Review Wills Dumplings - Moonee Ponds

The staff are welcoming. I ordered Singapore-style noodles 星洲米粉. It's so aromatic - warm, spicy, sharp peppery taste, onion, and garlic. Chicken and prawn in it. Delicious! It is almost not usual that I order Singapore stir-fry noodles in a foreign country, as I know it's not easy to cook and taste alike, lack of herbs or spices. But this one, you guys have to give it a go.

Fantastic food!! You won't regret it! I keep coming back and I keep leaving happy and satisfied. I like that it's easy to just sit and enjoy watching the busy kitchen and see the hoards of delivery and take away orders come through. Sipping on jasmine tea, eating some juicy pork dumplings makes me happy.

I had pork noodles and kinda like it. Nice servings. Definitely recommend.

Really great food here. The place was quite busy at lunch time with contractors who all seemed to be ordering a lunch special which was huge and also ridiculously reasonably priced. We went for a selection of dumplings and they were absolutely excellent. There was plenty of filling in them all, jn fact more than plenty; they were very generous. Quick, lovely food, great prices and friendly staff. Loved it!

I've only tried a few items on the menu & can honestly say everything i have tried has been really tasty.. so full of flavour! I absolutely love the Northwest China style stir-fried beef with cumin! I have eaten here quite a few times over the past two years & I have come to realize that I have no complaints! There is plenty of seating inside and several tables out front. Will continue to order takeaway or dine in here.

Will's Dumpling might be one of the best places to eat in Melbourne. The food is always fresh and full of flavour, the service is great, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it's very clean. I have returned multiple times and enjoyed myself every time.

Stumbled upon Wills Dumplings and was apprehensive at first. Sat down, ordered and the food came out within five minutes. The food was spectacular. Box hill and Glen Waverley have got nothing on this place. Wow.

Nice place with lots of options available. We ordered their popular menu which was crispy chicken with BBQ sauce, boiled prawn dumplings, and tofu with century eggs and pork floss. They were quite tasty and the serving size was good. The place itself was quite spacious and quite many customers when we went there for dinner on Wednesday.

I think I possibly could have found dumpling heaven. Can't get enough of the poached prawn and chicken dumplings in sesame and chilli oil that I came back the next day with friends. The beef noodle soup is also beautiful, aswell as the chicken rice dish and noodles. Can't wait to try more of the dumplings and other dishes. Definitely will be a weekly local

Absolutely amazing, consistent taste and dumplings to die for! We keep coming back for the great food!

I think I have just found the best xiaolongbao (Shanghai dumplings) in Melbourne! Whether steamed or pan fried, the thin skins, soup-filled insides, and generous filling really hit the spot. Only the ones I've had in Shanghai are anywhere near this good! :F

Fresh and delicious, fantastic service, and awesome customer service! Thanks so much. We keep coming back

I returned quickly for the dumplings this time around...just passing by and couldn't resist. Other food items are delish.

By far the best dumplings my boyfriend and I have ever had. After trying other places we always come back to wills! Such a hidden gem
Excellent dumplings, handmade on premises. Friendly service.

Steamed Pork & Vegetables Dumpling was great!
It was well cooked and together with soy sauce and chili oil it became very delicious. I liked it.

First lunch in Melbourne which was sensational fried rice and soup dumplings, good jobs! Better than what I had just a week ago in china town London...

Unfortunately wills has gone downhill the past few years. Wouldn't recommend as much as some of these people.
Food and service have made it a miss for us and I'm really disappointed because it used to be wonderful.

Wish I could give a positive review like the one my girlfriend gave before we got to the restaurant. The food looked really nice.
Unfortunately 1 hour after ordering with the rushed chashier we were told our order hadn't been received.
So we left hungry and picked up an equivalent of our ordered meal from Coles for 1/4 of the price.
I'd be embarrassed to have this place named after me.
Obviously a lack of management with the "rush" a dinner restaurant finds on a Friday night.
Located in a great position in the middle of Puckle street is this great little relaxed restaurant with a lot of charm, perfect for a quick lunch or dinner date! Staff are so lovely and welcoming as soon as you walk through the door, and this love is translated into the food they serve. Everything is so delicious! You can see the dumplings being made and prepared behind the counter, which always makes me happy to see!

My favourite things to order are the boiled pork dumplings, the chicken and prawn wontons in noodle soup and the Shanghai style stir-fried noodles with shredded pork and vegetables!

People of the inner northwest, get yourself down here for top class pan fried pork dumplings, fragrant xiaolongbao, and fresh wheat noodle dishes. I just wish they did spring onion pancake! We’ll be back.

I love this place, have been eating here since they opened more than two years ago. Love the Xiao Long Bao, they are really good and comparable to the ones you find in the city, like shanghai dumplings. In fact i hardly have dumplings in the city now because of Wills, also really love the braised beef noodles, it’s rich, hearty and flavorful. Will is also very friendly!
Rhiannon Beck
Quick service. Dishes were served nice & warm, which was perfect on a cold day. Garlic sauce on prawns was beautiful. Great dumplings that you can see being made fresh as you walk in the door.
Ponzugirl
Had the braised beef noodle soup with a bit of their spicy xo sauce from the complimentaries on the table. Quick simple and satisfying dinner.
The Yabby In The Pond
Beautifully flavoured dishes, generous serves and very good value for money. Out of all the every day Chinese restaurants I've visited, this one definitely stands out. We ordered beef noodles, pan fried dumplings and fried pork chop on rice. Beef noodels were covered in juicy beef pieces with mild balanced soup flavours. Pork chop was so nicely fried - juicy and crispy, just the way it should be. It's not a snobbish place, but deserves much better rating than a lot of them. Sorry no photos, we were too busy eating.

Will’s Dumpling tastes better than it looks. The prompt service is great and friendly. It’s your typical affair regarding the décor and the space is large.

We started the food journey with homemade pan-fried prawn and minced chicken dumplings and homemade steamed Shanghai mini pork juicy buns which were fantastic. Tasted fresh and when submerged in soy sauce, vinegar and chilli fried shallots oil, they’re to die for.

The steamed cha sui buns (pork buns) were hiding under the juicy pork buns and took us awhile to realise it. We thought that it may have been missed. Communication is key when presentation is hiding food like that. As a result, the pork buns were cold, but tasty nevertheless.

Unfortunately, that is where the food seduction stopped and Will’s Dimpling trips over its own cleverness and picturesque presentation.

The diced bean curd stewed with special chilli sauce and pork mince had an abundance of chilli pieces that were about 1-2cms long. Nothing wrong with chilli pieces, I enjoy them to no end, but with every mouthful, there were about 6-7 pieces of chilli. It was swimming in them. It doesn’t need that much and according to the picture, that is not how it is supposed to be. The dish lacked flavour and was a disappointment for the price.

The last dish was an abomination. The crispy chopped chicken wings tossed with Sichuan chilli and pepper shouldn’t be served and comes with a health warning from me. The crispy chicken wings had broken bones inside of them and small shards of bone sticking on the outside and throughout them. Not only that, the amount of Sichuan chilli that was on this dish was amazing. You literally had to see the thousands of small peppers on there. Wow! Every bit made your mouth numb (I love Sichuan chilli and it packs loads full of health benefits as well, but in moderation). This dish was an expensive mistake and almost destroyed the experience for me. Some feedback to the owner: please drop 80% of the Sichuan chilli, and for the price, use QUALITY chicken pieces, not demonised pieces infused with bone found in the depths of Hell. Come on!! Despite that, the crispy chicken was delicious, you just had to watch out for all the bones poking your soul.

Will’s Dumpling makes fantastic dumplings and I assume it makes amazing food if you’re playing it safe. I was eyeing off the pork belly, but with my infinite wisdom chose the dish from Hell. Unfortunately, I had to experience the other two dishes that were mediocre, that would even send chef Ramsay into a frenzy. I should have spoken up, but from similar food cuisine experiences, I do not believe that would have done anything, and thus had to review this experience accordingly since those two meals took half the bill.

Come for the dumplings, they’re awesome, but choose your other dishes wisely, I have done the hard work for you.

Wills Dumpling’s is a restaurant down the quiet end of Puckle Street. The restaurant is fairly large with your usual Chinese Restaurant Décor. Will’s would suit a family dinner or casual catch up with friends.

They have selection of different dumplings all which are freshly prepared on premises along with a good selection of other dishes if your wanting something other than Dumplings.

On a Sunday afternoon for lunch my partner and I ordered a selection of dishes. Our dumplings were good without being great. We had pork steamed dumplings which were the best dish of the lunch. Full of flavour and came out quickly, piping hot. We also had xiao long bao (pork dumplings with the broth inside). These do not compare to other restaurants I have eaten these which is many. The skin was dry on the outside and the broth didn’t have much flavour although they were very large in size. The wonton soup was the same unfortunately and lacked any strong flavour. The Chinese Broccoli in garlic was a decent size and you could see fresh garlic had been used. Unfortunately it was a letdown because it tasted like sugar had been added and threw out the whole flavour of the dish.

Service? Service is prompt but wasn’t very friendly
Wrap up: Thumbs up for the dumplings being handmade and the pricing

Surprised to see this place open after 10pm on a Thursday, but oh boy I’m glad they were. Pan fried pork dumplings were delicious!’ Friendly service to boot. Will definitely be going back!

3.5
A restaurant like Will"s Dumplings is a welcome find.
Excellent selection of freshly prepared on premises dumplings and a good selection of other dishes to satisfy even the pickiest of diners.
Service is prompt and friendly even when very busy.
The only let down are the sticky tables and grubby menus.

We had lunch at Will's today. I am mixed in my feelings for this place. I had a pot of tea and it was awful, worse than dish water. Our dumplings were good without being great. I had 6 pork steamed dumplings with the broth inside. I love the idea- but the broth lacked any kick and the meat was pretty tasteless. The wonton soup had more of a hit, but lacked any strong flavour. The chicken and prawn dumplings looked good. The sweet potato dumpling were tasty but strange as they were a desert served on lettuce and rocket leaves. Sitting down the back of the cafe, there was a distinct stale smell- need to let the fresh air in a bit.

These are the best dumplings we have found in Melbourne! Food is so fresh. Really reasonable prices as well. We’re always coming here at least once a month just to satisfy our dumplings fix! Also very underrated, would definitely recommend! We are never disappointed.

authentic Chinese food. Love the flavour. it has become a regular restaurant for us. Friendly staff, it simply feels good that when you finish work late at 9pm. you can.still have delocious food.

Really great, fresh home made food. The dumplings are especially tasty and the ingredients are great. Friendly service, especially in a Puckle Street small business. Highly recommend.

We've ordered Chinese food from Will's a dozen times. They serve the yummist food. My personal favorite is the Sichuan chicken and pork buns. Definitely worth trying this place.

Dumpling here is very delicious with good price!!
Well, we’ve waited for 10 mins for dumplings, but it’s acceptable.

The taste of dumplings remind me when I went to chinese restaurant in China!

Great dumplings on the quieter end of Puckle. Boyfriend got the pork dumplings and I got the pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings with really nice dumpling skins and at a good price. Will come again. ☺ Edit add on: Returned here and the juicy pan fried pork dumplings and custard buns were awesome too!

This is my regular go to for awesome Asian food. Disappointed to see that it has a rating of 3.1, as it really is the best in Melbourne. My favs are the special fried rice (with what looks like slow cooked beef) and wanton soup.
Zynal Karim
I came here twice an the food was great, the service was great and the dumplings were the best I have ever had in Melbourne. This is a seriously underrated little restaurant with unadulterated, authentic, tasty Chinese food.

Actually i don't know how the good and dumpling is, but can say that's dumplings in Will's are good enough. Tried the chicken & prawn dumpling in chilli oil, they have thin skin and the spiciness can punch your mouth, just i don't like it's too oily.
Truth Hurts
I had a huge craving for dumplings after having dinner at Juicy Bao on Friday night. This was close by so thought I'd give it a try. We ordered the fried pork juicy dumplings and crispy chicken with lemon sauce and rice. The food was great and the service is super friendly. The dumplings were crispy and sauce was very tasty. The dumpling wrapper wasn't as thick as other places. I recommend stopping in if you are in the area.

Local Asian cuisine with great service and tasty home make dumplings.
Went on a Saturday night and got quite busy after 7pm.
Food came out in great time. Nice hidden gem

Will's dumpling is almost a weekly dinner venue for me - absolutely loveable dumplings, fried rice and noodle soups. Very friendly hosts too.

Noodle Dream
Thank goodness for Will.

We have now come here very regularly over the last 2 months, and the food is consistently excellent.

Not sure where Will cooked before hand, but as good as Juicy Bao in the city, better than I Love Noodles in Newmarket. Used to have to go a lot further if we wanted good dumplings.

Sometimes the service is a bit hit and miss (suspect it's family members, and sometimes they misunderstand), but that is forgiven when we get a massive plate of stir fried cumin beef and rice for $12. Good use of spice, the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are as good as Hutong and everything else is just as good. Mapo Dofu is very traditional, and they have a great range of different dishes.

Have taken many friends & family back here, and will continue to do so.

Seriously cheap, seriously good.

The price point in the overview is pretty off - we normally spend $15 - $20 pp here inc. alcohol.

The Chicken & Prawn dumplings are the best I've had in Melbourne (and I've probably eaten at 90% of Melbourne's dumpling places, by now!) Their black bean beef and sweat and sour fish is also incredibly good. Their rice tends to be on the mushy side, which isn't the best, and I have had some problems with their staff confusing orders before (but just repeating the order when ordering works fine).

Well worth the money, have been there many times, and will go again.

The best dumplings in Melbourne. And I've tried 'em all. I've been here dozens of times and every single time, the food has been amazing. Dumplings are handmade on premises and the prices are really great. The staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Puzzled look when I asked for a clean plate. Like somehow I had offended the server and this was a strenuous task. The second plate came out clean but covered in water. Clearly drying dishes is a foreign art and unfamiliar to this place. No. 23 had some reasonable taste but a bit too salty. No. 7 had good flavours. However, I was going to fill my bowl with soya sauce and found this dish was also dirty. Hmmm... not a good impression.

We went as a large group, and honestly had about half the menu, it was all amazing. The staff were very sweet and were constantly ensuring we had everything we needed. The soup dumplings were amazing, we had 3 serves by the end of the night.

Great local dumplings! Dumplings are fresh and juicy! The staff are also very friendly. Prices are also very reasonable. I highly recommend getting the Shanghai xiao long bao! Will be back very soon 😊😊

I am usually not a fan of dumplings, but after trying this place out, I am addicted. My favorite are their Pork & chives dumplings. They are a must have dish anytime I stop in. Second in my list, would be the chicken& prawns wonton soup. Everything is reasonably priced and the size is just fine. If you haven't tried this place out, I highly recommend it!!!

Shockingly bad service. We went here to eat in for dumplings and noodles on a Friday night. 3 other small groups there. Appalling service. Ordered immediately before sitting down. After a lengthy period of waiting, we had to ask for our food, and the waitress also asked us on 2 separate occasions what we had ordered. We still did not get everything. After one hour we left. The food is not that fantastic that I would wait 1 hour for.

Came here the other day by myself to have lunch. It was 1 o'clock and I quickly ordered and sat down to wait for my food. After 10 minutes I was advised that the Shanghai dumplings were sold out. I then had to order a different dish. Took around 30 minutes to receive 12 fried prawn around and chicken dumplings. There were only 8 other people in the store; most of which had already received their food. Serving size is exceptionally small. You can tell the owners are trying to save on money. Typically prawn and chicken dumplings will mince the meats together however what I received was a portion the size of my thumbs nail of chicken mince with a prawn added on top. This is a huge disappointment. Would not come here again.

Came into this store cause it was very close to where I worked and wamted to try something new out. The place looks fantastic, with the furnished restaurant and a lady at the front handmaking the food (indicating freshness). Once paid and seated, I had to wait 30 minutes just for my pan fried dumpling and siu mai (even though there were 4 other people in the restaurant). After waiting for 20 minutes, I noticed the person sitting next to me (who ordered 10 min after me) already had his food and was close to finishing. As time flew by, I noticed more and more people (who eithet ordered before or after me) got their food but not me. When I queried to them at the 30 minutes mark, the siu mai suddenly came out. Appearance? Shocking. When I asked whether they were fresh or frozen, they said fresh. You might as well forget the pan fried dumplings as they didn't even come out. When I asked them if I could have a refund for my dumplings as I'd waited over 45 min and needed to head back to work, they said they couldn't as i paid by card...
Not gonna come back here again

Will's dumpling is a new place for dumpling lovers, I came here first time and foods here impressed me a lot.
The restaurant is simple and clean, staffs here are nice and they can recommend all good food for you. I definitely recommend all kinds of dumplings here, fried or boiled, I like chicken and prawn dumpling more.
I'll definitely come here again, and I also think this place will be the best place for dining in Moone Poons.

My family and I love this place. You can tell that the dumplings are home made. The chili sauce that come with the steamed dumplings is AWESOME!!!

I recommend chicken & prawns dumplings. The serving size is pretty decent. And now I gonna order the other serve to-go for my family. You can get the sauce to-go as well.
ForForkSteak
Terrible!! Firstly waited 30 mins for our first which they got wrong. Secondly waited about 10 mins for our mains where the rice was uncooked the "fried chicken" was a cut up piece of schnitzel with BBQ sauce on it, and the chicken wings were crushed so you couldn't avoid eating bone. Would not recommend.
Did not have chop sticks of cutlery, had to ask twice for them to bring some out
Ocean Girl Charlie
Amazing pork dumpings, spicy chicken and rice and chinese broccoli were all fantastic! I love that I don't have to travel to the city now when I have a craving for tasty asian food. Can't wait to go back and try more!
Julius D'urden
I enjoyed the dumplings. The vegetarian ones were better than normal, however the meat ones were just average. I would have rated the restaurant higher, but unfortunately I felt that the servings were really small and I was left hungry at the end of it. Looking forward to their continued improvement!!
