Review:
A monster of a meal which had us forking out ~$35pp. The quantity of food was small for the price. Look at the portable quantity of tom yum soup for that steep $14 price tag tho...
The pad Thai was definitely attention grabbing and worth the price. As I am someone that typically doesn't go for Thai, I enjoyed my time here!
My top picks would be the Tom Yum Soup (even though it's expensive - it tasted amazing), the pad Thai and the massman lamb curry.
A cool quirky establishment allowed a lot of natural light. Everything was pretty good but it's up to you if you want to brave mt alexzander road 😆.
We stumbled upon this local Thai restaurant after finding out another one we were planning to go to was closed, and we were pretty impressed! The venue is cosy, dark and warm, and it’s quite romantic and intimate. We really enjoyed the Thai fish cakes and the sweet chilli sauce that came with it. The Green Curry was delicious too although a slightly small portion size. The Pad Thai was quite sweet but overall really delicious and flavourful. I think the food is a bit pricy here but otherwise a good feed! The staff are very friendly too.
The ambience and staff at the restaurant were very nice. I ordered a chicken cashew stir fry which came with rice, I also tried the chicken green curry.
Both of the dishes were very good! I would definitely recommend and return to this place
Absolutely fantastic, 10/10 for food, service and value, couldnt rate it any higher. Authentic thai food just as they make it in Thailand. Must book.
Amazing place! We have been back numerous times and always the same great quality and service! The green chicken curry and crispy pork are personal favourites!
Khao San Road is a local favourite evident by its difficulty getting a walk in table most days. The restaurant is always busy and lively. The Tom yum soup is so delicious here! It’s full of herbs and spice and very rich for a broth. Among other entrees, my most recommended are the chive dumplings, hoy jor, fried wontons and sago dumplings. Besides the fried wontons, the above entrees mentioned are quite unique compared to other Thai menus so I’d definitely give them a try if you get the chance. The curries here are also deliciously thick and creamy! My favourite is the red duck curry with tender duck pieces and a delicious sweet curry. This time we also ordered the soft shell crab which was so crispy and the batter was light but thick enough to have a nice crunch. Also ordered the crispy pork with basil and this dish is so fragrant, if you love basil it’s a must try. Super full we didn’t have room for dessert but there will be a next time! Staff are super sweet and service is fantastic.
Enjoyed authentic Thai food at Khao San Road on busy weekend. Had prawn cake, green curry, rice noodles and coconut dessert.
Thai green curry was my favourite, the curry was thicker than other Thai restaurant and it's addicted taste 🙌
Friendly staff but can be cold if you sit near the entrance door.
Quite a nice Thai restaurant, with good decor ect. Service was pretty good, however wait time on meals was on the higher side. Although the food was tasty, unfortunately it fell short of the hype. Would definitely return, however nothing spectacular.
Gorgeous busy Thai restaurant. We made a booking in advance which I highly recommended as it is very busy! Ambience is nice with gorgeous Thai inspired interior.
We ordered a few dishes to share (which was plenty) - pad thai, stir fry pork belly and massamman curry. They were all so flavoursome and the most authentic thai ive had in melbourne. Absolutely sensational! Thank you for an amazing meal
😱Lizzie’s first impression: my favourite local Thai joint. The most impressive portions and the tastiest food.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I loved the pad Thai here - it tastes authentic and did I mention the portions are massive? I also enjoyed the satay chicken dish that was offered on a sizzling plate. The Khao san road fried rice is a must order - it is simply delicious and made me come back for more. Roti is really good here and he peanut sauce is done really well to complement the bread.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it gets really busy on weekends so make sure you book or else you’d be finding yourself waiting for a while. The papaya salad in my opinion should have more roasted nuts so it can give the salad more texture. The lamb curry was really good however, the lamb could be more fresh.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: i love this Thai restaurant so much. It offers a lot of dishes and they’re al very reasonably priced - I will be bacon
Love this place. I think it’s the best Thai place in the area. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is delicious! We had a few starters to share, the fish cakes were a stand out. We had the Red duck curry which was amazing, it had lots of pieces of duck and a really nice flavour. The beef Massaman curry was really creamy and tasty. We really enjoyed the Pad Thai, it had lots of prawns and tofu in it and was a very generous portion. I would highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back.
Amazing place to have Thai food. I love their beef salad, very juicy and tender. It was one of best Thai beef salad I ever had. Next, the chicken green curry, it was great as well, it's served a cute tiny bowl which is heated with a small fire. it's very neat. It is kinda hard to get the sauce though. Lastly the fishcake, it's good. Oily, mildly spicy and tasted good. The mocktail was a bit of disappointment though, it's kinda bland and the cherry ...somehow tasted different. Overall it's definitely a very good experience.
Food is always fantastic. Ambiance is lovely. Staff are prompt.
This is by far my favourite Thai restaurant. A little pricey, hence the 4/5.
Really nice ambience. Food was delicious- tried curries and noodles. Would have liked more tofu and vegetables in the noodle dish but the flavours were nice. Very friendly staff
Absolutely wonderful without the abundant price tag. Seating is limited, so be sure to book first. The food was beautifully cooked and done to perfection in flavour and authenticity. So impressed!
I have been lucky enough to be going here since Khao San Road was only 1 week old. The fact that you have to book a table ahead of every visit says it all about this beautiful Thai restaurant.
Vegetarian spring rolls, Chicken satay skewers and Roti bread for entrees is how I start my night which all are always cooked to perfection.
Mains I have shared a lot of the menu in my time but the standout is the Massaman curry which is the best Massaman curry I have every had. It comes out in a clay pot with a candle under it keeping it warm while you eat it. The flavours and spices make the meat melt in your mouth!
If you are lucky enough to have this as your local thai place I would highly suggest to make this the family go to for events.
Seeking the best Thai in Melbourne, we have finally found time to visit Khao San Road in Moonee Ponds, one of the most highest rated Thai restaurants in Melbourne. With a prompt booking, we entered the restaurant with utmost prestige service that was both friendly and professional in every accommodation.
Tonight we ordered the Soft Shell Crab, Curry Puffs and Satay Chicken, to which they were enjoyable in that order. The soft shell crab was the most delicate we have had, oozing with flavour and softer than ever without skimping out on meat pieces within. The tenderness and saucy taste made this a MUST get for any visitors with a few nearby seated patrons enjoying it too. The curry puffs were also fresh, very warm and flavourful in the filling which was good considering most we have had are dry in the inside. Definitely a good entree. What was perhaps good but not great was the Satay chicken. Lots of Satay at the bottom of the dish making for a slightly uneven taste, whilst the chicken was dry at some parts. Still good, just perhaps overshadowed by the Soft shell crab. We also ordered coconut rice with the dishes and found it again food, just not as coconut flavoured as other places.
Definitely a good Thai restaurant to try and we can see the appeal for sure. Enjoyed our meal and especially enjoyed the warm service both entering and exiting the restaurant!
Food: 4/5
Service: 4.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value: 3.5/5
Overall: 4/5
I have been to so many thai places there is absolutely one of my fave. Decent size flour is big, lots of fresh herbs, chilli and Fresh ingredients. Atmosphere is great but you typical poor asian setup. The ambient is great at night, it can get extremely busy and sometimes very loud diners. The curry is always a must. The salad is full of flavour. This is the best if you are looking in north melbourne, Kensington, monee ponds, yarraville. Love it.
Came here on a Sunday night was busy already at 6:00pm which is a good sign, service was quick and prompt and although the dishes are a few extra dollars than the average Thai joint it is worth it! Best lamb randang ever!!!
I was here for Valentine’s Day bcos Thai is my favourite cuisine. I like the simple, appealing decor and the friendly service at the restaurant. We ordered red curry duck with rice & hokkein chicken noodles. The flavour and aroma was enjoyable. We absolutely loved it. I will always recommends friends & family because my experience was enjoyable.
They do the best ever tofu salad. Nothing like this anywhere. The curry puffs are average. The beverages selection is quiet delectable.
The service is extremely fast.
Loved it. Food is delish! We had the chicken green curry and pad Thai prawns and both were amazing with a generous serving size. Service was also very friendly and attentive. Looking forward to our next visit Khao San Road.
The food was delicious and enjoyed by all at a birthday get together Our table of six however was at the back of the restaurant where it was a bit dark. Nevertheless, we will definitely come back for the food and would recommend this Thai joint to other people.
We had a fantastic night out and ordered tons off their menu. Everything was well cooked - definitely going to go back for more. Their amazing wine collection is just the icing on the cake.
Came to this busy Thai restaurant for the first time this weekend. Food flavoursome with heaps of choices, tad on the oily side but good price, quick service and nice atmosphere
Will return
Easily some of the best Thai going around in Melbourne, also love the fact that the curries come out on top of a candle to stop them from going cold. Great value for money and great decor
The only negative I could find was parking nearby, which is not their fault but keep in mind when visiting. Service was very attentive and polite. Had a banquet which was reasonably priced. Ordering individual portions could get rather expensive compared to other Thai restaurants I have visited. Food is outstanding. Entrees all delicious and the massaman curry the best I have ever tried. Highly recommended for a delicious Thai meal.
Great food, great atmosphere (except the loud guy next to us but i wont hold that against them) and very cheap in comparison. Only thing that was wrong was that they duck curry we ordered as mild was still a bit too warm for us which a ashame because its tasted awesome. We didnt get a desert but they looked pretty good for an asian resturant.
I really like the food here, more traditional than an Aussie-inspired Thai resto. The flavours were quite apparent and they certainly didn't hold back on the spice level.
The papaya salad was a real throwback to what I had in Bangkok. My mouth was burning from the spice but I could not help myself in dousing my tongue with the more of the dressing. Also, it's as fresh as it comes.
The mains we had were the soft-shell crab in black pepper sauce and the seafood with curry. Just loved the spice & flavours here. If it wasn't served absolutely piping hot, I would've stuffed myself silly.
Anyway, I'm keen to come back. They have a few other seafood offerings that I wanna try. It is a bit pricy but I guess it adds up quantity and quality-wise.
On a last note, the wait staff got one of my order wrong. I felt so bad to tell them because I felt like if I had a sizzling squid instead that I would enjoy that too. Either way, I'll be back.

Amazing Thai food. Been here 3 times in the last few months and it's always really good. Great spring rolls and roti bread, some of the best Thai curries I've ever had too. Definitely a huge fan of their Red Duck Curry.
Kao San Road always a warm vibe about it. Have been a regular here for a while. Chicken Pad Thai was on point as per usual today as it always is. Always enjoy having the Satay Chicken which had the great burst of flavour tonight. When I am here I feel like I am in Thailand. Love the buzz and just the overall aesthetics here. Only problem tonight was it felt short staffed where it was hard to order drinks. That though didn’t dampen my spirit. Definitely recommend this place and will be back.

Best Thai in the area !
Great vibe inside make sure you book ahead.
Green curry is very good and the chicken used is of premium quality, the yellow sweet lamb curry is my new favourite good job guys
Four of us dined here on Friday evening.
Parking is a little bit difficult in this area and the restaurant was fairly dim towards the back where we were sitting.
However the food was fantastic!!! We had the banquet for $37 each plus drinks and the total was $211 for the four of us.
Entree included fish cakes and spring rolls. The main had duck, chicken, beef and then either mango or coconut ice cream for dessert.
The flavours were exquisite and I can't wait to visit again!
Very nice authentic Thai restaurant. Every single one of the dishes we had were very good without being too spicy. Staff were nice and attentive
Absolutely delicious food here. The massaman curry with lamb and the stir fried basil with crispy pork were excellent. Highly recommended !!
Tasty, great, modern Thai food in the bustling mount Alexander road. I think I've tried all the noodle dishes and they're delish but the standouts are the curries for sure. The Penang lamb is so so good!!! Worth checking out if you're local!
We dined here last night for my birthday (group of 12) and had a man looking after us who I believe he said he's worked there 7 years. He was amazing, very friendly! We shared entrees to start - grilled pork, chicken satay, chicken spring rolls and they were all tasty. The satay skewers tasted alittle sweet but they were still nice. Everyone ordered their own mains and they all said they were delicious. Corkage was $9 per bottle which I thought was reasonable so we could take our own wines. We also took our own cake in. The food and service was great, we will definitely be back! Thanks for looking after us & the tuk tuk
Absolutely fantastic food! You MUST TRY the vegetable tempura entree! So yummy and the mayo with it was excellent. I had the Thai green curry which was also lovely. The only fault of the night was the lady forgetting my drink Order, but hey, it didn't ruin my experience. Highly recommended.
By far the best Thai in the area & surrounds. Outstanding quality & presentation of food dine in or takeaway. Their Penang curry is to die for , rich creamy flavours just melt in the mouth. Their Tom Yum soup is beautifully presented in a little clay pot on a heated element which keeps the perfectly balanced sour spicy broth gently brewing until you are ready to drink. Their takeaway is always perfectly presented & not overflowing with food & jam packed in like a lot of other eateries. Quantity vs Quality which makes this my number 1 Thai in the area.
I came here for the first time the other week and I was very pleased. The meal portions were very big, but they were definitely not compensating for a lack of quality or flavor, as the ingredients looked and tasted very fresh and the flavors were incredible. The service was also very good. I'm not sure how long it took for our food to come out, but I remember being surprised at how quickly it arrived. The ambience was also great. Our waiter was very friendly and everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves. I look forward to coming back.
The duck red curry was a treat! The menu was very precise so the food was definitely served up to standard. Also loved the spring rolls.
Service still needs improvement but the food was amazing.
Service was so friendly and warm! The staff were so helpful organising my sister's surprise birthday cake. My curry was delicious and I'm not really into curry.
DINNER
Food was great, but was seated way to close to people we didn't know and couldn't have a private discussion. Service was good and fast. I'd go back there cause I had a really delicious meal :)
The best Thai in the greater west! We have been coming to KSR for about 6 years now and it has never disappointed. The clay pot curries are a specialty. This is a must for all Melbournians!
Excellent service and wonderful dishes we had !!! They have the best tomyum soup i ever had ~ surprise to their vege pad thai~ definitely come back again ;)
Khao San Road in Moonee Ponds is always my go to place when I want Thai food 😚.
Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere is spot on. Can't go wrong with the Massaman Curry and the Chicken Cashew Nut, with a side of Roti bread and Satay Chicken Skewers. 😍
This is my favourite place for Thai in Melbourne! 🙋
I have been several times to Khao San Road and I do love the curries and the little starter which I never can remember what it is! But it's delicious!
I celebrated my Birthday there and they are so accommodating to bring a cake from outside and play the birthday song! Fantastic service and staff!
Best Thai on this side of town! Delicious satay sauce and pad Thai. Have been coming here for years and the food and service has been consistently great
Khao San Road is one of my fave local Thai restaurants. Apart from the delicious food, their decor is super cool, with the walls covered in clay pots. Continuing the clay pot theme, any curry or soup you order is served in a clay pot that sits atop a small flame that keeps your meal nice and warm while you eat. The food is delicious, the massaman curry a personal favourite of mine. If you want a trusty Thai dish, do yourself a favour and give this place a try!
Came here with some colleagues for a casual dinner - we were not disappointed! Food was astounding, amazing flavour and huge variety of dishes. The owner was absolutely lovely, spoke to the chef who said she aimed to tweak traditional Thai flavours to please Aussie palettes. She definitely succeeded!
A very busy restaurant, better call to make a table reserve before u go. Everything was pretty good, the Cocktail and dessert was delicious. Second time to come and never be disappointed, highly recommended.
Top notch Thai food with impeccable service. No doubt with the food and presentation. It definitely lived up to the hype and good rating. I have had the best Tom Kha and Pad kee mow in this restaurant.
Absolutely delicious food here! I've been several times and have never been disappointed. The dishes are always full of flavour, good portions with fresh ingredients and it's clean and tidy. The prices are a little higher than usual for a thai restaurant, but you get what you pay for (and no msg used yay!). Highly recommend for a romantic dinner or a group dinner with family and friends.

Another restaurant that lives up to the reviews and rating. Great place for dinner with friends or a special date night. Staff are friendly and food was amazing. Recommend to all!
Cannot fault. If this was masterchef I'd give it a 9.5... only because we are not a fan of the tea pot water. That and we cannot leave a review without hitting the word quota... the best restaurant on the strip!!!!!
Superb Thai food with just the right amount of spice. The atmosphere of the place is very welcoming and traditional. A little too dimly lit (as seen in all the photos).
Our food was served quite quickly and they even played the 'Happy Birthday' song on the speakers while bringing out the cake to our table.
A local Gem!
Our usual Sunday night dinner place never disappoints! This place is a must! Beautiful food beautiful decor beautiful service, can not fault anything!!!
I like it here. All the dishes were yummy.
There was four of us. One of the friends had been there; so she did the ordering.
I'm not Thai, so can't really say things such as "authentic Thai food". But I really enjoyed the dishes.
So much beautiful flavours. Well presented. Good portions to enjoy the dish. Even when we were full, we waited until tummy can take it to try their dessert.
The table sizes is also quite decent.
When you see your table filled w the vibrant colors from the food and the lovely serving dishes, u just want to eat. It's a happy feeling to be able to share the dishes and enjoy them w friends.
Staff friendly. It was full house when we were there on a Friday night. Can get noisy.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Whether your with friends or your with family, you find yourself comfortable within the atmosphere of this place. The selection of dishes is great and everything is executed very nicely. The service is slow though and the food does not come out for everyone at the same time and you end up eating alone after everyone has finished. The prices are affordable and the portions are a good size. Definitely my go to place for Thai food
Ordered the crispy pork with Chinese brocoli with garlic and oyster sauce. Was not disappointed. The taste was just perfect, pork remained crispy despite being indulged in garlic and oyster sauce. Service was very good and an overall great dining experience.
Prices were very affordable and cheap.
Booking seems to be a must on fri-sun as it gets very busy.
Had a great time eating here, the customer service is excellent no complaints there. The food is very good, I wish it was bigger per serving as I am a big eater.
Pad thai, massaman curry was delicious. The red duck curry, deep fried crab and thai fried rice however was ok, as I have tasted better elsewhere.
Hard to find parking here, but worth it in the end. Enjoyed the night a great place to eat.
Went for my Daughters Birthday on Saturday night, it was fully booked and we immediately thought the wait would be long....not so! Excellent service and amazing food, do not eat here without trying the Chicken Satay skewers for entree and the Crispy Pork and Chinese Broccoli for main....only down fall was they were a little heavy handed with the pepper in the Fried Rice with Seafood.
On arrival you get complimentary PRAWN CRACKERS! by this stage you know its going to be a good night. Entree's in my opinion let this beautiful restaurant down. It just didn't do it for my taste buds. However the main meals such as the satay chicken stir-fry or the green curry chicken were very delicious (GET THE GREEN CURRY CHICKEN). If you dare, try ordering the meals spicy. The interior is soooo cute definitely recommend for a first date or if you want to show off to your friends suggest Khao San Road.
Great little place. Took the family here for a meal. We all loved the pork hock and snapper dishes.
Service is fast and friendly. Great price.
Will eat again here.
Never Thai anywhere else.. Not even in Thailand! Never fails everytime! Massaman curry & Crispy pork with Chinese broccoli are favourites!!!
beautiful food. Beautiful service. Lovely atmosphere. I think this is one of the best
Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Thanks for a lovely meal.
So good! Found this place by chance while lost in the area and the food did not disappoint. The red duck curry and masaman curry was full of flavour and wasn't too heavy or creamy. Pad Thai was good with just the right amount of sauce. Tom yum soup was nice though serving size was abit small for the price.
It's a little more upmarket than most Thai places that I frequent, but I enjoyed my meal and drink here. I had stir fried veggies and there was a great array of vegetables and it came with free rice! It was $18.90 which I think is a little expensive for what it was. Service was ok, bathrooms were clean, and overall I think this is a good option for a nice evening out.
Usuing prerty busy. Good service, solid Thai food for Melbourne and i ha e never had anything bad off the menu but a little expensive for what you get.
Similarly satisfying was the Beef Pud Kee Mau ($16.9) – a tangle of stir-fried rice noodles garnished with aromatic sweet basil, crisp veggies, and tender slices of beef. What really impressed me though was the texture of the noodles – instead of disintegrating like most rice noodles do, these were chewy and elastic, making them utterly addictive and slurpable.
Pretty hectic place for Thai food, but no where near as good as saowanee Thai up K road. That place is a beast and will always be on my mind because I love my Thai food
Khao San Road just never disappoints. I've been coming here for many years and have NEVER had a bad meal. Hands down best Thai in Melbourne.
10/10 for both food and service! Our waiter got it just right - super helpful, without being 'in your face' like some can be when it comes to recommendations and such... The food - spot on. As recommended, we ordered just the right number of dishes between 3 (2 entrees, 2 mains, and a serve of rice each), and the level of spice was exactly what we'd asked for. Delicious! Love your work Khao San Road!
Been here about 5 times, service can be a little odd with the timing but food here is pretty good. I avoid the back as it can get noisy and a little dark.
I just love coming here! What a great Thai restaurant!
Last time my girlfriend and I came in for dinner without a booking with the restaurant very busy, the lovely gentlemen that served us managed to find us a table and was very accommodating and looked after us all night! Great job guys!
Second time here. Still good. I loved the roti bread. Fragrant, and the texture was just right. Went really well with the curry. The vegetarian pad Thai was great too. I liked that the glass noodles weren't too dry like some pad Thai could be if stir fried for too long. The chives dumplings (not the yum cha kind) were quite palatable too. The curry puffs were yummy - crunchy on the outside with lots of fillings inside. The tofu clay pot and stir fried vegetables were pretty average. Maybe because by the time I ate some, it was lukewarm. The mussaman curry wasn't the most authentic, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Another good dining experience at Khao San. Will definitely be back for more.
The best Thai restaurant in Moonee Valley!
My favorite padthai! ! Second favorite red curry, third favorite Papaya salad. All very yummy delicious.
Everything was good. The only downside is im vegetarian and we asked for swapping the crap and dried shrimp to Tofu. They said will charge us $3 extra. Which mean I have to pay $14.90 + $3 = $17.90 for a papaya salad. Unreasonable. Don't understand crap and shrimp is expensive than tofu.
Will still go back as the food is really good but wont be very often.
Been driving past this restaurant for ages and always noticed it was busy, now I know it's because the food is amazing. I loved the atmosphere and the quality of the food, I've been to many Thai restaurants in the past, this restaurant has become my favourite!
My new favourite Thai resturant! My partner and I had springrolls and mixed samosas for entree then main we had pad thai and satay chicken. All of the food was delicious. Great service and I loved the decor.
