Great location in Mornington as it is down a large laneyway off Main Street. So you can sit outside and enjoy the food without having the noise of Main Street.
I have dined at Blackbird cafe several times and it never disappoints. The cafe is usually busy but often you can find a table. Both indoor and outdoor seating available. The menu is Turkish inspired with vegetarian and vegan options. I recommend the smashed avocado - very fresh, tasty and filling. The menu is also reasonably priced compared to other cafes on Main Street.
Smooth coffee together with home made cakes makes this cafe a standout. Will be again

On multi day out to Mornington this end of the week, my mum and sister and I, chose to attempt some place extraordinary. We discovered the Black Bird Cafe essentially in light of the fact that we were searching for an approach to break through to the principle road. Thank heavens!! It was extraordinary. In any case, the champion for us was the administration. Extraordinary. Well beyond. These folks conveyed the best administration I've ever had from a bistro. Well done folks!
It was the long weekend and my partner and I decided to have breakfast in Mornington. We came across this lovely cafe with extremely polite staff. We were well taken care of despite the large number of people. There were so many choices for food. Loved my food and cake. Really made my day! Would definitely return :)
We took our father for afternoon tea at Blackbird Café on Saturday afternoon (18th August) while he was on leave from hospital.The staff couldn't be more accommodating or friendly. Nothing was too much trouble & the food was divine.The service was so good we went back on Sunday for brunch. The staff informed us that they were quite happy to make alterations to the menu & remembered how we liked our hot beverages. Again, we were not disappointed.Thank you to all the staff at Blackbird Café, you made a very special time for me even more memorable.

Friendliest staff always delicious food. Reasonably priced for massive portions. Have tried just about everything on the menu but the eggs florentine or the ricotta pancakes usually go down well.
Great cafe. Brought my family to Mornington and stopped in for lunch. The steak sandwich was huge but also tasty, good quality and steak cooked to perfection. The lamb burger was also Yum. The cakes are amazing and the service is excellent!
One of my go-to cafes in Mornington for brunch. Everytime I go with my partner, we go for the beef burek and steak sandwich. Both dishes are the definition of perfection! Their breakfast menu perhaps needs a little more work but if you like simple, then it might be for you. The staff are attentive and on a nice sunny day, it's lovely to be outside in front of the cafe. Coffee is good too!
Staff are really welcoming here. Great vibe and cosy ambience. Was craving scones and got them - hot, fresh, homemade with their jam and cream. We also had the French toast, bananas, maple syrup and bacon. Lots of classics on the menu. The coffee was great and hot choc amazing. On the side, a little piece of homemade banana cake. A nice find at the corner section of the street.
Best coffee and homemade cakes ever!! The staff are extremely friendly and are always very accommodating with my toddler. Would highly recommend!!
Went to Blackbird cafe for brunch - delicious. Very helpful and friendly staff - the young man who served us was cheerful, and when my mum said she wasn't very hungry, he suggested smaller items (cakes, apple crumble). She had the homemade apple, rhubarb and strawberry crumble, which was apparently delicious, my brother had wedges (hard to go wrong there, but there was plenty of sauce), and I had baked eggs. Great food, and reasonable pricing. Will be going back.
Service was good, slow just because it was a public holiday, food is very reasonably priced with the amount you get. Very filling and would go again. Chai latte was absolutely delicious 👌🏻
Extensive menu with almost too many great choices to choose from! We had the florentine, big breakfat, lamb burger and quinoa salad with lattes to finish. Everything was cooked beautifully and was served quickly. The cafe itself is relatively small however there is ample outdoor seating, all staff were very efficient which was good as the place was packed on a public holiday.
Only criticism was that the big breakfast while very big only contained one very small tomato which I consider a vital part of a breakfast. This however was balanced by the perfectly toasted thick slices of sourdough and the well cooked bacon.
I have to say we wait almost for 30 mins for a cup of water and another 30 mins for our order . But it was a holiday season & peak hour . They serves really yum ricotta pancake and so does other dishes. No wonder it's always crowed.
Having been here for brekkie a few times before, I knew what to expect.
I come here for the French Toast breakfast - plenty of bacon (not too crispy) with 2 thick cut slices, banana, and plenty of maple syrup. My only criticism - not enough banana ( I could tell straight away that it was going to fail the complete mouthful of everything ratio test)! Still, it was very nice.
So you might wonder why the 3.5 - the staff were friendly enough but could have been friendlier, and the position of the cafe isn't great being on a side road with views of a brick wall. Still, if a good French Toast is your thing, you won't go far wrong here.

Huge breakfast. Looking around Mornington this morning for a place to eat and stopped at Blackbird. Great staff, friendly atmosphere. Ordered a big Breakfast and could not finish it.

FABULOUS AND FRIENDLY. Enjoyed a fabulous breakfast of French toast with maple syrup, crispy bacon and bananas at Blackbirds. The food was delicious, well priced and the service was outstanding, so much so that I went back the following day for a traditional breakfast. I highly recommend this place!!!
Great breakfast have been a couple of times now, can't go past the pancakes, they're amazing!! The only thing missing from this place is some high chairs for the little ones.
Having never visited mornington before, we visited late on a Sunday. Staff were welcoming, accommodating of our 6yo son, beautiful and quick coffee, assistance with the menu, recommendations for the menu, delicious baked eggs and the lamb burger is huge! Yes it's a bit pricey, but yum!
I had lunch there with a friend and it excellent.
I had the steak sandwich which was amazing and very big.
The staff were very nice and helpful by giving recommendations and making sure our needs were met.
I will definetly be having lunch there again soon
We went to this cafe for the first time on the 16th of February for our fathers 83rd birthday. The food was lovely the staff we attentive and the price was very reasonable. We provided a cake which they very kindly brought out plates and forks for without hassle. They came out with sparklers on the cake and the entire cafe stood up and joined in singing happy birthday to dad. It was a lovely touch and I think it was one of the happiest birthday lunches dad has ever had. Thank you to all the owners and staff for not only providing quality food and coffee but for making us feel loved and welcome. I will definitely be coming back.
We've been in Mornington on holidays and haven't found anywhere better to eat. Service has been amazing, even with the busy holiday crowd. Trying something different every time and haven't been disappointed yet. Highly recommend you check this place out!

Good coffee and food but the service was very slow for brunch. I like the idea of having blankets available for those sitting outside to boost capacity on cold days, but a couple of extra staff might have been helpful too
As a fellow hospitality worker, it's great to go somewhere where the staff not only obviously enjoy their job, but are also good at it.
Meal proportions are more than generous, and taste as good as they look (ricotta pancakes are my personal fave).
The only "negative" I can see, is, as a barista by trade, the coffees aren't hot enough.
All in all, definitely worth a look

Weekend sampling. We are from Melbourne and came here for breakfast on good recommendation. We had the eggs florentine and pancakes, both of which were good, but not exceptional. Service was prompt and friendly, coffee was tasty and hot. We'd go back again - reading books from their quaint collection was a highlight.
Good food for their price. It was good, I had red lentil soup. It came with a side of two toasted slices of kebab bread. I also ordered chai latte (with a cube of madeira cake) and apple juice. Definitely go back second time.
Lunch time. We had a very nice casual lunch yesterday at this pleasant cafe just off the main street of Mornington. There is a wall of mostly recipe books to browse while waiting for the meal.
Evelyn had the warm chicken salad ( aioli and reduced vinegar dressings on the side). There was a good serving of nicely grilled chicken breast on a good salad. I had the lamb burger on roasted vegetables. There was a lot of really nice vegies and tomato on a Turkish bun. The lamb burger was pleasantly herbed and very moist. A nice place for lunch. Thy have a large outdoor eating area on the mall and easy parking very close. Recommended by us.
Welcome BBC!. What a great new addition to the Mornington cafes.. to which there are really none that appeal anymore. This one however is pretty dang good and a table in the sun, a latte and cooked breakfast with a smile... just something we thought we would not again find in this town. Lets hope this stays like this.
Huge portions and the food is all yummy! Great variety with new dishes popping up daily. The staff are very accommodating with changes to the menu and I find the whole experience wonderful. I am a loyal customer and will continue to support these people. Very satisfied.

Soooooo GOOD!. My top three favorite picks are:
1. The steak sandwich. It comes with carmelized onion and beetroot relish. Has the best flavour combination!
2. Veggie Burek. Similar to a lasagna, but made with turkish hand-rolled pastry instead of noodles.
3. French Toast. I had never eaten bacon with french toast prior to this, but its a new must have!
The food is great, portion sizes won't leave you wanting more, the coffee is amazing, and the atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming.
