubbery. Chips were soggy and tasteless. Battered fish pieces was falling apart. Order wasn't packed correctly despite us asking them to check for completeness and they insisted it is all in there. Always come here whenever I'm in town, but doubt I'll be coming back after this experience.

I love the fresh seafood this venue has and the seating available upstairs to general customers, however the staff need to drop the attitude. Be coming here a few times now and the negativity displayed towards customers and bickering about customers by the seafood service area is not acceptable.. Some self control and resilience would be appreciated it's not like it was even busy. Think it's time they remember who's paying their wages and supporting this local business. This is not just my observations but other customers have also voiced their disappointment outside the venue. It's really unfortunate because there is a high quality of product but the service is what let's much of this potential business down. It appears there is many other customers not happy with the staff behind the counter perhaps it's time to start addressing some of your feedback in practice. Must give thanks and appreciation to the excellent staff upstairs in the licensed area downstairs could take a few tips ! Time visited 12:05 / 9th Feb 2016

Today I ordered a large chips and that is it, the service was disgusting i placed my order at 6:04pm and yes it was a little busy although it doesn't take an hour to cook a basket of chips. I got my food at 7 pm and my chips didnt even look cooked properly i was very disappointed that i didnt even receive decent food after waiting that long nor even a sorry. I will never return to this establishment.

The most amazing and fresh seafood I have had on the sunshine coast! the calamari is one of mine and my husband's favourite's, so tender and FULL of flavour and perfect with fish and chips! The fish is always perfect and cooked beautifully especially the way they do there batter crispy on the outside and soft of the inside mmmmmmmm yummy! I have been coming to Mooloolaba fish market for years and have never had a bad experience with food or staff :)

What a great place to get your seafood the staff cannot be more helpful and always with a smile I cannot fault them and the seafood is to die for! :)

Been going here for bit over 10 years it's the cleanest freshest seafood shop on the coast
Winnie Wong
Super fresh and affordable seafood, casual service with a good view of the deck.
Jane O'Rourke
The fish is the best on the Coast but so is the restaurant The Deck! We go there once a week and wouldn't miss our regular visit!

Amazing! Was glad to find this place while on holidays from Perth. The bugs were massive, well priced and delicious. The Red Emporer was very fresh and half the price compared to home. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Tanya and the girls at Mooloolaba Fish Markets - you are just amazing. Apart from the beautifully fresh seafood, your service and help was above and beyond - fantastic. Thank you so much

Best seafood on the Sunny Coast... Couldn't wait to get our first feed on prawns when we arrived...
Semih Diken
If you are looking for cheap and fresh seafood, this is the place. You can have fish and chips and also fresh seafood such as spanner crab, mud crap, crayfish and Mooloolaba prawns. Grab them and go to second floor, take a beer or white wine and enjoy the sea view.
Howard Collins
Dropped in as felt like fish and chips. Wasn’t disappointed. Generous portions of fish, calamari and chips and the cost was very reasonable. Fed four of us for about $60.
Amie
We had the fish and chips luch pack. The crumbed fish were overcooked and dry. The chips were also overcooked and dry. It was so disappointing as we drove from Brisbane to try it out as everyone was raving on about the place.
Oh well at least the birds enjoyed them...

Could be better! Seafood freshness and cleanliness absolutely 100%. Service 75% - the guy in the fresh seafood was uber helpful and couldn’t do enough for you (100%). The woman on the till in the cooked section was less than friendly (50%). Fresh seafood 70% oysters were good but not great. Prawns were undoubtedly fresh but cooked in way too salty a water so lacked that fresh clean taste. Prices 25% -too expensive for what you get. Probably ok for Sunny Coast but more expensive than the Goldy or Melbourne where we usually get our seafood. Cooked food - 50% chips very average, fish, relatively expensive and small portions, calamari really well done and large serving. Would I go back? Probably not by choice but given lack of real competition, might just have to.

Oh man. This is not just a fish and chip place. They have the freshest seafood for a deal. My fav calamari chip never disappoint. We even got the fresh Juicy prawns from the cold section as entree. You can grab your fish and chips to enjoy it over at the Mooloolaba beach or at the pier

Beautiful seafood market! Had lunch fish burger, moist and yum, fried prawn and delish fried calamari. Then brough home thick juicy baramundi fillet, cooked prawn and delish chilli oyster. Love everything was so fresh. Good view to to eat by the river. Beautiful and cosy place and certainly beautiful and fresh seafood. Unfortunately too hungry to take a pic. A bit pricey compared to Asia but shpuld be fine in the area.

Fresh seafood was fantastic. We also cooked up some fish, prawns and calamari ourselves. Best home cooked hot and cold seafood meal we have had in a long time.
The fresh seafood is good but expensive. The hot fish and chips were terrible, the fish bites were full of bones (one of which were stuck in my throat for hours), the chips were soggy and starchy. They didn't salt the chips and had no salt supplied to add your own. The deepfried scallops had more batter than flesh. One staff member was very nice and helpful, another was very rude, in addition, when I asked for 500g of prawns, I ended up with 800g and did not realise until I looked at the receipt.

Massively overrated. Very expensive for below average fish and chips. The snapper was dry, fried calamari and chips both soggy. So many better eating options in mooloolaba.

On top of that the prices are WAYY too high for takeaway fish and chips of that quality. (And then they added 15% on top of that for public holiday too!)

We've been here a few times over the years. My parents went there today for their 49th wedding anniversary. The staff were so rude to them. My mother was forced to line up for an endless period only to be yelled at and told to line somewhere else. In the meantime other people had been served before her. The staff are just terrible here. DON'T GO HERE

When in Mooloolaba, you must fill your belly with glorious seafood. Rather than spending a small fortune in a restaurant, we decided to pick up some local wild caught seafood from the Fish Market. Firstly, I must applauded the systematic flow of customers in the market that day. Despite the large number of customers wanting to buy seafood, the staff worked in an efficient manner, no one was ignored and everyone managed to get what they want without having other customers push in.

After looking at a boat at the marina we decided to head to the fish markets and get some lunch. Although I don't eat fish everything looked fresh and the market was busy. We grabbed some hocking, hot chips and some oysters. Chips were enjoyable, word around the table was that the fish fillets were good and the oyster I had were fresh and delicious with a squeeze of lemon. However when ordering the fish and chips, the woman serving us was very rude and was just there to take home her pay check however, the staff behind the fresh fish counter were friendly and accommodating.
Sally
Calamari was amazing as was the crumbed snapper. Chips are more like French fries, there are better chips around the corner.
Mad Mick
Seems to be the most popular seafood take away in Mooloolaba. The seafood is fresh and local although i wouldnt rate the chips too well. Expect long lines. Located at the very end of the spit, we typically go for the location. An excellent spot for kids with the safest beach around 200m away and huge playground out the front. You can buy fresh seafood and cook it on the bbqs, go upstairs or eat at the picnic area.
Make sure you take a walk along the rockwall for some great views.
I strongly recommend the Calamari pack which is always tender and flavorsome.

First time for fish and chips at the fish market. We ordered flake, barramundi, tuna and chips. First of all we didn't receive our tuna and the other fish were VERY oily. Chips were ordinary. Won't go back unless buying fresh seafood and taking it home to cook.
Screetch Monkey
I would have rated less than 1 is I could. Cold, stale, greasy chips made from low quality potato and cut closer to shoestring than regular chips. Flake was the worst I have ever tasted in 50 years. DO NOT EAT HERE!
Chelsea
Gross, soggy, stale chips. Such a disappointment. We didn't even eat it. There was so much grease on the fish that the batter wouldn't stick to it. The lemon was old and soggy and looked squeezed. Avoid at all costs!!
Denise
Yum scrum. Battered snapper bloody beautiful, great chips and potato cakes...busy but worth the visit
Queen Of Food
Not bad fish and chips but I have to say it is more expensive than it is in Melbourne which is weird.

Amazing fish and chips!! Love coming to this place when I visit the sunny coast. Delicious every time!

Yummo. Great Barra in Beer Batter and lovely Chips... Great, quick, friendly service too....
Karen
Noisy & basic menu. Very noisy. The kitchen had the radio on and we couldn't talk above the noise.
Basic food on offer, small portions. Fresh is about all I would say.
Would not bother going back to eat there.

Stopped in after reading some US reviews. Great friendly service and good fresh food. We ordered downstairs and ate our lunch upstairs. Barramundi burger, salad, boiled prawns, chips, scallops, and fried oysters. Our 5 year old enjoyed the fish nuggets.

Great fresh seafood you can take home or eat upstairs & look over the river

A lot of people have said that it is a really good place to have fish and chips. I have to disagree. The wait for food was upwards of 30 min. Then when the food finally arrived my crumbed deep sea cod was over cooked (I presume this would because the fillet I had was about 5mm thick). I also noticed that their cooks had a very negative attitude to dealing with customers. The closed door serving method with the use of pager devices portrays a sense that the customer is unable to communicate with the store, leaving them ''out in the rain'' if they think something it's wrong. I probably won't be back

We always come here when we stay at the coast. The prawns are always fresh and the oysters big and beautiful. My favourite place to get my uncooked seafood. We sometimes dine here too and are never disappointed. Love love love it!!

Friendly staff, fresh food. Buy the food downstairs. Bring the food upstairs to the deck. Enjoy! There's also a full service restaurant upstairs with a licensed bar if you wish to spoil yourself a little. Portions are huge. Sea food is awesomely fresh because the fishing trawler docks are just behind the restaurant.
