Review Huyen Linh 2 - Moonee Ponds

Guru Gun
The food was so nice that I forgot to take photos and by the time when I tried to take photo and it was only the sweet corn soup left. The soup was nice and the chicken has its own flavour too. I love the special spring roll they make - I always call it boss’ special. The soup for the pho is also good. When I dine in I always order the quails but it was not on the Uber eats menu this time when I order. A nice traditional Vietnamese restaurant in Moonee Ponds. I like it.

Friendly staff, great pho. Spring rolls are a hit with the kids. Love the authentic Viet iced coffee.

This is my first time trying this Vietnamese restaurant, I reali love the broth of pho , which is the best I try in Mel . Highly recommend it .

Pleasant place with nice surrounds and portraits inside . The food was nice and freshly cooked. The owner is wonderful and the staff are attentive

Ordered the beef pho and rice paper rolls as I had to meet the $25 minimum for eftpos (bit high for my liking). The waiter was polite, well mannered and efficient. The rice paper rolls were the smallest I'd seen but had really good flavour. Unfortunately the dipping sauce was really lacking not only in flavour but consistency as it was slightly runny. The pho arrived and the broth was really tasty with great depth of flavour (didn't leave you thirsty) and left you wanting more. The meat was few and far between but what was there was tender and tasty. The noodles were perfect soft, and chewy and the meal was presented well. Unfortunately the size of the bowl was tiny, especially for the price and the sauces come in a bowl all mixed together and are not there for you to help yourself on the table. As I love the broth I will be back, but be aware you will need to order a couple of things if you want to leave full and or to pay by card.

This place has amazing vietnamese food. I've been here twice now and will continue coming back. For my first visit I had the beef pho which ticked all the boxes for me. The ingredients tasted very fresh and the soup was very balanced. It would stand up against restaurants that specialise on pho (even better than quite a few of them). For my second visit, I had the Quail and special fried rice. The Quail was cooked to perfection and had amazing flavours. The fried rice was very well seasoned and had a good combination of flavours and ingredients. It was also not oily like some other Vietnamese restaurants make it which was really good. I like a little spice, so mixed in some of their chilli oil which made taste even better Keep up the good work :)

Was craving pho today and the bowl I had here was excellent, will definitely be back

The food was delicious and fresh and tasted like it was home-made with love. The flavors were different but well-blended. I was really impressed! The lady boss was so friendly and her husband is the chef. She says they don’t use any MSG at all, all home-cooked style. I will definitely be back again to try the other dishes on her menu!

Have been getting their takeaway - local gem, lovely bun with plenty of vegetables and herbs, and the veggie rice paper rolls always packed with vegetables and wrapped fresh every time.

It was well balance yummy!!!!
the waiter was very nice she showed us the best food on the
Menu.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my partner because she felt like phó. I wasn't eating. Nor did I taste her dish. Apparently the phó was ok.

There was only one other person in the restaurant but they gave us a hard time for ordering one dish under the value of $15.

I understand they're trying to support their family, but a better strategy would be to treat customers with respect. There would have been many times where we'd come back and order a lot more food and drinks but their attitude means we're not going to.

I don't understand why a business would berate customers for not spending enough when at times we were the only people on the restaurant. Be thankful for our business and we would have come back in future.
NomNomChippie
What kind of Vietnamese restaurants have a minimum money to spend per person? I have been to so many good Vietnamese places way better than this place and their pho is cheaper than here and NEVER set a minimum price. I even paid cash here but the owner said I have to spend more than $15! Pho is not even $15. I went there cause I had a handover so I needed a soup but my partner didn't want to have any as we had ingredients to cook at home. He just wanted to keep my company. She was not happy at all when he was not ordering anything. I understand if it was busy but there was no one in the restaurant. The way she spoke to us was pretty rude. Clearly she has no idea about how to do business or customer service. We would have gone back if she was not rude like that. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants. I don't recommend anyone to go here unless you want to order two dish although you don't want to.

Very yummy soup will come back soon

We ordered pho and unfortunately there wasn’t anything good about it. They were stingy with herbs, I think there were 4 pieces of meat, not much noodles and broth was too salty.
Kim
Ordered from this restaurant on uber eats and was very disappointed, there was hardly any meat in any of the dishes. Beef pho had about 4 tiny slices and they forgot to add any beef balls altogether. prawn spring rolls were so small and flat, it was like eating fried wrappers. grilled pork on vermicelli - the pork chop was butterflied, it was so thin which made it dry out during the cooking process. Wontons were all skin, barely a teaspoon sized meat filling inside. All dishes had about half the amount of meat that it would normally have.
Sakura Moon
Polite staff always but average tasting food~ the grilled chicken pho a bit too oily for my liking. But one of the better Vietnamese places on Puckle
Ben
Good pho and nice people. You can get it takeaway and they'll give it to you hot enough to get home and eat. Haven't tried anything else on their menu.
Sepa
Nice enough spot with friendly service though the Vietnamese dishes were ordinary and limited. This is more a Chinese restaurant. The menu has so-so pho and a few Viet noodle/rice dishes, but large-serve Cantonese dishes appealing to groups dominate, and these tend to be the best dishes, based on our limited sampling of the menu. Overall a decent local but for better, cheaper and more varied Vietnamese food head over to Footscray.
Lisarosss35
The foods are very nice as alway, last time I had beautiful seafood spring roll and beef sizzling, the food come out quick, staffs are friendly, hight recommended for Vietnam food. We will come back.
In my opinion, the dinner service I had booked for my mother's birthday ended up being quite poor. The service was slow and the meals seemed rushed and lacked a packing punch. There is not much reason for us to come back and we wish these problems are corrected for the good of the business.
TheyCallHimX
Cosy Vietnamese place on Puckle. Was a quite night when we walked in and we were seated quickly.

Water was provided but not the traditional tea most Vietnamese places serve while you wait. Unless you asked. Also have to ask for chop sticks.

Rice paper rolls were nice and came out quick. Chicken was a little chewy but tasty overall.

Pho took a while to come out which was surprising cause that usually comes out fairly quick. But it did have a nice broth and meat was tender. Just wish there was more meat.
The sauces come out in small servings. No bottles on the table here. But you can ask for more sauce.

Overall a nice dining experience.

This restaurant has a very high standard of service and excellent tasty and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. We tried 4 different dishes and didn't know which was yummier! It is also very clean

So its this cold chilly evening when me and my partner decide to stop by this place and have some hot soup...as we place our order the waiter sighs and says a minimum of 15$ per person...why would i spend 30$ if i dont have the appetite for it..extremely rude staff,no wonder the place is normally empty. Very poor customer service
Freudian Fleur
Positive: decor and atmosphere and opening hours good. Food tasted ok/well enough.

Cons: serving sizes/meat content in dishes surprisingly small for the high price. I ordered beef pho which had barely any meat so had to pay for extra. Also when speaking to the serving staff make sure you repeat and confirm what you order. My husband ordered 2 dishes for takeaway but they gave and charged us for 3 and argued that we had ordered it.
Not wanting to cause a scene, we took it.

Summary: poor service and overpriced food means we won't be back. Down the same road there are other restaurants which we prefer albeit with not as good opening hours.

Very rude staff. Went on Sunday evening still during the new year holidays. It was really quiet there were 2 other tables occupied. When the male waiter came to give us our food he whispered to me to keep my voice down to not distract other customers. I've never had that happened to me in a restaurant. My friend is a psychologist and said that's a very strange remark to make especially she did not see any other customers looking our way if I was so loud. Seemed rather unnecessary. The food was OK nothing special. Since we're so close to footscray there are plenty better places at better prices.

Yay - Moonee Ponds has a great Vietnamese Restaurant.

Amazing fresh uncomplicated food. Might have actually been the nicest tofu I have ever had! Quick, personal service & even licenced.

Great to have this in Moonee Ponds! Convenient easy parking, good prices, close to train.

My pho was actually fairly good, however when my partner asked to change the chicken dish that was so salty that it was in eatable, the woman serving us was unhelpful and appeared angry. Eventually after explaining that we would like to change it, she still wanted to charge us. That was never going to happen and finally got the dish changed. No more service to be seen. Not worth the money, many superior places around.

another late review. hubby and i went late last year and througly enjoyed ourselves. food was lovely well presented and not expensive as we thought

Ruby must have had a night off when we visited as the customer service was non existent. Soft drinks out of a big bottle were Woolies home brand and customers charged a premium. We planned to make this our new vietnamese restaurant in Moonee Ponds however the experience was very disappointing.

Have been going there 10 years for their Grilled Chicken on Rice. Pretty sure it's fried not grilled tastes amazing - recommend getting it with fried not steamed rice for the extra $1.

It is a worst Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne!! I don't want to come back there anymore because of owner. She was impolite. Moreover, I was waited in a long time to get a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup. Its taste was so bad. Every foods are so expensive. Don't like it!
Melike Kasap
Best food in town!
Ruby and the staff are always running around to deliver exceptional service! The food? DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The crispy prawn is my favourite!
Havachatkiwi
Very clean restaurant with nice decors. Menu pricing is a little on the higher side. The service and food was good and the food was delivered to the table piping hot. If I had one suggestion it would be that rice served for 1 is bought out also in a container with a lit. The bowl of rice I was served upside down on a plate was hot at first but as I ate my meal cooled down and became hard and all stuck together so it wasn't as enjoyable as when I had first started it with my meal.
Marcel S.
OK suburban Vietnamese restaurant. If you fancy some Vietnamese and don't want to drive to footscray or Victoria street this is a good option.

I have only had the take away so I can not comment on a dining in experience. We friend a couple of dishes and the pho was quite nice. Other dishes ok too.
Blake Anderson
Very disappointed.
Overpriced, was happy to pay though with the expectation of good quality food.
All meals completely bland and tasteless.
Further, staff seemed disinterested.
No thanks.

Great value and great food. Very clean, fresh and tasty.

Highly recommend

Caveat emptor. First off ,I dont think you should call a restaurant vietnamese ,if it doesn't supply chopsticks ,soy sauce or chili sauce on the table already,& you actually have to ask for them.
incredibly they had salt & pepper shakers instead.
I normally go to Viet Spice in Glenroy post office place for a traditional viet soup on these cold days, unfortunately I was in moonee ponds to day just after 3 pm.
I ordered the soup with rice noodles@ $9 on the menu.
I got soup in a small bowl with old egg noodles which still retained the shape of the packet & they were tough!
OK,we all have bad days.
I was charged $11,with a smirk , because it was after 3 pm.
I paid ,but anyone going there after reading this review deserves whatever they get .
20 years ago it was good restaurant, but the last time I was there,3 years ago, the same old lady as today was rude & condescending, which we put down to her being possibly heavily pregnant.
I have never written an unfavourable review for any restaurant before, but its not the extra $2, because you never know what someones financial position is ,but the old ,tough egg noodles when you ordered rice noodles, is totally unforgiveable behaviour from a business relying on continuing public patronage.
Mark
It's just way to expensive for the size of the serves ~~$19 for veg rice as an example !!!
Fiona.english
Shocker. We went to this restaurant on a Sunday night we were the only customers. Very small serves of meat - our meals were beefed up with lots of bean shoots, lettuce and herbs. Very dissapointed in this restaurant as they charged quite a bit for their meals. Different menu and more expensive with less food will never go back.
Disappointed.
Chompandslurp
My chilli beef with lemongrass and rice vermicelli $10 was hot and delicious that had a good balance of spice and heat. Sometimes I feel that the heat can take over and you can’t taste the flavour because your mouth is being tortured by lava disguised as food.
Katherine Chiu
The service was a little too fast. In fact when the service is too fast, like today, I got the impression that they rushed their meals, which they did.
Bydea
Shame. Renovated and looks great!! Although I miss the cutlery, tissues & sauces very much!
Prices have increased
Taste of food and portions have decreased
I miss the free tea the most - it cost me $4.50 for a flask of recycled hot water!
Brendan
Older woman there was argumentative and rude when we tried to fix the order after the wrong one came out. Also, food is expensive for what you get.

Best restaurant in Melbourne!. I can't speak highly enough of Huyen Linh 2! This restaurant goes far beyond any i have seen. It's in an absolute perfect location,(Puckle street, Main Street of Moonee Ponds). The restaurant comprises of a lovely and warm set up, and you are always made to feel welcome by the staff greeting you as you walk through the door. Whether your after a lovely night dining in or take away, Huyen Linh provides both at the very best level. Not to mention the atmosphere is second to none. There is a reason why each time i go into the restaurant it is packed and that is because the service is out of this world and the rapport the staff build with the customers is sublime! And i haven't even gotten to the food yet. I cant get enough of the food! The menu is so deep, it has pretty much everything you can think of on it! And the food is so so so fresh! And not to mention ridiculously tasty! You haven't tried rice paper rolls until you try the ones from here... Trust me! I haven't ever tasted nicer or cleaner asian food in my life! 12/10

I have ordered many different dishes for delivery and I can not speak highly enough of the delicious food. Pho, pork chop & egg, spring rolls, numerous rice and noodle dishes, beef with garlic & pepper. Really lovely staff and great chilli oil!

Not a quick & dirty Vietnamese restaurant. Huyen Linh 2 is ambient, serve nice food and having efficient staff.

It's definitely a Vietnamese restaurant you will feel comfortable having a slow dinner in and having a chat. It's different from the typical quick eat in places which Vietnamese places are usually like.

The food here is nice but not as great as other Vietnamese restaurants in terms of serving size and taste. It's not bad.

I guess it depends what you're looking for. Not a place for a delicious quick eat, but one of those nice places for a leisurely dinner over a nice meal.

First time here but definitely not the last! Food great and staff lovely. We'll be back soon!

Try filling the container for god sake.. One thing I love about this place is you don't get fat, thats because they don't give you enough food. large special fried rice = a full table spoon in the centre of a plastic takeaway container, now come on, Try Lychee house around the corner, now that is what I call value.

Every dish a delight!. We had a beautiful lunch here yesterday. There were 5 of us and every dish was a delight. Perfectly cooked, fresh, lovely flavours and nicely presented. Unlike many Vietnamese restaurants Huyen Linh 2 has a pleasant ambience, subtly decorated with classical music playing in the background. Excellent service as well.
We are very happy that we have such a gem in our own neighbourhood-no need to traipse over to Victoria St or Footscray for our Vietnamese 'fix'. This one beats them all!
Peanut
I love this place! Have been eating here for years. Banh Mi Pork or chicken is the best outside of Victoria St.

Over the years we have gone to either Footscray or Richmond to eat good Vietnamese food. Having recently moved into the area we decided to try this restaurant....I must admit, we weren't expecting too much but were happily surprised and now can't keep away from the place! Great food; their pho is delightful and the prices are reasonable. Staff are warm and friendly too. 10 out of 10!!! Now we don't have to traipse to those other suburbs to get a great "Vietnamese fix". Thanks!!!!

Yummiest food ever !! Came here for the first time last week and been back twice already !! Great quick service and very reasonable pricing :)

Great food that was fresh and tasted like authentic home made Thai.

Delicious! This is our local Vietnamese and we just keep coming back. The beef pho is one of my favourites, broth is so full of flavor. Also love the salt & pepper calamari and Vietnamese coleslaw they are always crunchy and fresh. Friendly and prompt service keeps us coming back again and again!

Pho shizzle. Tastiest bowl of soup ive had. They just give ya a bowl of some tasty broth and chuck a bunch of noodles and other stuff in. Its sick. Highly recommend this place to anyone lookin for a mean bowl of soup

Was OK I guess. Service was friendly, but waitress kept confusing the 4 of us & set table up & dishes with the wrongs person. Noodle soup was alright, nothing special but not too bad either.

The 2 ladies running it are always friendly. Nice Vietnamese meat loaf. Also great fried rice + chicken - loved the chilli sauce they use(and fragrant shallots topping)

Worth coming back. Just tried Huyen Linh2 last Sunday with the wife and my older son. Found the menu had a lot of Chinese style dishes, so we tried pick what would seem to be more Vietnamese. Started with Mixed Entree (very ordinary, esp battered chinese sausage), I had the Hot and Sour soup (which I really enjoyed and will have to have again). Huyen Linh 2 spring roll which was really good and worth the $12 for 4 rolls.
For main we had Crispy squid w salt and pepper (4/10), Lemon grass chicken (7/10) and the spicy beef (forgot the proper name but 9/10). Unfortunately we chose three mains which happen to be all deep fried, so we'll have to be a bit more mindful on our selection next time. Service was good and friendly and noticed that most customers were regulars. Despite the menu seeming to be a bit of Chinese we still enjoyed pretty much everything.
Huyen Linh 2 is worth trying and worth going back to.

Perfect!. Food is amazing with lovely service. Crispy salt and pepper squid and sliced beef pho is a definite. Our local Vietnamese place has closed but we'll be making this our new local... Loved it!

Had dinner here tonight and was pleased I did. The service could use some work, but the food is superb! Expect to pay around $25-30 ph with BYO wine ok at $2 pp. Highly recommended

One word - awesome!. With Vietnamese family, I've been lucky enough to eat some pretty good Vietnamese food over the last decade. Visiting Huyen Linh 2, I was amazed at how damn good the food was. Seriously awesome. So much taste, excellent - and quick! - service. Best of all, the price of dishes (even seafood) is cheap, but you get REALLY good quality food. Awesome in every way.
Vitaminbee
Fresh, quality Vietnamese food. At long last, we finally visited the well-known Huyen Linh 2 in Moonee Ponds and wished we had dined here sooner. The spring rolls were the nicest we've ever had (packed full of quality seafood ingredients, prawns, scallops... yum!), the salad was refreshing (beautiful dressing) and the beef dish (garlic and pepper) was perfectly tender. We will be back again very soon. Many thanks for the excellent hospitality.
Judy
Went there for dinner 21st Feb with friends. Ordered from the specials board. Service was prompt and friendly. As for the menu, food was ok, tasty but certainly not the best vietnamese I have had. Would I go back? Probably not as an organised event, but if I was in the area and wanted vietnamese I would. Out of 10 I give it a 7.
Jenny Goring
LUV LUV LUV. Love Huyen Linh. Nothing fancy, but great fresh Vietnamese food. I'm slowly working through the menu and have'nt come across anything I don't like so far. Family run business and so very personal !
Ajh000
All good, all the time. Regularly dine at Huyen Lihn 2, Very consistent, warm friendly service, well priced standard Vietnamese menu. Do yourself a favour and try the marinated chilli quail!!!
Overall, all meals are tasty and delicious.

We love eating here, the food is so delicious and cheap that its hard to go wrong! The food is served quickly and the staff always friendly and welcoming.
Kim
Been here twice & like the food. The staff are very friendly, unlike some VN restaurants. Without my asking, the owner told me she doesn't use MSG in the food. I hope that's true since I can't tell by the taste. The prices are very reasonable & great value for the portions. My kids love the pho and fried rice. We will be regulars here :)
Tim Patterson
I try and come down to this little gem every Friday night. The food is 10 out of 10 and the price is defiantly what brings me back each time. Their very friendly and appreciate the business! LOVE it!
Jess J
My usual. We eat here often enough that the waitress asked me why I was looking at the menu for so long, why don't I order what I usually get! lol Service is fast and friendly. Very homely. Meals are large and cheap, but very tasty.
Not really traditional, however great none the less.

Love my 'usual' rice noodle soup with seafood... ask for chilli and lemon on the side. Wonderful.
Jenjen
Thumbs Up!. Always great service, really cheap and the food is some of the best Vietnamese outside of Footscray!
SQUiD
A nod to the noodles!. Packed on a Thursday night... yes it was cramped and yes we had to squeeze past a table to get to our tiny one in the corner BUT well worth it... the style of the restaurant has character but here its the noodles that are the star of the show...

We had the combo spring rolls to start and the rice noodles with prawn and pork (soup style) and beef and beef ball pho... both were wonderful... the beef pho stock was well balanced with plenty of flavour and the stock of the other was light and tasty and not too oily... spring rolls were homemade, nothing exceptional but non-offensive nonetheless..

Service was quick and friendly.. only thing I could complain about was they forgot to bring us our tea.. by the time we thought about asking.. our meal was nearly over.. (probably because the noodles were so tasty it was one of those "don't talk, eating" moments)
Bean
2 thumbs up. This is a lovely little place, great rice vermicelli and pho. much friendlier than the average vietnamese restaurant- the service is always with a smile and the food is good too.
MelbourneMiss
Good quality Vietnamese food at a very reasonable price. This is not the place to go if you are seeking a fine-dining experience. But for fast, fresh Vietnamese food, minimal corkage for BYO, this place is great. The Pho is good and so are the pork spring rolls (you get 8 tiny little ones for one serve).

Always excellent. Never fails to satisfy! great food, excellent service.
