Review Dear Abbey - Moonee Ponds

Miss Jen Ortiz
Ambiance is good. Super yummy food worth the wait. Coffee and juices are delicious too! I ordered the Japanese Seared Yellow-Fin tuna is super fresh and tasty. I have tried pork belly is tender and the moist is perfect not dry and not too wet and just the perfect size. Went home with happy tummy. We’ll definitely come back. Highly recommended👌🏽

Quite warm during the summer days but apart from that the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere with mouth watering food. Their menu is different compared to every other brunch spot with their own twists and take ons to their dishes making it a hit recipe. I highly recommend the eggs beneduck! Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu

Gorgeous, naturally well-lit place, a lovely ambience. The ricotta hotcake was fluffy and had a good combination of sweet and sour flavors, soft and crunchy textures. Staff was kind enough to cook the yellowfin tuna a bit more when requested.

The food was really good, amazing service, friendly staff, coffee was just the way I wanted ❤️ Overall loved our brunch. Special Thanks to the staff who organised candle and music for us, and made our special brunch extraordinary, I hope you received your reward. We loved the salad and hotcakes, it was amazing, the food were cooked to perfection- neither too oily nor not too sweet, healthy and light ❤️ Keep up with the amazing service, will visit again ❤️

🌶 Chilli Scrambled Eggs 🍳 Abbey Hot Plate Dear Abbey cafe is a little unique from the rest, as it is housed inside a 1890’s Wesleyan church. The staff are energetic and friendly, and serve amazing coffee. You with find that the menu has a contemporary asian influence to it. ⛪️ Not too sold on any of the other options I went with a Chilli Scrambled which sadly I didn’t sense any chilli heat or flavour. My partner went with the Abbeys Hot Plate which is their version of a big breakfast and found it to be great value. 🍳 It was an nice meal however nothing I was wowed over or couldn’t have made at home myself. I had visited multiple times when it first opened years ago and used to love their Hotcakes and Baked Eggs! Not sure what changes have been made since then but I don’t think another visit is on the cards for me.

Dropped in for brunch and had a great dining experience. Ordered the lunch special Steak Sandwich and the wife had the Duck Benedict. Steak was cooked medium rare which is what I prefer and tasted yummy with the cheese and bacon. As expected fries were included and the beer battered fries and aioli were also tasty. The Eggs Bene-Duck was a bit more of an interesting dish, don't normally have duck in my eggs benedict but it worked. Don't really understand how it works but Peking duck, Peking hollandaise sauce served on toasted roti was a delight. The dish is on the heavier side but I don't mind that. lots of flavour and would eat it again. For drinks I wanted to try the cold brew but they were out so I just had an iced latte and it was a lovely tasting coffee. Will pop in again when I'm in the area. Also I think it's amazing how they've remodelled the interior of a church into a café.

The staff were friendly. Food was amazing and plates were full. Service was quick. Great atmosphere. Will definitely come back.

One of my first stops after ISO restrictions; it was so good to be able to dine out again. It feels like a completely different world, with so many new changes; but it's still a fantastic feeling to be out. The staff at Dear Abbey were brilliant, and excited to be seating diners again. After months of takeaway and eating at home, it was lovely to sit and enjoy a coffee made by someone else. The barista here knows their stuff, and the coffee was delicious.

Choosing a chorizo omelette and the hotcake as our meals, we didn't have to wait too long. The omelette was so fluffy, and the cheese and chorizo had so much flavour. Seasoned perfectly, I loved the soft omelette with the crunchy toast.

The hotcake was a sight to behold. Served in it's own mini pan, this was one giant, thick hotcake topped with heaps of fresh fruit including beautiful dragon fruit and stunning passion fruit. Mascarpone cut through the richness, and the jar of syrup was plentiful, so you could literally drown your hotcake in it. To finish it off were two crispy nutella tortellini which were fun, crunchy and oozy with nutella. Yum!!

With social distancing measures in place, and hand sanitizer available; it's clear that the team at Dear Abbey have their customers best interests at heart. The staff were friendly and chatty, the food and coffee excellent; and the atmosphere in this light filled cafe was cosy and welcoming. It really is a joy to visit this lovely cafe, and I'm so glad we stopped by.

Food was delicious and service very friendly! We brought our baby in a capsule and the staff were very accommodating.

Had the Beef Brisket burger and pork belly. The brisket was beautiful and pork belly was amazing! Service was incredibly friendly and the coffee was perfect. A great place to visit while in Moonee Ponds

This place is amazing. I love this place, location is nice and easy to get to, the building itself is pretty cool. I go here often and the staff are very friendly, always chatting and polite. I always order the avocado or the duck and they're great. The only thing is the coffee is sometimes good and other times not (hit or miss), but the barista always draws cute little art.

Coffee was amazing and the Mexican Chicken Burger is very solid!

Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Verdict: 👍
Nice cafe with a great seating area. Can’t say much about the eggs on toast. Coffee could have been better. The pudding (not pictured) was good.

Came here for lunch and we love the restaurant atmosphere
We tried the soba salad with tuna and angel hair pasta with fresh seafood

The food were awesome and they served good coffee too
Friendly staff and great service

Such a perfect spot for this beautifully decor cafe. The big glass windows at the front had me from the get go, once I walked in I could see more of how cute this cafe was!
I caught up with a friend for brunch and I got the Brekky Bowl and my friend ordered the Eggplant dish, we both really enjoyed our meals. I liked that I felt satisfied and not overly bloated or full after it.
All the staff seemed nice and friendly as well, would definitely come back!

Dear Abbey is housed in an old church, filled with natural light. I’ve driven past a million times and it has always been busy. Staff are super friendly and the menu has a good variety. We ordered the mushroom and chorizo omelette, baked eggs and angel hair spaghetti. The omelette was a little dry and lacked flavour. The baked eggs were hearty and very filling. The spaghetti was served with generous portions of seafood and a rich tomato and white wine sauce. Highly recommend it. The coffee was good too. A great local spot for brunch!

We loved 😍
This place is super cute and on the side of a church. The hotcakes were delicious and picturesque.

We disliked 😖
Although the menu was delicious, there wasn’t much variety.
Pinch Of Bacon
The food here was scrumptious!!! We enjoyed every mouthful!!! The service was also very good with the staff all being friendly and helpful. There was a bit of a wait for the table but it was worth it.
The Honest Glutton
What a wonderful lunch venue! Such a gorgeous cafe with large windows letting us all bask in the natural sunlight.

My friend and I ordered the baked eggs w/ Chorizo and the eggs bene-duck.

The baked eggs were super hearty and delicious. Highly recommend this dish.

The eggs been-duck was a below average dish, however. The duck was quite dry and wasn’t that stand out. Most of the dish was just dry roti bread, with four small slices of duck and two poached eggs and an excuse of a Benedict sauce. I’d expect more for a $20 dish.

However we had good service and it was an enjoyable lunch still.

A lovely cafe by the church just opposite Woolies. Plenty of parking just opposite the main road. We came for Saturday brunch at around 1130 am and the cafe was packed. We were told there will be about 15-20 min and happy to put our name down for a table. The cafe is clean, cosy and spacious. The wait didn’t feel long and staff was very friendly. While waiting, we ask for the menu and looked at the food display which had an interesting range of pastries, health snack balls, doughnuts and slices! Once we are seated, we’ve decided what to order ie Bene Duck, Abbey hot plate + chorizo, Golden latte, beetroot latte! We requested for change of table and to sit somewhere closer to the heater and the staff was very happy to accomodate. Our food arrived just about the same time we swapped the table. The Golden and beetroot latte might be a new hype but I think it’s an acquired taste! We can’t drink more than a couple of sips of the tumeric latte. The food were very tasty and generous in portion. We will definitely return to try their lunch menu another day!

The food was ok (7/10), the coffee average (6/10), and the service very poor (1/10).

My friend and I shared breakfast, and wished to split the bill. The staff were completely unwilling to consider this, as their policy on weekends is "no split bills". I can see how split bills might be problematic for a table of 10, but we are talking 2 people, 2 meals, 2 coffees.

Some petulant kid lectured us from behind the coffee machine, telling us we had no right to demand a split check, and it would not be done in future. He is correct, they won't need to split our bill in future, as I will take my custom elsewhere.

Regardless of the food and bev, we left with a bad taste in our mouths.

It is 2019, this venue has a flash OrderMate point of sale system designed to split bills, and regardless of that, it is time for cafes and restaurants to grow up, learn to do basic math, and split bills on request.

Popped in for an early lunch and was impressed by the menu and the staff. Great coffee too. Only negative was that it was a bit cold to sit comfortably but I appreciate it was a rainy Melbourne day.

So I’ve been craving crispy pork belly and this cafe has been on my list of places to go to since I saw a photo of the mouth watering pork dish on my friends insta… lucky we were in the area for Harvey’s Babyspa date with his cousin Olivia (which they had had awesome time). So of-course I had the Lime Caramel Pork Belly with crackling. It came with a miso carrot puree which was very light and smooth. The autumn stir-fried veg included some deliciously cooked carrot, apple and bok choy salad mixed with a honey soy glaze which was sweet and tangy at the same time. The pork belly was very tender and moist but needed a pinch more salt. But so satisfying!!!
Catherine
Amazing food and speedy, friendly service. There is a lovely courtyard so you can share a meal with your four-legged friend. Highly recommend the scrambled eggs - probably the best I’ve ever had. The zucchini corn fritters and coffee were also excellent.
NothingButTruth
Great coffee nice and cheap for the area something you can afford every day. It’s nice that the baristas can remember your faces and always have a smile on so you can start your day 😀
TigerTreeEats
Ordered the fritters and eggs beneduck. He really liked the latter dish, duck was done well and roti complemented it. Fritters could use more beetroot hommus - it lacked flavor. Coffees were fine.

Dear Abbey has the most friendliest staff. Always friendly and great coffee food and atmosphere . My go to place always even for just a coffee . Highly recommend.
Love the cakes they have here. Chips were also really good. Coffee was okay abit on the bitter side. Cute cafe here. Great service. Salad was okay

It's been a while since we've been here for breakfast and sadly it's starting to look a little tired with chipped paint, grime and dirty air conditioning vents easy to spot. We were a party of seven and we had a good sized table that was unfortunately next to a store room and a dish collection station that meant a steady stream of staff bumping my chair and the scraping of dishes behind me. Apart from this the staff were all very friendly and polite and we were not kept waiting long to get their attention. Coffees and juices came out quickly and the coffees were very good. No one complained about their meals, my macadamia and cranberry muesli was huge and really very good and super enjoyable to eat with the right amount of sweetness and crunch with a lovely saffron poached pear to top it off. I'll be back but the owners should look at a little maintenance to spruce up this restaurant a little to really provide a better eating experience in a great venue.

It is a good location for shoppers and locals, they have decent decoration, edible food, only if they trained their staffs properly then this cafe could have flourished more. All other comments about staffs attitudes, I concur. Some of their staffs have serious self image problems, this is a cafe, not a palace, I don’t understand why those arrogant thoughts derived from. A few walking past me without asking if I want to order, one ignored me when I tried to signal, lol, made me kind of feel sorry for their friends and families if this is the way they treat them. I have to say, not all of them are bad, one with dark hair was quite friendly compared to the rest.
The food was not bad, nothing wowed me.
I can see it is still a very crowded cafe, good on them. I only wish they could have provided a better service so that customers feel welcomed here.
I had Eggs Bene-Duck and it was amazing. Great ambiance, very pretty.
I understand it's popular and busy but service can be a little better.

古い教会を利用した素敵なカフェ。フードが想像以上においしかった。オススメです。

The plates arrive. All the food looks great. Pretty looking food. Photogenic tucker. Instagramish presentation. Once we four started eating, the effusiveness abated. Talks the talk but sadly, loses on the walk. (Also lost a point for butter pat in a catering blister pack). Tastes merely fine.
@brunchgirl
Basically, this cafe is the greatest thing to come to Moonee Ponds. I life in the North East and I travel regularly just to visit! The food is super tasty with a bunch of experimental items such as Ricotta hotcakes with Nutella dumplings or Matcha waffles with a pistachio cream. We had great service even though the cafe was busy!
Trickyniky1
Have been to Dear Abbey several times now, and they haven’t failed to disappoint. The roasted chickpea salad had a great combination of flavours with the fat fries being nice and crispy. The staff were pleasant, the service was fast and the cafe is quite a cool place to sit and chat with the quite impressive structure.
Just Eating
Ambience is clean, light filled and spacious.

Staff was okay - have to get attention when require assistance.

Food:
Pork belly - this was only reason I wanted to try this place. The presentation was lovely. However the pork meat itself is very dry as it was pretty thick. Also, only one of the two slices of pork belly was actually “crispy”. I couldn’t taste any ‘caramelised’ and sauce-wise needs more on the plate so can use to offset the dryness of the meat.

Wagyu burger - husband said it was “alright”. I didn’t get to taste so cannot elaborate further.

Total bill: $55 for 2 mains and 2 drinks (juice and coffee)

I had high expectations for this cafe due to reviews. Menu looked delicious. Coffee was good. We ordered the truffled forest mushrooms. Quite skimpy on toppings to be honest but food was tasty. We also had the peanut butter muffins which tasted like neither. Food had great potential but there was a lack of the mentioned ingredients. Also, would appreciate the floor staff to wear more appropriate clothing where their bum cheeks aren’t showing - it’s a cafe.
Zacquilinelao
Everything was quite average and tasted good but at the same time, nothing really wowed me. I ate here I think about a year ago and I had something that tasted amazing but didn’t get the same feeling when I ate this time around. My friend and I ordered the same thing and his was a lot saltier than mine so maybe work on being consistent. Lovely place and love the decor

GREAT COFFEE! Balanced, nutty, full flavour. Food is very good with clean flavours but not exceptional like the big cafe players. Beautiful decor and incredibly attentive staff.
Madamcafebeing
Not only is this the best coffee in Moonee Ponds - on special days you’ll get coffee art😊 breakfast menu is delicious and service is always spot on here. Our local favorite.
Keeely
We ordered the truffle mushrooms and the ricotta hot cakes. The food was absolutely amazing and the mushrooms were done so perfectly. However, the only downfall was the service. The staff there was not friendly at all and came off as somewhat arrogant.

I followed Dear Abbey Cafe on Instagram for a while and I stumbled upon a Post of their Pork Belly dish 😍 . Anyone who knows me well knows I’m a Pork Belly FAN!. I made time today to take my daughter for a little Mother and daughter lunch date to try this amazing dish. Let’s just say it was love at first sight! I can’t even explain how beautifully cooked it all was. The crackling had the perfect crack and crunch and still managed to melt in your mouth. The pork was beautifully tender and presented well. I wish there was more pumpkin puree but it was all delish. The lime caramel sauce was a very surprising addition, it complemented the dish so well. Yum!
Jenny
Delicious fresh squeezed juice and food. Minimal washing up required; if you know what I mean. Located very conveniently from moonee central

What a cute little brunch spot! Enjoyed the simple menu here. I had the truffle mushrooms and couldn't fault it. The eggs were perfectly poached, the trio of mushrooms were buttery and the asparagus was so perfectly paired with the dish. The matcha latte was smooth and had a nice green tea flavour.
The staff was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go back to try out the rest of the menu.
I Hate Cooking
The coffee is great, served as I orderd it. Tea comes in a pot which is good but how about an extra pot of hot water (just like the good old days)
The side order of chips were delicious.
Scrambled eggs were a tiny portion and the toast was like cardboard, definitely would not recommend. My daughter ordered a serve of toast with Vegemite (no butter) and was given a tiny amount of Vegemite and as such asked for more, then got charged $1 for it!! They didn't deduct the butter that she didn't want from the price but did add $1 for Vegemite.
On principle I will NOT be back, as I certainly don't mind paying for food and drink but I hate being ripped off.

Decided to take Dad here for Father’s Day unfortunately wasn’t overly impressed.
There’s no denying that the decor is fantastic. The coffee is nice also but in terms of food quality, it wasn’t amazing like we’d hoped. We ordered the scrambled eggs and it was a tiny serving, like a kids meal size. No more then one egg was used on a single slice of toast. We also got the Billy Bargo Breakfast, it was also on the smaller side especially when your paying $20..
Would return for a coffee but not to eat.

Dear • Abbey • This has been on my list to go to for such a long time, not just for the food but I was just so intrigued when I found out this place use to be a church!!! Abbey hotplate, with beans, mushroom, tomatos, potato rosti everything you can bloody think of! Only bad thing is, is that you have to pay $3.50 extra for bacon. Ricotta hot cakes, with red wine poached pear.... omg heaven 😍 so sweet yet so balanced, customer service is so friendly, and price reasonable considering size! #foodporn #foodblogger #breakfast #bacon

Pros: the coffee art is sooo cute! Defs photo worthy. Green tea latte was amazing. The truffle scrambled eggs were very mouth-watering and fluffy. The eggs-bene duck was different and worth a try. Peking duck goes pretty well with poached eggs and I love how the dish was with roti bread. Service was excellent, the waiter let us sample some of the lattes as we didn't know what was good or not. Environment is very chic and modern for a cute brunch date.

Cons: the roti bread was a bit tough, it was hard to cut through. Also ordered the potato rosti on the side and it was mediocre also, a bit dry. Beetroot latte was presentable however it was pretty average, just beetroot and milk basically.

Stopped by for a quick drink but was very impressed by the atmosphere.

Whilst waiting for our chai and matcha latte, natural light flooded the area which really put a put us in a positive mood. When our drinks came out, the attention to detail and the whimsical nature of adding coffee art was awesome.

We were seated near a calming blue colour scheme but as we walked through dear abbey each 'section' had a different concept. It really gave you a taste of the grandeur of the place but even at 2pm - past brunch hour - it was still quite busy.

I look forward to coming back to try the food but am also concerned about the busy traffic. But seeing the raving reviews on Zomato, might be worth to give it a try and brave the brunch rush.
Zero Cool😎😎😎
A great cafe. I tried the chicken wrap with sweet potato chips and my partner ordered the sago pudding. Both dishes were good. Cafe looked clean and the staff was attentive and friendly. Will definitely go back!

Great food with lots of variety and flavour combination. Venue is gorgeous, unfortunately service is very slow and we never received drinks order.

Great cafe in central Moonee Ponds in a quirky setting being an old Church. I had the Tapioca pudding. It was lovely and came out piping hot with fresh berries. The flavour was spot on and a very generous serving size. Personally it was a bit sweet for my taste, but I really enjoyed it. I also had an Almond Milk latte which was strong and quite nice. I went there with my newborn who was in a pram. It isn’t exactly disabled/pram friendly as there is no lift to get in, but the waitress came out and helped me to carry the pram in and out (approx 6-7 steps). She was lovely and very helpful.

Got a table straight away, but was then left waiting for a menu. I had to ask for the menu.
The food however was excellent and the size was perfect

Great vibes, love the atmosphere. They serve great coffee and desserts options (available on the display). Looking forward for trying their food next time.

This place is always busy, despite that, the staff is very polite and try to accommodate you all the time. The coffee is really good. Nice acidity, full body strength. I had 3 espresso. I'm going to have a latte soon. I Belive will be awsome;-)
AlwaysHungry
Great variety on the menu, staff are sometimes helpful...
I’ve eaten there several times and generally eat the same 2 meals because I’ve annoyed them every time with questions (due to dairy intolerance) only to discover on my last visit there that there is indeed dairy in something I was going to order that I normally eat there (which explained the nausea after my last visit there because I was told that the peanut butter was dairy free but was then advised it isn’t dairy free... who puts dairy products in peanut butter?!?).
I haven’t been back since just because I don’t know if I want to eat there again...
Markmazzeo4
Cool place with an awesome vibe especially run through the staff. Location and setting is amazing! The chicken wrap and pork belly are exceptional as well as the high quality coffee!
Rhiannon Beck
Nice strong coffee. Staff were happy to assist customer with a pram to navigate the front stairs. Tapioca Pudding was delicious & warm with a layer of berry compote underneath. Forget porridge, this is the perfect winter breakfast. Will be back soon.
Jessica Claire
Very polite and helpful staff, awesome coffee with retro decor and cozy atmosphere. The açai bowl and green machine juice were an awesome plant based combo.
Stelly
What a lovely cafe! The venue is very unique, built in front of a church with lots of natural sunlight through the glass framework. Fantastic vibe and lovely staff.

Coffee is amazing - very smooth and strong. We had the cold brew and the Bailey’s iced coffee, which came in very cute glasses where you pour the coffee in yourself. We also tried the butter mafia “black widow” dessert, but found it a bit too sweet for our liking.

Overall, this is such a cute little cafe and it’s always super busy on the weekends! Definitely will return to try their food menu!
Cheese Toastie
Amazing coffee. Really good vibe. Prompt and friendly service. Food was equally as awesome.
Will definitely be coming back and might even make this place our new regular brekkie joint.
MsDelish
I was in for a family breakfast. Everyone loved their choice of brekky. Especially the kids, they went for a second serving of the feta pancakes. Very happy little people they are. No airconditioning on a hot day, OMG! That is the only negative thing I have to say. Staff are very friendly, and helpful.
Mark Revill
As I am sitting here attempting to enjoy my truffled scrambled eggs and reasonable coffee there is one fairly major annoyance about the experience. A door bell. Why may you ask would a door bell feature in a food review? Good question. Well it turns out this door bell is used to alert wait staff to awaiting food orders ready to go out. A not so apparent use case appears to be annoying patrons nearby to the point of distraction. So to sum up the experience: Good food, good coffee, please get rid of the door bell.
Sakura Moon
Came here with my boyfriend and wow, beautiful breakfast! Although on a hot day there's no air conditioning so it's super hot in there, like super HOT. But nice service and tasty good food. Would come back here again. ☺
Petit Appétit
Often very busy on weekends with the amount of people that go out to eat for brunch. The atmosphere of the café is very eccentric and is perfect for meeting up with people. The staff were also very friendly and are outgoing. Though it can be a bit pricey, it becomes understandable when the meals are served.
Little Picky Very Hungry
It has been too long since I’ve posted! So here is a throwback to my First Brunch of the year 🍴First of all, the interior was beautifully filled with natural light✨Bonus points for that.
.
What drew our attention to this cage was the Ricotta Hot Cakes ($18.90) 🍐🥞which came with a red wine poached pear and freeze-dried raspberries. The portion was bigger than I expected, good enough for us to share. Pancakes were thick and fluffy🤤 The lemon maple butter syrup & vanilla fairy floss were a great addition to the hotcakes, it wasn’t too sweet and gave more moisture and flavor to the cake.
.
Billy Fargo Breakfast ($19.9) came with avocado, persian feta, bacon rocket tossed with pesto served with a poached egg on pumpkin bread. Pretty standard, would prefer bacon rasher instead of mince🥓 Taste wise good but slightly overpriced. If you something simple yet delicious, this is your go to meal.
.
Great coffee, cute coffee art 🐻 Service was OK, room for improvement. Would come back for more if I am around.
Josie Wood
I recommend this place. The service is great with laid back workers. The vegie stack i ordered was delicious and I'd definately choose it again. Also got a dirty chai, which is often hard to recieve a nice one, but this place does a great dc.
ErinP
I ate the Baked eggs, they were nice but the sauce was quite rich so I couldn’t finish it. The coffee was great! Pleasant staff made for a nice breakfast experience.
Gastrology
The venue is wonderfully inviting with plenty of natural streaming through whether you seat in corridors, terrace or main glass room. The menu is dedicated to the deliciously inventive dishes made from fresh produce with the focus on flavour. . We shared two dishes during our visit and loved them both.
XiaoHui Teo
Love the atmosphere of this cafe, very warm and cosy. Nice varieties of food from their all day breakfast and lunch menu. We ordered the wagyu beef burger and the Japanese yellow fin tuna to share. The flavours of the tuna were really well balanced and I just can't have enough of the flavoursome king prawns that come with the dish! Will definitely recommend it to my friends!
Donita
I’ve been wanting to come to this cafe and today i get chance to come with friend. I’m ordered ricotta hotcakes & beetroot latte as those are everywhere on insta. The food came reasonably quick, was curious with the hotcakes taste and I’m disappointed on the first bite. The hotcakes taste just like a wholemeal flour, tasteless, very dense & cakey which is not my liking. The syrup was overly sweet, the ok part only the poached pear. My friend taste it and said it was like hotcakes from Maccas. The beetroot latte taste like chai latte in red colour. I can’t finish one half of hotcakes and feel just throw my $20ish. To cafe management, please check the food quality & taste before put high price, pretty look food is nothing if the food taste is disappointed.

Love the atmosphere and that it’s in a church.
Staff were friendly and attentive, would have liked if they came to check up on us.
Need aircon! The fans just barely keeps us alive.
Loved the tapioca pudding, served warm and filling.
The açai bowl was perfectly healthy.
The 3 cheese sanga was tasty and fulfilling.
The fat chips were fresh and crunchy, lovely coating.
We also ordered the slushy of the day which was lychee mint and pear, very cool for a hot day.
Love that they do breakfast and lunch all day.
Take your lover, friends and family here for tasty brunches.

> Ricotta Hot Cakes with red wine poached pear, freeze dried raspberries, lemon maple butter syrup, vanilla fairy floss + a mini jar of Nutella <

Dear Abbey is a large café in the heart of Moonee Ponds. They are located in what used to be a church, so the layout is quite classical and the exterior looks like a church. The staff are extremely friendly and are down for a casual chat. They are helpful in choosing what food to order and provide some great suggestions. These hotcakes were super thick and very fluffy. They have so much flavour, and with the lemon maple butter syrup poured on top, it is quite sweet and definitely filling! The poached pear is a perfect addition to the presentation as it really makes the dish pop and brings a refreshing flavour to the overall taste of the dish. The fairy floss tops these hotcakes off as it adds to the presentation and flavour of this meal. overall, I would highly recommend going here just to try these hotcakes! They are seriously delicious and very filling. I would recommend sharing this dish with someone, however, if you have a large appetite, then there is no harm in demolishing them all by yourself!

> Billy Bargo Breakfast with avocado, Persian feta, bacon, tomato + rocket tossed with pesto served with a poached egg on a pumpkin bread <

How delicious does this dish sound?! Despite how pretty the acai bowl looked, I could not resist trying this incredible savoury meal. All the elements work perfectly together and I could not have asked for a better flavour combination. The avocado and feta were so smooth and the pesto blended so nicely with both these elements. The pumpkin bread was a great alternative to normal sourdough as it added a bit more flavour and a different texture. Overall, I really enjoyed this dish as the portion size was massive so I was really satisfied when I left.

The BreakfastPiggy Team
Piggies Out, Oink oink

Fantastic location, staff were above and beyond friendly, prompt and very easy going with my two small children, especially seeing as though we came in close to closing. Nothing was too much trouble. Food, coffee and wine is well priced and plentiful and definitely a place we recommend and will return to. Thanks DA. You were a great find!
FOOD TRIP
Dear Abbey is a beautiful light filled café that does get super busy at popular brunch times. Food and drinks are good, especially their famous Bene-Duck. Worth a visit if in the area. Skim Latte $3.70. Good coffee. Creamy and smooth. No sugar needed 7.5/10. Green Machine $8.50 with Apple, Spinach, Ginger, Chia Seeds, Lemon, Mint and Ice $8.50
@thefoodiealgorithm
Ordered the veggie stack and a fruit smoothie. I was uncertain on what to order but the waitress was very helpful and thorough when explaining a few dishes. Love how the venue is setup and the colour coordination was spot on. It was absolutely buzzing when I walked in but luckily I got the spot i was hoping for, right near the window :) This place is popular for a reason, awesome food & perfect for coffee catchups 🔝

Have been here twice now and both times the food was of a good, fresh and creative standard and both times the staff were somewhat disinterested and seemed like their 'happiness' dial had been turned down. Nonetheless...the food is decent!

I've always ordered bread/egg/garnish type brunch meals and they've always pleased!

The ricotta pancakes are a big no no...they look pretty with their garnish but that's their extent!
I could throw them at the glass windows and don't expect the pancake to come out second! Also, ricotta pancakes should be sweet, fluffy...and ricotta filled. Duh. These were none of the above. Disappointing!

The breakfast/brunch meals are fresh, healthy, yummy and are pretty good value. I will happily return and continue to try to force a smile out of a staff member.
Split The Bill
We were invited to Abbey restaurant on a beautiful sunny day. It was a very busy Saturday and there were customers everywhere.
We started off with a skinny latte and cappuccino which really hit the mark.

Now we could not go pass the Ricotta Hot Cakes with red wine poached pear, freeze dried raspberries, lemon maple butter syrup & vanilla fairy floss $18.90 + Nutella $2.50. The pear was a little firm and it did prove hard to cut through.

We also enjoyed the Baked Eggs with middle eastern spiced cannellini beans, eggplant, capsicum, carrot & Persian feta w herb bread $18.9 + Chorizo $4, which was a generous serve and very delicious.

We washed this down with a very refreshing Green Machine $8.50 consisting of apple, spinach, ginger, chia seeds, lemon, mint and ice. Along with the breakfast Smoothie $8.50 which consisted of banana, strawberry, muesli,
honey and ice cream.

Both shakes were well balanced and very refreshing.

They also serve Doughboy doughnuts and we could not leave without trying the hazelnut truffle doughnuts they were so delicious.
Truth Hurts
I was in the area and needed good coffee and breakfast. This place looking appealing from the outside and was packed so I thought we couldn't go wrong. The menu had limited options with nothing on the menu that stood out. So I went with truffle scrambled eggs. It was underwhelming when it arrived. It was basically scrambled eggs, toast, mushrooms and chorizo in the side. No much effort put into the plating. As for the truffle flavour - non existent. We ordered flare whites as soon as we were seated and finished before the food aerived. The waitress quickly cleared the cups without asking if we wanted to order more coffee. Only minor thing but I decided I couldn't be bothered asking. Service isn't the best. I would probably give this place a miss. There are better options put there to spend your money on. This place just serves up the basics you could cook at home.

This is probably my third time going to Dear Abbey. The food came out at a reasonable time. I had the abbey hot plate & enjoyed everything on the dish, especially the potatoes! This cafe is quite spacious so it’s great for large groups.

Amazing. Nothing but good things to say about this cafe. I had the cranberry and macadamia museli, and also the smashed avacado. Both packed full of flavour, service was fast and attentive. Would highly recommend!

Just drove to the carpark and the cafe is opposite of street. It was 3:30pm and usually kitchen in some cafe close already. This place was very friendly and welcomed us inside. The bright modern style cafe and plenty of natural light coming through. All day breakfast is available and ordered one with extra smoke salmon. Pumpkin bread, Kumato on fresh salad and perfect portion of beautiful dish at relaxing environment. I'm very happy to visit again.

Good service, and a nice fitted or cafe. Spacious, clean and had a “fresh” feel about it. Eggs perfectly poached and a very generous serving of smoked salmon. Only critique is if you’re going to serve two poached eggs you need two slices of toast. Not one thin one cut into two. I want to have adequate bread to mop up that runny yolk!
Staff have the worst attitude.
No one bothered to see if we wanted to order, left us sitting waiting approx 15 minutes to order coffees. Waitress threw our food onto the table and walked off and all waiting staff walking around with the most sour looks on their faces - very off putting. Will not be returning!!!!!!

This cafe is phenomenal. Six of us were seated and served promptly in a beautiful little corner near the courtyard, which was perfect as we had arrived with a very fussy baby. There were so many tempting options to choose from the menu, but settled on the Peking duck benedict, which was incredible. All of the waitstaff were so hospitable, especially the waiter that seated us. We had such a wonderful time and will return again and again. A really great job to all the staff here.

I went here when it first opened and it was pretty nice I thought the breakfast was going to be presented nicer but it was just your average toast and then butter in a little packet... I then went for lunch another time and got the seafood pasta which was alright again nothing special but still nice. The coffee was good and the service was really nice as well. Overall an alright experience.

Pretty disappointed with this place. When it first opened, I thought it looked amazing and couldn't wait to try it. I finally went there with my mum and sister and it was such a letdown. The food was bland and the service like the food was below average. None of us were satisfied with the food and my sister left hungry.

Great food the seafood pasta was great, they had a huge variety of savoy and sweet foods. They were selling turmeric lattes "golden latte" and also beetroot lattes, how they do it is beyond me.

Sunday 03.09.17 at 2.30pm.
Dear Abbey is a unique cafe set in a glass fronted church.
The coffee ☕️ was tasty, but the first one I received was on the cold side.
We went with the Truffle Scrambled Eggs 🍳 and the Baked Eggs 🥘.
Both were tasty and well presented, but nothing extra special.

I went for breakfast this morning with my family. We arrived at about 8.30am as I was told by a friend that Dear Abbey gets very busy. Very friendly staff, the coffee was perfect and the Boston beans and Potato Rosti that came with the Abbey Hot Plate were delicious. I'll defiantly be back ☕️

This is a wonderful, yet simple place with some amazing food. Their slow roasted heirloom tomato and lentil burger are must try. The latte was delicious. It had been 6 months since I visited this place. I so so missed it.

Great large tables for big groups of people. No bookings on weekends but seated reasonably quickly. Good service.Food quite nice, well presented and reasonably priced. Will come here again.

Great cafe in Moonee Ponds in a great location. Built into an old church it's a pretty cool space. Good coffee and delicious milkshakes/smoothies. The Hotcakes are probably my pick of the menu, soooo good! Outdoor seating too which is puppy friendly. Definitely check it out 😊

Normally i like to try different places for breakky/brunch but ever since i discovered this place i cant get enough! Seriously one of the best menus I've had the pleasure of trying and let me tell you I'm a fuss pot. My friends and I have never been disappointed with anything we've tried on the menu, ALWAYS FRESH AND CONSISTENT and the coffee is amazing!

The service is also reasonably good, they once forgot our coffees but rectified the situation by taking them off our bill, which is an absolute superstar move!

Do yourself a favor and try this place out, even if there is a wait it's so worth it!

Best breakfast in all of moonee ponds. Coffee is fantastic and the wait staff are amazing. Poached eggs on multigrain and a side of Bacon!!! You can't go wrong.

Love the coffee. Great food had a squid ink burger previously. It was good. This time I had the pork belly which was yum 👍. Service was good food came pretty quick. It a must for coffees as they have the best coffee I've ever had

Let's just start by saying this place looks and feels
really cool. The vibe and ambience are awesome. The single origin coffee we had was Amazing!! The service was friendly and the waitresses that served us were very good. The down side is we waited 55 minutes for our food. I know this place is always busy but it seems to be the standard that we wait a fair while to eat. Pricing is fair and the options are a plenty. My daughter and I had the eggs benny duck on roti bread. While it sounds amazing the duck was dry, the roti bread was over cooked and the sauce was bland. It was a real disappointment. On the other hand the truffle scrambled eggs are amazing. This place for me is one of those places that you know about.... You like....But you don't visit too often. It's very nice but nothing jumps out to you as wow. It's definitely worth visiting, but save it for a week day when it's not too busy so you won't wait endlessly for a table and your food.
3 stars.

The staff were VERY friendly and caring. They even asked if I was lactose intolerant relating to my soy hot chocolate and to ensure I knew my food had milk in it. How awesome! Cheers :)

Yum! Beautiful building, lovely food and excellent presentation. We sat in the winter sunshine in the atrium section, warm as toast. You could have sworn it was a warm spring day. Great coffee, impressive food selection. The only thing I would suggest is serving small wedges of butter instead of in a small packet, to keep with the classy vibe!

The place looks pretty special and the food and coffee definitely didn't disappoint. The tuna sashimi was excellent, the stove top coffee was great and the staff were really friendly. Cool cafe.

Ate a veggie burger and sweet potato fries here. the fit out of the venue is great and very comfortable. My meal was about $18 and I didn't love it. It was a serviceable burger but if I ate here again I'd choose something else. Egg heavy breakfast menu items for the brunch lovers out there!

Overpriced dishes that lack quality. There are so many better cafe options in the North that there is no reason to ever return to this one. Dear Abbey tries hard to fit the Melbourne cafe mould but comes up completely short. Yet it still charges typical Melbourne cafe prices. Melbourne, this is not a quality cafe and you are better off spending your hard-earned dollars elsewhere, where thought and care goes into the food.

The heirloom tomato dish lacked, well, delicious tomatoes! The baked eggs dish was cold and had a crusty film over it from sitting under the heat for too long. The staff were frazzled by the crowds, completely underestimated our wait time and simply weren't up to scratch.
