Review Manow Thai Restaurant - Mordialloc

gjcc73
A non descript inside, with spacious layout. The table and chairs squeaked and wobbled but provided that authentic "back in Thailand" feel. Staff friendly and accomdating. Pad Thai - chicken, reportedly very good. Satay chicken skewers, little on the small side but tasty however not warm. Massamam chicken curry, one of the better ones I have had, but again not warm, let alone hot, bordering cold like towards the end. One star removed for cold food, but certainly would try again. Wait times for food, good.

Very impress about customer service.i have been many restaurants, but here there is diffirent experience!she takes care of all tables very carefully, ask how of everything...clear dishes on table when we finish them(which is most places don't do that:)...top up second bowl of crackers while we waiting for food(i already had one!) Foods are fresh.I have fried fish,it melt on my mouth. My hubby has pad thai, combination taste just perfect.definitely come back

The food is good and authentic Thai. There are two dining rooms. The interior is fancy the closest to entrance is simple and modest. If you don't have a reservation you may be seated in this one. The staff is very helpful. You can order online too.

Absolutely fantastic experience here at Manow Thai! Amazing staff who recommended the perfect dish, Honey Beef stir-fried with mixed vegetables in the most gorgeous sauce along with a fine glass of house Shiraz and freshly cooked prawn crackers topped off with the finest of dessert, Mango ice-cream :) thank you so very much for an incredible experience

We had Masaman Curry, Pad Thai, Thai beef salad and Chicken& Cashew. All the food was delicious. Highly recommended.

Be very careful of this place if you are Vegan, Vegetarian or Pescetarian! <br/><br/>The take away menu is written with 'V' for Vegetarian next to some items that are NOT vegetarian.<br/><br/>After recent discussions with Manow I have discovered that this actually means 'Vegetarian on request' and that these dishes will include fish sauce, shrimp paste and Oyster sauce if you don't specifically ask for the dish to be made without these items.  <br/><br/>They have no idea that this is misleading.  These menu items should be listed 'VOR' not 'V' and they do not know the difference between a vegan, vegetarian and pescetarian diet.  They told me 3 weeks ago that they would fix it on the menu but it's still the same so this is my warning to future patrons to be very careful of what you order from this place.

The ambiance leaves something to be desired but the food is delish! Asian green stir fry is my personal fav. Serves are generous we get take away regularly from here

Came here for a quiet dinner with my partner. When we entered the atmosphere didn’t seem very inviting. A little bleak, tiled floors and tacky writing in the windows.<br/><br/>HOWEVER.... the food was yummy!! We shared a hot plate, a curry and some delicious rice. The staff are lovely and helpful and we did enjoy our meal.<br/><br/>If the interior was lifted and revamped this restaurant could really stand out.

Had a lovely meal last night but one complaint was we got charged $12 corkage. Nothing on menu about corkage. Menu needs to be amended. Our friends bought their own beer and If that is the reason they should have spoken to us about it as we only bought one bottle of wine which was worth $15! Menu stayed BYO wine

Was really pleasantly surprised! The food was de-lish!! We ordered two curries with coconut rice and a few entrees, all was yummy!! Great little restaurant but try to avoid the toilet it’s a little frightening
Rae
Average food, cosy atmosphere, not taste like the typical Thai food I used to have, star anise was overused in my dish, I had seafood hotplate, where star anise shouldn't be even used!

I rarely leave food on the table but this time I couldn't do otherwise cause the risk of food poisoning was too high.<br/>How can you possibly serve food with tha smell without feeling ashamed ?<br/>The spring rolls are the same you buy frozen at Woolworth and you even ask $10 for them!<br/>I guess all it takes is a visit from a health inspector and you'll have to go on a long holiday...<br/>When I mentioned to the lady at the till I got told maybe I don't like Thai food , well I go to brown rice in edithvale at least once a month and I never experienced anything bad.<br/>Don't waste your money here.<br/>Food is bad and service even worst<br/>

The first review of my life , this was disgusting, never ever again , very disappointing, the beef was cold and acid ,the prawns were awful , and probably off , not an apology at all , very upsetting experience ....

Some of the best Thai I've had in ages. Their Pad See Ewe was full of flavour- just could halve done with a few more veggies in it. The Thai curry puffs were delicious, as was the golden bags.

Lived near this place for 7 years and used to eat-in and take-out fairly regularly in the early days.<br/><br/>Food was alright - tasty but always light on the protein. Green curry was my go to but it became more  about big cuts of veg and less meat over time. New owner came in and introduced some black/brown/white rice combo that you got by default. It was a ball of stodgy inedible starch that was the final straw for us. Haven't been back.<br/><br/>Now I can't even tell if the place is open anymore, there's no signage or branding, some of the windows look boarded up. People seem to be coming and going though, but I won't be one of them.

Really disappointing. What's really annoying is that restaurants like this can think they can pull the wool over people and try and deceive them. Food is not up to quality. Really nothing they serve is Thai food, other than then the fact they use coconut milk. Bad.

Please read this before considering going here. <br/><br/>We arrived, ordered a glass of Oyster Bay and got straight into the menu with anticipation. <br/><br/>Located the satay prawns and asked the waiter where the prawns are from and we were told they are frozen in from Malaysia. <br/><br/>This makes me so dam CROSS. 😡<br/><br/>We are one of the largest islands on the planet with the freshest seafood and yet we are being served frozen prawns flown or shipped in from a country that is polluted and without any food quality regulations and we are charged significantly for it. <br/><br/>I settled for honey beef. It was average at best and it didn't take long for me to politely edge the bowl away after realising that this meat could have more passport stamps than I do. <br/><br/>Also, be warned at night if you need to go to the bathroom. It is located in the complex but outside the restaurant. It looks like a public toilet, is dimly lit and I didn't feel safe. <br/>I wouldn't recommend women visit the bathroom alone at night. <br/><br/>My advice is "don't be afraid to ask restaurants where their produce comes from before ordering (or even booking) and make your choice at your own risk from there." <br/>"It's your right to ask these questions for a range of reasons but most importantly for your health."<br/><br/>Overall summary is that I would not recommend you eat here.

Absolutely love this place and it is our go to take away. Always reliable and quick service and have never been disappointed with a meal. The beef massman is a must!<br/>

"Nothing to write home about here apart from poor value for money."<br/><br/>Placing the order was reasonably easy and done over the phone.<br/><br/>Being avid Thai food fans we were expecting a lot based on previous reviews. <br/><br/>We ordered 4 dishes which came to $50.60. <br/><br/>When we got home we were quite disappointed with the quantity of food and for $50 we could have easily had something more fulfilling somewhere else.<br/>My wife even asked if the portions were large so that we could order more if needed - not that we are big eaters but what we came home with would hardly satisfy a young family of three.<br/><br/>The food was ok, I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of food.<br/><br/>Note: Take away rating is based on two bits of criteria.<br/><br/>Rating out of 5 (5 being the highest):<br/>Food – 3<br/>Ambience – N/A<br/>Presentation – N/A<br/>Service – 3<br/>Environment – N/A

I think the food here is really tasty. The staff have always been really friendly. I order from here regularly and I'm never disappointed! My mum eats here often with her friends too! :)

Friendly, relaxed, good value. They have quickly become our local Thai restaurant. Friendly staff, good with our kids. Food is great. Kids LOVE the mango chicken.

Restaurant looks a little dodgy but the food was quite surprising and is fairy cheap in cost. Wouldn't rush back but would eat there again.

Our local Thai is amazing, so lucky to have it in Mordialloc.<br/>Staff are great & food is really traditional.<br/>Decor is quirky which always gives you something to look at. <br/>Take away is a better option than delivery, but we understand that ;)<br/>Very quick to server a full table & attention to detail is fantastic.

Great service and food. The spicy dishes are very spicy! I had a great roast duck salad. Lots of meat. Building a bit tired but don't be put off by that...

Best Thai ever!. I have tried many dishes at Manow Thai but I always go back to the Red Duck curry please don't ever take this off the menu I love it!! Everything is fantastic you have to try it! It's a must!

Best Thai Food in Melbourne. Had the mixed seafood & Masaman Curry. Both were excellent and the service was good.

Quality over quantity?. Long wait and small serves for when ordering takeaway. Also paid for an item we didn't get and were not very impressed.
Rebecca.goodear
Great food but only eat in!. Manow has some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten. Their Panang Lamb Curry and Chicken Cashew are beautiful dishes. However, do not get takeaway!! The takeaway dishes are only half full and they do not give enough roti bread. Even called them up one time to explain the issue and they were dismissive!
Lisad972
Great food. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was good. It was noisy when the restaurant was full (but it was a Saturday night) but was really impressed with the food and will definitely go back!
Scottie
Greatfood but the noise in the place. Found the service and food top class but when its full its very very noise place. would still go back.
Louise
Disgusting. Worst Thai i have ever been to. Once our food finally came out, it was bland and so small for the price. I ordered chicken with cashew nuts but there wasn't any cashew nuts and hardly any chicken! A friend ordered a curry which was a bowl of curry with a few potatoes and a very small portion of chicken. For the price they charge it would be nice to have something to eat! Wont be going back!

Would not go back. Food was good but service was terrible. Then very soon after eating was asked to leave so they could close. this was 10pm at night so not particularly late for a Friday. Obviously customers are just a pain to these people.

Absolute delicious !
Helen
Really nice food. Sometimes we eat in and other times get takeaway. I like the entrées and mains but they are not big on desserts. The special fried rice is lovely and the sizzling beef goes well with this.

Should have tried it earlier!. We recently tried Manow Thai after driving past it many times over the years. We should have tried it earlier. The food was delicious & fresh, the service friendly & attentive and the atmosphere was very peaceful.

Love the food here! Have tried both eat in and take away, all food I've had so far here is delicious, can't wait to try more dishes. Service was a bit slow but I didn't mind. Had a very enjoyable night here and will come again soon. Prices are reasonable.

Not Up To Standard. On Saturday night a group of 4 of us went to Manow Thai and would not go again, couldn't get any service had to get wait staffs attention to order dinner and drinks even the bill. Spring Rolls tasted like they had come from a supermarket the steamed rice was very sticky the lamb dish would have been lovely if it had a little more lamb in it. Overall a very dissappointing dinner very noisy with children running around. Lots more good Thai restaurants in the surrounding suburbs so will happily go elsewhere.
Five Star
Good. Only had takeaway. Mostly good dishes, stick with green curries always good not brilliant.

Really like it at menow close to home and great pad Thai :)
Nick
Yum. The food here is very good. Spring rolls were delicious and fresh (I could see them being made in the kitchen!), and the pad thai was really tasty too. Having been to Thailand I was happy to taste the authentic flavours in their green curry which went well with the coconut rice. Service was excellent and attentive, even though the restaurant was quite busy. I will be back!
Gigi
Delicious food! Was served prawn crackers on arrival. Ordered spring rolls and pad see ewe. Both were really, really tasty. Had the fried ice cream for dessert which was also delicious. After the completion of our meal, we were served a bowl of grapes which was a nice touch. Service was good and fast. Would definitely eat here again!
BigAl
Truly awful. Worst Thai food I have ever had. Pandan chicken was burnt to the core, spring rolls looked like they came from an Aldi value pack, ginger fish was like rubber and covered in ginger flavour goo! But the place was packed amazingly. The Tom Yam soup came in egg cup size bowl and was too sweet and not at all spicy. Disappointing, will not go again.

This place is tucked away unnoticed and offers a fine dining experience. The staff are fantastic and are perfectly polite. The food is amazing, the prawn dishes are my favorite, they are the highest of quality and so succulent every time. Very reasonably priced for such high quality service and food. A+++++++++

Consistently delicious!. I eat at Manow Thai on a regular basis and have tried most of the menu items - all of which are amazing!<br/><br/>The friendly staff and speedy service also make for a lovely dining experience.

Average food experience. Dropped in for a weekend meal. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Ordered a fresh coconut which was lovely. The sweet chilli fish was disappointing - tasted like frozen fish that had been fried. It was served on a bed of green salad & the flesh was really tough to eat. The sweet chilli flavour was so overpowering and reminded me of sweet chilli sauce that had been poured over the fried fish. My friend ordered red tofu curry and said it was average. The coconut rice was an interesting rougher texture. Don't think we will be going back in a hurry.

Shared a variety of dishes.Great tasting food, reasonably priced, friendly staff.

Delicious..... We had the$26 banquet , everything was delicious , some of the best Thai I have had !<br/>We ordered the roti bread with peanut sauce as an extra , wow that sauce is to die for !!!<br/>I would defiantly recommend this restaurant .... Btw it's not a "romantic" place as they advertise , but still very nice :)
Beachlover
Delicious! :). Over the years I have had A LOT of Thai food from many different restaurants but this one stands out! Great prices, lovely service and the food is SO SO good. Would defiantly recommend and always crave some Pad Gra Pow Tofu :) Takeaway is equally as good as have in so either way can enjoy!

Good group dining. Dined with a big group and nothing was a problem.<br/>Decent local Thai, byo wine, all usual suspects but done well.<br/>Not worth crossing town but locals should visit

Take away is great but eating in is just on another level! Decor not that fancy but my gosh the food is! Highly recommend!
Claire
Delicious food. My friends and I often have catch up dinners at Manow Thai the food is delicious a little over priced but won't stop me from going back! The yellow curry is amazing!!

I ordered take away and was pleased with my choice of masaman curry and fragrant rice. The home made peanut sauce accompanying the roti was delicious. I found their telephone manner to be clear and concise, my food was hot and ready for me when I arrived. I am very happy to have found a great Thai restaurant in my neighbourhood.
Jacky
Good environment, presentation, friendly staff. Food taste alright, green curry not hot enough.
Chilli Con Incarnate
Order the Yellow Curry. Order it! Enough said.
Victoria Spicer-Stuart
Great food. Manow Thai has an amazing array of dishes and everything tastes great from the to-die-for coconut rice, to the many, many stir fries and curies on offer. Food is reasonably priced, waiting staff friendly and to top it off, they even deliver.
I Like Good Food
Never again. As "dave October 20, 2010" mentioned, I agree.<br/>this restaurant is consistently bad. If the food is not bad, its horrible.<br/>after my last experience there (similar to daves, except the rice was just as bad.) I will not be going back... a waste of $50.... had to get food from somewhere else!!<br/>WIll not recommend to anyone.

Great Thai food!!. Don't judge a book by it's cover really applies to this place! We arrived for dinner on Saturday night and the place was empty however it wasn't long before the place was full and they were turning people away. Our group of 6 decided to have the Banquet C which was a great choice. There was plenty of food with great flavors. This was our first time eating at Manow Thai but it will not be long before we return again. Loved it!

Best thai in this area
Ree Ash
Great food. Always fresh. Thai green curry is one of the best I've had in a long time.
Lauren
Manow has consistently good food. Their meals have a great mix of flavour and are of a resionable price. Although their staff are lovely their English is sometimes very hard to understand and you may have to repeat your order a couple of times slowly. I would have to say this is one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to however they dont have much in the way of deserts. A great place to treat the taste buds.
DJ
Best Thai in the bay area. Beautiful fresh food. <br/><br/>Great, friendly service. <br/><br/>Couldn't ask any more :)
Dave
No good. Ordered takeaway via phone on a Friday night. The order took approximately 15 minutes longer than they estimated over the phone, which is fine, but I'm a patient person and love good Thai. <br/><br/>The real problem started when we got home however. We only had to open the Pad Thai to know there was something wrong with it. The odor was odd, musty, smelt kind of like old, damp carpet. The taste was actually a little worse. The lemon grass prawn dish was maybe a little better, but can't really judge, as even though the pad thai was now in another room, the taste was still in our memory. We did however enjoy the coconut rice, and promptly threw the other wasted dishes in the bin.<br/><br/>Not recommended, I actually haven't eaten Thai since.

Don't judge a book by it's cover! This restaurant is my fav local spot, with a wonderful menu, devine presentation and the most polite and pleasing service! Reccomend the Thai Salad, Massaman curry, pad Thai and the Tom Pak Soup. This rare gem is not too noisy or crowded so you can hold a good conversation, and this is a place where your glass of water will always be half full! Love it!
