Review Oscars Hangout - Mordialloc

My sister took me there today as a park nearby for young children. Cafe set in a lovely tree setting with some beautiful birds chirping. Big serves of breakfast and lunch. Banana bread yummy but the muffins are fantastic. Only seating outside currently. Nice coffee and friendly staff. Worth a visit.

Oscars Hangout is a wonderful place to have a function. I have been attending functions there for many years and most recently had one myself. The atmosphere was great and the staff were amazing! Highly recommend

Fantastic neighbourhood hidden gem. Service is fast, efficient and friendly, and dishes are well above regular café standard. Can highly recommend.

A great hidden treasure! Great service and excellent breakfast! I've tried the corn fritters, fruit toast and bacon and egg roll. All excellent. Plenty of room for prams and families and lovely grassy area for picnic style dining when the weather is sunny.

What a lovely little hidden place to get in a late Sunday breaky at. Came upon Oscar's after being turned down at two nearby locations that were packed with a breakfast crowd. Admittedly, we were being cheeky to think we could get a look in. Fluffiest pancakes ever with a generous amount of maple bacon and all the trimmings. Eggs Benedict with pork was perfectly cooked. And the Apple cider hollandaise was on point for tartness and deliciousness. Hash Brown stack! Amazing crunch and and paired with avo and haloumi was just magic. Staff were lovely and warm and the food came out nice and fast and looked and tasted superb. Even when we had a bit of a milk jug spill at our table they were quick to come and clean up our mess and dismissed any apologies from us. So nice! Will definitely be back. Thanks Oscar's Hangout.

Very good menu and wine list. Nice atmosphere and friendly staf.

Nice stop for breakfast and coffee with the Dogs! Staff was lovely. Doggies got a puppichinio each. Locals would love this joint.

Normally go to a cafe on the main drag of Mordialloc, however, I thought I’d try something different. Oscars Hangout is located in the backstreets of Mordialloc surrounded by residential properties. The place wasn’t overly busy when I arrived (~11am) but they did have a constant stream of people. Very kid friendly place as they have colouring and games. Also, there’s a large grassed area outside. <br/>We just came here for drinks, but the menu did have some good options. Also, it didn’t seem overpriced. <br/>The service was the main issue. Weren’t greeted upon arriving and it took roughly 10 minutes for them to acknowledge our presence.

With a new bub on board, we’ve made it a weekly routine to head out every Tuesday for coffee and a quick bite to eat. Finding somewhere that can accommodate more than one pram has been a bit of a mission, but have been able to find some amazing places with great food. Today’s catch up was at Oscar’s Hangout, which is is a great little neighbourhood gem situated around gorgeous houses in Mordialloc.

Cool place and pretty child friendly. As soon as we sat down they instantly gave us some pencils and a colouring book for this kids. Coffees were good and we ordered the big breakfast and hashbrown dish. The place is homely and waitstaff are attentive.

Very nice homely feel, situated in a residential area in Mordialloc. Great atmosphere<br/>Food was very tasty. Great brunch spot! I will be back

Came here for breakfast, coffee was great. Ordered beer battered fish and chips delicious. Nice atmosphere. Wouldn't have noticed this place on the street without the sign.

Hhhmmm, first time here, friendly (if not quick) service.<br/>Had the Vietnamese Roll - very basic slaw, pretty average pork belly and standard focaccia style roll. Not bad, not great. I expected more for $16, especially when you can get an awesome  bahn mi 5 minutes away for $6.50.<br/>Coffee was good, setting is nice.<br/>I'd come back for another try if the food was better value.

Avoid this place!! Took 15 minutes for the waiter to bring out our menu, another 15 minutes to place order. Waited half an hour for Our drink orders, waiter looked surprised when we asked if our drinks were coming. Waited an hour for our food. The place was not that busy at the time. Can't imagine what the waiting time would be at busy times.<br/>I ordered what they said on the menu "world's best chips" - more like supermarket brand frozen chips. It stated on the menu the chips served with aioli and tomato sauce, we were not given aioli sauce.<br/>My husband had poached eggs- the yolk were not runny. What a waste of our time and money.<br/>Theres a much better cafe around the corner- Hendriks on White Street or Warrens cafe in Parkdale.

Great little venue. Had a little Engagement party here. Finger food was fantastic. Plenty of food and very reasonable prices. Also have a guy who comes and sings for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. Excellent atmosphere. If you live in the area support your local little venues you will be pleasantly surprised with the food and service

We visited Oscar's today and the food was fantastic, the waiter Ben was amazing , he was polite , attentive and made our dining experience a memorable one.

I was super keen for brunch and wanted to check out something new, so i did some googling and found this place. Its in a great little location in the middle of the burbs, small cafe, plenty of parking with a good little menu selection. Now I believe they are open every day except for Monday for breakfast and lunch, very unsure about dinner but they must some evening because they had spirits behind the bar and there was so advertisement for a cocktail night! I was there at around midday and there were three other small tables also dining. The waitress brought out some water and gave us a moment to take a look over the menu.

Cute little hidden cafe in the suburban streets of mordiallic. The outdoor dining decor was gorgeous but unfortunately when you walk inside it doesn't give off that same vibe with cheaper tables and chairs instead of that continued rustic wooden vibe. I ordered the crushed peas breakfast which was supposed to come out with avocado but instead was forgotten and had to be brought out on the side after questioning the dish. I've also had better poached eggs in my time so that could be improved on. The mint should be incorporated in the dish instead of just having the leaves on the side. The hash browns breakfast were also ordered for the table and that was well enjoyed!! Staff were friendly just minor details that could be improved on.

It came highly recommend and we see why. Easily the best local cafe for a quality brunch session! Easy parking access and great range on the menu...

This Cafe ticks every box, it's food prices are great the staff are friendly. The place has parking and plenty of outdoor seating + the meals are well portioned. Keep up the great effort...

This cafe is small & cosy. It overlooks a park and is both dog and kid friendly. Plenty of parking and is quiet as is set off the main road, Came here for a friends birthday party. The staff were nice and friendly. The coffee was lovely. I had roast chicken with gravy and vegetables. It was also delicious.

Had heard about this place and thought we'd check it out. Really glad we did. It was beyond expectations. Had breakfast and we were blown away. Not just the food. Here's what we love in a cafe - great coffee - tick, friendly service - tick, room to read a paper - tick, relaxed atmosphere- tick (it overlooks a park and is away from the road so it's quiet). To our delight the food was even better. I had the hallmark brekkie- hash browns homemade, eggs, avo, tomatoes all cooked to perfection. Hubby had pancakes with berries (loved the big chunk of honeycomb on top!). Creative, thoughtful and well balanced. Clearly an excellent chef. Guess what? We went back next day for lunch!! Best chicken schnitzel I've had in a long time. Yummy chips too. Hubby had the falafel which he loved. Think this is going to be a regular for us!

With a good rating and many positive reviews I was looking forward to eating here with friends.  I was very quickly disappointed.  I walked through the door to a near empty room which ruined all attempts at a cosy hangout.  We were there on a Sunday and weren't really in a hurry but after waiting 30 minutes for drinks, we checked in with staff and the waitress with a blank look on her face had to come back three times as she couldn't remember what we had ordered.  The menu did not have any GF options marked (so frustrating) and when I asked the waitress what my options were, her answer did not fill me with confidence that she even knew what GF was.  After waiting an agonising hour for our food, the only word that come to mind is bland. I wouldn't eat there again.

Stumbled upon this place as a backup option as Hendricks cafe was closed, trusty Zomato to the rescue at the last minute, showing this venue with the same rating only two roads away.<br/><br/>A nice cosy little venue with both indoor and outdoor seating and a small bar/countertop at the front which looks like it transforms into a bar at night. <br/><br/>We ordered the lamb souvlaki, the chicken focaccia and the "worlds best" chips as they claim along with an iced coffee and a fresh pineapple juice.<br/><br/><br/>The service here was a bit slow, we were seated before another couple yet their orders were taken and served way before we were even given menus.<br/><br/>The food took a good 45mins to come out but was really nice! The souvlaki was a little runny from the sauce as it was dripping a lot and had a little bit of a bitter taste by the end however the meat was cooked really well. The chicken focaccia was absolutely amazing, with a huge crumbed chicken breast that was cooked to perfection as it was tender and moist which most smaller cafes get wrong! I also must say the chips were really good and on par with some pro chippery's. The chips had a very similar look, crunch and taste to Schnitz chips and are a must if you are visiting this cafe.<br/><br/>Although service was slow, the male waiter who served us was very pleasant and friendly which made the whole experience a lot better. <br/><br/>A tucked away little cafe amongst the houses in Mordi! <br/><br/>
Food For Thought
I did a little research on this place since I have been here a few times now and found out the head chef has won quite a few awards, the food here is fantastic.<br/>Shame about the front staff...... every time I've been here they seem as though they are doing you a favor to serve you.

First time here and decided to have the $15 lunch special. Such good value ! Good variety on the menu also on offer. Had Thai fish cakes, glass of wine and a coffee. Was pursuaded into another cup by the nice waiter and was as tasty as the first ! I'll be spreading the word on Oscars Hangout.<br/><br/><br/>-----11 May, 2015-----<br/><br/>Beautiful way to spend our Mother's Day. Was greeted with smiles, coffee was delicious and meals were quick and really tasty. There were 12 of us and everyone loved it. Thank you to the staff for making my Mother's Day so special. We'll be coming back for sure.

Poor customer service. Waited the food for nearly an hour, poor customer service although i would say the food is quite good. <br/>The food has to be out within 7-10 minutes as a rule in restaurants.<br/>Piece of advise, if you get your customer service right this restaurant has a big potential. <br/>Just get competent waiters and waitresses and competent staff in the kitchen. <br/>Very good chef...thanks.

I write this post with a small degree of reservation. Why? Because Oscar’s Hangout is quite small, and I’d be really pissed off if I turned up for dinner and it was full of people who read this blog. So if you are going, try to go when I’m not there. OK? Oscar’s Hangout is plonked in the middle of suburban Mordialloc, no where near the Mordy strip or any other commercial establishments. It is cafe-style food – open for breakfast and lunch all week and dinner on Friday and Saturday night. There was no dish on the tapas menu that was not enjoyed by out group of 6. The food was a tad slow coming out, but certainly worth the wait. Is the food the most outstanding you’ll find anywhere in Melbourne? No, probably not. But it’s damn good, and a welcome find in the Bayside culinary wasteland. And they have White Rabbits, which rates an extra vote.
A Critics Guide
Poor experience. Service was poor at Oscars. It took a long time to be greeted with menus by the waiter and even longer for breakfast orders to arrive. We were a table of 3 on a quite morning and waited an hour for our meals to arrive. Once they did they proved to be cold and unenjoyable as though they had been sitting for too long so that they could all be bought out at the same time. kitchen staff may need to improve time management skills in order to produce meals that are palatable.<br/>Food concepts were unique but quality was poor.

Walked in, walked right out. My fiancé and I went to Oscar's Hangout excited for breakfast a few Saturdays ago and were very encouraged by all the positive reviews for this place. However, upon arrival we were terribly disappointed by the awful service and atmosphere. When we walked in, there was a couple having drinks in the courtyard and about 4 staff working behind the counter. Most of the tables and chairs, both inside and out, were stacked up to the side. I would be more understanding had the sign outside NOT said "We're Open" but it did. When we walked in, the feeling that we weren't wanted there completely overwhelmed me. Staff glanced at us and went back to what they were doing without greeting. We had to walk all the way up to the counter at the back of this very, very small restaurant (they could have very easily said hello without even raising their voices) to get some attention. Once there, we were asked what we wanted without the offer of a menu or a table by an extremely rude waiter who promptly disappeared out the back after he pointed to a couple of tables outside. We then had to ASK for a menu so understandably, by the time I had to pull up my own chair from the stack of chairs outside I realised, despite all the rave reviews and being very hungry, I'd lost my appetite. Like I said, I would be very understanding had they not been open for service and we were intruding (as I felt we were) but the sign outside very clearly said they were open. Maybe I should have gone at a different time, maybe not? I didn't even try the food, nor will I ever be going back.

My wife and I just dropped into Oscars Hangout for a quick bite to eat and a drink after work, these would have to be the best chips around and a really friendly service, we will definitely be comig back. Love the setting!!!!

Birthday party. Brad - Just wanted to thank you and your staff for making the birthday party in October such a special event! The food was amazing and everyone, adults and kids, enjoyed the nibbles very much. The kids had so much fun playing outside and the venue worked out perfectly. We couldn't have asked for a better place to hold such an important event for us!<br/>Thank you for going out of your way to accommodate us! We really appreciate it.

My food was nice, but we waited an hour for our food, and as it was a work lunch the majority of us had to cancel our after lunch meetings. Had to rush eating, won't be back,
Chelle
This place is fantastic. The owners Brad and Carly have managed to balance a kid friendly place with some of the highest quality meals I've ever had. <br/><br/>We also asked them to cater my husband birthday recently and the Aranchini balls we an absolute hit!
Tanya
My favourite restaurant, best service, best food and nicest owners! Try the haloumi salad!

Coffee is great here!. I was in on Sunday, the café was nice and cosy. A group of us ordered breakfast and coffees and it was quick and delicious. Coffee was one of the best I've had for a very long time. Well done guys.

Excellent. A great local hangout, everything about the food is sensational, highly recommend.

Great little cafe, ideal for kids with lots of space to run around outside. Good food and friendly service. Set back from the road - just look for the car park and it's in the corner.

Kaye. It was just ok for evening meal. Thee are plenty of other places to go in Mordialloc / Parkdale to eat.

Over hyped. Pros: <br/>1 - Quick service.<br/>2 - Ideal for prams and kids (with park and outdoor grassy play area available)<br/>3 - Easy parking<br/>4 - Good coffee. <br/>5 - Food arrived quickly. <br/><br/>Cons:<br/>1 - Staff did not seem attentive to the cleanliness of the place with food particles and napkins strewn under tables. We had arrived during a very very quiet period as there was only one other table occupied yet the place felt unkempt. <br/>2 - Disappointing food. We ordered the big breakfast and the whole dish was just poorly put together. The spinach looked like and tasted like it was micro waved frozen spinach. It was dry and very very bland. The bread was not buttered not was butter provided. They obviously assumed that the eggs would be the sauce but my sunny side up eggs were too overcooked to provide a good sauce base for the bread. <br/>No ketchup, salt or pepper was offered. The Sausage was sliced in half to look like more was offered. The mushroom was too big and they should have used a smaller variety. For $20 this was a big letdown. There was nothing that stood out about this dish. <br/>3 - there was a cake/dessert display cabinet which was turned off with nothing inside. Considering that we went during lunchtime on a Saturday, this was a big surprise. <br/><br/>I must have ordered the wrong thing on the menu as most people claim that their food is great. However, I'm unwilling to give it a go again as there was nothing to draw me back.
Catherine
Yummy, well cooked breakfast. We will be back!!!
Adam
Great food, awesome service. The team at Oscar's are more then capable to cater for Gluten Free :)
Mark S
Great suburban cafe. This is a great little suburban cafe - good for lunch. We had foccacia - the BALT was bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato and it was very good. The chips were excellent and the coffee was good. Certainly worth a visit if you live or work in Mordialloc. I recommend it.

Mordi's hidden gem. Brad and Carly, Oscar's owners, have become a welcome part of the Mordialloc community. Oscar's is a great place to call in for a coffee, drink or meal with it's relaxed, casual environment and child friendly attitude. The kids love going just as much as the adults!! Brad has a modern attitude with his meals and is always coming up with fresh ideas to bring people in.<br/>Oscar's recently catered for our wedding and I could not fault their customer service from the planning stage to the night where the food and professional service were exceptional, all at a very reasonable price.<br/>Oscar's are very accommodating and flexible in their approach, and this has been reflected in my dealings with them for our wedding as well as other functions.<br/>I would highly recommend using Oscars for a meal or to cater for your next function.
Meetuthere
Weird set up. Definitely not the place to go if you enjoy a buzzing cafe atmosphere.
Mike
Catered Function. I just had Oscars Hangout cater my bucks party. We gave them a budget to work to and everything was sorted; Beer, spirits and food. This included a massive pig on the spit. The boys were happy, I was happy. A job very well done.
Foodlover12
We expected more, the staff member who was looking after us had no idea, wiped the table with his hand, no cutlery with our food. My focaccia came out wrong. Cold place, needs heating. it could be a quiet nice little place to eat & drink but needs improvement.
Joe Blow
Wow, what a find. Fantastic, nicely presented dishes. <br/>The pork belly is exquisite. <br/><br/>Will be back!

Great place to party.... We had our little girl's 1st birthday party at Oscar's and it was fantastic!!! <br/>They were very accommodating, there was a great audio-visual setup, brilliant food, excellent service!! Couldn't ask for anything more!!
Kerry Ashford
Wow what a treat!!. Highly recommend Oscars Hangout - family friendly, great food, great service, great atmosphere - a quaint delight.<br/><br/>The experience for Mother's day lunch was so good, look forward to going again. <br/><br/>Thanks to Carly & Brad - and the friendly staff of Oscars Hangout

A little short of perfection. Hard to fing passed the place 3 times i think hey need a sign on the main road .we a platters to start had far to much dip and vey little bread and over priced at $35.00 followed by fish and chips good fish but only about 10 chips, asian pork belly and wong tongs deep fried . Overall portion are small on the mains and a little pricey for the location serivce was a little slow only 1 waiting sfaff . But hay if you dont try you dont know !!!!
Paul C
Read the positive reviews and gave it a try. Staff were friendly but unnatentive. Had to ask for everything, no proactiveness. Had the trio of dips which was OK, then the lamb tortillas which were underwhelming. Tried the pork belly and was disappointed. Very dry. It wasn't crispy.we won't go back.
Bayside Foodie
What a great find!. Absolutely beautiful food - and the staff fantastic. Went there for dinner and had several of the main dishes in tapas style. Highly recommend it all but pork belly was the favourite. Kid friendly, and in a nice quiet location. Good value. Can't wait to go for breakfast!
Dan Guilmartin
Nice little spot hidden away, service is great, food took a while but well worth the wait, will definitely go back.
Karen Billing
Brad and His team were fabulous for my partners 40th birthday cocktail party. Food was sensational and very reasonably priced plus we had the place to ourselves with our choice of music and decorations. Intimate and classy :)

A-Mazing. We had a relative come over from France and we decided to take him out for a nice breaky.<br/>It was a great choice selecting “Oscar’s Hangout”.<br/>Being Celiac I was happy to have the choice of gluten free breakfast and to have toast that did NOT taste like cardboard as many gluten free products do.<br/>The food was lip smacking and the service was wonderful.<br/>It was a beautiful way to start the day. <br/>We were proud to see that our overseas guest was thrilled with his meal and the atmosphere of the fun and cosy café.<br/>Being a local in Mordialloc we have added Oscars to the top of our list of places to go. And will definitely be returning for more delectable food.<br/>Well done to the staff and terrific owners of Mordialloc’s newest and remarkable café!

Dinner Review. We love Oscar's, it's now our local hangout. Brad is fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. The food and wine are great. The home made dips are gorgeous and we love the lamb taco's. They do a delicious breakfast as well. A great place to go for a relaxed meal whilst the kids run around on a grassy area. A rare find to have a true family friendly dining experience.
B_boy
Finally a dog and family friendly cafe. Had breakfast at oscar's this morning. Great atmosphere with relaxed tunes and attentive wait staff. Right next door to a large park, oscar's is accomodating and puppy and child friendly. It is great to find somewhere with a modern vibe, great food, modorately priced and able to cater to the needs of a modern family.

My fiancé and I randomly decided to go somewhere never been before so we decided to try oscars hangout. The service was great, the wait staff were very attentive from the moment we walked in. The food was lovely. We shared the pork belly and the chickpea and falafel balls(yum!) we then shared the marinated half chicken and the pumpkin salad. To top it off we shared some macaroons and hot chocolate. Definetly recommend!

Thank you to Brad & Carly & all the staff at Oscars Hangout for catering our engagement party saturday night. You all did a fantastic job. The food looked great & it tasted even better especially the mini burgers yum. We will definitely use you for another function. Thanks :)

Little weird! Good food but!

Lunch. 10 for lunch - all with little ones. the lay out was great - noisey so we all fitted in well - the food was great, when it finally arrived, 40 minutes between the first on our table being served & the last - seems a little odd. We all agreed we would come again, shame the service was so slow but good setting.
Webs
Catering. I recently turned 40 and had Brad and Josh cater for 33 people for a 2 course sit down dinner. Only because my sister in law made the cake for dessert so we didn't need 3 courses. We had a mezze style entree with beautiful meats, cheeses, breads, salmon ect. For main I wanted a salmon and eye fillet dish which were cooked to perfection. The service from brad and josh was both friendly and professional ( as they served the wine, cleared plates ect) and cooked it all.<br/>I was able to relax and entertain in my own home with only the left over glasses to clean. What more can you ask for.
Yum
Delicious. Went there for a work lunch and was amazed by the great service and delicious food. We will be back again I'm sure

Consistent High Standard. I keep going back to Oscar's Hangout, and so do my family and friends. Number one is the food - they have so many other amazing attributes but let's face it, without delish food you wouldn't keep coming back so eagerly and frequently. But there's is so much more to this place than the food. The owners Brad and Carly have created a "hangout" - a place that is friendly with a community focus. A place where family can bring their kids - and the kids have space to amuse themselves, which makes it relaxing for the adults. A place that is welcoming.<br/><br/>We've always experienced great food, service with a smile and have been served in a timely manner. Anyone who loves good food and a relaxed friendly environment will love this place!!!
Stuart
Oscars is a welcoming place with the friendliest of owners and their coffee is awesome. Compared to the fish and chip place it once was, it has come along in leaps and bounds without losing its appeal . Keep up the good work guys. Oh and yes do try the pork belly amazing
Lyn D
Great local hangout. Have been to this great cafe many times..brekkie, lunch & dinner & have never been disappointed. Love it when they have special days/nights just for fun or to support a charity. Great place, great food and run by a lovely couple.
Teresa
I can't say enough about the food at Oscars. We had arancini balls, squid & pork belly (pork belly to die for). We lashed out and got dessert each. Sensational brownie & sticky date pudding. We can honestly say it was some of the best food in the area. We will tell our friends and family about this place. U must try it, u won't be dissapointed
Catherine Charles-Brown
I've been here a couple of times for a snack. The foccacias are really, really good - I've tried the chicken and the BLAT and they are good value at $10. The antipasto platter is also nice with a glass of wine. The breakfast menu is good although I didn't expect to pay $20 for the big breakfast (even $19 would make me happier... I don't like my breakfast dishes to start with a 2!). The coffee is adequate - personally I like the milk to be textured a bit more so you get that lovely velvet texture... But overall, this place is terrific for a light meal in a nice, quiet park setting. I'll go back again to try the pizza.
Happyj
A hidden gem. Oscar's Hangout is tucked away in Epsom Park and you need to know where you're going to find it - but it's definitely worth the effort! There is excellent parking so if you aren't lucky enough to be able to walk there its still easily accessible. Its very family friendly with kids being able to play outside and welcome inside. <br/>There is a range of seating options with a couple of large comfy sofas and both inside and outside seating. Its particularly lovely to be able to sit outside and not to be next to the road but to have grass and trees and a really pleasant environment. <br/>The food is excellent! There is both a regular menu and daily specials (with daily set menus that include a glass of wine which are exceptionally good value). I'm working my way through the menu but so far have fallen in love with the roasted beetroot and feta pizza and the calamari; the breakfasts are all good and the antipasto platter with fabulous chips is an easy early supper with a glass of bubbly. The fact that Oscar's Hangout is licensed is just one of the many plus points.<br/>A must visit for any one who appreciates great food and great service.

Relax and Enjoy. What would we do without Oscar's! Just a short walk away, Oscar's has great food, great atmosphere, and my children love it. I have many favourite dishes but must mention the Thai prawns, chicken salad, antipasti platters and of course the "best chips in town". My children love the homemade chicken nuggets, fantastic fish & chips and the 'best milkshakes in town'. The food is always fresh and delicious. As a family we love Oscar's because of the package deal....great food, relaxing surrounds overlooking a grassed area where our children can ride their bikes and enjoy the outdoors, plus the friendly, welcoming owners and staff. Honestly, what more could you want.....oh, yes, the wine is superb too. Enjoy.
Emma
So Yummy.. My family and I are regular customers of Oscar's hangout. I have pretty much tried everything on the menu and I can honestly say it has all been so delicious. The gnocchi is the best I have ever eaten and their chips are to die for. Aside from the food it is such a child friendly place which is a must for us when dining out. There is a great big grassy area for the kids to run around, they always have so much fun. I have taken many friends here and they have all been very impressed. The owners are just so lovely and create such a nice welcoming feel to it. I am sure you will love this place as much as I do.
Mike
Amazing function venue. As other reviewers have pointed out, the food and service at Oscar's is superb, and if you take your family there for a meal you won't be disappointed. It's also worth mentioning that Oscar's is a great venue for a function.<br/><br/>I recently organised my work Christmas party there. My staff though "what the hell? where are we?" However, several hours later the combination of amazing food, great service and live music had won them all over. It's been unanimously voted our best party ever.<br/><br/>I'm overseas at the moment, but I can't wait to get back for a decent coffee.
P's Bottomless Pit
Its my hangout too!. What a great new addition to the Bayside foodie scene! while places like Parkers and Main street seem to be flagging, Oscar's never disappoints.<br/>My dining partner and I not afraid to over order, started with some calamari beautifully tender with great crunchy coating.<br/>We had a divine roasted beetroot, candied walnut and fetta salad, dusted with a little dukkah. (which i later tried to recreate on Christmas Day, close but not close enough)<br/>We had the amazing pork belly which I have had before and simply cannot pass up everytime I go. Squashy porky cubes of joy :)<br/>And reccomended to us by the wonderful host was the lamb koftas, which were served with a lovely yoghurt dressing and some of the best cous-cous ive ever eaten (it actually had flavour and lots of it!)<br/>and lastly but by no means least plate of perfectly cooked asparagus spears drizzled with truffle oil and some cured porky bits was so tasty I wish I wasnt sharing. Maybe next time I wont....

Great food ( pork belly is to die for) great hosts & just a nice place to sit with a coffee. Family friendly

Local delight. We have also found this gem in our local area.<br/>What a pleasure to be able to walk to a local cafe/restaurant and be able to just have a coffee and the home made treats the Brownies were to die for.<br/>We have also been there for breakfast and loved the selection I tried Oscars Big Breakfast and the good wife who is very particular with her eggs had the poached eggs with the smoked salmon and was not disappointed.<br/>We had a table of 8 people so the friendly staff member suggested we had shared plates for the table, our favourites were the squid & arancini balls.<br/>Cant wait to go back.
Mholm
We've been here for breaky and had the most relaxing morning sitting outside in the sun. Food is really yummy and great value. Very friendly service and it has the best coffee around. Will definitely make this place our new regular.
Susieq
Lovely and local. I have dined at Oscars several times, for brekky and lunch. Lucky for me, its local and I can walk there. The food was a pleasant surprise and I love the quiet location, surrounded by a few shady trees and grass. My favorite dish is the squid but breakfast was also yummy and filling, with good coffee.<br/>Oscars is family friendly and also a good place to stop for a coffee if you are out walking your dog.

A hidden gem ! Clever thinking !. I thought the task of looking for bayside dinner venue different from a 'done up pub' such as the Beaumaris & Mentone Hotels was going to be a waste of time.... how wrong could I be.<br/><br/>The old faithfuls were considered and crossed off as I realised I needed something different and somewhere we had not been before.<br/><br/>Oscars Hangout is set in the old Epsom racing estate and even has some history of the old 'tote' building being attached to the new address. Its not difficult to find but its not where you would go looking for a very nice dinner venue.<br/><br/>A quiet setting in a small parkland area and amongst the new homes, easy to park and not far from home for so many who may like a couple of drinks. I can see how the morning latte crew would like the idea of watching kids running around on the grass outside whilst they catch up with the girls as well as how it would be a great local to have brekky at on the weekends..... for us it was dinner.<br/><br/>We chose sharing plates and tapas style as that allowed us try various parts of the menu. <br/><br/>We tried various items on the menu with clear winners being arincini balls for both of us, my wife voting for the chilli prawns and me the pork belly .<br/><br/>I would compare the quality of the food to restaurants I have visited in the CBD and throughout South Melbourne, advantages being the locality and without the higher price tag. Our dinner came in around $90 for meals and a couple of glasses of wine.<br/><br/>The decor is simple but neat and I am sure the owners will continue to add other elements.<br/><br/>This place is a monty on a balmy summer night, ask for a table outside under the stars.
