Review Meltemi Greek Tavern - Moonee Ponds

Behnoosh Karimi
It was recommended by a Greek friend & it didn’t fail to satisfy our taste buds!
T
Friendly staff and authentic Greek restaurant feel. If you enjoy a little extra salt in your food, then this is your place. Unfortunately for us, the food was a little too salty for our liking. Entrees including dips and calamari were full of flavour. The seafood platter as part of the Santorini banquet was a little disappointing as the prawns were a little over cooked and the Morton Bay bugs lacked something special. Overall too expensive for the quality we received.

The food is so fresh here absolutely delicious! The decor is a little old fashioned and it could do with a bit of a freshen up but this restaurant I would call and old-faithful. You get a complementary glass of wine! Not many places do that these days! ...If I could leave a small amount of criticism though, and only in the name of quality improvement, I did have two dirty glasses, one for water and one for the wine. They were only mildly dirty, but I did notice it and this is a big bug bear of mine. I hope this is better next time! I will be coming back :D

Went there on Friday night for the first time. There was a reasonable crowd, seemed to be a regular for some people. Food menu was a bit misleading. Online menu hasn't been updated to remove items that have been white outed on hard copy menus so my friend couldn't get the steak she wanted. Ordered seafood pilafi which stated there would be king prawns, scallops, calamari and mussels. It was pretty much marina mix with some mussels around the outside. No prawns let alone king prawns. The tomato salsa was a bit overkill and was all I could taste, it was also rather salty. Ordered a side of chips which stated they would have oregano on them and they did not. Others at the table were also disappointed with their food, someone had the mixed gyro and said it was tough and barely ate it.

Loved it! Too much for 2 but so sad not being able to eat it all! The very best calamari, the meat platter 🤗👍 the people and ambience so so good. Get in there, so worth driving 45 minutes.
Linda
One star for the service. That is where it ends. Ordered entree grilled scallops when served I thought they were chick peas until on some I noticed this tiny orange roe. They were so hard far far to long on the grill. I have never seen scallops smaller than a five cent piece. The mixed gyros was just as burnt and dry. Calamari was just okay. They had no pride in serving this food to our table. Unfortunately we cannot return here to eat.

Came here with friends and for my a long drive across town. It was worth it. Packed with what appeared to be regulars (by the chatty familiar conversations between staff and guests), this place has just beautiful food. We started with dips followed by feta saganyaki. Main was lamb gyros. Portion sizes were good. Although I must say the dips weeent anything spectacular. The wine was a lovely Pinot Gris. Would’ve taken photos but so immersed in the experience, the company and the food I didn’t get around to it. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking isn’t too bad on Mt Alex. road. Staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much problem. Will return.

We went on a Thursday night with four people there were only four other couples in the place the whole night. We ordered mixed dips for four people, the saganaki and fried calamari for entree. Saganaki and Calamari was beautiful as was the freshly made bread. The dips were ok but came quickly very salty all. The mixed gyros platter and the whole snapper were delicious. Service was fast for food bit slow for drinks but overall would definitely return and the waitress and manager were very polite and friendly . I would Recommend to others

I'll definitely never come here again. The meat and chicken was over cooked to the point where I couldn't cut the meat and the food had no taste to it. We paid $258 for 6 people, for that kind of money you would think we would get good quality food... you would get better quality meat at your local kebab shop!
Michelle Goyen
I guess this restaurant is better on a quieter night, not on a race night. The dips were tasty but bread was tough , expected flat bread . The meat platter seemed like scraps , the end of the takings, fatty and without that melt in the mouth expectation.. $45 per head was not value enough when compared to other Greek restaurants we have enjoyed. Salad was lovely, Saganaki was brilliant but I don’t think we’ll be back .

Wonderful menu, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere.....a great place to enjoy a night with family & friends. A restaurant to return to again......highly recommended!

My favourite restaurant been here many times and every time I come it's amazing and the service is amazing too couldn't recommend them highly enough!!!
Chantal Harris
Loved it. Everything was beautiful. Special mention to the calamari that was to die for. Staff were attentive and happy. Really enjoyed it. Will be back.

Went here for dinner last Saturday night for my birthday with family & had been here once before as to why I chose this place...we all loved the food as it was amazing, soo yummy & left us feeling very full but still wanting more lol...The only let down as to why I didn't give 5 stars was the dessert which were soaked in too much syrup & had a weird texture inside otherwise we will be returning anyway in future for the food & great atmosphere! Highly recommended!
Kate Hawthorne
Amazing food and service! Food melted in mouth and the dessert... awesome!

Tonight we had our daughters confirmation function dinner and we could not fault the staff or food. The staff we attentive but not over bearing and were happy to help in any way. Food was fabulous and most of all a wonderful evening was had by all. Thank you again and see you soon.
Helen Singarella
Great food, great service and value for money. Not one spare table last night - a testament to a great restaurant.
Sofi Alexopoulos
Raw chicken not good! 20 people tonight not happy. Seafood was no good, Morton bay bugs and prawns over cooked dry. Loukoumathes were very doughy not fluffy. Everything looked and tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. The plates and glasses were dirty when we got there. Staff service good.
Cassie Iranios
This place has gone down hill. I was here 2 years ago for my birthday and the food and service was amazing. Since there I don't know what's happened. My table had to wait 45 minutes for the second part of our main which should have been served at the main time and then an hour for our dessert Disappointed truly
Desi Partsinidis
Great food great service must admit the best Greek food we have tried in Melbourne. It's a must.
Tracey Aloi
Great food... Great staff... Great service Highly recommend, won't disappoint,my favorite Greek restaurant
Susanne Tarczon
Divine food and excellent service! The evening we were there the restaurant was packed! Says a lot for an area where diners are spoilt for choice! Take the family you won't be disappointed!
Betty Kalemi
Great food although saganaki a bit thin and very oily but everything else on the banquet was seasoned well and delicious. Htipiti (tirokafteri) is to die for. Portions are big and filling and atmosphere and service wonderful.
Dimi Kefalianos
After having my sons christening at meltemi in 2014, we came back for our daughters christening this year. That speaks for itself. Everything was awesome, the food, the venue and the service. Thank you to Betty and Antony and everyone at meltemi for ensuring our day was perfect.

Do You like a good meal? This is the rigth place, and people are lovely.
Selina Toatoa
Food was on point. Customer service was fantastic, cant wait to go back.
Yiannis Lydia
Fantastic customer service, proper Greek food with great portions. Felt like I was at a Greek tavern back in Greece. Will definitely back. Thank you Meltemi.
Chris
Excellent efficient service and delicious food. The calamari was tender, and the amount of food was good. Gave us free desert after our meal. We purchased extra alcohol,. A wine size bottle of Greek retsina was only $14. Its also byo. I'm a local, first time here, and will be coming back soon again for dinner.
Tim
Really over priced. We ordered chicken souvlaki and mousaka. The chicken was partly undercooked. The mousaka taste was really bland too. I don't think those food worth almost $30

The food was ok, but at close to $30 for lamb gyros, I expected better. It’s very basic (you can see photos from other reviewers), which is fine but married up to a near $30 price tag just doesn’t add up.
Cathy
We thought it would be a great experience as its rated 3.8/5. we could not be more wrong. It is literally the worst greek restaurant we have tried. Meat lacks flavour, pita bread is pretty much supermarket bread wrap cut into pieces and warmed up. The greek salad container is half filled with lettuce at the bottom. There is no response after saying thank you to the staff every time either. We wont be going back again
Megan Lesar
Food was average. Not horrible but expected better for the location. Decent serves though which is good for big eaters. It was very unorganised, 2 starters came out after the mains and kids meal came second last instead of first.

Meltemis used to be one of my favourite greek restaurants in this area. They used to have amazing calamari with beautiful lemon potatoes and a greek salad. I ordered the calamari last night and was so disappointed; it was so tough and chewy. The tartare sauce was straight out of a jar (used to be home made), the salad was literally sliced iceberg lettuce with a couple of chunks of tomato and cucumber, and no sign of those amazing potatoes - they have been taken off the menu completely. The only positive was the service. Unfortunately I won't be back.

I never post reviews but felt the need today. This was our third visit here last night for dinner. We love Greek food and thought instead of other options we’d try Meltemi again. Unfortunately the service wasn’t up to scratch - weren’t asked for our drink orders and had to call the waitress over to take our orders. The food was very bland. Both the chips and the calamari lacked any seasoning so we had to request salt (which also wasn’t on the table). This restaurant isn’t necessarily cheap and given all the fantastic options in the area I was really disappointed.
Elizabeth Navarro
Authentic and delicious, with such a variety to choose from. Highly recommend seafood and the lamb in broth. Restaurant is family oriented and friendly.
Stephanie Jade
A beautiful Greek tavern that has a homely warm ambience and fantastic Greek food! I loved the chicken souvlaki, the chicken was moist and flavoursome. The Lokoumades were drenched in honey and came out nice and hot. I would recommend this place 100% 👌🏻

Best Greek food on this side of the bolte bridge. You can't go wrong with their fried white bait, dips and bread, and gyros. Service is always 5 stars and food comes out quickly. Probably best to book on weekends - everyone is catching on!
Kat
Stopped in for a late lunch here today... they had a function on and are not normally open for lunch. <br/>Staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was average and overpriced. I wonder what it's like on a normal day although it shouldn't really matter. Will stick with my faves. Sorry.
Emma
DINNER<br/><br/>Great place, love everything about it. Always have great food, massive selections, big servings. This place is going to do so well over the years to come. And I will be there eating all the food joyfully :)
Tom Seaby
The food is good and tasty, big portions but quality lacks a bit (pretty oily, not overly fresh). Service is really good and there is a good variety on the menu. Desserts don't look great at all but maybe I'm just not one for Greek dessert. Bit on the pricier side.
Gdkf
I think I was expecting amazing food due to the higher rating for Meltemi Greek Tavern. All I got was... 'eh' Whilst the meat was nice...it was nothing spectacular and far from the best Greek food I have tasted. Also, the lettuce and tomato in the salad was old. Disappointing. On the positive, the tzatziki dip was the winner of the dish. Overall not worth the exuberant prices they charge!! Furthermore, the decor felt a bit dated.

So 3 boys went for a meal. Sat down; given no menus. Too many new staff on for a Saturday night. <br/><br/>Wanted to share some dishes; waiter recommended a couple of entrée with a meat platter grabed some saganaki with potatoes and calamari and meat platter to share.<br/><br/>Serving sizes are small and prices and quite high - the calamari was quiet fresh; although the meat was very fatty, especially the lamb; the taste of the meat was good. Could have ordered more food, but will go spend the rest elsewhere <br/><br/>At least the decore was nice.
Bec C
We had the $45 banquet and there was more than enough food. We had about 1/4 of the food remaining at the end.<br/>The dips were good and came with hot bread which is a great start in my opinion. If you get the hot bread right then it'll most likely be a good meal.<br/>The chicken and lamb skewers were great, gyros also good and the Greek salad was nice (some of the best fetta I've had).<br/>The staff were very friendly and the service was spot on.<br/>The only thing lacking in my opinion was a bit of atmosphere.
Susanna
Very average<br/>Had the $45 banquet. Was adequate, but only just. We left feeling like a souvlaki would have been a quarter the price and just as nice.<br/>Dips had a skin. Obviously played ahead of time or else left uncovered. Calamari only tasted of fried coating. Mixture of overdone and just right.<br/>Meat was okay but nothing special.<br/>Skipped dessert. Expected an aftertaste of oil. Bad latte and a watery Greek coffee. How can a Greek restaurant not get Greek coffee right?<br/>Will not be back. Wish we went elsewhere.
Karen
Exceptionally busy night when we went. Other than a hiccup with booking, which was dealt with promptly, the food was great and the service excellent. Reasonably priced.<br/>Will definately go again but maybe just not on Cox Plate race day.<br/>

I put in a takeaway order for 2 gyros, a couple of sides, and asked for recommendations on what else to get...  I got told "bread". When I picked up the order, I had $75 worth of meat and bread. I called back to ask where the salad was and was told by some rude, smartarse staff that takeaway orders don't include the usual salad and sides with the gyros. Just 2 containers of fatty meat. Thanks for a ripoff terrible meal.
Nic
My wife and I went here on Saturday night and it was absolutely fantastic!! We ordered the Meltemi Banquet and we had trouble finishing it. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was excellent and it was value for money ( Meltemi Banquet $60.00 per person). I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, this place would easily be in the top five Greek restaurant's in Melbourne. đź‘Ś
A Girl With Curves
Lovely Greek tavern style restaurant in a nice part of Moonee Ponds. Staff were lovely and happy to help. I ordered the spanakorizo which was amazing! By no means traditional, it was spicy and had lots of feta through it. I recommend this restaurant for a casual meal.
Karen
We had dinner here a couple of nights ago and loved it. I had the mixed gyros which was very generous and oh so tasty while hubby had the meatballs and loved them! We shared a loukomades (Greek doughnuts) for dessert - they were gorgeous, light and melted in your mouth. The serving size was very generous, so one to share was more than enough! The staff were very friendly also. This place comes highly recommended by us!
Kate Murray-Fawcett
Have been to this restaurant a few times now and have always enjoyed it. My husband and I had the banquet and it didn't disappoint, certainly more than enough food. Staff were lovely and service was quick considering how busy they were. The only suggestion would be to have a few more wines available by the glass, not a lot of variety.
TravellingSoulAust
Enjoyed a lovely meal at this tavern.  It was better than l had expected. relaxed atmosphere and terrific service that was just right.  Would return any time.
Hazzag G
Nice small Greek tavern with tasty food and not shy on their servings. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food.  The only negative comment I have is that it does get too overcrowded and you are constantly having people bumping into you while you are eating. Will be happy to return.
Haley
Really enjoyed coming here for dinner. There were no frills, but great food and really good service. Felt taken care of throughout the night and it was so well priced for the quality of food. Will be back for sure.
Jakej
Went there for a birthday dinner with 15 people and service and food quality was outstanding. Dips were brought out straight after ordering and everyone's mains came out together and correct. Service was fantastic. Will definitely return in the near future.

Beautifully authentic greek tavern food and atmosphere. Ive been to meltemi 4 times so far, dinners and functions and has always reached my expectations. Their delicious food filled me up to the brink everytime and this place is highly recommended. Beautiful staff, food and atmosphere love love love 100%

Great food, lots of variety and great customer service - warmly greeted and staff very attentive. Will be coming back. Reasonable prices too! Highly recommended.
Champagne And Chips
If you’ve been playing along with my dining escapades for a while now, you have probably read about my Greek connection. When I was born my dad was in the midst of a serious snooker battle (spanning 15 years) with an old Greek fellow in the rural NSW town I grew up in. Every Friday they would battle it out over Greek coffees and kourambiethes. When I came along, to try to distract his opponent, my Mum and Dad asked the Venardos’ if they would like to be my godparents; or perhaps the honour was a bribe for Stavros to go easy on my dad. Either way, I grew up eating spanakopita (spinach and feta pie) even when I refused to eat any other kind of vegetable. I learnt many things from my Nona (godmother): that ice cream is healthy because it is full of calcium, that chips deep fried in olive oil and dusted with dried dill and salt are very healthy (duh, potato is a vegetable) and that sugar-coated almonds are best left in their tulle-wrapped bomboniere form displayed in the china cabinet forevermore. She also instilled in me a deep love of Greek food.

Although not advertised as doing takeaway, we called and asked if the would help out and do six souv's as we were struggling to find a reasonable souv in the area. Well they did and with a smile too. This was the first time we've had food from here and the lamb souv were good but the chicken souv were a stand out by those that had them. They weren't greasy or overloaded with sauce and garlic (the vamps left the area a while ago!) and they didn't fall apart. They were simply great. We also had a serve of their chips, so large. Definitely worth a repeat visit to the restaurant.

Fantastic greek cuisine!  I have been to this tavern many times, and for different occasions and i have always left satisfied with every aspect. The food is mouth watering and the service has always been amazing. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The banquet meals have always been a favourite ( i had the athenian tonight ) as they really display what greek eating is all about... real hearty food, and a lot of it!!! Having the saganaki (fried cheese) and loukoumades (greek donuts) I feel like i'm in greece every time I eat there.  Meltemi is by far my favourite greek tavern in Melbourne!
Foodgasm
Incredibly overpriced for portion size and quality of the food. The meat was oily and rather warm than hot. For a $27 main I expected more than one and a half handfuls of meat! They put more meat in a kebab from a food truck!!<br/><br/>The table was dirty and stained when we arrived, I had to ask the waiter to clean it up as he didn't even notice there was a large oil spil in front of me. <br/><br/>Won't be coming here again.
Elaine Daher
Very expensive and extremely over rated prices for the food served and portions. I think we will stick to Oakleigh from now on. <br/>Service is average and Resterant out dated by 50 years. The Resterant was extremely stuffy and hot.<br/>Disappointing...!!! $250 and we left hungry
Tsam
Beautiful food. My husband and I eat at Meltemi at least once a week. The food is always fresh and it is very consistent. Love this place, I would recommend it to anybody who wants good Greek Food.
Kieran Barns-Jenkins
Tasty and reasonably priced. Offering slightly more laid back Greek Fair then across the road Meltemi is tasty and reasonably priced. On my most recent visit we had taramasalata, saganaki and grilled octopus to start - all excellent. For a main I had mixed gyros which was nice and my partner had flounder fillets which she thought were ok but I thought were very nice. A very nice place for a relaxed standard Greek fare.
Hthalassinos
Great service. 17.01.2015, great food and great service experienced tonight, especially from our charming and handsome waiter Keith. Would highly recommend to others.
Gourmerdiner
Amazing Greek food. This is my favorite greek restaurant in Melbourne. I always take friends and business associates to this Tavern. The food is always fresh, the service very friendly. I especially love the seafood platter. Its very tasty and it comes in very generous portions. Other items that i always order are the Saganaki and the Loukoumades!
Anfo_ninja
Awful. I have one word for this place, appalling. <br/>Service quite bad, drinks were no better, but the food was horrendous! My partner and I eat out quite often and I cannot believe we have paid over $100 for such a terrible evening.
Belinda-Mary BumbleBee
Catastrophe. Went here for New Year's Eve. I was thrilled to try a new Greek eatery because I always go to another on the same strip of road; I wanted to try something new! The food was woeful. Was expecting to be satiated as good Greek food accomplishes, yet was only provided a paltry serving of bread that did not seem to be fresh and store bought. I am a big devotee on quality dips, yet the dips tasted like the packaged dips like the one gets from a homebrand dip at the local supermarket. The meat was not well presented; seemed to be just thrown on a plate with a few lettuce leaves in the corner for good measure. The meat was dry and seemed to be from reheated. The 'skewers' were more like pseudo-skewers, with only 2 blocks of meat on the stick! Very disappointing; was expecting great food! Paid 50 dollars each for this food, which was probably only worth 15. Not worth it, for the time or price. Was not satisfied in any sense. Will not return! Only positive was the friendly staff and good coffee at the end.
Georgestoupas01
Nothing Beats Meltemi. Best place for proper greek dishes with the best staff. This place just makes me feel like im back in the motherland<br/>2 thumbs up
Deanricho_1999
Festivus - mouth watering. Absolutely fantastic!<br/>Had the middle priced buffet and every item on it was incredible<br/>Rolled out the door more than satisfied

Good food. Went here a couple of weeks ago for dinner and I am still thinking about the food. Delicious! Service was good and as the evening progressed and the place filled, the waiter did well to keep up, as there was only one of him and it appeared the man running the restaurant wasn't going to lend a helping hand. As far as price, it's not the cheapest place for a group of four, but I thought the pricing was reasonable for the mains. We also got a share plate of dips and bread which I personally think was a little bit overpriced, however, perhaps the dips were all home made? Not sure if that was the reasoning behind it. I would go back.
Sammy
The food is faultless! So delicious! Had the stuffed chicken & partner had the slow cooked lamb. Entrées were the dips, octopus and saganaki. Will definitely return
Maria
Have been here several times and never ever disappointed with the food..always fresh and prompt, always with a smile, great place!

10/10. I was worried when I read a few reviews... but went here last night for my birthday and it was fantastic! we were served quickly and werent left waiting very long at all for food. We had the set menu and it was soooo much food. well worth it!! fresh, hot and plentiful... they even gave us complimentary baked potatos and greek donuts! loved the food and the service!
All_You_Can_Eat
As a person who's favourite sentence is "all you can eat" - yes I'm a big eater I was weary reading previous rewiews about not enough food but I must say we ordered the Meltemi banquet (two of us) and we left food on the last plate we were that full. Look it is no Hellenic Republic and does not set out to be, it's a tavern but I did feel the price was about $10 dearer than what I would expect to pay for this quality.
Melbfoodie
Staff here are fantastic. Personable, attentive and friendly. Will come back just for them.

Greek Tragedy. Being of a Greek background I apologise to any non-Greek who dined at this restaurant thinking that they were getting an authentic Greek experience. In any Greek household you never leave the table hungry. Unfortunately at Meltemi, you do. The so called Banquets certainly do not live up to their names. Ordered a $55 pp banquet for 4 - there was only enough food for 3 and the biggest anathema was that we only received a small single basket of bread ( which by Greek hospitality was not even enough for 1 person). The icing on the cake was to be charged for extra bread even though we were not informed of this charge when we were asked if we wanted more bread. That aside, their waiting staff need a major overhaul in their sevice technique. We did not appreciate being served from behind, spilling drinks on us, sticking their thumbs in our plates as they served us. As for the food a souvlaki skewer does not consist of 2 cubes of meat trying to be passed off as a full skewer. The meat was extremley dry and most likley left over from the night before. On leaving the premises no staff members even bothered to acknowledge our leaving or thank us for our patronage. Having travelled all over Europe I have eaten at hundreds of restaurants and I have never been compelled to write a review. Overall this was not a Greek experience and should not be advertised as such.
Ruth
Work Dinner. Went to Meltemi's for dinner on Tuesday evening and had a fabulous experience. The food was absolutely beautiful, seafood cooked to perfection & the service was honestly second to none!! will definitely be back
Sophia
Been to nearly every greek restaurant in Melb. Meltemi has to be number 1!!!! Very good service and the waiters are hotties. Best food never leave with disappointments! Good atmosphere. Highly reccomended :)
Raelsbrysha
Too Expensive. I had been to this restaurant with my brother a few months ago and loved it-but I did not pay. I said to my daughter take me there for mothers day and that was then that I realised the prices were so not worth it. The quality of the food is nice-(the capsicum dip over salted and the dipping bread was dry) the dessert was average and should come with ice cream. So I will definitely not come back. If I am to pay $100 for 2 at a restaurant I expect that to include lots of alcohol.
LG
Not very impressed. We arrived at 7:30, ordered within 15 minutes but didn't get our mains until 9. Very long wait! The food was very average and very overpriced.
Billsy
Fantastic Greek food. Tony and Athina are fantastic hosts at Meltemi. We are regulars and they always look after us. really fresh seafood. The banquets provide variety will decent portions. Loukomatoes are always a great choice for desert. highly recommend
Cherry13
Rather enjoyed my dining here.Got the banquet the food was great aswell as the service was very fast and the waiter was attentive, would defiantly go back.
DrCK
Been to this eatery a few times now. The food is quite good and the service prompt. My only gripe is the price of the food. Expensive for taverna fanfare.
Chris
Great Greek. If you feel like a hearty Greek Feast this is definitely the place to visit. Dined here with friends on Saturday night and had a wonderful evening. <br/><br/>Within 5 minutes of ordering, our Saganaki was placed on our table sizzling and no more than 7-10 minutes later our mains were all placed down in front of us. Very impressed with the prompt service, no body was left without their meal, everything came out quickly, it was fantastic. The portions are huge, highly recommend the mixed chicken and lamb gyros- delicious and comes with everything you want in a Greek meal. My only criticism with the gyros is that there isn't enough tzatziki (comes in a tiny tub).<br/><br/>We forgot to present our entertainment card upon requesting the bill, and when we told the waitress she re-printed our bill, no questions asked and was very friendly...I half expected them to be annoyed but it wasn't an issue at all. <br/><br/>The only downside with the service was that there was far too many staff rostered on that a lot of them were standing around staring at the diners which I found to be a little uncomfortable.<br/><br/>Other than that- great!
Dimsimmy
Not happy- entertainment book card does not apply to the specials menu.. Only 'normal' menu. Mind you the specials menu made not mention of this. Meat was dry too. *thumbs down
Jim
Expensive - went there for a birthday party and banquet for two ends up being for four yet still charged $50 per head. To top it all off the clumsy waiter spilled oil from the octopus plates all over me and didn't even apologise, never going back, much better Greek restaurants throughout Melbourne.
Rebecca
Really good quality food and a friendly, attentive staff. We had the banquet and it was delicious, but there was so much food that we were full after the entree. Ambiance could do with a makeover - this is definitely not somewhere you would go on a date. Great for large groups or catching up with friends.
Glenda C
Fantastic meal fantastic service. Went with a group of five and enjoyed delicious scallops and fetta saganaki. Main meals of slow cooked lamb, saganaki prawns, calamari , dory and mixed gyros. Food was fantastic and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Elia
Really confusing !!!! We or.... Really confusing !!!!<br/>We ordered the meltemi banquet for six, what we recieved was a banquet for 4. After questioning the waiter regarding the quantity he returned to inform us that a amount of food served in a standard banquet for 2 is the same amount for 3. We recieved 2 saganaki<br/> for 6,we recieved 2 plates of octopus the equivalent of 1cup for 6,we recieved 4 chicken and lamb skewers for 6,we recieved 4 bread rolls for 6,so in a nut she'll order a banquet for 4and save yourself $100 dollars. Really poor form much better Greek restaurants in Melbourne won't go again think twice if I were you
Nathan Taffard
Amazing. Fantasically amazing. Brilliant service and amazing food. V highly recommended. Not often am i surprised by a new find but this place is sure to wow.

Great Food. Loved the dips with the warm fresh bread! So delicious!
Lexey
Great food, great service. A hot night in January 2013, but George the friendly waiter kept his cool and gave us great service. Seven of us dined - we chose the second banquet and the food was fresh, tasty and kept coming. I'd go back, and I thank Betty and Anthony, the owners, and Boris - our other waiter, for a lovely night.
Iceman
Meltemi is your typical cliche Greek restaurant, with the obligatory indoor Taverna look and slightly grumpy host, but despite this, the overall experience is pleasantl and worthwhile. The prices are a little on the high side, but the quality is also high.
Jess88
Yuck! Burnt my tongue on oysters, the oysters killpatrick were covered in BBQ sauce! Very strange and they were boiling hot! Very odd will not go back just very tacky food!
Glenn
Authentic Greek cuisine, always good with a pleasant atmosphere... These Greeks do an awesome BBQ platter of meats and seafood.... Love it<br/>Will be back here again

This places amazing. So many tastes and textures with the most brilliant friendly service. Totally returning for round two!

Very nice food. We had a great time with the food at Meltimi, everything I had was spot on for taste, a real enjoyment.<br/>The NOISE was insane near the end of the evening, but that's the Greeks for you I s'pose!<br/>All in all, a nice dining experience, prices were a little on the higher side of my comfort level, but you get great food!<br/>I'd definitely return (I'd make it an early start/finish however!)

Great dips. My friend and I had the $25 banquet and enjoyed everything. The dips were great as was the calamari and greek sausages. There was heaps to eat and we had a lovely meal. Would go again.

Best Greek!. Was feeling extra hungry so we ordered the meltemi banquet... Could not stop eating there was so much quality food on the table. You get what you pay for, the service was excellent. Walked out with a smile on my face and was happy to pay the bill with no regrets

Delicious dips, fresh and tasty calamari, tender souvlaki meat. Fast and friendly service and good value for money.

Love this place!. Had dinner here (again) last night. Fabulous food and service. The seafood is just the best around. Had the seafood platter, and each item was superb - chargrilled but still moist bugs, tender calamari, fresh-tasting grilled prawns and the john dory fillets are superb. (Had john dory at Taxi Dining Room a few weeks back and it was very, very good. But the grilled dory here is even better. And, believe me, there is quite a price difference.)<br/><br/><br/>-----29 Jul, 2012-----<br/><br/>Always excellent. Having been to Meltemi's nearly a dozen times over the past three years, I was surprised at the difference of opinion on Urbanspoon. So my wife and I attended again last night.<br/>Well, things were as they have been for each and every one of our previous visits. The food was excellent - the grilled seafood in particular was as good as, if not better than, many higher priced venues. And the service was attentive, courteous and professional.<br/>To those who have commented adversely about the prices, I simply say - you obviously do not eat out a lot! The value for the quality of food served is exceptional. (For example, last night we had the 'Santorini' banquet - a number of entrees, a main seafood platter of oysters grilled fish, scallops, calamari, mussels, prawns and four (unusually) large bug tails, greek salad, dessert and coffee - for $55 a head. By way of comparison, we recently had a seafood platter at another, more well known venue, which was of comparable quality and quantity, but was exactly TWICE this price!)<br/>My wife and I eat out on average a bit more than once a week, and dine at venues across the spectrum. In our opinion, Meltemi is unbeatable for bistro style dining.<br/>(And no, I have no affiliation with Meltemi at all!)

Fantastic! Great food, excellent service! An amazing dining experience. The Dips are addictive and the seafood so fresh.

Very VERY Disappointed !. Even after reading the bad reviews, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and see for ourselves, as there good reviews as well. Where do I begin... firstly the indifferent service (basically our food was delivered and taken away) secondly the food was incredibly lack-lustre for greek cuisine (and i should know, i'm greek) and incredibly miserly for greek cuisine as well. I and 3 others ordered the lamb souvlaki which was to come with salad, potatoes pita and tsasiki dip. I, and 3 others got 4 small skewers with 2 pieces of inedibly salty lamb on each, some very ordinary coleslaw, a few small triangles of pita and a little bowl of dip...and wait for it... 1 potato wedge !!! laughable.... There were 10 of us and each meal was just as unappetising... and to add insult to injury are the prices. This restaurant in a nutshell OVERPRICED CRAP FOOD...I wish I had taken note of the bad reviews... Just Don't Do It !

KRUO - Greek word for cold. Arrived here on a cold Melbourne night, and inside the restaurant itself if was just as cold. I had to keep my jacket on for most of the evening until the wine we ordered started warming us up. Got the set menu, which is comparatively priced to most Greek restaurants in Melbourne ($5 overpriced). The starters were fairly standard nothing really stood out. The giros (meat) was served cold. Had to tell the waitress to heat it up and even then came out warm the second time. The highlight of the night was probably the desert. The loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) were worth waiting for. Overall not a bad experience but definitely wont be going again as there are much better Greek places in Melbourne.

Fresh excellent seafooid, great service and friendly atmosphere. Seafood souvlaki is to die for

Needs a revamp. Been going here for years and sorry to say I think its gone downhill. The meat of late has much more fat on it and was a bit dried out. Was a favourite but probably won't bother again.

Highly recommended!. Since moving from Collingwood to Ascot Vale, i never thought i would come across anything close to Jims Greek Tavern... Meltemi has certainly hit the mark. As a regular diner for the past 3 years, i have never been disappointed... Staff and owners are always very friendly and accommodating. It's sometimes a little loud, however that is expected as it is always so busy. As for the food... Exceptional!!! Always fresh and cooked to perfection. Best Greek restaurant on this side of town by far!

Very Disappointing!. I booked at Meltemi early last year and did enjoy every aspect of the greek dining experience. However, after dining here last night I will never come back AGAIN. Where do I begin. My friends and I ordered the banquete($50 pp). As soon as I placed the order I instructed the waiter to put the banquete on hold for 10 minutes while I run out and grab my phone from the car, but upon returning the entree was sitting on the table. Apart from the unprofressional factor, the food had no flavour whatsoever. Dips tasted stale, bread was not soft, saganaki was cold and there was no char grilled OCTOPUS? We then recieved our seafood and meat platter. Oysters were warm (should serve with ice to keep chill) and muscles were very bland. The meat platter consisted of lamp chops, giros, and chicken breast. We felt like salt was the main and only spice used, all very dry with no flavour or juices. We also had to request our greek salad because they forgot. Meltemi has done a complete 180 and will never return even if you paid me. <br/><br/>If you are looking for a authentic greek cuisine, please look elsewhere.<br/><br/>-No Flavour In the food<br/>-Very salty<br/>-OverPriced<br/>-no atmosphere<br/>-unprofressional

Not a fan. A little overpriced for the quality/quantity of the food, which tasted OK, but not the best. Probably won't go back here.

Excellent. Great service, good quality food. Waiters were friendly, helpful and generous portion sizes, we went on a Sunday night just before 7. By 7:30 the place had fillled, so a reservation may be helpful for busier times.<br/><br/>A place we'll definitely return!

Sorry to say - because i dislike slagging off restaurants. But this is over priced. Nice food but very overpriced.
Stelyios
Expensive and pathetic. Firstly it is very overpriced, 6 people set us aside $330, with the amount of food we ate equating to around enough for about 3-4. The waiter could not speak English and only Greek, the coffee tasted like water (frappe). The salad barely contained any tomato or Feta cheese. Besides that we had a little kid running around the waiter (must have been owner's son), doing table service as well which is extremely unprofessional. Overpriced, not enough food, poor atmosphere.

Great food. But $7to open every screw top bottle is too expensive. Will find better value Greek food in future

Great food. Service great. Table presentation a bit cheap. Lovely atmosphere and pretty good value.

Awesome. Ate here last night and found the whole experience awesome. We had the Meltemi banquet and the food was amazing and plentiful.......this was all topped off by the fantastic service from our waiter who was always on hand to fill our water and ensure everything was OK without being pushy and always with a smile.<br/><br/>We used the entertainment card and had no issues with service or food quality or servings.<br/><br/>Would definitely recommend this place to family/friends and will certainly be going back again!

Was ok.... Went there for the first time tonight. My husband & I had the Anthemian banquet the amount of food was great, dips were average bread wasnt good at all it was to light & fluffy - I'm use to have sour dough or pita style bread, saganaki rather salty but good, mixed grill was great salad lacked flavor & a little oily, olives weren't pitted, dessert was yummy. <br/><br/>Service to begin with was rather good but went downhill rather slow in picking up plates and the timings of the next meal. We had our tea and coffee first the desert 10 minutes later.

Good food but not the best value. We went there only because we had an entertainment card, otherwise the prices would have been prohibative. The food itself was good - starters we had dips and bread which were delicious. My partner ordered an open seafood gyros/kebab which was filled with fresh seafood and fresh salad and looked great. I ordered Kota Gemisti (chicken breast fillet stuffed with spinach & fetta, topped<br/>with garlic, white wine and cream sauce) served with potatoes. At $27 I would have hoped for some steamed vegetables or a small side salad for that price! We did not stay for dessert given the prices. Overall, would recommend for a special occasion.

Like this resturant but I don't understand why their takeaway lamb is so fatty & hard in the soulvas yet when u eat in it is beautiful. Confused

Great night out. Had a booking for restaurant over the road and they double booked. Trotted over road to Meltemi and was greeted with an immediate table and immediate service. Gorgeous reassuring waitress and lovely hunk of a waiter made our night. Good service, kind, attentive and fun. Helpful and continual topping up of water et al. Highly recommended for a relaxed, affordable and fun time with calamari to die for. Delicious seafood platter and the meat platter was overwhelmingly tasty. Good advertisement for Melbourne dining and Moonee Ponds in particular. From a visitor from Mid North Coast NSW.

Thumbs Up!. Had the greek banquet which was really amazing choices and for the most part the service was great. There was a stuff up at the end with not receiving a course but we ending up leaving before they could correct it and they adjusted the bill accordingly which was much appreciated. Had a great Greek experience and would happily return.
