Review The Texas Pantry - Moonah

Eng-Hoe Loh
Excellent pork ribs and smoked honey BBQ pork belly. Two plates shared by three people ( we are small eaters) so servings are of decent size. Very friendly and helpful staff. Place is small but comfortable. Will definitely go back as it is one of the best restaurants in Moonah.

The meals are absolutely awesome. Walked in the first night and was blown away. Decided to go back a second night and it did not disappoint at all. Will be back many more times. O and the best lemon, lime and bitters I have ever had.

Very heavy fulfilling waffle fries. Cozy atmosphere. One of the few if only American eateries in Hobart!

Well, the portions, quality are good only missing is great taste. I mean it was OK but i expected more from the way it was presented, may be the food was remoulded for Australian pallets. Loved the ambience and service but i expect more flavor and taste.

Great food, and the floor staff are absolutely fantastic, they could serve you baked beans and you would love them! Top notch!

Superb service, loaded waffle fries to die for! However the half rack of ribs were unfortunately destroyed. Extremely dry with very little sauce/flavour throughout, rather disappointed and unable to eat much as they were just too dry

I had the half rack of baby back ribs... so good!! Customer service is really important to them, they were very attentive, happy, engaging and all with a smile.

I ordered some ribs online through their website, asking for pickup today at 12.30pm. It's a Saturday and there is no indication anywhere that they are closed. I placed the order and my card was charged, and when I went down to their store it was closed. I called their number and no one picked up, so I left a message. Considering that the business says it's open online and it's supposed to be open today at this time, and that they have taken my money, it's not cool. Hoping that they open later today or they give me a call back. Edit (24/05/2022): Thank you for responding to me on FB and on this review. The online ordering system has contacted me to say they are processing the refund now. I appreciate the communication greatly. This review was penned before your response to me, and I have now amended the review.

I'm so glad we came to the Texas Pantry for dinner. There was an amazing selection of BBQ meata from ribs, steak, brisket and everything in between. I ordered the meat platter which was massive and came with generous servings of wonderfully prepared meats and a selection of delicious sides. The meal was absolute perfection, and service was speedy and friendly. I couldn't fault the experience.

Great food, full house. Great sevice even though the two serving staff obviously had their hands full. Happily fed carnivorous son - two platters between three with a side of guacamole and green salad was plenty.

We came here as it was recommended by our tour guide. The food is pretty amazing. Walking past the kitchen you can smell all the wonderful aromas. The food is clearly thoughtfully prepared, well marinated / seasoned. There’s a good range on the menu and the prices are really reasonable. The co owner and chef is from Texas, you’d be hard pressed to find a better tex-mex joint anywhere in Oz.

Just, wow. Melt in your mouth meat. Did not know a beef burrito could be that good. Plus beans and rice I struggled to finish it. Friend had the half rack of ribs a day only regrets not getting the full rack. Will definitely be back here. Amazing value.

If you haven't been to Texas, then by all means comment on the quality of the food in front of you, but please spare us your opinion on how authentic the food is here. Tex Mex is a cuisine all its own, combining Spanish<br/>flavours, Mexican ingredients and a long tradition of slow roasted, smoked and<br/>marinated meats. It doesn't get any better than this small, busy and completely wonderful Tex Mex restaurant in the suburban boondocks of Hobart. Get your BBQ jollies off the superb pork ribs, great sauces and marinades and cornbread to die for. Outstanding flavour, generous portions and service as friendly as a State Fair in Omaha. Add real Margaritas made with quality tequila and fresh lime juice for a brilliant night out. Who would have thought you'd find this in a tiny restaurant in Moonah, but there it is and the town is making its way there. Best tip? Go at lunchtime, when you don't have to book a table days in advance and still get the great tastes at very reasonable prices. Five stars, get in quick before it gets too cool. We hear a Sandy Bay extension is coming soon. <br/>

Texas Pantry never disappoints, for either lunch or dinner. After several visits I always promise to try something different on the menu when I next visit however I can never seem to pass up on a Reuben sandwich despite my promise. My husband always struggles to pass on the ribs each visit as well! This is not to say the other dishes are not as good (we have sampled the philly cheese steak sandwich, the meat platter, pulled pork and pulled beef burgers and a few other specials) but once you find a favourite its hard to move on. Lunch and dinner are serviced by great staff who know the menu and work fast due to the high demand. A plus to eating in for dinner is partaking in their cocktail range which are authentically American with a nice dose of flavour and a heavy kick of alcohol.

Fantastic service and fantastic food. This is as American as it can get right here in Tasmania. The baby back ribs literally melts off the bone and please try the waffle fries, they're addictive!

Wonderful night at the Texas Pantry, don't have a bad word to say about it. Great food, great service, and cheap margaritas! Both my partner and I left feeling very full.

Being a Melbournian visiting Tassie after many years, I never thought I would find this gem. The staff to begin with were very welcoming and gave us a rundown of the different items available on the menu. <br/><br/>In all honesty if you find a Texan inspired menu anywhere, you go for broke. I ordered the 600g pork rib with potato lattice, green salad, slaw and corn bread. Little did I know the treat I was in for.<br/><br/>The servings here are big and quality is on the equal. The mouth watering marinades and seasoned flavours send your tastebuds into a frenzy of new experiences. The ribs just melt in your mouth and are cooked perfectly with the sweet and sourness of BBQ sauce. Potato Lattice? well seasoned, not greasy and still light and fluffy in the middle. Most of all though if it feels too much for your taste buds...try some corn bread for a grainy, yet sweet experience. This balances out a perfect plate with lots of flavours.<br/><br/>The drinks menu also is quite extravagant so maybe set your mood for what you want before you come into this restaurant.<br/><br/>A great vibe, friendly service, big servings, perfect for a birthday, event or when you feel like you can eat out a market place. Do try it.

If it's a Friday or Saturday night you're interested in then make sure you book ahead. These guys are REALLY busy and short-ish on space! We tried for 7pm but had to settle for 8.<br/><br/>The welcome and service throughout the evening was exactly what you want from a venue like this; cheerful, friendly, conversational...it fit the vibe well.<br/><br/>If it's comfort food from the US of A that you're looking for then you've come to the right place! The menu has so many different Tex-Mex and other options, it took us about 10 minutes top take it all in and make a decision!<br/><br/>To make the most of the diversity, we decided to go for their Traditional Texas BBQ Platter which came with smoked BBQ pulled pork, a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs (we ordered an extra half!), and a smoked BBQ sausage together with corn bread, slaw, potato salad and a BBQ dipping sauce. On the side we also ordered a serve of their waffle fries with their Texas Inferno sauce.<br/><br/>If we ate with our eyes we would have been ecstatic. Unfortunately none of the dishes really lived up to expectations. I should clarify that they weren't bad in any way, they just left us looking at each other saying, "Was that it...?"<br/><br/>The ribs were tender and falling off the bone, but the moisture and deep flavours were missing. The pulled pork was better, but for me was just a bit 'thin' and slightly watery. If anything, the smoked sausage was possibly the best of the three meats.<br/><br/>Out of all the dishes we ordered though, it was the waffle fries that stood head and shoulders above the rest...and that's not what you want from a BBQ joint!!<br/><br/>The cocktails we ordered were fantastic, and the 'Tacos' beer they stock is one of the best I've tried anywhere, and would almost be enough to lure me back on that alone!!<br/><br/>Overall it was a solid meal, but nothing to rave about. I'd go back, but only as a larger group. No photos, as it was romantically lit (ie. dim) 😊

Went with a friend for lunch, we each ordered a dish plus a basket of waffle fries to share. We received the meals first, I had beef tacos, they were full of flavour but ever so slightly on the dry side. We had to ask after the waffle fries but when we got them, they were great. Small but with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Good atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff. There were very generous servings and all the food was really tasty👌 I will definitely go again at some point!

A great Reuben sandwich -- probably the only place you can get one in the Hobart area.  Friendly staff.  Well done translation of Texas and the US to Australia.  Good sweets, too.

Delightfully surprised. Popped in without a booking for dinner but we were quickly accommodated too. With no expectations we was unsure of what to expect but blown away by the authenticity and blend of the flavors. My friend and I both have food allergies and were happy to hear of the organic ingredients and the gluten and dairy free options. I would recommend this restaurant and defiantly enjoyed my time here as well as a few margaritas. Wonderful way to start off an evening in Tassy! Excellent food, drinks, and service!

Quick dinner. Nice and very tasty dinner at Texas pantry. We shared a tex bbq plate and a nachos both really good. Highlights of the bbq plate was the champagne/chilli sauce and the black beans the three meats where cooked well.

Don’t Mess With Texas  Black gold, ten gallon hats, chilli and BBQ. These are a few of the things that the great state of Texas is famous for. Now slow cooked meat, chilli sauces and margaritas, along with some of that southern hospitality, have found their way to downtown Moonah, at The Texas Pantry. Housed in the space that was previously Split Restaurant, the Two Girls are already big fans.
