Review Sakana Sushi Bar - Mooloolaba

Came here for dinner and was not disappointed! The food was of amazing quality and fresh! We had had sushimi Platter which was as fresh as can be (plus a few other delicious dishes). The staff were kind, friendly and knowledgeable, and the addition of some live music was a nice touch but created more of a local pub feel rather than a Japanese restaurant vibe. All in all an amazing experience - would reccomend!

An impromtu lunch date with my husband ended up being a delightful and delicious meal. After deciding to park our car and check out the restaurants rather than sit in traffic for an hour( due to ongoing roadworks) we were welcomed by the lovely staff at Sakana Japanese Restaurant. We ordered some drinks which were delivered promptly following by the most fresh and mouth watering soft shell crab sushi we had tasted. All of food arrived in a timely, well presented manner and was simply mouth watering. Portions were definitely good value for money as well. The service was wonderful and the staff certainly know their stuff when it comes to Japanese cuisine especially the Manager and her Chef. These local businesses need our support and my family will definitely be back. I only wish I took the time to take some photo's

The most incredible restaurant on the entire Sunshine Coast. Yuki and Riley are wonderful and do an excellent job. We love coming here weekly. Thank you for the most beautiful food and excellent service. A sensational dining experience.

Being local I have visited many times. Staff are usually super polite and friendly……. but not yesterday. I can only assume that this waitress was new and untrained but that doesn’t excuse the lack of basic manners. I’ve had many similar situations where a dish wasn’t available and have been given an appropriate response like “I apologise but unfortunately that’s not available today” but never “I just told you” when asking about other options. I will likely go back but will wait until this waitress is either trained or fired.

The black mayo in the deep fried squid is so yum and unique, in which you can tastes more than 5 flavors! The tom yum spide roll is creative, but it is more similar with normal spicy and sour flavor since its sauce lacks flavor of lemongrass.

Went to Sakana for the first time tonight & wow! We had the edamame beans to start off with & after that we knew it was going to be a phenomenal meal! Proceeded with the gyoza’s, teriyaki salmon, tempura prawn sushi roll & a vegetable curry, it was all amazing! The staff were attentive & quick to bring us our drinks & remove dishes off our table! Will definitely be back many more times!

Super Duper roll was excellent perfect combination of salmon, prawn and eel, thank you Sakana Sushi Mooloolaba, I will be back definitely. Asked about Valentine’s Day no special offers.

Disappointed. The rolls had too much rice. Didn't really taste if anything. Bento box very average. Staff didn't really want our feedback. Miso soup was good. Won't go here again.
We decided to drive to Mooloolaba to get some prawns from the jetty for lunch. As we walked past the sushi restaurant the plates of sashimi and sushi looked beautifully presented and so fresh we changed our minds.
They were busy being a Sunday lunchtime, but the waitress was so accomodating and even organised for hubby to have a chair with a back as he suffering from a bad black. She even gaves us some suggestions which were very helpful in making our final decisions.
Bottle of chilled water and our entree of pork gyoza arrived promptly.
We ordered the sushi and sashimi platter for 2 and was blown away with the freshness and flavour.
Very reasonably priced for the quality and presentation.
Will definitely be back again.

Had a very pleasant evening there. Sushi and other Japanese dishes were extremely well prepared. The maitre d'(apparently son of the owner) was very chatty and friendly and helpful. They have a good range of sakes to accompany this food. Very enjoyable evening. Will return when we come back here for our next holiday.

The area has a lot of Japanese places, but this one must be the best value. We had three different sushi boards, two being $10 each. The little guy ate his body weight, baby Maddie liked the rice and we even had a whole set left over! Wow! Girl who served us was lovely.

A great little venue near the fish wharf we visited for lunch. Friendly staff and good food. We had the sashimi plate for $30 and the shared entree. Beach across the road for a pre lunch dip.

Lovely fresh seafood. Delicious chilli and garlic endamame. Came with no booking on a Saturday night and were seated quickly even though the restaurant was quite full. Great service. Can not fault.

Lovely atmosphere and flavourful meals. Walk in at 7 pm on a busy Saturday night and was seated immediately and with a smile. Service was polite and very timely. A little on the expensive side but over all a great experience.

Rude staff, terrible service. My partner and I made a lunchtime reservation for Sakana as we've been before and had a good experience previously. We arrived to find the restaurant half empty with plenty of tables. The table we were allocated was very noisy and hot (there's an outdoor dining area) we asked politely if we could move to another of the empty tables.
The waitress said she didn't know but would check with the manager. The manager arrived and very rudely told us we couldn't move, no explanation. During our visit the tables remained empty.
We ordered entrees and mains and one of the entrees arrived and not the other. We asked the waitress to check and the other entree arrived about 10 minutes after the first. The same thing happened for the main course, no apologies or explanation from the staff. All in all, a very unpleasant experience. The food was ok, nothing to rave about and would have been nice if we'd been able to eat our meals at the same time.

Awesome service and great food!!. Well the person who wrote the last review view obviously has no idea about service or Japanese food! this restaurant is ace and one of the best Japanese restaurants in Queensland by far!! It's situated in a fantastic location with beautiful sea breezes! would recommend this restaurant to all, 5 star!!

Absolutely terrible service. Will never consider going to Sakana again.

Sakana Sushi Bar is part of Fish on Parkyn and seems to serve up quite authentic and good quality Japanese food. We couldn't fault the flavours of the Teriyaki fish or the sushi and the gyoza is the best I've had to date. The vegetable curry was a little uninspired and contained far too much potato for my liking. The miso soup and salad that accompanied out meals (and many of the other main meals) were excellent and made these meals good value. Our only complaint was that both main meals came out tepid and were sent back to the kitchen. They then came out warmer but not hot. The staff were very apologetic and took $10 off our bill which was a lovely gesture. However, it is a concern if a kitchen can't serve up a piping hot curry and fish dish. It was a hot but windy day and we were really blown around at the outdoor tables. We didn't realise that there was additional seating inside and had we known we would have moved. Apart from that the service was good and friendly.

Best sushi on the coast without a doubt. Lovely staff and overall just a great little restaurant. Highly recommended!!

Chilli and garlic edamame is the best edamame we've ever eaten!

Best japanese cuisine on the coast. Busy little place. Corkage for BYO at $7pb is overpriced considering the wine menu is inadequate at best. However, the sushimi is very reasonably priced and very generous in serving size. The staff are happy to accomodate preference for type in the mixed platters. Best Gyoza and Edamame. Great value

Best place for sushi on the Sunshine Coast. I often drive up from Brisbane for a day trip and always stop in at Sakana for food. My favourite is the "Hot Philadelphia Roll", which has salmon and cream cheese and a light tempura batter. I also always order a serve of the shiitake mushrooms and bacon. Fantastic service, great prices and delicious food.
Omnivore
Fantastic!!! Great value, great service, great food. Nothing more to say

Awesome..... Definately the best sushi resturant on the coast - so fresh and delicious. I have been telling friends and family to go to this place :)

I got takeaway from Sakana a little while ago during the holiday period and was disappointed due to the high expectations I had from friends recommendations. Unsure I this was due to it being holiday time, but found the price to be excessive for what I got, which was a large roll with a lot of rice and a small amount of actual ingredient (prawn, chicken etc). A self confessed pig when it comes to sushi, but found I couldn't eat everything I bought due to filling up on the excessive amount of rice. I hope this experience was the exception to the rule. (I appreciate they would have high overheads due to their location)

This is hands down the best sushi restaurant on the coast! The fish is fresh from the ocean and the sushi tastes amazing. Unfortunately, it is not cheap.

Wanted to, but didn't like it.. Went to Mooloolaba with my partner for a short trip and this was one of the places I scouted out due to it's promising rating (albeit based on a small number of votes)

Nice design and staff was nice, but unfortunately we were positioned at a table furtherest away from everything. I don't remember the dishes exactly as I've put off this review for a few months, but we ordered a few sushi dishes, sashimi and some chicken udon. The size of the sushi here were bigger than normal, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but almost awkward to eat. The udon was not cheap and cost just under $20. We thought that due to the price, that it was going to be different, but we were very disappointed. Tasted the same if not worse than other udon that I've had before. Quite bland. Overall prices were very expensive for what you got.

Due to it's location we thought this place would be good, but we left very disappointed. I don't usually dislike restaurants, but based on our experience it's hard for us not to.

You have to try Sakana. I eat at Sakana at least 3 times a week and every time Ben the owner keeps making things even better. The menu has a great range and everything on it is healthy. We take a bottle of wine at night and have a great sushi dinner for about $30 for 2. He has installed Japanese barbecues which I am looking forward to trying. Ben is only to happy to make something different from the menu if you want to try something new. You have to try this one.
