Review About Thyme - Mornington

Came here for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. The pancakes with mascarpone, berries and maple syrup were delicious. As was the sausage and egg muffin. The coffee was pretty good too. Recommended.

Had the savoury sweet potato waffle special. Very tasty. Could have used a crunchy contrasting texture as the waffle was soft as was the rest of the components of the meal. The kasundi was delicious and made the dish. Nice coffee, friendly service, overall good solid cafe away from the busy main street.

Very poor. Earlier, coffee was good. Great service. Left and decided to go back for lunch. Chose the sausage roll with salad. The sausage roll was lacking in seasoning and flavour. Not at all palatable. Asked if it could be changed for the Moroccan pie, only to be told I would still have to pay for the sausage roll and that no one else has complained! My son is a chef and I can appreciate that sometimes people are picky for no reason, however, I'm not one of those people. To then be charged for something that wasn't eaten. For the chef not to come out and speak to me. I do not recommend this place. Coffee and cake ok. Bitterly disappointed. I am a local and will spread the bad word.

Great coffee and service. House made pastries are so good! An excellent little cafe tucked away in Mornington. Well worth a visit. We regularly visit for breakfast on the weekend after kids sport. Always good quality brekky and coffee or hot chocolate for the kids. Haven't been to any of the theme nights but hear they are also well regarded.

I chose this restaurant as it was recommended by a friend. I wanted to impress my sister, visiting the area, with a special and memorable lunch. I was immediately disappointed by the decor and a lack of ambience, but even more so, by the somewhat limited menu. The menu sheet itself was grubby and poorly presented. We both chose Nachos which proved to be a terrible mistake. What arrived at our table were scaldingly hot platters with mountains of dry, cold, corn chips featuring a small coating of a manufactured tomato sauce and also, an equally poor quality guacamole from a jar and not freshly made, both still chilled as if just taken out of the fridge. The dish was topped with a small quantity of grilled greasy cheese and sour cream. These huge platters looked unattractively messy and the taste was equally unsatisfactory. The waiter who brought the platters to our table actually burned her hand whilst carrying these from the kitchen for which we both offered sympathy. I have never been so embarrassed by any other restaurant anywhere in the world, as I was, due to this horrendous experience. Without a doubt, the worst meal of my life!

This is a very pleasant little place tucked away off main street in Mornington. They make delicious food but sadly on the last occasion I was there when I ordered potato pancakes with salmon, the beautifully cooked and presented meal was ruined by the use of sweetened pancake batter. Sugar and salmon just don't mix. Hence only three stars even if the coffee is very good!

This is a great place to dine anytime. We had another family meal here last evening. The menu has a lot of variety and choice including share plates. The food is fantastic so is the service.Prices are reasonable too.Local wines and beers are available. We call it Morningtons best kept secret. The ambience is pleasant and there are tables outside if you want to enjoy the street vibe.

Each time I have eaten there I have been an given an array of different choices so you are not having the same menu over and over. All meals have been amazing, fresh and creative. I would encourage you try this gorgeous boutique cafe who have a qualified chef !! - and the sweets - yum!!

$43 for the pictured meals and 2 coffees which was ok but we found that the waitresses were very rude to us twice, once was when we went inside to order not thinking that we had table service... Could have enjoyed it more if it wasn’t the case.

After our lunch at Biscottini we hop, skipped and jumped our way a few blocks (literally with baby girl in tow) and happened across About Thyme. There was select seating for a few groups of people outside, and one lot being free (that included a kind of booth/long stool) I found the seating to be particularly favourable with a squirmy baby girl (I could block her in) so we decided to coffee there.

Nice, simple setting with friendly service.
Bit of room for improvement on the coffee, but not terrible. The housemade scones was enjoyable as our snack - kicking myself for not choosing the citrus jam instead of berry jam; the partner spoke too soon!

Staff were a little distracted but the food was delightful. Nice portion sizes, good flavours. Tucked away off main street but well worth a look.

A great dinner again, 5th time, at a really nice, friendly restaurant. Food was excellent, as was the service and atmosphere.
A varied menu with something to suit everyone and a great Espresso Martini!

Hidden gem. About Thyme is tucked away in Blake St Mornington. A great little cafe/restaurant with good food and friendly service. We had breakfast there a few weeks ago and were really impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. Definitely worth a try if you are a local or visiting the peninsula.

Have been to About Thyme now 4 times over the past couple of months. 3 times for dinner with friends and again for Mother's Day lunch. The food is good and the service could not be faulted. It sits between a cafe and a restaurant in expectations. Highly recommend dinner. Book to avoid disappointment.

Enjoyed a beautiful lunch today at about thyme. all my family each loves their meals, staff were very attentive & accommodating. a little squishy where we were seated but tables were still large enough!
don't go past the gnocchi-absolutely amazing & their brownies were perfect to finish it off! will definitely return to try breakfast!!!!

WORST COFFEE IN MORNINGTON. Ordered a large coffee got a small - went back to advise them and received my large coffee that tasted like they had just tipped the original coffee into a large cup and added milk - it was watery curdled milk and it smelt off! Nothing worse than when you pay for something and get crap!

Disappointing. My girlfriends and I were looking forward to trying out About Thyme, having heard good reviews BUT I would have to disagree with those. Firstly it was a very warm night and water was not brought to the table until we asked for it. No air conditioning? Second, the menu did not list if the items were gluten free etc and nor were we told by the waitress (who was very friendly). Thirdly, the meals came out too hot! You had to blow . . a lot! The portion size if the confit duck was a joke for the price charged. The pumpkin gnocchi, was NOT gnocchi. It was pumpkin cut into squares. Nice presentation though. My curry was watery and lacked flavour. No amount of salt or pepper remedied that. When I answered the waitress when asked how my meal was, which I didn't eat, she said they'd take the price off the menu, which was decent of them HOWEVER I was not asked if I would like something else. I was hungry. While my friends were sorting out the bill and couldn't believe how much it cost them, I was across the road at the ice creamery! All in all a very disappointing experience and one I won't be repeating. Plenty of other places to eat in Mornington.

Needs a makeover. With so much competition in such a small radius, About Thyme really needs to step up the dining experience if it wants to survive. The coffee is average, the service good. But it feels like how cafés did in the 1990s, like an upmarket kitchen. And I smelt line a cafeteria afterward. Although nothing technically wrong, there are many other places on Main St I'd choose first.

Quality of the food would have been perfectly acceptable - at half the price.

Not sure about the costing. First visit was for coffees (two) and one muffin - great coffee and delicious muffin, shared between us . . . but pricey at over $14. Second visit for lunch, with wine . . . both dishes were tasty and beautifully presented . . . we paid happily and only afterwards realised the follow-up coffees and one muffin apparently cost over $16. Will return but next time pay more attention to the bill - which is not written but just entered at the cash desk.

Don't walk past - it's open. Everything about this little gem is fabulous. Lovely bright welcoming interior, indoor and out door seating. Have been for lunch but tonight was the first time for dinner. There is something for everyone - we are vegetarian and I cannot recommend the coconut chickpea curry enough - full of flavor, beautifully presented, YUM ! The Staff are wonderful - so inviting and hospitable. We couldn't resist a few sweet goodies to takeaway for later. Love this place - will be back soon.

Totally Addicted!. The food at About Thyme is an unmistakeable winner. Every plate is beautiful in both flavour and presentation - nothing is overlooked!

For Breakfast, high recommendations of the Tex Mex quesadilla for the adventurous breakfast and the Potoato and Poppy Seed Piklets with Smoked Salmon...although it may still take me a few more weeks to get through the rest of the delicious breakfast options.

Do yourself a flavour favor and pop into see these lovely people who are genuinely passionate about food!

So Disappointed. Service was good, but was all down hill from there. Entrees are fairly overpriced, although the steak was good when you order one think you eat one and find out it was actually two (serves) and you will be paying for two, it really doesn't make your night. Super disappointed. (Maybe Lunch is better then Dinner)

Went mid week, didn't have to book. Great service and interesting menu - a refreshing addition to Mornington. Loved the prawn pie - could have eaten it for my starter, main and desert! Give it a go.
