Just a coffee stop today. Can’t fault the product or the service. The coffee was superb. Service was charming. Cute place too. We’ll be back.
Cute little place, friendly staff who put up with my friend and I chatting for 2 hours and seemed to have lovely regulars.
I had the crunchy veg and the home-made orange blossom lemonade. The sandwich was the nicest sandwich I've had in years, had the home-made feel to it. And the home-made lemonade was very nice, not overly sweet or bubbly. My friend got an iced chocolate and she said it was lovely.
Small and quaint, Luncheonette has settled into the quieter side of an inner suburb of Melbourne.

Review:
To be frank, there can be nothing wrong with the classic eggs benny, hollandise sauce sitting on a rich mushroom party.
The textures were there - from the crispy polenta, to the soft mushrooms, to the bite of the halloumi.
Food looks quite small, but packs a punch.
The inside is quite small, but it's not nauseatingly cramped. This is probably due to the natural sunlight flooding the interior; letting you experience the 'outside' without the inconvenience of eating outside. This is great for the locals of Kensington. Away from the bustle of Kensington road, but also a stone's throw away from the community.
Luncheonette is a cute, small cafe in which you can find coffee and a bite to eat. Simple, limited but tasty-looking menu from which I choose the Reuben sandwich. The toast arrived fairly quickly and despite its semplicity it tasted really good. Honestly, I would recommend to eat here if you are after a honest simple meal served with lots of smiles and love.

We have often overlooked Luncheonette because the Premises was always too appealing. That and my uncle had given us a depressing view of this place. This time around we decided to make a conscious effort to try this place out.
My uncle didn't rate this place very highly as the last time he came here, which admittedly was years ago, he said he was given spoilt milk in his coffee. He has never forgiven Luncheonette for that as despite complaining to the staff at the time, they dismissed his concerns.
So anyway, we came here for a leisurely breakfast. It was a good thing we were in a leisurely mood as the food did take a while to come out. Can't blame the place as their kitchen is literally just the 1m2 space behind the coffee machine, manned by one woman who was frantically trying to cook and stack coffee beans away at the same time.
We ordered the Luncheonette breakfast roll and the baked eggs. The breakfast roll was great! It had everything I was craving that day such as egg, bacon, beetroot and garlic aioli. 5/5
My husband said the baked eggs were "simple" but that the chorizo infused with the eggs making it very tasty. 4/5
In terms of coffees ... well ... my husband said he didn't like his latte. There was something "not quite right" with it but he couldn't pinpoint what was wrong. His second coffee was much better so he said he was glad he gave it a second shot. I had a chai latte and that was nice. No complaints there. 4/5
Slow and steady wins the race. Any slower and I would have ate my own hands. Fortunately my curried egg sandwich came in time before I made a mess of myself and I ended up devouring the currylicious eggs that was oozing out between the toasts. As great as the Rueben I previously had here. Looking over at my partner's brioche French toast, I couldn't help but sneak a bite. It was crispy and fluffy and buttery and dreamy and heavenly and absolutely fattening. So I quickly stop and get on with my coffee. Coffee was great, also in a mug so I can hug it in the cold cold morning.
The food is nice here , but the coffee tastes really under roasted which isn't for me. The service is friendly but soooo slooooow. Not great if you're super hungry or in a rush but a decent casual spot for locals.
I stumbled upon Luncheonette, after a long search to find a decent coffee. But, I must say, it provided much more than that. Not only did I get one of the best coffees I've tasted in Melbourne, but I had the most amazing baked eggs, complete with chorizo. Don't miss out on one of the better breakfasts in Melbourne!
Coffee politics aside, Luncheonette makes for one mean cutie of a café. Good ingredients and pleasant staff make it a much more appealing choice than the hustle and bustle across the road in Kensington’s main drag.

Don't judge a book by its cover....this place looks a little ordinary from the outside & about as small as a kids' lunchbox on the inside. Surprisingly, the food was interesting & delicious. The chef put in a lot of effort & time into our meals......& we rewarded her by leaving spotlessly clean plates! Perfectly sized menu. Not too many choices but everybody would be able to find something to suit their appetite. Homemade biscuits & coffee were a hit too.... YUM.

Saterday. Local friend took me here - Cute little Sandwich place -Small/Intimate - Decent Coffee - Nice Sandwich (the Ruben?) - Good option to mix it up for a weekend afternoon - would visit again.
Cosy and Cute. I love the Luncheonette. Every time I've been there the staff have been friendly and efficient, every meal I've tried on the menu has been lovely (I've tried a few, the breakfast roll being the favourite) and very well sized to fill me up, the atmosphere is always pleasant. It was a lucky day the day I stumbled upon this place

Brilliant baked eggs. I've had the baked eggs with chorizo many a-time and never been disappointed. Always perfectly cooked, with runny eggs and crusty bread.
The place is much smaller than others in Kensington and the menu is simple- no big breakfast or choose-your-own-adventure type thing. But what they do, they do well.
Great food but.... I love this cafe, the food is really good, Ruben is deliscious but 30 mins wait for a take out order.
I appreciate the attention to detail from the kitchen, but I would prefer faster service.
The serving size was small for the price, still I will go back but not when I'm in a hurry...
Above the rest. This quaint little gem, packs character almost as pleasing as the food and coffee on offer and proves you do not need a fully equipped kitchen to do so.
The Ruben (grilled sandwich) seems to have made it onto a number of cafe menu's in Melbourne, in my opinion this place does it the best.
A lovely, bright and welcoming cafe. The staff are wonderful and the coffee is delicious. I would highly recommend this delightful local.

The chill-out C-spot. I love this place. When the Craigieburn train is a sardine can on the morning commute, I jump off at Kensington Station and work for an hour at the Luncheonette. The coffee is delish. The food is simple and well done. Prices are reasonable and the staff are delightful. Only things to be aware of - it's tiny and cash only.
I come here a lot for the coffee, which is always great. I've brought friends here, and they've all loved it. I've had the baked eggs (really yum), the waffles (really yum) and the sandwiches (again, yummy). I also love the pastries and the muffins. I think the prices are fair and reasonable considering they use quality fresh ingredients (some organic, free range eggs et cetera). And the service is great. Yes I have caught them out on really busy days, but they are always super chirpy and helpful. Me like a lot.

Love it!. Very cute set up, comfortable, relaxed, light environment in a great spot. Both the service and the food was great. The Ruben sandwich on Dench bread was awesome, and I'll definitely be going back for the maple baked beans, delicious!

Shhhhhh!. Keep this quiet!!! Great Sunday morning breakfast of baked eggs and chorizo and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Perfectly baked eggs which just quietly I cant seem to get right. Either undercooked white or squash ball yolks!! Chorizo was excellent quality and Dench bread and butter on the side to mop up the remnants. The scrambled eggs were also great. If I had a beef ...... the coffee was a touch on the bitter side. The menu here isn't extensive but what they do, they do very very well. As one of the other reviewers states it's cash only but there is an ATM 60 secs walk. See you next Sunday!

Great spot!. I agree about the decor - very cute little place. Had a delicious raspberry and white chocolate muffin, although find it strange they didn't offer to warm it up (especially as it was a rainy day!). They need to get glasses to serve lattes in, and mine came out a little burnt and bitter, but looking around at other's breakfasts I'll most certainly be back.
The decor is adorable, lots of vintage pieces to ogle whilst you wait for your breakfast and a cool old fashioned cash register. I've only started coming in here recently but the barista already remembers my drink! i can definitely recommend the baked eggs with chorizo (anything with chorizo is good though!) also the ham and brie sandwich on baguette is very tasty and my friend had the granola which she really liked (it came with stewed rhubarb...YUM!)
Nice menu that departs from the standard English breakfast fare. Food was beautifully executed and delicious. Staff were friendly if a bit amateurish at a few moments. Overall excellent but just a bit short of mind-blowing.
Going on the past. I loved this place last year but I'm sad to read Shirley's review. I loved their rare beef salad with candied walnuts and their baguettes with bread and pastries from Dench Bakers. (Although not sure about leaving the pastries out by the till for the flies to sample?)
Such a perfect little cafe. The food was of high quality, the coffee, well prepared Supreme blend, and the service was all class.
This place started out so well. The owner is personable and polite. Service has really slipped lately. There used to be a calm welcoming vibe. Now there is an Asian waitress with more attitude than Madonna. She is rude to customers and seems more interested in her own appearance than service. The food time takes too long, the coffee too slow 20 minutes wait. Portion size shrinking. I hope they improve this place as it has potential to survive, but poor service & long wait times are a killer. (coffee cups too small so as soon as you have finished your coffee you waited 20 minutes for you need to wait 20 mins more for a refil. If you can get their attention to order it!

food was amazing. I went for a lunch today in the premises and I have tried new menu with great options in affordable prices and I must say it was delicious specially middle eastern breakfast.i am very happy with the food but not the service. staff was quite, not welcoming and didn't came to the table after waiting for 15 min and I had to go inside for menus and drinks, but they were talking to each other. I could give 3 star rating for that but for the food only I have given 5 star. if they do amazing service I would love to come back often.

One of the best cafes in Melbourne. Their coffee was just fantastic. loved their southern fried chicken burger and would recommend everyone to try it once. The serving size is quite generous so make sure you starve yourself before going here.
Service is quite good too and the staff are very polite and friendly.
