Review Brass Razu Wine Bar - Mornington

Mark Clyburn
Effortlessly cool and chill but still vibrant and fun. Cute and competent staff plus great options. The mulled wine was delicious!

Valentine's is always worth celebrating, friends, drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. It is full of ambiance, we enjoy this favourite haunt of ours, ciao Lou, Ava and friends 😀

I really want to like this place, the decor is perfect & the fireplace is divine. But the food, and especially drinks leave much to be desired. Also, the ordering system - whether QR or in person is always complicated.

I love this place. Great food, mainly to share, or to eat all to yourself. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. I just love the decor there. Lots of lovely comfy arm chairs draped in velvet. The walls are covered in picture frames and mirrors. The back area is just gorgeous, with fairy lights and soft fabrics hanging from the roof. They serve great looking cocktails, I haven't indulged yet, but I will one day. It just has such a wonderful vibe, you must go. And when you do, order the Chocolate Lava Cake! You won't be sorry.

I came here for bottomless brunch for my best friends birthday and had the absolute best time. Terrific vibes and venue, Nicole looked after us through the whole booking and was kind, funny, professional and an absolute icon. We absolutely loved her. Thank you Brass Razu for a fantastic experience.

The girls and I went for drinks on a Tuesday night. The bartenders were leticia & Dylan! They were extremely friendly & made the experience enjoyable for us! We even got a song choice of love shack! Would highly recommend this place!

Great spot, the bottomless brunch was amazing. The service was nice and the espresso martinis were to die for. Such a nice area for the brunch, gorgeous decor - has a very vintage vibe to it. The outdoor setting was very nice. I really recommend the bottomless brunch.

I love the decor here! I’ve been here a few times and I always feel like it takes me back to another era!

A great little bar to relax with friends and have a wine and a bite to eat.

This place has so much potential; the staff are great, the interior is an Aladdin’s cave of oddities and antique furniture; perfect for a sophisticated catch up with friends. This venue feels like it has been plucked out of Fitzroy or St Kilda and transported to Mornington. That said; There is an element that detracted from my experience; the “happy hour” brings with it the yobbo element who have no consideration for others; have an over inflated sense of entitlement - and don’t know how to conduct themselves in public spaces - anyone who wears a baseball cap backwards needs to be avoided at all costs. Great place, but I would recommend choosing your times - there are always those who spoil it for others ....

I'm not a big drinker but I came here on a Sunday to catch up with friends and this is the perfect spot to wine and dine with some cheese. The wine list is exceptionally amazing with an extensive range. The atmosphere is bursting here and you just feel right at home.

Came here for a chilled Mother’s Day lunch. Hit up a few small plates and the grazing platter between 4 of us and was all really delicious! Eggplant baos amazing, gorgeous mushroom arancini- everything had us polishing off the plate. Cocktails great too 👌 thanks guys- so hard to find an unpretentious place on Mother’s Day and this hit the spot perfectly.

Nice and busy atmosphere, the wine list is diverse and what we had was exceptional. The food however felt that it was done in a microwave, nothing special or really exciting, good if your on a night out with friends for few drinks and your not really taking notice of what your eating! Would I go back? I would only for the wine.

Great little place for drinks and nibbles. Loved the decor and vibe. Ver cute and cosy. We only went for drinks and dessert but we will definitely be back !

got red+white wine + french platter. HIGHLY recommend the french platter. we shared it between 2 people, and were both full from it. everything on platter was beautiful, wine was both v good. want to come back here and try the other platter one day. also really nice interior

Was introduced to this place on the weekend and will definately be back again! The drinks menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. And whilst they are not a restaurant, their nibbles are delish and go down perfectly with a wine or cocktail.

Loved this funky little wine bar! Filled with old arm chairs and lounges, it is a comfy place to enjoy some wine and food. We had some pre dinner drinks and nibbles, but would definitely love to come back and spend some more time here! The wine and staff were lovely. The food did take a little while to come out, but was very tasty.

I went to Brass Razu for the Mother's Day high tea. It was $60 per person. It was alright. I have been to a lot of high teas so I can be quite fussy. I really did like the cute teapot. I found the tea to go cold very fast.

I really liked the salmon sandwich, especially more than the prosciutto. The chocolates were lovely. I found there were too many sweets, more savoury was needed for balance. The glasses of champagne were very generous and tall.

I also wasn't a fan of the seating area for the high tea. Couches were comfy BUT at first we were provided with one awkward tiny table to place everything on. Fortunately the waitress realised this issue and provided us with an extra table.

I think for high tea you are better off going to High Tea in Paris. It is cheaper there and the cakes are larger. Do go to Brass Razu for drinks though!

I have also been to Brass Razu for drinks. I love their long island ice tea served in a teapot!!!! It is the best thing there! I would recommend sitting in the courtyard area. It is lovely.

Charming and quaint little gem in my hometown of Mornington. It is somewhere between a lux lounge and grandmas garden which I find charming and comfortable. Great wine selection and reasonably priced - however the teapots are a must try!

I have never been so disrespected or spoken to so rudely as a customer in all my life. My girlfriends and I will never be returning to this establish and would strongly recommend against other people going there as well.

My 3 girlfriends and I used to be regular customers at Brass Razu. For our regular catch ups we would go across the road to Docs have dinner and then head across to Brass Razu for drinks and dessert. On this occasion we had had a lovely dinner and went across to Brass Razu. We found an empty space for the four of us on two couches that had the capacity to seat 6 (later according to the manager/owner we were rudely taking up space enough for 7). I ordered a wine and my friend ordered a brownie. We settled in and spent an hour chatting and catching up as good friends do before one of our number had to leave to get up early the next day. I was then considering having a second drink after waiting to ensure I was under the limit. At this point the owner/manager comes over to us and says very rudely, ‘I have 7 staff on tonight, it’s Saturday night, it’s busy, I have to think about how I’m going to pay them, are you going to consume more? I’m turning other people away because I need the space? Are you going to stay or go?’ (at this point there were actually a bunch of empty seats around because lots of people had just left)

After being spoken to so rudely we decided just to leave. As we headed out the front we saw that in fact there was not a single person waiting outside to be seated and lots of people had just left meaning there were many empty spaces out the back. So I was very upset that our lovely night had been so rudely disturbed and decided to inform the owner/manager that she had lost our business. I went behind the bar and asked her about why she had given us the impression that we were causing her to lose business when no-one was waiting? She immediately said, ‘that’s not what I said. I just need to you to be consuming more if you’re going to stay on my premises.’ I said, ‘well we have consumed food and drink.’ She threw back in my face, ‘ONE BROWNIE AND ONE DRINK IS NOT ENOUGH and you’re 3 people taking enough spots for 7!’ I just informed her that she had lost our regular business and told her we were leaving and we will not be back. Evidently there is a minimum per hour limit for what you are required to consume at this establishment for it to be enough for you to be allowed to enjoy your night. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A PLACE THAT TREATS ITS CUSTOMERS SO RUDELY AND RUINS THEIR NIGHT!

Best wine bar in Mornington! Bustling atmosphere packed with a great crowd!! Wouldn't recommend anywhere else, this wine bar is a must! Great service, great wine, great vibe.

Such a pity this what was a unique fun spot is WAS... now owned by a grumpy old man with no taste ... overpriced , such a pity , hoping this gets sld again so it can shine like it use too !!!

Really enjoyed a quick lunch at this delightfully quirky place. Both entree style meals were excellent. Coffee also great.
P.S. Contrary to previous statements by others, all the staff were wonderful .
P.P.S The cost per two people is (justifiably) closer to $50 and not $20 as listed.

Great cocktails & potato croquettes! Also shared a sharing plate and some pizza- all delicious! Staff could have been cheerier to as to some vibe...

We stopped in for lunch on a day that was crazy busy everywhere! But it seemed people had forgotten to try out this little gem! We received our food reasonably quick and it was delicious! We shared the Tuna Salad, and a Chorizo pizza! Soooooo good! We will definitely be back to sit at the window and watch the world go by, as we eat the yummy food served here!

They do great pizzzzzzzas plz go there and here's a joke I did a brass in the toilet ha ha nice food too.
Loved it, can't wait to come back. Stopped in for a light lunch, had beef sliders which were beautiful and a glass of red. Great coffee and small cake really nice also. Service was outstanding, girl serving was very knowledgable regarding wines. No complaints at all, decor beautiful.

Love it!!. Love this place. Came here after waiting for a table at the rocks for way too long with three friends on a Sunday arvo. The coffee is awesome! I have been living in Mornington for 7 years and believe me I had had my fair share of bad coffee here. My partner is particularly fussy ad he absolutely loved his latte. We ordered the beef sliders - incredibly cheap, delicious and presented beautifully, bruschetta, potato and veg croquettes, bread and dips share platter for 2 and salt and pepper prawns all delish. I expected tiny serving sizes for the price but they were more than generous for what you pay. A must try place and nice atmosphere away from the serious hustle and bustle of Main st.

Response to "obnoxios staff" post. I regret the experience your family had.
Our outside courtyard is a designated smoking area which is where you and your family were seated awaiting your food order.
Other customers subsequently came into the courtyard to smoke. I understand that you were unhappy with this but I cannot stop customers smoking in a designated smoking area.
My staff offered you seating inside which you declined, and after you cancelled your food order your payment was refunded in full.
As I said, I regret your experience was not a happy one but I don't think we could have done any more to make your family comfortable.
Poorservice
Obnoxious staff.... After our party of 10 - 5 adults and 5 children ( which occupied most of the courtyard) had ordered food and drinks we were told we had the choice to vacate to make room for another part of 4 who had just come in and wanted to smoke. Really rude staff, who told us to basically stuff it when we expressed a concern of having kids in the courtyard around people smoking . Guess we now know where their priorities are smoking over serving families who have already ordered.

Try it out!. Comfortable and welcoming. Brass Razu is a meandering type of cafe/bar with comfortable and "eccentriclassical" designed rooms with antique warmth. Hence "Brass" Its a good place to be talk with a frew friends or be alone with a book. I stuck with liquer instead of wine and the high quality and creative presentation of both drinks and food is excellent. One of Mornington's gems and WELL worth a visit. (Also positioned next to a tempting Afghan restauraunt!)

Great for a light lunch, drink and a good chat. A group of us went to Brass Razu last week and had a very enjoyable light lunch, I had very nice pâte and bread, a glass of wine and a lovely catch up in the sunny courtyard with friends. A very comfortable and cosy place

Dissappointed. Very disappointed, decided to eat at the Brass Razu tonight, wasn't expecting a big meal and we were happy to order a grazing platter for 2 and a garlic and herb pizza, we were in a position to view the staff, who appeared to be very disinterested in what they were doing, absolutely no cooking going on in this establishment, I watched many visits to the freezer which was readily visible, all food was prepared behind the counter, our grazing platter consisted of nothing more than small amounts of dips, cheese, olives etc sourced from supermarket deli packs at a cost of $38 approx, this was supposedly a dish of gourmet delicacies, not so!! For us as first time diners we will never return, lift your game, show some happiness and cook some real food.
Take a look next door, there tables were full yours were empty, that speaks for it self.

Diner review 14/09/2013. We had drinks and nibbles on Saturday afternoon, what a wonderful way to spend our time! The staff were very attentive and accommodating. When they were asked about their gourmet dips they went out of their way to let me know which dips would suit my vegan diet. Lovely atmosphere and a fantastic coffee and wines!
Juzzandy
Overpriced drinks with babies making terrible cocktails. Really disappointed after many years of loving this place.

Great food and extensive wine menu. Staff were friendly but didn't seem to have much knowledge about the menu. Will be back :)

Great vibe / great wine. Apart from the wines, the beers are also impressive - and the cocktails are great - they even offer a couple of originals concoctions. The staff were really friendly and I enjoyed a great gluten free meal (not always easy to achieve). Some of the sofas need attention guys.....but we enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

Great place for a gathering. Had a fun night with friends for a birthday and we rolled out at close! Having such a great time enjoying their wine list didn't notice the time. Best bar in Main street for sure.

Lovely Coffee too!. Just called in for Coffee and cakes yesterday, lovely staff, quirky furniture and ambience. We were most impressed with the quality of the coffee - amazing.

We'll be back for something more substantial soon.

Great. I have read the previous reviews and come to the conclusion that there are various staff that effect people's experiences. This is the second time I have been here. The first time it was really busy and had a really cool vibe. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed but still friendly. Was there tonight and it was quiet, the staff was really friendly again. Both times were 2 young guys. The wine choice is great and recommendations are freely available. The food is decent. Not inspiring but enjoyable. Love the chairs, the couches and the almost speakeasy feel - personally I think brass razu is best for an aperitif with some dips before going out for dinner (or after)

Function fun. We had a wonderful time at a birthday party in the back room a couple of weeks ago. The wines were great and the beers unusual but our men loved the variety. Thanks to all the staff for making it a real success. We have been a few times and enjoyed the teapot which is a real winner.

Whats happened to Brass??. Use to love this place. Great atmosphere, excellent choice of wine and beautiful share platters. With a great buzz.
Whats with the old people now running the bar!!???
Really dont want to go out for a fun night and have to deal with grumpy gramps and his side kick, Group meetings with staff at 11.00 pm is not a good look. And standing behind the bar staring at the customers and glaring at the staff is really unnerving.! I feel for the staff. It feels like they are being held back. Walked in the other day and they are each at their own table doing books and computer work. Wow, need to find a new place,. This one is going to die a slow death.!!!!!! Such a shame. Vibe is gone!!

Brass Razu. Dropped in for lazy Friday drinks. Had a brilliant local Chardonnay recommended by the staff. Easy Road it was called, never heard of it but really nice. The bar is really cool, with great atmosphere and service. Definitely be back again.

Suggestion.... I notice the vacant floor above Brass Razu... Would be really cool if they bought that and expanded the room, because they would pack that floor out too.

Great bar, if you can get in on the weekdays (we went on Thursday) it's a great place to rendevous with friends before going out. Great drinks and antique vibe makes for a great start to the evening.

Boyfriend and I are regulars at Brass. Great atmosphere, and the different rooms each have their own unique flavour. We alwasy find the staff really friendly, even when its booming, which it does on Friday and Saturday nights. It's not a restaurant but serves a good range of tapas plates. Well worth a visit, lots of regulars with a wide age range, from 20-somethings to some grannies and grandads.

Sincere apology. To Flick and others reading this review, I would like to state that I was the waitress that was at the register. I sincerely apologise for my rude behaviour. I cracked under pressure. I let personal stresses come into my work place and forgot my role within hospitality. Please accept my sincere apology and know that I accept full responsibility for my behaviour.
Rob
Don't waste your time and money. I'm in disbelief that a business can attract any sort of custom. The service was the worst I have ever experienced. The waitress was rude, unhelpful and down right nasty. What a dive. Two thumbs down.
Flick
I had a glass of wine and a glass of wine with my partner before the movies and we thought it was great until we went to the counter to pay the bill. The moody, unstable cow with blonde curly hair amd blue contact lenses at the register asked me for some 'card' we were supposed to hand over for bill payment. We weren't given a card and she got angry at us and lectured me about being supposed to have some stupid card I knew nothing about. I was treated with extreme disrespect and when I asked her what her problem was she said to me ' don't get angry with me lady' and told me I wasn't welcome back there! I wasn't even angry. I was shocked and amazed at her bizarre behavior. This ruined our evening and I will never support that business ever again. Horrible experience!

Not your average tea party.. Cocktails are wonderful though pricey and the atmosphere is great especially in the back room. The long Island Iced tea is a favorite with the novlety of the coffee pot making you feel like a hundred dollars!! The Pimms jug is also a ripper. Try the sampling platters!
JPM
Crap service, overpriced mediocre Food (we noticed that its premade and the bartenders heat it up in a small toaster oven) but a nice wine list. Seems like a nice spot for drinks and cocktails but don't go there for food or service, you'll leave dissapointed.
Lucky
Fantastic place, we were Friday night and had a blast. We did round the world with the beer then onto long island ice tea. Mmmmm
LauraPerego
Really nice cocktails. Good ambience.

I can't decide to like or dislike the Brass Razu. The food, wine and atmosphere good but two of the waitresses were horrid. They really took the edge off an otherwise top night.

Do we have to go?. En route to Portsea we stopped-in for lunch, having gone for coffee in the past and intending to return. Very glad we did. Lovely atmosphere (& music), friendly professional service (the wine recommendation was excellent), and the food was superb. As others have said the worst bit is having to leave the fire and venture back out into the rain and cold. Looking forward to returning another day.

Just got home from a day on the Peninsula which was finished off in thesplendid and relaxed atmosphere of Brass Razu. Like sitting in a local French Bar, it was warm, great friendly and genuine service topped off with the best arrancini balls we'd eaten. Worst thing about it was having to leave!!
Foodiefoodlover
Cosy with French decor and a rich, velvety ambience... We had a gorgeous drink of champers and some nibbles that included a dense Labne cheese... the Long Island Tea served in an antique tea pot looked like perfect girls, lazy afternoon fare....
Graeme
Nice food. Very reasonable prices. Enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere.

Great wine, lovely atmosphere. Old French decor, fantastic selection of wine and imported beer, delicious light meals, great service - highly recommended! You'll love it.
