Review Yabby Lake Vineyard - Moorooduc

Red Barker
Lovely vineyard offering spectacular views over the vines and lawn. Wine tasting was decent with a delicious sparkling rosé and 2014 late harvest chardonnay. Impressive and well worth the visit. Would definitely visit again.

One of the best places for lunch in Mornington Peninsula. The food here is fantastic, very good selection menu and wine list - best with their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It’s a beautiful spot on a hilltop, service is great too!

If you are into identifying, tasting and talking about fruits and berries tastes (Blackberry, Prune, Cherry, etc. etc.) and the types of soil and sunshine and slope aspect and marine air influence on the end product you are most definitely at the right spot. If you just like a quiet glass with your view, possibly not that much. We arrived at 11:30 on a Monday, restaurant was empty. We were told we can't have lunch because "we are fully booked". Had two glasses of wine on the lawn. I liked the wine (Shiraz, great taste). Left at 12:45, about 5 tables were free and not set (no serviettes or cutlery prepared for the booked guests as were the other tables). Don't understand why we were lied to by the Maitre d'. Was it my shorts and sandals? Would he have treated us the same if I booked online (where he can't discriminate against shorts)? Don't know. Great View and close to home. But probably will not visit again in a hurry.

We visited on Sunday and enjoyed the two course meal for $75 pp. 🍴Pumpkin + Gorgonzola Arancini 🍴Baked half shell Bass Straight Scallops with Chorizo Crumb 🍴Slow Roasted Salt Bush Lamb, Raisins, Olives and Preserved Lemon to share Tried the Rose, Pinot Noir and Syrah, all were delicious ! A beautiful idyllic venue for a relaxing lunch and some terrific wines. Service was lovely and views are gorgeous.

Lovely place to spend the afternoon! There are shaded spots away from the restaurant closer to the vineyard where you can recline and enjoy a bottle of wine. Came with friends and will bring my partner and family soon. Despite tastings being closed, they squeezed us in and we bought several bottles. Considerate service - waitresses were fantastic and one made a great pinot recommendation which we all liked. The cafe de Paris sauce was amaaazing. Lost a star as the scallops and dessert were just okay. The dried/crumbed chorizo didn’t come through very well.

Popped in today to buy the 2019 Estate Pinot after enjoying a bottle recently and decided to give the restaurant a try. Wow ! Thanks to the staff at Yabby Lake for the warm welcome, for being so friendly and delivering an excellent lunch service for my wife and I. Compliments also to the chef & kitchen staff as the food was exceptionally good and well beyond our expectations. Will be back with our family & friends again soon and thoroughly recommend both wine and food. Cheers John & Rommy

First visit here and a very impressive selection of wines on tasting. Fantastic location and will return to try the food here too.

We found this place only recently though we have lived in the Mornington Peninsula for some time now. What a great place if we didn't want to drive to a close by winery. We did wine tasting to start, followed by more wines with the cheese platter. They have fabulous wines there. Friendly staff, casual relaxed restaurant overlooking the vines. The lunch menu looks good, we will go back there again.

Very rude, unfriendly and unprofessional staff and management. I have never witnessed such rudeness at a restaurant and winery. No hot food and no children's menus allowed outside, even though they provide play equipment outside for children. I would not recommend Yabby Lake to anyone, especially to people that have children.

Our new favourite winery to visit with its spectacular views. Yummy comfort food and wood heater. Staff are so friendly. Perfect place to be on a cold winters day or sitting outside in the sun.

Lovely place for wine and food. Great views. Friendly, efficient staff, great wines and fantastic food.

We had a great day, my partner took a chance with not booking a table for us for Mother's Day. When we arrived, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They gave us a table, letting us know that it was book for another booking at 2.00pm. The food was great the kids menu was fairly healthy with home made sausage rolls. We shared a beautiful bottle of wine. After lunch we sat out side enjoying the views of the vineyard and the art works. Annabella had a play on the swings! Thank you for making my Mother's Day so special. Ps. Not all men can be organised so you accommodated us wonderfully.

Love this place! As always, cellar door was fantastic with knowledgeable and helpful staff and primo wines across the range. This was the first time we've dined in the restaurant and it was utter delight. Not cheap but absolutely worth it.

2nd time round and on both occasions very enjoyable experience. Menu is slightly limited but in saying that, quality is 1st class and enjoyed the lamb this time around. couple this with excellent down to earth service by Karen and team fire and great wine (Syrah) and 3 hours went buy very quickly.

Visited the winery & discovered fabulous wines thanks to welcoming staff at cellar door! Needed a restaurant voucher & bottle of bubbles for a surprise gift for a relative in the local area.........rang to organize & the fantastic Pat assisted me & also was so amazing that he dropped the gift off personally! Thank you so much & can’t wait to visit again!

A hidden treasure on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula. Food and wine is great. Yummo! Nice relaxing view from the cellar door.

On the 26th June we celebrated my husbands 90th birthday and our granddaughters 18th birthday at Yabby Lake Winery. The staff went out of their way to make this a wonderful day for us and all our guests. The food was excellent, as was the service. The wines were enjoyed by all, as was the ambience of the entire restaurant with its view over the vineyard and the occasional kangaroo hopping through the vines. We will definitely be putting it on our, 'go again' list, and soon.

Always a lovely place to visit! Great food, wine, staff and even an area for the kids to run!

Fantastic location, staff were warm & friendly, great service, food average & reasonable value. Home made Tirimisu was delicious.

Just moved to the area, my first winery down here. The staff excellent, the wine magnificent and the food out standing. Can't wait to take all my friends here.

Great place. Fabulous food and wine, lovely staff and art as well as being in the middle of a vineyard. What more could you want.

We celebrated our Dad's 70th and what a wonderful experience it was! From the friendly service, beautiful scenery and delicious food. Will definitely be back!!

We had a light lunch as a family in November 2019 and found it to be a comfortable place to be with children on a nice day. The fact it's not a large restaurant like many places on the peninsula and with outside options makes it even more appealing. We just had a salumi plate and enjoyed the wine and surrounds. The tasting bar is great. It was busy but big enough for the people there. Lawrence was great. There was another lady helping out who also seemed to be doing a fab job but I missed her name. Amelia made sure we had everything we needed. I look forward to going back when we have more time and having a proper meal as I feel like I've been teased with what I've experienced during our brief visit.

The food here was divine, had the salumi plate, the cheese board from the dessert menu and the chicken terrine. The plates were empty by the time we finished. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The wines are also very delicious. I love that the cellar door and restaurant are together, allowing you to try wine, take two steps, have a seat and enjoy a glass you already know will be good. 100% will return.

Busy even on a Tuesday so recommend booking. Food was really great, certainly not a cheap meal but nice size servings and beautifully presented. Did some wine tasting first to decide what to drink with lunch, the reds were better than the whites but the sparkling was also very nice. 8 of us on our table: 6 of us had entrees, no one had dessert (too full), 7 had coffee. Total $640. I’d say too pricey for every week but as a special occasion it was very nice, and the location is lovely too. Terrible weather on our visit but the fire was going so quite pleasant inside. Staff were very efficient and attentive.

Just enjoyed a lovely lunch here today. Had chicken terrine for starter and snapper fillet for main. Bitter chocolate mousse for dessert was a lovely way to end the meal. Great setting and good service....oh and the wines are pretty good also :)

Such a beautiful location and not packed unlike all the other restaurants in the Mornington. We only did wine tasting and personally I didn't really enjoy any of the wines but that's just me. The setting is perfect for a comfortable laid back lunch. It has this cottage feel to it which is super quaint.

Delicious food and wine. In particular the mushrooms - sooooo good. The brioche soaks up all the mushroom juice. Also loved the arancini balls.

Yabby Lake came highly recommended from the folk at the Merricks General Wine Store. Situated as one of the most northern wineres in the Mornington region, it makes an ideal final stop on the way back to Melbourne. The winery is Halliday 5 star, it produces some serious wines sourced from both its Mornington and Heathcote vineyards. There are plenty of standouts, the Yabby Lake Pinot Gris and the Syrah both stood out along with their Pinot Noir's.

Great venue way off the beat and track, came here today skipped mains went straight to dessert as we had been to another disappointing venue earlier we were told that this place was amazing and it didn't disappoint! We tried the tiramisu and panacotta and it was beautiful! Coffee ok, service attentive, I would be back to try the food for sure!

Beautiful vineyard! Try and come on a sunny day to enjoy the views. Lovely food and the wine is good too. This is coming from someone that doesn't like wine that much.

10/10 in every respect. Quaint and cosy ambience, proficient and friendly service, fabulous wine selection and stellar food. Definitely a must try Mornington Peninsula winery. After being guided through a wine tasting at the cellar door by the lovely Norelle, we sat down to lunch at a table overlooking the expansive vineyard next to the open fire. Beautiful views and perfect for a cold winters day! We ordered the warm olives to share as a starter followed by the confit duck leg with duck sausage and red cabbage, the fish pie and a side of green beans. Everything was exceptional. The wines on offer are great too ranging from sparkling to Syrah.

Gorgeous views, wonderful atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service. A classy and sophisticated venue for a lovely lunch. I picked the quail which was beautifully presented on the plate with a great balance of textures and flavours. The dessert special of the day was a spiced apricot bread and butter pudding, which was perfect for sharing on a cold winter's day. Prices are a bit on the higher side but this was expected for a winery restaurant and was a delightful weekend treat.

Turning 50 is a big thing. So it was with good fortune that my Mornington Peninsula-based family suggested Yabby Lake for lunch for our group of 9 on Saturday afternoon in mid-May, 2016. The whole experience was delightful.

Tucked away up a narrow road, the long drive winds its way through the vineyard to the top of the hill. Broad views out over Port Phillip are beautifully framed by the large windows. The venue reminds me of designer architect build of the 70s, but with a bit of recent slick and sensitive updating. I felt right at home.

The service is attentive, pleasant and timely. The Pink Claw Rose complimented the assortment of starters well. We shared Gorgonzola & kale arancini, the salumi board and chicken terrine which were delicious. Our boys very much enjoyed the homemade sausage roll and perfectly crisply roasted kipfler potatoes. Mains of porterhouse, pies, and salmon were washed down by the not to be missed 2013 Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Pinot Noir, which was a stand out.

Lunch can often be an endurance event and the desserts fade as the finish line approaches, but not in this case. The pannacotta was a delight and the choc tops, although simple were just right. I can't recommend Yabby Lake highly enough.

Absolutely stunning view you would think you're in Europe. Limited menu so opted for the steak. The steak was just alright a bit tough. Ideally, the menu would have a bit more variety.

Five years in Melbourne has seen me visit the Mornington Peninsula, just an hour from Melbourne and full of wineries, only three times. I’m ashamed, but I’m doing my best to rectify the situation. My third visit was to discover the Wine Food Farmgate trail as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and it has certainly whetted my appetite for more.

I have eaten at Yabby Lake a number of times over the years, and it used to be fantastic. Formerly they had a lovely menu linked to ChinChin, then changed to compete with other more quasi bistro type places.

Unfortunately they have headed downhill like a Slalom racer recently.

We had booked a table, upon arrival though they had my wife's name wrong and had given it away, so scurried to find another.

The menu is now so short that of the five mains, one is vegetarian, two fish and then a duck and a steak. Which quickly was reduced further as they had sold out of duck. Which is a disgrace when it's a long weekend and they were fully booked.
So if you we didn't feel like seafood then steak it was.

Our mains arrived in less than 15 minutes, which is almost fast foodesque, unfortunately it was before our entree, which had been forgotten.

At $36 one may expect a decent piece of meat, Yabby Lake was consistent on the day- both our steaks were similar to boot leather.

Needless to say, we won't be heading back.
Sad that what used to be a lovely spot has so fallen so far.

An amazing lunch at Yabby Lake Vineyard with two friends from the Gold Coast, sitting on the balcony overlooking the vines - it truly is a beautiful setting. The waitress that was serving our table was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. The highlight for for me was the local mussel hotpot, although all the dishes were of the higher standard. Well worth the drive and will definitely be back.

Had an amazing lunch here. Had scallops salad. The waitress warned it was a smaller dish which was perfect for me. Partner had risotto entree and we shared the most amazing potatoes cooked in duck fat. Had strawberry fritters for dessert. I have to say it was the perfect lunch, the quality of the food was amazing. Lovely setting too, and the service was fantastic.

Unhappy diner. Booked lunch for 6 people last weekend, wine fantastic, food poor quality, maybe a chef problem? we shared 2 platters to start with, no mozzarella available, goats cheese substituted, 3 tiny pieces, 1 dessertspoon of hommus and 4 olives , a tiny piece of tart, 3 small carrots, and 3 tiny beetroot, very uninteresting. main course arrived 3 of us ordered scallops, they arrived on rocket, 1 shaved piece of fennel and 4 mandarin slices, no dressing offered.4 scallops, not cooked properly, watery and raw in middle no flavour. waitress far from helpful, eventually offering to have them recooked! no suggestion of a fresh meal.
we spent $50 a head and went home very disappointed with the meal and the way our issue was dealt with, particularly as we had also spent $500 on wine purchases.

I visited this winery several weeks ago, the food is fantastic, I ordered the Spanish rice along with the saganaki. The single block Chardonnay is to die for and the service is pheomimal. and I also must mention upon my arrival I peered into the kitchen and noticed a handsome young man working and it really set the mood for a delightful day.

Not happy at all with service even before going to yabby lake. I made my table booking a week in advance for 12 people to celebrate my birthday. I booked the table outside and the lady said in case the weather is bad she will pop me on a waiting list for a table inside. I called a few days before to make sure everything was still ok and was told I was now unable to have my table because another table who was inside had said if it's a nice day they would like to sit outside. I spoke to the manager and she said that these people had booked before me so they had priority. She also said they knew these people would want to sit outside if the weather was good, so I asked why I was even able to book the outside table to begin with. No sufficient answer. The manager went on to rudely say they have priority and she wasn't going to argue with me. I cancelled my booking and will be taking my business elsewhere. Yabby lake obviously doesnt have the ability to organise and manage large group bookings effectively. Don't rely on them for any important occasion.

Had lunch here with the family today. Did a wine tasting to start and then had a few beautiful dishes to share between four of us. The portion sizes were very reasonable and the food was tremendous!
Service was great and very informative during the wine tasting. 10/10

“Age is just a number. It’s totally irrelevant unless, of course, you happen to be a bottle of wine.”

Our weekend started with lunch at Yabby Lake Vineyard, a winery founded by the Kirbys (the family behind Village Roadshow). Yabby Lake Vineyard’s main focus is pinot noir, with chardonnay and pinot gris following behind. In fact, their Block 1 Pinot Noir won the Jimmy Watson prize this year. There’s an adjoining cellar door and cafe, which is open every day for lunch except for Easter and Christmas. The cafe is in a lovely setting, overlooking the vines, and inside it’s light and relaxed. The food m
