Review Spero - Mooloolaba

OK.... for the price. Good spot overlooking the boats at mooloolaba wharf. Great presentation. Octopus was a bit tough. Lamb was deep-fried too.... Nice ambience. Floor staff were attentive. Drinks were good too.

Hard to fault Spero. Food is fresh and well cooked or designed. The staff is attentive and friendly. Position on the river is a feast for the eyes. They do not have table service, but then again dinner for 2 with wine at $95 was a pleasant surprise. I have no hesitation recommending this place and would go back again, try it.

The family came here for lunch as it was a nice location overlooking the marina and there seemed a decent variety of food. The place wasn't that busy for a Wednesday lunch and we were seated quickly outside. All 4 of us ordered the giros and covered the variety offered, namely lamb, chicken and vegetarian. We also ordered a side of haloumi chips. Although the prices were reasonable the serves were pretty small... In fact a lot of the space was taken up with chips within the small pita bread. The dishes were tasty but the bread wasn't fresh... It seemed not far off stale Perhaps when they are busier you have a better chance of fresh pita bread.

Had a delicious dinner seated by the windows overlooking the wharf. The octopus had a healthy char, had crispy edges yet was so tender in the middle - delicious! The lamb backstrap was topped with olive tapenade and smoked labneh which paired beautifully together. The celeriac gratin instead of potato was a nice change. The Moreton Bay Bug pasta was one of my favourite pasta I've ever had. Al dente, squiggly pasta, tender bug and quite a generous amount of it, and that dollop of lemon mascarpone with its light creaminess and hint of citrus just tied it all together. The crispy breadcrumbs too were a nice touch. Finally, the loukoumades were a delightful, comforting dessert. The doughnuts were freshly fried with a light crisp and warm - the custard was warm too! The doughnuts themselves weren't sweet, just very moist and fluffy with dots of ricotta inside, so the custard and candied orange peel were the perfect accompaniment. Very satisfying conclusion to the meal.

We were basically kicked out after our meal. Some Karen came in complaining about her table. To quote Karen. “Promises were made”. I guess she had been promised a window seat and none were available?? After our oily sickening food my husband went outside for a cigarette and I went to the bathroom. We left our drinks and food at the table with the intention on coming back and finishing our drinks and relaxing a little bit. I took my handbag with me as I didn’t want it stolen (it is quite expensive) on my way back to my seat to finish my drink, the table had been cleared and there was the Karen sitting at my table. I wasn’t gone 5 minutes and she’d already jumped on it. She seen that I had only gone to the bathroom. The desperation on this women was nauseating. I told the waitress that we hadn’t finished and she asked me if I wanted to speak to the manager. I didn’t see the point nor did I want to get into it with the desperado Karen. I was then offered a free drink, obviously to go as our table had been taken. I didn’t bother with the drink. It’s definitely not a place I’d return to. The staff are clearly not trained. Our main came out with our entrées. It wasn’t clean. The food was horrible and overpriced. The flavour palette was all off. Everything was sweet but drenched in oil. Even the salad offered no relief. So many other restaurants to choose from in this area, I suggest going elsewhere.

Spero is amazing, my Girlfriend and I both enjoyed our meals so much that it kept coming up in conversation throughout the night. We're really looking forward to eating there again, one comment I made to my girlfriend was that even though it was date night for us, I kind of wished friends were there with us so they could experience just how awesome the food actually was. The staff were very welcoming and well mannered without out it sounding like they had to be nice because it was there job, which goes a long way, and as a guest that travelled an hour to get there, it's very appreciated.

Horrible quality. Small and soggy meal. For $70 we got served slop to only have restaurant “We agree that the quality of food you were provided is not up to our usual standards.”

This is the third time we have been here and each time it has been great. According to our grandson foodie it was the second best food ever. We always enjoy the grilled chicken with tasty fries, the octopus (always tender) and this time we tried the meatballs as well. Great view over the water and the dogs are welcome at the front tables.
