True traditional English chipper. Just what we needed! Great price and generous portion sizes along with very friendly service. We had the traditional chips with battered sausage, onion rings, and curry sauce. Thanks guys we will be back for more!

Beautiful fish, chips and all things British! It cures my homesickness every time. Love the wee extras such as Zoflora and condiments. Great tasting food with generous portion sizes and excellent value for money. Thank you! Until my next trip!!

Best fish and chips we have ever had. Fresh fish that tastes like fish.not greasy, and holds its own.crispy batter that doesn't fall off British fish n chips are the best.chips crispy and the vinegar sticks to them, chunky hand cut and the potato croquettes are so good. Place is clean tidy and U better get there early as it gets packed

Visited this traditional cafe yesterday for lunch and so excited to find a good typical English fish and chip shop. My husband had Atlantic cod and chips which he said was the best he had ever had and I had the Vege pack which was extremely tasty, loved the cheese and onion croquettes and the potato scallops were so tasty, the batter was perfect, the mushy peas were good. I also bought some English goodies that are difficult to find, including Birds Custard, English pork pies and Vimto cordial. We definitely recommend that this is a great place to visit and will certainly be returning.

Isle of Wight born myself and therefore we come here atleast once a month to enjoy proper English Fish & Chips and have been coming throughout the multiple ownerships over the years. Mike has definitely transformed this place into the best version it can be and the food is ALWAYS fantastic and never varies in quality and quantity like some places. Thanks 😁

Love the soggy English chips dipped in curry! Wish there was more vinegar but then others would complain it's too much so it's a good middle ground. Convenient location and lots of great places to eat it near the lake

This place is amazing. Loved every bite. Hey make chips the way chips should be made and bend over backwards to accommodate all my British quirks! Thank you Fryer of Whitby!!

I deleted my previous review as the new owner has turned this place right around!! We got the family pack on Wednesday night and it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The chips were amazing! Proper hand cut and homemade!! The quality was fantastic. There was so much food we could’ve fed 5 or 6 people. Well done to the new management!!!

I just discovered this Fish & Chip shop .... very impressed with both the serving size and quality of chips (the small serve $3.50 is more than $5.00 other shops) and the sweet potato scallops are well drained and batter is nice and fluffy. Keep up the good service and portion sizes and you will have repeat business from me and everyone I tell about your shop.

So disappointed this place isn’t as good as it was when it first opened! No black/white pudding and the battered sausage is the strangest thing I’ve ever tasted, not an English sausage that’s for sure. Chips are good but they missed salt and vinegar on everything. Curry sauce and mushy peas were pretty good also. You should wrap fish separate from the chips other wise it’s steams and goes very soft. Not sure if it was just because it took us ten minutes to get home with everything but the batter on everything was quite soft and not crispy. It has only just re opened so will definitely give it another go in a few weeks.

What can I say, where has the good fish and chip shop gone,,, my son decided to go to the English Fish and Chip shop for his birthday.... we have all been many time before, but will never go again,,,, what disgusting food it was... the chips were tasteless, horrible, the batter on the fish was soggy, had to have cod.. yuk,. not selling haddock anymore.!!! What!!!!, the mushy peas well lets not go there, they were disgusting, in fact I think we threw more away than ate, this wasn't a cheap meal costing nearly $100 for 6 of us,, shame never visit again, also you need to update your website, so out of date...

WOW! Went there today with my wife, who is Scottish, as we had been gasping for a black pudding supper. We had travelled down from Bundaberg & were not disappointed in the least. My wife hadn't had a Black Pudding supper since emigrating and was in heaven. We couldn't fault the service nor food, PLUS they have Irn Bru & brown vinegar, a must for fish n chips. We cannot wait to drive back to have this again, as it was the best Black Pudding I've ever eaten!

Went to get fish and chips today Friday 16th February 2018, website says11.00am opening went at Midday shop closed no signs outside no opening hours listed, young Indian guy cam out from behind counter waving arms frantically presumably trying to tell us he was closed.I do suspect the fish is coming from Aldi and they are buying it as they go along as trade has fallen so dramatically (not surprising). Will not go again until shop changes hands as it must do , must be losing money hand over fist.

My wife and I went to the friar of Whitby for lunch today all I can say ii is Its back back to the original best it was when it first opened. Under new ownership they were the best fish and chips I have had since I was in Whitby itself 17 years ago.My parents owned a chippy in Portsmouth before we came to oz so trust me these guys are on top of their game. Real homemade chips , the best North Atlantic cod cooked perfectly and for all you pommies they even keep the batter scraps. Forget the stories you have heard about the food being undercooked and greasy these were the best, Talking to the boss he told me the only thing he wanted was his batter a little crispier hopefully I helped him fix that problem today. TRY THEM YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED and believe me I know a bit about cooking fish and chips

Ordered Cod and Chips. The batter was soggy, fish pretty ordinary. Chips portion was small for what was charged. Won’t be going back there again.

We have been to this fish & chip shop many times in the past, we have been tonight for the first time in a while & it will be the last time we ever go. The food was disgusting, the fat chips were uncooked & bland, the roe & kids chicken nuggets were over cooked. At 6pm they only had one pie left & I wish we hadn't have ordered it, it definitely wasn't a Pukka pie like they used to have. If we hadn't have travelled 20 mins home to eat the food I would have taken it straight back. Extremely disappointed, I don't see how this business will survive if it is supposed to represent 'A British Chip Shop' because they are not selling what they are advertising.

Just had fish and chips and curry sauce tonight and it was delicious! Chips were perfect, sauce was perfect. Everything was perfect! We will be back again for sure. But, don't be afraid to smother the chips with vinegar! Haha

Yum yum yum... Didn't disappoint. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.. Cod roe was perfect and it's been my fav since I was a child.. 💯 % happy.

I have waited a year for this!!!! Went for the first time yesterday and the chips were......not crispy/crunchy huraaaahhhh! they were soft like they should be and mushy peas and curry sauce (I was in heaven) If I had to make one comment - the large chips were not as large as normal - but I didnt care, quality not quantity. My new favourite chippy.
