Review Kirks Bistro - Mornington

Michael White
Thankfully Covid Lockdowns appear to be in our past so we ventured to Kirks and were not disappointed. Friendly staff, great view of the bay, wonderful atmosphere and food to die for. The meals were huge, including the Seniors meals (a bargain @$21) Hint: Go the Roast of the Day, magnificent!

The staff were friendly Great view of the beach front The meal was very nice! Sweet potato fries & the calamari was perfectly cooked and tender! 😋😋
Geara
Food was good and the staff where really nice and patient with our group.

Five star service, food is delicious, awesome views, and they have a carpark at the back so you won't have to stress finding carpark in busy festive season! The only minor thing is the Risotto / Pasta needs a little bit more acidity.
Kenny
Been here a few times, food is always delicious. The kilpatrick oysters are great, calamari is always super soft and the chilli mussels are awesome! 8/10.

Great family dining place. Restaurant was really busy on a Saturday night when I visited, but service was fairly quick. Food tasted great, good portion, drinks were well-priced. Would definitely visit again when I'm down the Peninsula area.

In Mornington for a family holiday. Had to try and find a great seafood platter for my dad who is all about the fresh seafood. Red the reviews and took him to kirks. He was amazed that a pub like place could offer such fresh and great quality seafood! It was well cooked and super fresh! It was a platter for two but he had it to himself! All of our food came out super quick and was so yum. Definitely recommend Kirks!

I go out for dinner when the Australian Welsh quoir sing here on Wednesday nights . The place is packed out and the meals served up are FANTASTIC. Great atmosphere with the old fellows singing. Sometime the whole restaurant are singing.. the staff do an amazing job keeping the meals and drinks coming. Great night out at the pub.

A reservation set for 7pm on Australia Day seemed pleasant and exciting, amazing beach front views and a gorgeous set up in the hotel restaurant. Soon to be let down by the poor service and quality of food. We waited 1.5 hours for our food to be served, after enquiring multiple times and watching everyone around us enjoy their meals and leave, with new diners coming in and out as well. The manager negotiated and decided to provide all drinks on the house which was nice but we were starving at this point. When the food came out I was disappointed. My porterhouse steak which I asked to be cooked medium-rare, was tough and chewy and not enjoyable to eat at all, as well as a lack of flavour or seasoning. Not to mention majority of the small piece was predominantly fat and not meat. The salad was bland and chips soggy. A friend whom I was with at the time found a hair in her pizza. A full refund was provided for this meal but nothing can compensate her loss of appetite and the poor experience we had.

Dined x 2 of us Sat p.m. i enjoyed the Thai Beef Salad, basic but very tasty (sour, sweet & spicy) perfect marinade combo. Friend enjoyed Eye Fillet (bit pricy though). Staff very nice & friendly. Prices too high as just a pub/restuarant, it is about the food, views nice - yes, renos recently done (last few years). BUT overpriced, the specials boards was MORE expensive them the menu, weird ??? 🤔

What a perfect day to sit at a table with a great view of the marine traffic on Port Phillip Bay. Kirks on the Esplanade is quite a large establishment offering an extensive menu and refreshingly friendly and helpful staff. We opted for a seafood adventure which we considered good value. We discovered later, according to the menu, battered scallops feature on the seafood sampler dish however they were absent on our plate!  What a pity as we love scallops  …  what happened to the scallops folks?
John Gardiner
My god! Not only is it a nice scenery along the beach overlooking Port Phillip Bay, it has a vast menu. Had the Kirk's Seafood Plate. Didnt regret it. The fellow beside me on the other table got his just before me and I started to get nervous. The plate was huge. I should have taken a photo but I was hangry. Could easily share this plate between two but decided to be a glutton. Two pieces of flake, two oysters naturale, 3 battered prawns, 2 big prawns prepared ready to be devoured, S&P calamari (generous amount), chips and salad with dipping sauces. For less than a note, I cant really complain. Happy chappy!

No nonsense pub with a beautiful view and a great variety of food options on their menu. Nothing to write home about, but the food was prepared perfectly and the beers were cold. Made for the perfect stop on the way home to Melbourne.
Jessica Saunders
One word - disappointing. The dips were $23.90 and the worst we have ever had. Better dips can be purchased at a supermarket. And to fill the plate, there was a garden salad on the side. We planned on ordering mains after the dips but very thankful we started with dips only as we were shocked at the quality and definitely did not go on to order mains. <br/><br/>The 1.5 stars is because the St Hubert’s Pinot Noir was on the menu and the beer was cold.

Today, I organised a group of 52 to have lunch at Kirks on the Esplanade.  Every staff member was co operative and courteous that it made my job as Organiser easy.  Everyone enjoyed their meals together with the desert and great coffee.  Could not thank the staff enough.  This is not fine dining but enjoyable meals done simply and very reasonably priced, offering many choices.  The pork roast with vegetables and the porterhouse steak received high recommendations.  This place has good views of the bay and it is modern and clean.    Would not hesitate coming back again or recommending to any group.  Well done - the team work here is terrific and organised.

Food: excellent - great price, generous portions.<br/>Service: excellent - very friendly, energetic and prompt, but no table service.<br/>Ambience: excellent - bright, busy and noisy, but not chaotic. Million dollar view! Family friendly, without children annoying other patrons.<br/>Highly recommended, better than the place next door!

Not only does Kirks on the Esplanade have sensational food and great wine selection it is their wonderful friendly staff that makes dining here so much more special.... they really go that extra mile, even when you mess up your booking as I had. We were also lucky enough to have a birdseye view of the sun setting on the water. We are regular patrons of Kirks, it is always a great experience.<br/>Robyn <br/>Mt Martha<br/>

We ventured to this hotel/pub style restaurant while still on hols… and by hols I mean in the deepest midst of never-ending unpacked boxes. I mean, when your kitchen stuff is God knows where, you really can’t cook up a meal, right? Especially when your potential dine-out view is something like this:

We dropped in here for a quick bite to eat. The menu covers a great selection of food and the service was very hospitable. Definitely be back again.

Barb O'Connor <br/>It a very good meal and the services is good and I would recommend it to everyone I will return again. <br/>Thanks to all the staff 👌😘

Didn't have the food, but a great spot for a drink during the day. Light and airy, near the beach. Service was noticeable more friendly and helpful than most places. -1 point for pokies though 😡

Originally booked Arthurs at Arthurs Seat for lunch for four. They rang while en route to say they had to close due to electricity supply problems. Rang Kirks to see if we could get a table at the last minute and fortunately they could help. Could not fault the attitude of staff (genuine friendly and knowledgeable), the table (Table 45 looking out onto bay),  the menu, the meals. Their careful attention to allergy requirements was excellent and gave great confidence. I would certainly go out of my way to return.
Desisean
A great find! I am not sure why they aren't rated at least a 3.6. They have an extensive menu and beautiful views overlooking the ocean. The food that we ordered was great - grilled seafood platter for 2 (which came with a bottle of wine), chicken avocado and fettuccini carbonara. Large servings and tasty food. I personally had to add salt, but that is understandable as they are trying to cater for people who don't love salt as much as I do. The bill came to $160. If you have a seniors card, they offer 10% off on Mon-Fri.

I had no idea that food like this still existed - even the local RSL does a better job with their food than this joint.<br/><br/>Appallingly overpriced food with no imagination and inept execution. Every piece of seafood on my seafood grill was overcooked and devoid of seasoning. The chips were soggy and the tartare sauce was the consistency of jelly - clearly scooped out of some cheap plastic tub. It was like something from a backward pub in the middle of nowhere, except that it cost $35.<br/><br/>No one enjoyed their meal and the consensus around the table was 'below average'. The service was also lacking - we went to the bar only to discover that the staff had allowed a stranger to put their drinks on our tab. WTH?!<br/><br/>Steer clear and spend your hard earned cash elsewhere - fish & chips on the beach would be far more cost-effective & no doubt of a far higher caliber that the rubbish served here. <br/>
Peter
Magnificent meals all round. We had lamb shanks, pasta carbonara and seafood platter and all were beautiful. Very tasty and fresh. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Brunchlover
A quality pub/bistro that rarely disappoints. The view overlooking the bay certainly helps, with a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Meals are generous & usually delivered to the table fairly quickly. I can recommend the chicken parmagiana as well as the seafood mixed grill with barramundi. We've also shared a veggie pizza & soup on a cold afternoon which both went down a treat. Much better than the royal next door in my opinion.

My family and I visited Kirks on Monday for lunch and they where extremely busy. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our meals but when the food did arrive it was quite delicious. Some food on the menu is quite expensive and what's the deal with 5 oysters or 10, what ever happened to half dozen or dozen? I must say even thou we had to wait a while for our lunch the nice lady Joy gave us a free round of drinks which was much appreciated.
Laura Bath
We go to Kirks regularly and are rarely disappointed. It has a lovely atmosphere - the giant glass windows, right next to the beach and with the fireplace - it is very bright and welcoming. Bread rolls always provided upon ordering. The food is always tasty but yesterday's lunch was a particular highlight. From the specials board, lobster and prawn ravioli with roquette, capers and red onion. Some may feel it was too oily but I thought it suited the dish very well otherwise it might risk being too dry. Not huge but certainly substantial. Very juicy and flavoursome. Always happy to go back.
Melanie
Recently had the misfortune of dining at Kirks. We purchased two meals , both costing well over $30 each. Mine according their website was : Chicken Scallopini (GF) $35.90<br/><br/>"Pan fried chicken tenderloins in a creamy white wine sauce with baby spinach & semi-dried tomatoes served on a house-made potato rosti." Sounds delish doesn't it? Shame that the creamy wine sauce was utterly tasteless and greasy and devoid of any actual wine flavour, the chicken tenderloins were full of gristle, the baby spinach dissolved into oblivion and the four semi dried tomatoes were not semi dried, they were petrified . Asked by the waitress if my meals was nice I explained to her that it was quite bad and that I couldn't eat it, she didn't seem to know what to do but left telling me she would have a word with the kitchen....never heard from her again. My father ordered the Chicken Avocado which turned out to be veal and according to him was like boot leather. This bistro used to be lovely, with great food, friendly staff and a well looked after building yet on my recent visit I was surprised by the state of the place ; grubby ripped seats, tatty tables, a strange smell wafting up from somewhere? and a bar chocker block with dirty coffee cups and glasses, how twee. The more I looked around at my surrounds the dirtier it appeared, a big slop of dried on food was present on one of the nearby chairs, nothing like giving a good impression, not. Kirks is resting very precariously on a reputation built on a standard it no longer possesses, if it keeps going on its current downward trajectory it will slide into utter mediocrity. I won't be returning in a hurry, better off going to the Tanti or The Dava, much cheaper food and a nicer ambience. One positive is the hotel's location and beautiful view, it is in the best spot in Mornington, just clean the windows!
Amanda
I was a bit skeptical about coming here due to the rating and some reviews.. but im glad I did! We came for lunch and ordered the Calamari. It was quite busy but the service was fantastic, got our food in no time at all and it was delicious. Staff were very friendly! Would definitely come back. Plus the view.. amazing!
Cassandra Reitano
My partner and I ate here tonight and were blown away by the service, the view and the food! We had a table out the front, and had excellent service from an attendant named Daniel (I think). Scotch Fillets and Creamy Mash were perfect, Cremè Brulee was to die for, and you were very efficient with catering for my dietary needs. The only slight issue we had was that it took over half an hour for our meal to come, but you were busy so it's understandible and was worth the wait. We are on holiday and searched for many restaurants before we chose you - and we are so happy we did. It was well worth the forty minute drive, and we will most definitely be back! Thank you
Geraint Gardner
Well what a disappointment. Don't come here if your in a hurry. 40 minutes for an entree and 1 hour for a main. For god sake we only had Kilpatrick Oysters that were over cooked, Lamb Souvlaki pizza that was soggy and the meat had an odd taste as I'd say it comes out of the fridge then placed on pizza and a prawn salad however this was nice hence the 2 stars. Customer service was rude when ordering with a male at counter and no table service. The place is not full and I can see why as the Royal across the road was packed.
Foodie
Have had lunch here and food and service was great but on returning for breakfast I found it to be the opposite. <br/>Sausages were dreadful as they were dry and the toast was burnt and cold.<br/>Service was average this time as the waitress forgot to return after our coffee order to take our breakfast order which meant the time the meals came out we had no hot drinks.<br/>Consistency is important!!!<br/>
Nikki
Great food and friendly service and then there's the fantastic view! We had the oysters which were fresh and delicious, wood fired pizza which was as it should be, great and the chicken Parma was also really good. I was to full to have dessert but I will definitely be back to try the creme brûlée!
Tara
I gave up having a vegetarian meal as I didn't think any (or, rather, neither as there were only two) of the options sounded appealing. Instead, I had the chicken and mushroom risotto. <br/>The serving was disappointingly small and the quality was the kind that, you know, you might appreciate as a meal from Coles' 'Feed for family for less than $10' on a lazy evening. But not the kind you want to pay $30 for. <br/><br/>The decor of the place was ruined by big bright light board advertising themed nights that made it feel more like a mix of a pokies and a train station.
Andrew Jones
I love it here the view is awesome and the seafood is delicious!<br/>Ok I love the wine as well couldn't recomend more! Great for families and catch ups.
Luke
Good portion sizes but over priced and good service.Good location, which helps make the atmosphere very vibrant. Also has gaming facility for 18+.
Favecin
You're really paying for the view here so get a table close to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The mains are expensive for what you get, decent food but not worth the price which are upwards of $35 for ordinary pub food. Go along the Main Street for the same and it would be serious $10 less. Nevertheless, the view is lovely and service efficient. Very busy with groups and families.
Ryan Carter
Food, atmosphere, setting,,service outstanding<br/>Roxy the manageress is sincere and awesome<br/><br/>Kids meals came out straight away, menu choices are abundant<br/>Highly recommended

Had a friends birthday dinner at Kirks over the long weekend, the group all ordered a mixture of dishes which were all good, we had the chicken caesar salad and mixed grill seafood mains with a chocolate mousse to share! The food was good and reasonably priced, the mousse was very rich but well worth the $12<br/>The waitresses were fun and friendly too!<br/>
Karl.askew
Ok overpriced. 1 beer 3 lemonades 25dollars... worse than the tax office for taking a pound of flesh...
Yvette.b
Our family quite often comes here for gatherings such as birthdays - despite the mixed reviews that appear below, we've never had a bad experience! The staff have always been friendly and the food is pretty much as good as you'd expect and kind of 'bistro-style' food to taste.<br/><br/>The only thing I will say is that they seriously need to renovate the bathrooms - they aren't in the best state.<br/><br/>Aside from that, no complaints here!
Seclissold
Diner from Sydney. On our last night in the peninsula we dined at the Kirk. We both ordered scotch fillet steak with chips and salad. How disappointing! It was mass produced food with an expensive price tag of $37 each. The chips were soft, probably cooked an age before and left, the salad was limp with unripe tomatoes and the sauce on the steak pretty awful. The meat itself was fine. If I had paid $15 well my loss but $37 for that was shocking. Pub food is usually good but not this time!
Greg Vercoe
Very disappointing.. Had a wonderful meal 6 months ago but this time it was very poor. Steak was thin and fatty with a watery sauce and a side of bland, flavourless vegies and half cooked chips. Spent over $60 and left hungry.
Katherine
Okay, but over-priced. Went here for dinner with a group of friends, restaurant itself was very clean and the service was great - we never had to ask for more water and plates were promptly cleared.<br/>The food however, was nice, but completely overpriced for what it was. It was enjoyable, but certainly not worth the over-inflated price tags that came with it. For what you pay, the quality and serving size of the food definitely needs increasing.
Mitchyoung6
Awesome place. Great food and service with a great atmosphere. I highly recommend a night out here with family and friends

Great Lunch on a rainy day. We had travelled down to Mornington for the weekend, the weather itself was very miserable so we decided to beat it by going to Kirks to watch it roll over the bay. We had such an enjoyable time, being a Sunday it was quite busy, and while the wait time on the meals did start to drag out, the manager on duty came down and explained this and apologised for the delay. The staff were all very accommodating and any requests were followed through quickly. The food was lovely, and more than plenty in terms of portion sizes. All in all it was a great experience and we will definately be heading back next time we are in the area.

3 strikes and they're out!. What where we thinking when we gave Kirk's a third try. It must be the nice setting and nice view that brings us back, but we won't be fooled by that again. The food is getting worse. Very ordinary food and very high prices. The flake (was it really flake, we're not convinced it was) were like little sponges of oil. The garlic pizza is plain...what ever happened to some great garlic bread? ...and the seafood mixed grill (with plum sauce????) was a mix of frozen seafood thingys thrown on a grill for a minute or two....$33.00 for that...they're kidding themselves! The bar service is usually lacking, but the girls in the bistro do their best. We won't be going back.
Rain_trip
Fantastic. We went to kirks on Sunday and had a lovely experience the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be heading back soon
Matahari
Dissapointed. Wasted $36 f.... Dissapointed. <br/>Wasted $36 for a dry, bland and tasteless lamb chops. Not worthed. <br/>Great view tho.

Great Views not the chews. This newly refurbished beautiful Lady on the Bay has a lovely fresh new interior and a great outside casual Bar right at the front of the establishment with views of the water and eye candy in the form of joggers ,Male and Female depending on your persuasion.<br/>However the food part did not hit the mark for us.We found it to be the usual suspects Pub food with nothing to "dine in on or dine out on".Pricey family food is the only way we could describe it,generous serves but lacking in imagination.A good wine list although, heavily marked up prices. We think that unless the Chef lifts his game ,word will get out that it,s not worth a return visit.
Steve
Went for lunch today with my family as we have many weekends and I have to say the place is going down hill and fast I can see there are new staff everywhere and this would be fine but no one knows what's going on and they seems stressed and some a little bit rude which I didn't like, and the food has change and not for the better, would have complained but there was no one to around to complain to. Sad as it's a place I've loved to go for so long, but after today I'll be searching for a new place to go.
SarahG
Our meals took an hour to arrive, yes they where busy but why have so many tables if you can keep up with the orders? <br/>once we did get our meals we all felt they where overpriced and the seafood was not fresh it was fresh frozen or deep fried. Disappointing we won't be back
Alex
If you want to wait the food more than 1.5 hours please come to this place! I don't like it!
Donna Swedosh
Great dining experience. What a wonderful experience. It is so rare today to experience genuine, caring service. The food was great, but the service provision by all staff we encountered was the best I have encountered in the past 5 years. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend a meal at Kirks!
Roger Ramjet
Fantastic setting and delicious food. Even though the wait staff mucked up our meals, the manager handled the situation really well by promptly apologising and offering us a replacement meal right away with a free $30 voucher on top of that for our next visit.<br/>Food however was really really good! Wait staff was crap though... None of them ever seemed to smile. Overall will definatly go back but hoping for better seevice
Margo
Went the on the weekend just gone where do I start? Firstly the atmosphere was good, the place looks really nice, and the view is amazing, so I thought it was going to be something special. But the food was a let down my meal was bland, and my husbands was not much better. And for the cost I was happy to pay it till I got my meal. And lastly the staff, they were really hit or miss. I'd consider retraining a few staff and supervisors. Would probably go back again but only for a drink!!!
M Soso
Okay well we loved the atmosphere but spent $85.00 on the special seafood platter for 2 & it was bad. there was no flavour, obviously frozen for a very long time. prawns completely flavourless. crab had no meat in it. if the seafood isnt fresh dont serve it & certainly dont serve it with the expensive price tag! reluctant to ever go there again.
Roy
Just popped in for a beer. Great views of the bay. Friendly, efficient service. Didn't eat here, but menu looked good<br/>Maybe next time

Great Experience. Enjoyed a great meal and friendly service at Kirks last night, also really impressed by the wine list with all the right wines from the best regions love the ratings (Halliday etc) made choosing a great wine easy to match our food!<br/>We will be back!!
Beau Jangle
What is with these average pubs charging $40 for sub standard main courses. Totally C grade experience. From the pokies and clientele that go there this is bog Aussie pub with nice view. Shocking wine list with no respect to the local wine region, greasy sub standard food, no table service (order yiur drinks at the counter thanks luv). You can pay these prices at Donovan's in Melbourne. It blows me away and it is a crime. Shame shame shame!
Wayne Newton
Reef & beef was as tough as a boot<br/>Beef sourced from the " high country"? I think they mean road kill from Arthur's Seat.<br/>Disappointed
The Honest Diner
Very nice place. Great atmosphere. Prices are up there but they deliver good meals for it. Had the classic meal chicken parma and it was delicious. Everything hot on the plate. Will be back again and would definitely recommend to others.
Tj1987
Usually love Kirks, been going for years. However something has noticeably changed. The place was practically empty, only 3 or 4 tables - odd considering the parking on the Esplanade was chockas. Food took an hour to come out. When the chocolate cake we ordered came to the table, if came complete with little bugs on the plate. Took it back to the counter and the girl working said 'cant you just flick them off?' We left straight after<br/><br/>Shape up Kirks, you're a great venue, don't become the Dava
Geenypops
Lunch with hubby on a Monday so not busy at all. Lunch took a long time to come. Hubby had pizza which in his words was like eating off a salada biscuit. I had home made lasagna (which I doubt) was mostly pasta and cheese with bolognaise sauce on top. Chips were best part of meal. Very disappointing experience.
Turnerhome
Great place for lunch with million dollar views. Had lunch with a friend and felt compelled to share my experience. Food was amazing, I had the veal and it was cooked to perfection. I was amazed to meet the owner and the chef when they came out at various times to ensure we were enjoying our meal. The service was faultless, the food exceptional and overall great value for money. I'll be back.
Leanne
10/6/13 15 mins to order 1.... 10/6/13<br/>15 mins to order<br/>1.25hrs to get 2 COLD chicken salads & 1 bowl not freshly cooked chips<br/>Great salad<br/><br/>You decide!
Sam
Great food and service the front of house manager was very accomadating
Nick
Comments from the family after going there for my birthday dinner:<br/>Brother: go next door for parmas<br/>GF: couldn't even get the chips right<br/>Dad: not one good meal<br/>Mother: canned soup<br/>Sister; terrible<br/>Me: honestly one of the worst steaks I have ever had, the surf and turf was on special an the reason why it was on special I figured out the hard<br/><br/>Very loud, crying babies. Worst dinner ever!<br/>Don't normally write reviews
Peter
I dined at kirks this evening with my family and just wanted to say what a pleasure it was. My food was fantastic and the service was well above average, staff and management go above and beyond to make everything perfect. We dine out quite a lot and I will now my kirks my #1 destination and will recommend it to everyone. Good job too all. The reef and beef special is A++
Michael Evans
Function Review. I had a function at kirks recently in the Balcony room. From my initial enquiry and subsequent requests with Staff, I felt confident that they not only captured my wishes but they would also fulfil these on the day; which is what did happen. <br/><br/>The staff were not only professional but they also worked with a constant smile and an extremely friendly attitude. <br/><br/>I was surprised by the number of my guests who commented on the venue and the quality of the food (including the blokes:-). Beyond this was the number of comments about the friendly nature of the staff and the job they were doing. In particular the staff through their own initiative went above what was normally expected to provide that extra level of service also with an attitude that nothing was to much trouble. <br/><br/>Once again I would like to express my gratitude for a very stress free day and the wonderful event that was created for us. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Kirks to any one else who is contemplating an event.
Neverland
Been here in many occasions being a local. Sorry to say i have never had a good experience. Self service, unfriendly staff, not to mention incredibly overpriced. we waited 45 minutes for pizzas and were the ONLY people in the venue. At least there wasn't a hair in it like last time.. Or burnt like the time before.. Or forgotten entrees the time before that..
Andrew Harvie
Pos1427. I would highly recommend Kirks in Mornington, I have always had wonderful experiences every time I visit this venue. When you arrive you are greeted by friendly staff and are treated in the highest regard. The service is not the only attraction every meal my husband and I have had has been well presented and extremely enjoyable. Also the postcard views of the bays are incredible.
Lorraine McKenna
Lorraine. As regular visitors to Kirks, can only recommend it for value, service and style. A great place to enjoy a meal as the sun goes down.
John
Kirks on the Esplanade. Kirks represents very good value, fine foods, very good wine list. Staff make you feel very welcome.
Arch
Great day out. Drove to Mornington to enjoy the beautiful weather came across Kirks, sat on the deck taking in the amazing views, loved the extensive wine list. Had a enjoyable time with great food and atmosphere.
Tadine
Great family lunch. Took my family for lunch on a weekday and glad i didn't read the reviews first or i may not have missed out. We had a window seat which looked over the bay, the large windows were open letting a lovely summer breeze in. We were all happy with out meals, they came out quickly, the staff were friendly and very attentive. We then had coffee and dessert and that was also enjoyable. The only criticism i could find is that i found it quite pricey. However the overall experience was so enjoyable that i didn't mind spending the money. Would have loved to have stayed for the rest of the afternoon enjoying the view, fresh air and a few glasses of wine.
Jo Smith
Great Steak. Loved my meal served by staff that wanted to be there quite hard to find good service lately. The steak was amazing and so was the view from where we were sitting. Will recommend to all my friends.
Nick
Pathetic. I'll keep it short, bad-slow service, too expensive and poor ingredients. When you struggle to make a nice greek salad you are not in a good place. View is amazing, all we can hope for now is a change of management and staff and kitchen staff
Peter Graham
Very Disappointed (LAST TIME). I have eaten at Kirks on 4-5 occasions. My last time was 24th Nov 2012.<br/>Generally the food has been okay for the price this time the food was disgusting. Even before we ate the staff were apologyetic for delays.<br/>After leaving 75% of my meal the waitress asked "how was your meal' response was less than average and not good. Expecting someone to come over and ask what was wrong and then further frustrated when no one showed. So finalyy as above It was my LAST TIME
Kathryn Hands
Good atmosphere great veiw but the bar service slow pretty expensive food and the steak was very grisly and tough! my friends that had the oysters and pizza loved it!!
Zonjean
Poor food & noisy. Lamb curry was all potato. Flounder was dry. Noise was terrible. Not a pleasant dinning experience.
Margaret Jones
Had an amazing dining experience at kirks last night. The staff were fantastic considering how busy they were. The food was outstanding. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back soon
Chrisa39
Had a great experience staff were great and service impressive. Walked in without reservation and were accommodated nicely - 6 adults and 8 kids. The kids were entertained and we all had a great experience.
Adam Wesley
Simply go next door.
Sam Doyle
Pub at heart. So self service-order your own drinks and food at the bar/counter. Wouldnt be an issue if your food arrived within the hour and if you weren't paying 'fine dining' prices. Steak was cooked well but mash and onion jam were stone cold. Certainly didn't compensate for the ridiculous wait (and mammoth bill). Won't be back.
Mel
Meh. We had been here once before and i had a terrible meal but my partner loved the steak so convinced me to go back for a steak. Second time round still not impressed. Steak had a weired taste to it. Was quite tough for a medium cooked steak, tasted more like well done. The table we were "seated"/abandoned at was poky and small in a drafty corner despite booking and arriving to a half empty restaurant. The table we moved ourselves to (no staff came back) was very cold and drafty but musnt have been as bad as the one opposite us which we saw 3 couples move from in the time we were there. We were in the older section and the ambience is just not right. The background music(if you could call it that) was very irritating, seems a bit of an odd choice for a place which obviously considers itselfto be upmarket judging by the prices.<br/>Not worth the prices. Maybe if there was table service they could ask what they do but its self service. Bruschetta is yummy but 3 pieces seems a bit of an odd serving size when most people share, and again very overpriced. And $12 for a jug of soft drink is a bit steep.

Shocking pizza, had better frozen pizza. Marinara is ok

Far too expensive, and the service was rubbish.

Too expensive. Order at the counter, pay for silver service. Shame, it has a beautiful view.

BIG NO.. My family and I recently had lunch here on a sunday afternoon. When we arrived we waited and watched while 3 staff members walked straight past us who did not seat us for about 5 minutes. Once we were finally seated we had a table in the new extension area which overlooks the bay, the view was lovely. I went up to order our meals which were so overpriced! they then forgot one of our meals which when it finally came out we had almost finished our meals. the young lady who served us looked so unhappy. she didnt smile once and when i asked her about my husbands missing meal she sighed as though it was such a hassle for her to sort it out. when she came back with the meal she slapped it down on the table and walked off, no " sorry for the wait" or anything at all. We certainly wont be dining here any time again soon.

OK.. Went with a group (12) over the Xmas/New year period so it was understandably busy. Had to wait a while to order food/drinks but understandable given the time of year. Food is quite expensive, but comparable to other places in the Mornington vicinity. Had to wait a bit for the food to come out, but when it did, everyone's meal came out within a couple of minutes of each other, which was good. The quality of the food was acceptable. Had a parma chips/salad ($25.90) which was good. Out of the 12 on our table, everybody enjoyed their meal. Very nice location and views. Overall I would give the place a 7.5/10
