Review Sir Duke - Moonee Ponds

Valentina Angeloni
We had a nice lunch here! The gnocchi were so flavourful and the portion of calamari was so generous. Lovely staff and very good service 😊👍 Thank you 😊

Went on a Saturday for brunch and the place was full. Luckily we had a reservation. Chilli scramble was average but the pasta was yum. Bellini was not a conventional recipe but was delicious. Coffee can be improved. Toilets were not marked clearly and I think I used the men’s as a man emerged from the next stall while I was washing my hands. Wheelchair accessible but not sure about space inside as seating is set close.

Took advantage of the $15 Parma and it was very tasty with chips and coleslaw teamed up with a Two Birds Pale ale. I was warmly greeted by the waitress and sat myself down for a quiet dinner for one. It was quiet as it was a Tuesday night and warm inside. The background music was good up until towards the end of my meal as it was reaching closing time. The kitchen staff were playing their own music louder than I expected which clashed with the dining room. That's my only sore point. The place is clean and the staff are friendly and courteous.

Literally the most reliable all day eatery in Moonee Ponds. Great food & really lovely staff. If you’re feeling like some happy food definitely go for the Chock Chunk Cookie (see image). Also the Decaf coffee bean flavour is actually very good! 💜

It was a nice lunch with friendly staff. The salmon was great but Parma wasn't warm enough to serve. Overall, I recommend Sir Duke.

Wow!!! Even though it’s was busy at 1230, the customer service was brilliant! Met by a welcoming young waiter Sebastian, who was attentive throughout our lunch stay. The chilli scrambled eggs were delicious and when I asked if it could be served on the house made hash browns instead of bread - no problems!!! Great gluten free option!!! Coffee was delicious and even though it was busy and loud, we asked to be seated down the back on the comfy bench seating, again - no problems. I’ve been here before and usually have the calamari salad, but went for something different and was not disappointed! Highly recommend and cannot thank Sebastian enough for his welcoming friendly and professional approach to customers. Well worth the 40 minute drive!!!!

Food is delicious and service is pretty good, particularly considering how busy they get on weekends. They have some fantastic cocktail. The only reason I can't give this place five stars is because their pricing is on the high side as it is and they charge a weekend surcharge on top of it. I understand public holiday surcharges but charging extra for something that happens every single week?
Benjamin Giosis
Service was awesome and very friendly, but in our instance I think we were abit unlucky and got a cold meal. Not sure if I will be risking a repeat visit.

I would never recommend this place, I found a long black hair in my breakfast. I Asked for bacon as a side dish which never came out. The service was terrible. When I spoke with the manager regarding the hair in my meal she wasn't one bit apologetic, and to be honest I don't think she even cared.

Absolutely delicious and affordable food and great service. Our wagyu burgers & calamari were cooked to perfection, my son and nephews said it was the best parma & fries they have ever tasted. The girls could not get enough of the cocktails and little nieces fell in love with the fancy mini donuts. Highly recommended dining venue in Melbourne.

I had the best meal. The crispy salmon on black rice is delicious. And my coffee was perfect. Thanks guys for beautiful food and great service.

Beautiful venue , good food . Had the Cubano and burger with sweet potato fries. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

First visit and the place didn’t disappoint. The service was excellent, prompt and efficient but not pushy, as well as friendly and helpful.

The food arrived quite quickly and was a decent serving and well cooked (scrambled eggs plus chorizo and avo) and the coffee was well made.

Definitely worth a Sunday brunch stop off.

Lovely cafe located in the heart of Moonee Ponds. They offer an extensive menu including cafe, alcohol, brunch and dinner! There are reasons to be here in different times of the day.

Came visit on a sunny day tried the fresh orange juice. Very refreshing and I enjoyed that a lot. Had the carrot and halloumi fritter, I reckon it was a bit overcooked and the portion size is too big for me. Apart from that I believe this is a great place for family and friends catch up!
Ariel Barrett
For a small glass of orange juice full of ice cost $7, very rip-off
Also surcharge of 10% over weekends
The amount we pay does not match up to the quantity and quality of the food

Nice place to have a relaxing brunch with a larger group. I ordered the "Benny Boy" which was delicious, though the saltiness got to me by the end of the meal.

The hollandaise sauce was well balanced, and the poached eggs perfectly cooked. Pulled pork was a little dry, but acceptable. The hash was crispy and a nice touch.

Service was excellent, kids enjoyed the atmosphere. Would visit again.

Returning to Sir Duke for more then a coffee this time. It is a modern upgrade aged cafe's/brunch on Puckle St in Moonee Ponds. Ordered eggs on toast and smashed falafel sandwitch on sourdough bread with OJ and soy cappuccino. It's a nice sitting Cafe if you are shopping in the vicinity. And Yaah they lost 'Duke' ;)

Went a couple weeks ago with friends and it was buzzing on a Saturday morning.
My friend and I shared the burrito bowl and the calimari dishes. The calamari was nice but the burrito bowl was a bit of a letdown unfortunately. Would probably still give them another shot :)

A really nice cafe, friendly staff and a great community atmosphere perfect for catching up with friends or family for a meal.
I always have a good experience here,
My go to is the basic scrambled eggs with a generous side of smoked salmon, never disappoints and the coffee is also consistently great!

Came to Sir Duke for family Sunday brunch after a place closer to home was full. I had heard good things about this place from friends and family, and luckily it didn't disappoint!
Despite the place being packed we were served by friendly staff upon entering the cafe. The accommodating service continued throughout our meal, and something I cannot fault.
The menu is massive! So many options for breakfast and lunch, and we dined at a time where we had both to choose from. The decadence of some of their milkshakes and smoothies also caught our eye (thinking of the creme brulee) but we decided to just order some food.
My mum and I both ordered a super bowl. I added grilled salmon to mine while she added grilled calamari. Each component of the dish perfectly married to make each bite light yet flavourful, so that upon finishing you felt energised rather than weighed down in a food coma. We each sampled each other's chosen protein. I ended up liking the calamari slightly better than the salmon, thought the latter was still cooked well. The grilled calamari, unlike calamari from most other restaurants, wasn't overly chewy, but tender with a mild flavour that complimented the rest of the bowl incredibly well. The salmon was succulent, soft and flavoursome, however I felt it didn't suit the dish as well as the calamari. Both bowls were a delight, with the pomegranate seeds popping in your mouth and the turmeric hommus having an almost mustard-y flavour.
Dad chose to have the morning recovery, but asked to swap out the milk bun for seeded sourdough, which the staff were happy to comply with. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
Overall we were pleasantly surprised by Sir Duke, and we would definitely return to sample more of their menu if we were in the area in need of a meal.

Bit pricey compared to everywhere else.. Paid $1.20 more for a coffee than anywhere else.. and the coffee is only okay. Food is delicious here though!!
Whalesfoodadventure
Service was really average. They had forgotten that i had also ordered a bowl of fries. Haloumi burger was good real tasty however the bun was the let down. Abit on the hard side
Eden K
Had the Aussie Dream, the O.G burger and a bowl of chips to share. Very disappointing and overpriced. Chips were enjoyable but that’s it, won’t be returning.

Spacious cafe with efficient staff & fast service. Couldn’t fault our meals, very tasty - we were very impressed. Coffee was great too.
Need to return to work our way through the menu!
A friend and I came here for lunch recently, a nice fit out with ok service from staff.

A good menu, we both ordered the calamari salad which was nice and tasty. The calamari cooked well, I loved the Asian greens and dressing. There was mention of soba noodles in the salad, however this was very minimal and I would of liked to have seen more in the dish.

As we walked out I noticed some cakes and donuts by the register, which looked delicious but they were uncovered. It was off putting to see these in the open air given it was a hot day and flies buzzing around. Also, wouldn't these dry out being out under the air conditioner? In any case, I think a covering of some sort should be used here.

Such slllooowww service
Been here multiple times just for drinks - coffee is fine but takes 20+ min ..every time!
Today we wanted lunch; we were seated and left without water for 40min before deciding to leave..they were very understaffed and staff seemed very flustered. Though menu looked pretty good probably wouldn’t rush back

The foods we ordered are mac and cheese croquette and mushroom risotto, it was so yummy and their staff are friendly. The place just right opposite the reject shop, probably the top brunch restaurant in this moonee pond area!
Im Here To Eat
Sir Duke is a modern upgrade to the more aged cafe's/brunch spots sitting on Puckle St in Moonee Ponds. I love the generous portion of nachoOoO's (add chilli beef) and the pretty bangin' chicken schnitzel parma. Coffee is good, competitively priced and heaps of space. Sir Duke is pretty much my go to when I'm around Puckle St.
TigerTreeEats
Had the fritters- they were fantastic. Well presented and fantastic flavour, I enjoyed eating the thinly sliced cucumber that had some dressing. Note I got my eggs scrambled but yes they should have been poached. The chai latte was a very small serving size.

Second time visiting Sir dukes & I love it! I purely went back for the creme brĂ»lĂ©e shake & the grilled bird burger. I would 100% drive to Moonee ponds just for the creme brĂ»lĂ©e shake. The vibe is nice and staff are friendly too. Although they may be a little understaff. Anyway, I would definitely recommend to check out sir dukes if you’re near by.
Auzzie66
The Thai Chicken Salad is to die for
I have tried it about 4 times now and am never disappointed! 👌
I would definitely recommend give it a try if you love Thai flavours
Food Dine Roll
This is now possibly my local gem. Sir Duke really live up to Melbourne Brunching.

Wide varieties of menu and drinks (even matcha latte) and beautiful decor with space enough outside for doggies.

Prices are reasonable for the size and flavor of dishes.

I have so far tried Chilli scarmble eggs (yummm), hotcakes/pancakes (was amazing. Not overly sweet. Very easy to eat) and halloumi fritters (also super yum. I added chorizo and it was filling me to dinner)

Love the place!
Fagito
Two eggs on toast should be easy enough for any cafe/restaurant however my order was overcooked eggs which were flat, dry and little black spots on them (sign of the pan not being cleaned properly)!! The other disappointment is the state of your toilets! Clean them up! Doesn’t look like you even check them throughout the day as they were appalling. If a restaurant doesn’t have the pride to keep their toilets clean then I wonder what is going on in the kitchen! The cashier asked how was everything to which I replied an unenthused not bad. I don’t even think she heard me, just a question she asks with no interest on the answer. Wasn’t impressed and most likely will not return. The two waitstaff we dealt with were lovely.

Would I return? Only for a late night meal or drink when wanting to stay local to Moonee Ponds.

Sir Duke is a spacious all-day restaurant/cafe on Puckle Street in Moonee Ponds. They offer a diverse menu ranging from brunch, sandwiches to burgers, desserts and even mains like a curry. There are even plenty of vegan and gluten free options available. The interior is on-trend and comfy. As it is spacious the restaurant is definitely pram/disabled friendly. All of these factors make it ideal for any occasion, catch up with friends, coffee dates with kids, a date or a quick coffee on Puckle Street in between shopping. They also take bookings and split bills too so great for large groups.

This review is for my third time visiting Sir Duke. My partner and I came on a Friday evening around 8pm and the place was still half full. As it was for an evening meal we ordered a couple of red wines to start. I recommend not doing this if you like nice red wine! Considering this isn’t a focus of the restaurant I am not surprised. For our meals we selected the O.G $18 and Sir Duke’s Parma $24. The Parma was large and came with a decent size of chips and salad on the side. The bocconcini on top of the mozzarella was a nice touch I haven’t seen elsewhere. The chicken was moist and the toppings tasty. The burger unfortunately was a huge let down. Melbourne’s restaurants these days, especially one like Sir Duke, seem to nail burgers however this one had a stale bun, the meat was VERY dry and the overall taste was just tomato and mustard sauce. Reading through the reviews this seems to be anomaly so who knows however I wont be ordering a burger from Sir Duke ever again.

Service? Approachable and attentive.
Wrap up: Overall a positive experience but won’t be ordering a burger from here again.
BONUS: Open till 10 pm daily! A hard find in the area

Visit number two. Wait staff friendly and smiley. Place is very busy. Plenty of seats, nice indoor outdoor feel on a warmer day. Decors clean and subtle.
Menu lacks kids options. Serving sizes are ample, could probably do one between two with some options. The brisket was a little dry. Coffee was very nice, the strong version of a latte was spot on.
Spicy burger had a nice little kick to it.
Meatballs review was they were good.
Overall a positive experience and deserving.
Jenny
Staff and environment were great. Food portions were a fairly big size, all the while delicious. Great, busy location on Puckle St. Also great for enjoying a drink, or three

‱ Sir ‱ Duke ‱ Look, I’m not the one to get a sandwich when I can just make it at home, but with Sir Duke I will make my one and only exception. I freaking love the “cubano” wait no I don’t just love it, I want to marry it. I just can’t explain how juicy and fatty and scrumptious and just a-maz-ing it is. Also I’m not the one to ditch my loyal French fries but oh god I love the sweet potato chips this place does, you could probably count it as a dessert cause it’s so sweet, but it melts in your mouth and leaves you craving it again after you’ve just finished it. #foodporn #food #foodblogger #foodphotography #sandwich #burger #chips

Food alright and service average. Do be aware of up-selling price gouging techniques though.

We didn’t order extras but they were offered after handing menus back but we weren’t made aware of the prices. So it was inferred they were included extras.

When we queried the unexpected charges with management they insisted we were made aware in writing of the prices on the menu but as we didn’t order anything extra and had already handed menus back means it would be obvious we didn’t read that portion of menu so when extras were offered obviously we weren’t thinking about charges and so obviously this tactic preyed on us and we feel cheated.

Given they refused to refund us or throw any little benefit of doubt our way means they’ve lost our custom.

Yum! I had the Smitten for ‘Shrooms for breakfast and it was delicious. Probably the best mushroom dish I’ve had for brekky! The serving size was generous and it was cooked as quick as a flash. I also had an Almond latte, which was lovely & creamy. I went there with my newborn in his pram. The restaurant is definitely pram/disabled friendly as I got around with no problem. The interior is on-trend and comfy. Looking forward to my next visit already.

Good coffee and lovely staff. Open till 10 pm daily which is rare to find in the Moonee Ponds (probably the only cafe). It's a kids-friendly cafe.

Went to Sir Dukes for a late lunch. It’s a nice cafe, has a big selection of dishes on the menu and it opens until 10pm!

We ordered the Penang Curry (rich coconut curry taste), Grilled Salmon (it was so fresh) and Hanoi Hanoi burger (pulled pork was so flavoursome). All delicious, generous portions and great value.

Great coffee (Code Black beans) and the creme brûlée shake hit the spot. The matcha latte was the only disappointing part of the meal. It lacked flavour and not worth $5. Definitely will come back here and try the rest of the menu and some of their cocktails.

Wow. What a brilliant pocket of a brunch restaurant offering one of the most diverse menus in brunch spheres, ranging from sandwiches to burgers, desserts and even mains! With service and decor befitting of a neat and delightful restaurant we could not wait to get into our meals.

Today we opted for a berry shake, beef brisket burger and pulled pork burger with a side of sweet potatoes. The milkshake- outstanding. A rainbow of flavours in your mouth from fairy floss, ice cream, berries and just deliciousness. This has got to be one of the best shakes we have ever had, and felt just right with all of the flavours mixing together. The beef brisket burger was very reminiscent of American meats, with the beef brisket parts containing perfect balances of fat and tender meat alike- a truly delightful meal. The pulled pork burger was complimented with some Vietnamese relishes making for an exciting meal.

The sweet potato fries were good as they always are at most restaurants, and we simply were left satisfied and definitely confident to claim this is one of the better brunch restaurants in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value: 4/5

Overall: 4/5

Fantastic sandwiches, we've had to go back again and again to try them all! The Cubano and the Eggplant Parma are truly amazing and more than worth the full price. The Reuban is above average but a bit dry (wish you could easily pick and choose different breads / fillings too). The Cheeky Chick is overpriced for what it is, and needs a kick of something extra to make it interesting.
The prices overall are a bit overpriced, but there are some standout dishes that make it worthwhile - hit and miss but mostly hit.
The sandwiches and main meals are consistent but the fries and some sides have been different in terms of serving size and seasoning / flavours on different occasions.
I like the decor a lot and it has a nice laid-back atmosphere.

Sir Duke is a spacious cafe on Puckle street, Moonee Ponds. They take bookings & split bills too so great for large groups. Service was friendly & the food came out so fast! Sir Duke has plenty of vegetarian/gluten free dishes on their menu. I ordered the crispy Halloumi burger with chips. The halloumi burger was very filling with the tomato relish giving it a lot of flavours. Highly recommend Sir Duke cafe for a satisfying meal.

These guys make a super delicious coffee! Service is a little average and I find the menu a little expensive and lacking in vegan options, HOWEVER - the food I’ve had has always been tasty and I love how much seating/space is available. Will be back for more coffee!
Hello. Imnikki
It's always hard to decide what to eat at an all-day eatery as the menu presents you with a full spectrum of dishes that covers breakfast all the way to dinner and desserts. When in doubt, order a burger and this was what I did. In a failed attempt to ear healthy, I chose the crispy halloumi burger, and it didn't let me down. The thickly-sliced halloumi was slightly springy and "meaty" enough to provide texture, while the marinated veggies and beetroot mayo impart a mix of savory and sweet flavours. The accompanying chips were hot and crunchy, just the way it should be.

My partner had been eyeing another customer's sandwich, so obviously he went with that. Deciding on which took some time, but he finally settled on a Reuben. Another choice that didn't disappoint. With plenty of sauerkraut and moist pastrami, it was hard not to demolish this sandwich.

Just as we had no issue with the food, we also had no issue with the service. Approachable and attentive. Maybe they had a read of the other reviews and made improvements?

The only lacklustre part of our meal were the drinks. The creme brulee milkshake was too sweet, and the coffee just good enough.
Stopped by for coffee and treats with 3 prams in tow and the staff were very accommodating. The matcha latte was excellent and very authentic, not too sweet just the way I like it. Also had a peanut butter brownie which was decadent fudgey goodness and a generous piece for $4. Would gladly come back to try the food.

Friendly & helpful service - happy to cater for modifications to menu items. The food & fresh juices are delicious... Can recommend the chilli scramble for breakky

Come here on the weekly with my boyfriend. Food is always great. I recommend the Penang Chicken, my partner always gets the OG Burger. Wide variety of menu food items and drinks and the staff is always lovely. My only complaint is they should have a big breakfast menu item, instead you have to order one of their dishes and add heaps of extras which are $4 each, it ends up costing way too much for a simply brekky.

Cool space. But this place seems to need more staff due to wait times from how many tables of people to serve. The food is OK. Great diverse menu. But I’ve eaten the chicken avocado sandwich a few times and every time it was slightly different.. toast was cooked different amounts, very saucey one time compared to barely any sauce the next time. The chips are not that great and the sweet potato ones don’t taste very nice. Coffee is pretty flat and gross. Some improvements need to be made at this cafe. Very friendly staff though!

I go here just for the Bailey's hot chocolate - but the food is also great. Food can be a little slow coming out during peak times but wait staff are lovely and attentive. The drinks menu is also ace.

The first time we came here we were disappointed by the coffee and food but thought we would give it another try.
The coffee still disappointing. But the food has improved a little.

Great food and service. Ordered the “Trumps Wall” burger with chips and beef brisket. It was delicious and the chips were lovely. Worth the money!

Not many cafes are open past 5 pm around Moonee Ponds on Sunday and Sir Duke is one of the rare cafes that have long trading hours from 7:30 am to 10 pm! The cafe looks new and inviting. It’s clean, bright, spacious and open. It wasn’t busy when we arrived at 4:30 pm but it looked like they only have 2 staff to service the cafe. We waited for a bit to get service and that’s ok as we’re not in a hurry. We were only there for coffee and cake. . I ordered the iced coffee frappe and jam doughnut whilst my partner ordered flat white with the deconstructed lemon cheesecake. They seemed to have an extensive menu and the desserts looked like house made. I didn’t quite enjoy my frappe, not sweet and cold enough for a hot day. My partner didn’t mind the cheesecake although he finds it a bit dense at the start. I wouldn’t mind returning to Sir Duke to try the other food on the menu.

Visited just after 4pm on Friday, attracted to the all-day dining menu and $12 cocktails. The menu has changed from the version on this site in that it seems you can order main meals at any time. My friend had flown in from interstate and we agreed to meet for a very early dinner before she had to go somewhere else. We ordered a cocktail each and these took 20 minutes to arrive. The cafe was not busy, maybe 4 other tables occupied. So I don't know why the drinks took so long. Our meals took close to 40 minutes to arrive. If you are going to market yourself as all-day dining, you have to be able to pump out dishes even when people order at weird times like 4.15pm. Having said that, the food was EXCELLENT, generously portioned, and reasonably priced. I've deducted one point due to the excessive wait time for drinks and food otherwise I would rate 5 out of 5. Sir Duke are part of the entertainment book bonus offers, offering 25% off.

We went out to Sir duke for our 27 th wedding anniversary Jan 18 , arrived not booked and pleased to get a table .The menu was enticing, healthy eating with some offerings different from the rest - Enjoyed the Salmon , cooked to perfection and on a bed of black rice salad with beetroot and spinach, the rice was delicious and easy on the palate, the balance of flavours was great . My husband had the chicken parma and it was moist , with a creative salad and perfect chips.

The service was exceptional with water on the table bought as soon as we walked in - appreciated on a hot day , the cocktail and wine menu was also fantastic and we loved the focus on local wines and produce , obviously well thought out selection . Ambience lovely , suitable for everyone , welcoming of families. Oh yes , and the price was more than reasonable , we will be back soon for a family brunch . Thanks for a lovely meal

Being a local, I had high hopes for Sir Duke. On arrival for brunch on a quiet weekday I was greeted and seated. But getting my order taken was a challenge. Certainly enough staff around but it seemed that chatting amongst themselves was more important to them. After several goes of getting their attention, one finally took my order.
I let the waitress know that I was popping into the loo. Having to walk past the kitchen is one thing, but staff lockers, open doors to staff room and garbage area is quite unpleasant. The hallway to the bathrooms was quite dirty too. Dirty walls, doors and some rubbish on the floor.

On return to my table, I found a waiter clearing my drink and wiping the table! The food was actually quite nice; carrot and haloumi fritters.
The fit out is nice and they’ve clearly thought about the menu carefully. Just get the service angle fixed. Staff socialising and laughing, ignoring customer is not good, and a dirty worn area for customers to see is also off putting.
This is the site of my old favourite eatery lemon soul, so sad to see that place close but very happy to have Sir Duke replace it.
Good menu and quality food.
Great coffee and fast friendly service.
I really hate lining up for my weekend breakfast and at this place I have never had that problem, plenty of seating and not pretentious its a great place for couples and family's who want to enjoy a beautifully presented plate in a cozy atmosphere.
A new favorite in the area I highly recommend.
Shareefie
Pretty standard cafe. It had a very strong fish smell the day we ate there. I got the cubano sandwich which was decent but it’s a bit stingy to have to order chips separately.
Max
Really cute place, had this for breakfast yesterday, the halloumi and carrot fritter. It was okay, didn’t really taste the halloumi in it. Eggs were cooked well. Got hash browns on the side that were nice! Probably would come here again to try something for lunch/dinner instead.

It makes it so much easier to write a review when the manager forgets to place your order, having sat there waiting patiently for 30mins and the best that he could do is offer a free coffee... yea no thanks. I'll never step foot in here again. Wouldn't waste my time.
Dion
This morning, my fiancé and I had a deplorable first time experience at "Sir Duke". The manager whom took out order forgot to place our breakfast meals and coffees through. So after waiting 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a member of staff and a further 20 minutes waiting for our forgotten food and coffee to arrive, we walked out. Manager offered us a free coffee to apologise. We declined. Where is the 0 star button?

I’ve been to Sir Duke 5 times and it’s been disappointing 4 times.

The fit out is nice, not amazing and it is very loud I the cafe.

The food is below average, often cold when it is served, sometimes burnt. Ugh and serve avocado fresh not mashed with the rancid oil that you mix in with it, it tastes disgusting.

The coffee is hit and miss.

The service is appalling. The staff are not enthusiastic or friendly, they make lots of errors, they’re slow to serve people, they don’t clean up tables quickly. It’s really poor in comparison to the vast number of cafes around the area.

The cafe needs to really think about the basics and getting them right. What staffing is needed? What are the standard processes that need to be in place to deliver a satisfactory customer experience? How can the kitchen operate effectively so it can cook meals for an entire group so they can be served at the same time? How can the baristas speed things up to get through the orders they need to?

It’s not rocket science, it’s basic hospitality operations.

Lots to improve, not wasting my money again.

Named after a Stevie Wonder song, Sir Duke offers Moonee Ponds a taste of the high life with their classy yet relaxed ambience, combined with a creative menu that fuses Mediterranean, Asian and Australian flavours across their breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
Dale Zeinheiger Culpin
Although not too bad of a feed, there was a lacking of a lot of flavours, we visited for dinner and I had the Parma while the Mrs had the Thai Salad. Flavours unbalanced particularly in the Thai salads peanut dressing and my Parma was pretty average except the mozzarella hunks on top really. Chicken and flavours no different to most pubs. Their chips are spot on though and nice and crispy. Probably the highlight. It wasn't terrible however, but I'd probably choose another option for dinner around the area. I'll still be there in the not too distant future to try their breakfast, as they're a cafe, I have hopes it'll be good.

Awesome food and great service. The meals were delicious and a good size. The doughnuts were especially good and I can't wait to try the other varieties. The staff were attentive and friendly. This is a great addition to the Moonee Ponds area. Well done.

Excellent service our waitress was so cute and always checked up on us💕
We only got drinks and dessert- snickers and cheesecake desserts. Very decadent. Very nice

This place is setting the standard for eateries in the area. Well done guys, love my morning coffee at Sir Duke
I have a cheeky pit bull pup and he too is welcomed by the lovely staff, and George appreciated the fresh water provided
Donny x

I live in the area and was so excited to see this place open. Unfortunately I have been there twice and both times the food was pretty disappointing. First time I got the mushroom burger and it’s obvious they don’t use fresh produce... It was so unappetising. The next time I went there I went for dinner and got the seafood pasta and it was disgusting! I never usually say that on a review however I couldn’t even finish the meal and felt super sick afterwards.. I won’t be back. The service was ok but nothing special.

I couldn't wait to take photos because the food was so delicious! Very yummy and very good coffee!!!
We had breakfast salad and some tasty side dishes. (The food is not oily!)

Sir Duke is the newest and best cafe on Puckle street. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a beautiful inside area which is spacious and clean, and an outside area which is covered and perfect to bring along your dogs. I've been here multiple times and had enjoyed the "Aussie dream" (avo on toast), haloumi and carrot fritters, and sweet potato fries. Portion sizes are generous. They also do matcha and golden lattes which are not too overpowering and not too sweet. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Will continue to keep coming here!

This is an addition to my previous review đŸ˜ș
Off we went to Sir Duke last night for their $12 Parmarama night and boy it was worth it! (Please note only the parma is $12, sides are additional)

One of the cats got the Duke (napoli, mozzarella, bocconcini) and the other got the Uncle Luigi (napoli, mozzarella, meatballs).

❀ The Duke was definitely a winner! Crispy, the right thickness and covered in cheesy goodness. Both parmas were HUGE! The fat fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Loved the dip that accompanied the fries too.

đŸ–€ The salad on the other hand was slightly soggy and had a weird aftertaste from the bean sprouts in it possibly. One of the cocktails we ordered, the Sucker Punch was a bit sour for my liking but deemed enjoyable by the other cat.

❀ Customer service was friendly, prompt and attentive.

❀ Overall, we would highly recommend Sir Duke and would rate it đŸ˜șđŸ˜șđŸ˜șđŸ˜ș.5/5
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sir Duke is the cutest addition to Puckle street. The place is beautifully decorated and service is always friendly. So far I've only had takeaway coffees, but I will definitely be back to try food items from their extensive menu. Coffee is good but not as creamy as I usually like mine. Worth a visit if you're in the area :3
Really liked this place. Staff were friendly and service was fast, however drinks took an abnormally long to arrive at the table. Food was nice although the toast was expensive at $7 for 2 TINY slices with a teaspoon of vegemite..

Food was absolutely disgusting ham was white and smelt no tomato in sandwich and food looked slopped together. No care taken. Would not come back.

Average with a side of hair-that's all I can say.

Went here with the family, five of us, on a Thursday night for dinner. It wasn't busy at all but still the service staff seemed overwhelmed and did not do a good job. Bad service is definitely a way to ruin your business. The owner or whatsoever supervisor was standing behind the bar not doing a lot at all even after our drink order went through.
All in all it took ages for the service staff to bring over some glasses for the water that we got after 20 minutes, take our orders after all and the food plus drinks to come out.
Food was alright, nothing out of the ordinary. BUT there was a hair in my risotto, which I think is unexceptional. No wonder though, making my way down to the toilets, walking past the open kitchen I could see that hygiene isn't a big thing at sir duke. This place is hopeless and i will not be coming back!

Have been here before and was empressed enough to come back.... BUT the second time wasn't the charm.

Met at door and asked if takeaway or dining, we were dining and promptly given a menu and told to sit at any table. Going well so far, THEN

Ordered coffee x 2 and waited nearly 30mins for a Luke warm coffee. The waiter left and another waiter decided that we looked ready to take an order from us. Confused as to why the person who delivered the coffee didn't ask us!

We ordered the Hotcake for partner and I ordered eggs on toast scrambled with bacon, home made hash brown and mixed mushroom.

This took ages to turn up and far from pleased. Hotcake looked like a cake in a bowl and taste like a white wings packet cake from Coles!

Scrambled Eggs on toast were a bit runny but ok and bacon was nice BUT the home made hash looked burnt and absolutely flavorless and the mushrooms were bland. Love mixed mushrooms but I could only take a mouthful.

Very disappointed and won't be back which is a shame as looking for an alternative Sunday breakfast place. Well back to the best one in moonee ponds and that is "Dear Abbey".

All online information states that it opens at 7.30am however after visiting this morning I was turned away at 7.40am and told they were not open yet. Disappointing false advertising. If this is the case online information needs to amended to reflect that.

Nice lean bacon for breakfast. Kid friendly menu whilst still being adult. Had the morning revival and bacon n eggs. Very lovely no fuss food.
Lovely decore and staff. Will go back for dinner

Attended with friend and baby. Minimal space for a pram. Waiter tried to take away my friends coffee with 1/3rd still remaining. Food was mediocre, nothing special. Will not come again.

Good portion size. Got the mushroom and egg dish and was not disappointed. Only let down was not much Fetta but otherwise delicious. Decor was fresh and looked clean and the area was spacious. Would come back.

Came in early , so expected good service and got it, the menu items and the way they're described is probably aimed at the step ford wives clubs , the decor is a cross between shopping centre food court crassness with an emphasis on pastels , and bright lights ,and a low grade Hamptons theme. The food was very good though, the scrambled eggs with chilli were excellent , and my friend had the breakfast roll, the coffee is slightly above average but there is better coffee in Puckle Street, much better actually . Pricing is up there though, so the standards for good food have to be maintained and the coffee has to improve . Might try the lunch menu next time.

Came here for breakfast, good service, the pastel and white makeover is a big improvement , just that the lighting is too mall- food -court bright for my liking. The coffee is ok and pleasant but not above average. The food, yes is a bit pricey but the chilli scrambled eggs were pretty dam good.

hit and miss. been here a couple of times because it's near work, the first time was when they'd just opened so it was forgiven that the wrinkles in service and food weren't ironed out. my recent visit was a bit more disappointing, especially because i'd have thought they'd have pulled their socks up but the service was lackluster and bordering pretentious... a smile and just, at the very least, a warm vibe goes a long way in obtaining return customers. the coffee is good, the food is nothing special in melbourne these days but coffee isn't enough to make me wanna endure feeling unwelcome...

We went during the lunch rush and it was packed! Service remained very friendly and polite though, although the kitchen did a take a bit of time to get the orders out. I had the Magic Mushroom burger, which was juicy and delicious, with just the right amount of oozing sauce and flavour. The sweet potato fries was also really good (could be crispier though!). I've also been back for a hot chocolate that could've been more chocolatey, but otherwise I'm looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu.

First meal upon our return to Melbourne after our Italian adventure. We'd noticed this place taking shape during our usual shop in Moonee Ponds and were pretty keen to try it out. Sir Duke definitely didn't disappoint! 🙂 I went with the fish tacos and husband had the burger! Both were delicious and we'll be making this a regular haunt post-shopping trips. 😊

Placed order, waited at least half an hour, asked where our food was, they had placed the order, food not that good ordered poached eggs on sourdough toast, bread wasn't toast and bread all soggy. Looked like they had taken eggs out of water and hadn't drained water off.

Good room between tables especially for prams. The decor in the café doesn't really make sense to me, it's a bit bland and the colours don't seem to go well together, but the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the spicy calamari soba noodle salad. It wasn't that spicy.
Vegemite Girl
Lovely place- heating outside, pretty decor, free sparkling water. Way too noisy inside - however, it was worth it. We ordered coffees, green and chai tea. Extra hot and with real tea leaves- lovely. I ordered sourdough toast with vegemite and a side of avocado and mixed mushrooms. The serving size was generous and the mushrooms divine. My sister had the recovery burger and parents had muesli and the meat plate. All good.

11/07/2017
Sadly, i need to change my review based on the fact that we wanted to come for lunch today and try the donuts and the three amigos only to be told that these are only served after three. We went to Cafe 2000 instead. It is just as easy to cook a donut at 1245 as it is at 3.

Fantastic food. Caters for coeliac allergies. Decor and atmosphere is nice đŸ‘đŸŸ Has a great feel. Wait staff are friendly and helpful. Had the eggs benny... which was delicious. Noticed a lot of bad reviews for this place and for a new place I think it's unjustified. Bit like a new parent with a new baby... you can't expect things to be millimetre perfect in the beginning. Most importantly my wife and I enjoyed our breakfast. Ps the yolk for both bennys was perfect! 5 stars guys.

2 June 2018. Visited this place on Saturday afternoon for lunch. Right on point. This time I brought my father and sister. The dishes and coffee were all fantastic! Service was excellent again! Keep it up guys!

New cafe in Moone Ponds so had to try it out. The venue was nice. Plenty of tables inside and heated seating outside. However can get quite loud inside.

Staff were great. Seated us right away and were quick with taking the orders. Coffee came out relatively quick. Food took a little longer.

As for the food. Flavours were great. However some of the servings were a little on the smaller side. Especially my Rueben sandwich. The burger was pretty decent. Maybe just a bit too much bun. Chips however needed some more seasoning cause they were a little dull. So was the aioli. Bbq sauce was nice though.

Fritters were a little salty. But again flavours were really nice. Hope the feedback helps and we look forward to trying out the sweeter dishes soon. Good luck with the new cafe!

We shared the three amigos and the burrito bowl vegan and I couldn't decide which I liked more, both were amazing! The place looks really good and feels spacious. The jasmine at the entrance was a nice touch too.
Tilley
Food was average- burrito bowl that was mostly stale rice with cheese. Atmosphere was meh. Don't think I'll be back. Disappointing as it seemed like a lovely new cafe to bring to moonee ponds.

Had the Parma for dinner and really enjoyed it. Place had a nice busy atmosphere with a good vibe.. Would even recommend the sweet potato fries

A few friends were talking about Sir Duke so we decided to try it out for lunch today. Did not disappoint! Had the Chilli Calamari and my sister ordered the 3 Amigos. Was delicious and super attentive staff. Worthy of a visit !

As this place is a stones throw away from my house, I had to pop in. First things first, I love the pretty fit out. You can tell a lot of thought went into the decor. The takeaway coffee cups are also very cute. We had good service, staff were very accommodating. If they keep this up it will keep
People coming back. Service is everything in the Melbourne cafe scene.

The food was good, I had the Rueben sandwich. There was probably a bit too much sauerkraut in it but that was easily removed. The one thing that I noticed was that it is a bit expensive. $15 for a bowl of chips is a bit much (or did I see this wrong?!?) - and $5 to add a serve of chips to a sandwich, Parma is a bit much too. This might need some tweaking but other than that I'd go back.

Great menu with a variety of dishes and cuisines that is sure to please. From curries, to burgers, pasta, steak, parmas and tortilla to name a few. Fabulous cocktails and a range of scrumptious mouth watering donuts. And thats just dinner. I'll be back again and again. My new go to place!
Lisa
I understand that this new but, we waited 25 minutes for coffee. The waiting staff were disorganised and the woman on the door terse and unhelpful. Other staff were polite but under the pump and no- one directing proceedings. Customer service non existent. Lots of unhappy customers waiting too long for simple orders. I hope it gets better, until then lots of cafes to go to. Coffee just ok. Food looked nice.

I like the deco and ambience of the place, i think it has potential to be a gem on puckle street, in fact the cosy ambience kinda lift your expectations of the food. Unfortunately the food in terms of value and taste is sorely lacking. I had the parma and it was tiny!!! a parma has to be BIG and it has to come with chips, not add $5 for chips. I would certainly pay more for a big pub-size parma with chips. Hmm but then again it probably has save me quite a few calories without chips! The saving grace of the dish was the salad, that was nice and refreshing and sauce was also not bad. hopefully the Sir Duke will consider upping the size of the parma next time. My friend had the beef burger and it was also lacking in flavour, what made it worse was the over cooked dry beef patty.

Having said that, its a new place and these are probably teething issues. I am very sure that things will be better when feedback and suggestions have been taken into consideration.

I know its early days and there were plenty of teething problems that will smooth out over time, but we were disappointed with the price/ value and food. On a positive note the coffee was good. My main reason for low marks was menu vs what arrived. I ordered the breakfast salad. At $18 i was expecting some great flavours; didnt happen. The serve was small, had not a lot of flavour, kale was missing completely and just missed the mark. My friend had eggs benny, flavours were good but the serving was tiny. Again at $18 would expect a lot more to impress. We would come back for coffee but skip the food.
