Review Sun & Mei Chinese Restaurant - Mornington

This Restaurant, has the best Chinese Food in Mornington. We have been coming here for over 15 yrs. The food is always delicious, and consistent. Prices very rarely change. Quality of food and size of the meals are the best in town for value and taste. Definitely recommend Chefs Special "Ginger fish", and Lemon Chicken.....I must say though, order everything, it is all Amazingly Delicious 10/10.

My family and I walked in at 5:30pm and were looked up and down as we had kids. There was no one else in the ‘restaurant’ at the time, we sat there until 5:50pm before I had to walk up and order our dinner myself (despite it being table service). At this point we hadn’t even been acknowledged, asked if we wanted drinks or entree’s. I went up, ordered and paid at 6pm. $91. The girl at the front was extremely rude and had a lot of attitude from start to finish. I was asked if we wanted to have all our food bought out at once, which I said yes to. 15-20 mins later we were given our 3 entree’s, hoping/expecting the mains to follow straight after. Unfortunately, the mains were no where to be seen, nor were we told the mains could be a wait. No communication whatsoever. Another 20 mins go by, our table hadn’t been cleared and we hadn’t been ‘checked’ on or acknowledged other than the waitress placing entree’s on the table. I went back up to the front to ask if we could have our meals in takeaway containers as at this point it had been over an hour since we were seated, over half an hour since we paid, 15-20 mins since we got our entree’s. People with kids understand this is an extremely long time for them to sit still. In this time, 2 tables who came in after us had been served, finished and left as well as multiple takeaway orders picked up. I then asked how far away our 3 mains were told “I don’t know, I’m not in the kitchen” so I asked “can you please go ask the kitchen”, again got laughed at and looked at as if she was asking if I was serious. She came back, ignored me and served a customer. After serving, I asked if I could speak to the manager and she replied with “she can’t talk to you right now because she’s in the kitchen helping make your meal come out quicker”. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and so disrespectful. At 6:50pm, we got our meals in a takeaway container and left. We got home, there was no plum sauce with the Fried Chicken and the Beef and Black Bean certainly wasn’t Beef and Black Bean. It was watery and flavourless. We got takeaway sizes but paid for seated service. Which is approx. $30 difference. I’ve never waited so long for 3 entree’s and 3 mains and been treated to horribly in my life. I refuse to ever go back and will be telling everyone I know about this experience. There was no “sorry for the wait” or “can we do/get you anything”. Nothing. I feel like I just completely wasted $91, considering we as a family very rarely go out for dinner, this was very disappointing and upsetting. Do not recommend, will never go back. I don't do this, but when it comes to my family being treated so horribly - something needed to be said.

My family and friends are regulars here, the food is amazing and they never disappoint with their amazing assortment of Chinese dishes. Garlic prawns are my favorite. We always either share or go the banquet A. Friendly staff and you can BYO if you want.

Not rave material but ok if you're desperate for Chinese. Dim Sims are good

Lovely food but lengthy delays in busy periods.

For a quiet strip restaurant in Mornington on a Sunday night there's no reason to go past Sun & Mei. It seats 25 but don't be deterred, this is definitely worth the stop. The décor and feel is that of nostalgic 90s family dining out. The chicken soup a classic favourite was full of flavour and warmth, just what's needed on a cold evening, and the Szechuan Beef, was the perfect balance of flavour, chili, heat, and quality. Sizzle plates fill the room and happy diners everywhere, from the large family party at the back to the young family next to us and the couple on the other side of the room. I suggest you also try the deep fried ice-cream, a fan favourite. If you're in Mornington or the Peninsula area this is a place definitely worthwhile, quality food and quality service. If you cant eat in there's always take-away. We'll be coming back soon for sure

Looove Sun & Mei! All their dishes are fantastic, & the pricing of their dishes, are super affordable! Always welcomes with a smile, and they really look after their customers! Whenever we’re in Mornington, that’s our favourite ‘go-to’ for quality, & service. Nice one guys!
Trish & Zac x

My friends and I go to place. The food is great and so reasonably priced. Home made dim sims and honey chicken are my faves! Service is also good, ambience is average. We love overeating here

Mornington doesn't have many Asian restaurants. This isn't a fantastic Chinese restaurant but it's adequate. Good food let down by some shabby service.

Went here with my family and baby for an early quick meal. 2 and a half hours later we walked out without having part of the meal we ordered as they baby was verging meltdown and not fair to other patrons. To be honest we were all verging a meltdown!! Had to pay for the food we didn't even eat or get served, nor had started to be cooked!! The food was actually pretty good, but the service was horrendous! The girls working too interested in their mobile phones behind the counter! We had to ask for glasses, spoons, bowls!! They didn't take our dirty plates, didn't put our byo drinks in a fridge to keep cool. Absolute substandard service. We were actually in disbelief with the length of time it took for our meal. 50 minutes for soup!! There excuse, we're really busy with takeaway, everything's been pushed out. Sorry.
Luckily we are spoilt with choice in Mornington, so we won't be going back the barely adequate "restaurant".
If you have a spare 4 hours for a meal and don't mind sitting in a dirty dated shoebox, you'll have a great time!

Last night we ate at this restaurant for the first and last time. The young staff are rude and have no personality (except for one young Asian waitress).
The food was so disappointing and bland.
Wouldn't go there again if you paid me!

Unpretentious, good Chinese food. we didn't try the Thai given it appears to be primarily a Chinese place. Very friendly service too.

Great little resturant. I went tonight with my partner by recommendation of the inlaws, I was unimpressed when I first looked in, and first impression of customer service was not great, but easily made up for with friendly smiles and easy conversation. Chilli chicken was good but cantonese steak was great, great fried rice and all reasonably priced. Could definitely use a revamp

Oh my God! They must have paid someone to write the 2 good reviews. The food was terrible!!! The only good thing that was good was the Coca Cola. Even the soy sauce couldn't rescue the dishes. I would advise people to please not waste your money and go somewhere else. I needed a good dose of magnum to keep from bringing up the food.

Simply great!. I am a self appointed Chinese specialist and this restaurant is at the top of my tree by far.
It ticks all the boxes on food, atmosphere, staff, and most importantly price..
Ask for the ginger fish or the crispy skin pork (plum sauce for me)
You will not be disappointed i promise!
