Review One O Three - Moonee Ponds

Wally Chiang
The only cafe open on Good Friday. Family run business (from Thailand). Good service, good coffee. Haven’t had the chance to try their food yet but based on what I see other people ordered, it also looks pretty good. Will sure return and give their food a try next time.

I've been here twice, once was pretty bad and the second time i want to give them another chance but they didn't redeem themselves. The staff are just plain rude to customers and other staff members. There is just a general unfriendly vibe when you walk in the place. It's pretty awkward waiting for a meal when you can hear someone getting yelled at. Both times I was there I had to wait over half an hour for my food and the place wasn't even busy. I guess they rather yell at their staff than cook food that has been ordered. The food itself wasn't that great, not the worst, but defiantly not the best. However, the rude staff is the main reason why I will never come here again.

Was employed here for barley 2 weeks and couldn't stand it. The managers are awful witches, speaking absoultely terriably to not only the staff but also the customers! The cafe is extremely uncomfortable to work in to the point where I was even scared to go to work. I was also told by another staff member than she has worked with more than 30+ people since nobody will stay and deal with this. Everything I did was critised and I was always spoken down to like I was stupid, constanly being belittled. Any customer who isn't a regular is completely disregarded. Oh, you are a new customer who has a simple question about our menu? You're stupid and now I'll go and gossip about your order in the kitchen. The managers are constaly bickery at each other causing them to act out on their staff. They are always going to sitting down with customers for a chit chat or even sitting down during the middle of the day to have a meal or a coffee! The pay is ridiculously low for the amount of WEEKEND work I was doing and I only recieved one 30 minute break near the end of my 8 hour shift. This is a family run cafe so I highly reccomend to avoid it at all costs. This is not how a bussiness should be run and nobody should be treated badly for trying to help a bussiness out. I called in sick one weekend day and I never heard from them again. Thank god.

Cosy cafe with good coffee and tasty food. I had the eggs with spicy pumpkin with kale pesto - delicious! We were looked after by the staff. Definitely the pick of cafes on Puckle Street

After we took our seat at the back, it was as if we had been completely forgotten. A waiter brought us water and menus, then no one returned for almost 20 minutes. To make things worse, the water actually smelt like piss. We walked out and no one even noticed.

Under new ownership, has been rebranded as a Burmese food cafe. Much better coffee now thou

I liked the blonde lady that worked there, she was always friendly and payed attention to my thirsty dog by providing a water bowl outside
Sad to see this place is closed, but the writing was on the wall
Our breakfast destination of choice when staying in Moonee Ponds. Good coffee and healthy options including GF on the menu. Great location on Puckle Street with all the amenities you need - inside or outside, Staff are friendly and for the non conversant there are the papers to read.

Came here 6 months ago for the morning coffee special and have back every time since. Staff are always lovely, great quick service and the chorizo toastie is my life saver.

Customer service is always exceptional, owner is always present and on floor. Great energy and a nice place to sit down and eat, grab your coffee and relax.

Never disappointed. Couldn't ask for more hospitable and accommodating service.

Have been to this cafe quite few times to meet friends however I will not be returning. Had a short encounter with one of the owners who I found quite rude and abrupt and a few lessons in people skills would not go astray with her. Bit of a shame as the young girl who takes the orders and serves is lovely and the food and coffee quite good.

Hands down my favourite coffee/lunch venue in Moonee Ponds. Coffee is great, food delicious, service very good and a good atmosphere inside. Manager and staff always very friendly and chatty. Its usually reasonably busy when I'm there without being annoyingly noisy , good to people watch as the world goes by on Puckle Street...another coffee please!

Amazing local cafe with great menu and staff. Very accommodating and great courtyard area with larger tables for our mother's group. Enjoy our weekly catch up here

When previously attending this venue I (Nic) had friends who work there look after me. Based on my experience each time I went there it was good service as they looked after me. Food was always okay, nothing special and quality of coffee was done to the best it could be with what would be described as boring beans. Being they have both departed from the business I worry for the quality of service knowing that the management has been known to bite back at customers in person which is no way to run a business, which is confirmed by other reviewers clashing with management.

Stumbled across One O Three last weekend after being un able to find a cafe on a very busy and cold Sunday morning. I arrived with a friend who had her guide dog, the staff were incredibly generous and attentive to all customers (not just self & company). The heated courtyard was a bonus for a typical Melbourne day. The food was decent portions and very affordable prices. Have already recommended to a couple of friends and will not hesitate to return for the great coffee.

When I walked in to the cafe, it seemed like a nice place to have lunch and coffee. But I quickly found out that this was far from a nice place to even have coffee. First of all, they messed up my drink order and tired to blame me for it. I asked for a soy latte but they gave me a regular milk cappuccino, im sure they just took it to the wrong table but they couldn't even admit their mistake.

I ordered the mini burgers and I had to wait ages for my food (about 30 mins.) It seemed ridiculous to wait for my food for so long, considering the place was practically empty. When I did eventually get my food, it tasted like they had just cooked it in the microwave. The patty in the burgers were soggy and a little cold in the middle. But to their credit, the chips were pretty good.

Over all, my experience at Cafe One O Three left a lot to be desired. And based on some of the other reviews on here, it seemed like my experience wasn't unique. I won't return here again.

Was great to finally find a place that uses proper A2 milk. The staff are very friendly and the good very good. Prices are very reasonable too. Highly recommended.

One O Three Had a great breakfast today, this was the only place on the street that was open. Great service and quality food and coffee.

One O Three Cafe Crapas

I disliked this place so much the first time, I came back a second time to make sure I wasn't being too harsh. Let it be noted my SECOND visit today left me so irritated I even signed up to this application to leave a negative review.

If you like rude staff, an ugly shop, over priced food and dishes that taste nothing like Spanish cuisine, you need to visit One O Three Crapas.

The best part about this place was leaving.

Luke DA

I regularly go here for breakfast/brunch. The service is amazing. The coffee is excellent. The scrambled eggs are simply delicious. I enjoy the friendly, warm atmosphere

No return.

Went to this so called cafe and was pested to come in off the street. We eventually sat down to rest and at first ordered coffee which was terrible and cold and we ordered our breakfast. We waited 30mins for our order and still never arrived. The staff kept on telling us one more minute but the food never arrived. The cafe was quite so don't see the reason for the delay. Anyway we got very angry we walked out without having our food! The lady at the coffee counter rolled her eyes back and didn't even acknowledge us. What happened to being professional and providing customer service.
Never will I return.

Let's start with the pros: coffee was nice, conveniently located and the pricing is good too.

Now to the cons: I ordered ricotta hotcakes, waited 25 minutes, and the food never came. While I was waiting, there was a little older lady making coffees who was constantly telling her staff off. 'Table x coffees are done, take them out NOW', 'what coffee is extra hot, you need to write it on the same line or I won't understand' 'table x is waiting', 'three people just walked out the back yeah?' And other things like that. While I appreciate all of this falls under 'good' customer service, it made me feel really awkward.

While she was busy having her eyes all over the place, I thought she would see that I had been sitting there without food for about 20 minutes and double check on the kitchen...that never happened. So after almost 30mins of waiting, I left and told the counter guy I was only paying for the coffee cause the food never came. She overheard this and did nothing. Didn't even bother asking me what went wrong.

Had I ordered something really obscure, or over the top, fair enough, take as long as you need. However taking more than 25 minutes to make ricotta hotcakes? That's unheard of! Even if you were making them from scratch!

Maybe the food here is good, but I won't know that cause I didn't get to try it. Though the only advice I could offer is perhaps if your coffee shop is situated in an area surrounded by 1hour parking limits, maybe having a menu that requires a lot of time to prep for isn't ideal. If it wasn't for the parking situation, I definitely would've asked to see how my meal was going, but I had no time.

Not sure if I'd come back, the experience was rather disappointing. And I could name at least two other places in the same area id rather return to especially after this occasion.

One O Three Cafe is a business that should work, but it doesn't. The ingredients are there - good staff, interesting menu (though I wouldn't call it a tapas bar), they cater for dietary requirements and the location is good. But that's it. I don't think the owners really have much experience with food.

I ordered the avocado and feta smash for breakfast which is supposed to be served on a bed of spinach with poached eggs. The spinach consisted of about 3 or 4 leaves, the avocado was a thin smear on top and the feta was virtually non-existent. The feta was so stingily applied that it may as well have not even been there. Also, the meal wasn't seasoned. Not a speck of salt could be tasted.

In fact, the only generous part of the dish was the bread - the rest of it was almost an afterthought and a complete rip-off for $15.50 when you can pay under $10 for a plate of bacon and eggs which would have been far more substantial and satisfying.

My advice? Get your ratios right, don't be so stingy and remove the 'Tapas Bar' part of your name - its misleading and (quite frankly) trying too hard. I now understand why the cafe was empty when we walked in.

Nothing worse than shopping on an empty stomach. In Moonee Ponds today and thought we would check out the local cafes.
After walking up and down Puckle St, we were drawn to One O Three Cafe Tapas Bar.

The cafe inside is nice and clean and has a courtyard out the back as well as seating out the front. Very comfortable seating.

Service was excellent from the moment we walked in and throughout our dining from the 3 staff on the floor.

The food was demolished on our plates. We ordered the mini burgers and also the Pancakes. Menu will have our choices in more detail. Pancakes were huge and perfect consistency all the way through. The mini burgers were perfect sizes and filling for an afternoon.

We will be back for breakfast.

AVERAGE SPANISH FOOD, BAD SERVICE -- Overall the food was nice, just nice, not specially good, and overpriced. Service was lacking at times, bad others.

I had the three tapas on offer plus a coffee.

Three croquettes (croquetas in Spanish not croquettas) 12+ bucks. The flavour was lovely, but not much serrano or manchego on view or on my palate, it tasted mostly of bechamel. Mushy rocket. Minuscule portion of aioli.

Albondigas (Four meatballs 10 dollars). They were nice in flavour thanks to a lovely multi-textured sauce, but the meat of the meatballs was too chewy and hard. A bit of breadcrumbs mixed with the mince would have made the meatballs softer and more edible, juicier, like the ones I ate with gusto when I lived in Spain. I liked the sauce, but that is not brava sauce.

Chorizo en sidra (12.5 bucks) is perhaps the winner regarding taste, with a very tasty chorizo and accompanying fresh chunky sauce.

Coffee is not good. Barely any flavour. Too milky to be called a flat-white. It was well prepared, so it must be the roasting or mix of beans used.

The fact that the manager was rude to me at the beginning, ruined my experience straight away. The two young girls were way nicer, but the manager should be preaching by example not treating customers as crap just because they make a simple question. She self-corrected and modified her behaviour towards me later on (perhaps she noticed that I was taking pictures?) and was lovely to some Spanish-speaking regulars (or family?), but hey, if you treat non-regulars as crap, they won't ever become regulars. I won't go back.

The staff had their mind elsewhere in general. I asked for a skinny flat white one, and a full-cream one was brought to me. There were just a few customers in the place, so there is no excuse not to take orders properly. A couple who entered way after me were served water immediately, I had to ask the waitress for it, when she was passing with the bottle.

Next!

Average food, average coffee, BAD attitudes. Went the other weekend, there was a mistake with my food sent it back owner had such a bad attitude about it and we could here arguing in the kitchen. We tried to move tables together and the you would think I tried to rearrange the whole restaurant with the looks I got. If you are not prepared to meet customers needs and expectations you shouldn't work in hospitality.

I'm a regular client at one o three in moonee ponds and can honestly say it's one of the best coffee shops i've been to! Great food, Great coffee! The staff are all beautiful and always smiling and friendly! I would personally and strongly recommend the nutella hot chocolates, they're absolutely perfect!
Wendy
Don't bother for breakfast, the young chick in the kitchen has an attitude that Gorden Ramsey would be happy with.... Waitress is friendly, but I was there a few weeks ago and the place is shocking... Not worth it !!!!
Rachael
Bad food, bad service...yuk !
Rude waitress and even ruder cook when food went back because eggs were too runny...bacon cold and served as if thrown on plate. What they hell are these people doing....ruining the food industry..get out and find a real job...

I just love that place. I walked past one morning, looking for a breakfast place. I liked the look and the menu. The moment I walked in I was greeted and feel like home. It was awesome. The food is delicious and very good quality, service is top and the prices are very affordable. My new favorite restaurant. Everything is fresh and self made. And you can taste it.

Mixed feelings. I just moved to the area and I am slowly making my way around the local cafes. The food here was good and the menu was impressive, but the coffee left much to be desired, not that it tasted awful it just didn’t look like an amazing cup of coffee, it was what it would look like if I tried to make my own, but that could have been a one off. The two people in charge were speaking Spanish in the corner and I have a pretty good understanding of Spanish, it is quite a small cafe so I wasn’t eavesdropping on purpose. They were having a discussion about the staff and it wasn’t overly pleasant. Made myself and my friend feel quite uncomfortable as the staff members I assume they were talking about had no idea. Food is only one aspect of a good cafe, conversations like that should be done in the privacy of an office. Maybe focusing the negative energy into something more positive like on coffee skills would improve things for the better.

Regular hangout , great food and coffee. The owner is always friendly and talkative. Fast service. Food all freshly made. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Fantastic cafe, I visit daily and it's wonderful coffee every single time. Staff are lovely people and the cafe is setup in a very cute manner. The only cafe in Moonee Ponds that I would make a recommendation for.

The best coffee in Moonee Ponds!. Great cafe for a nice lunch and the best coffee. Always found the staff very attentive and friendly, and the owner is quite amusing and enjoy chatting to her. Menu is quite extensive and imaginative and the meals I have there have been great. Love the chocolate sprinkles on the coffee and of course the little teddy. One 0 Three is doing a great job. Love it.

Amazing hot chocolate. This place serves amazing hot chocolates. They are so chocolatey and creamy. They even have a nutella hot choc (which I tried today and I would have to say this is probably my favourite hot choc I've ever had (and I've had a LOT of hot chocs!)
The staff are very friendly. It's a lovely atmosphere, sitting outside right next to the flower shop.
I am yet to try the food, although my friend today had the bacon and eggs which she said was delicious.
I think this is going to be my new local go-to cafe.

Don't open if you are not prepared to serve people. Went on Xmas eve for a quick bite...ordered a coffee...and an item off the tapas menu....coffee took forever....after a long wait of over half an hour, I was told what ordered was off the menu because it required cooking.....I was asked to pick something else, which I did....after waiting another thirty minutes or so....I asked if my food was coming and I was told no....no apology.......it was like if they waited long enough I would just pay for my coffee and leave...which of course I did...I heard the woman who ran the place turn many people away and say she had to get home to cook for xmas day.....

Don't be in business and open on a day when you are well aware you won't be serving people....

First and Last time. I Went to 103 for lunch today with my friends.
The food was ABSOLUTELY shocking, the serves was even more atrocious
No chefs in site, somebody explain how it is possible to run a business like this

i will never be back there again and will be letting my friends aware of this place

should have just gone to lemon soul !!

Great food. Have been here for coffee on several occasions and the coffee is always good. This morning we went for breakfast. We had the traditional bacon and eggs on ciabatta which was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and looking forward to going back to try lunch. Reasonably priced good quality food - give it a try.

Great service. We went there for breakfast this morning and the lady was absolutely wonderful and very friendly. The food was very very nice. Definitely would go there again next time we come to Melbourne :)

Bueno. Wife and I went for breakfast -- I had the Spanish baked eggs with crusty bread (forget their name for it) and she had the banana pancakes -- and we both quite enjoyed it. Coffee was good and they had water out and a treat at the ready for our dog, which is always a plus. We'll be back!

Nice hot coffee. Could be stronger.. We came here for coffee. Nice flavour. Well made. Could be a bit stronger. Next time, will have to ask for extra shot. This place used to be Red Brick Road who makes a nice strong coffee.
