Review Main Sail Cafe Bar - Mornington

Chan Cecilia
Yummy clam chowder with lots of fresh seafood and the coffee is wonderful there.

“The lady and the dude are funny and kind. All of the food is delicious. I love the muffins. The big windows are awesome.” Will, 4 and a half Adult translation: At the front of the house, Megs & James are delightful. AJ makes beautiful food. All of the staff are always friendly and efficient. The location is ace too. Value for money can’t be beat on Main Street. I’ve only been here a handful of times, but it always feels like home. Thankful.

Fantastic service! Food tasted great and was very good for the prices. Coffee tasted great! Staff were very friendly and we're happy to chat, they answered all of my questions about the town. All in all a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch or even just a coffee!

First time at the Main Sail Cafe Bar. Ordered two lattes and a milkshake. Fantastic service. Nothing was too much trouble. Anna brought out our order promptly, and when she realised I had two small children, she asked if I would like a couple of takeaway cups so they could share....she came back promptly with cups and lids so they wouldn't spill it over themselves. She also provided straws which she placed into a slit in the lids. When my coffee spilt on my serviette, Anna brought out another serviette...I didn't even have to ask!! Coffee was lovely and my two grandsons enjoyed their milkshake. Will definitely be back.

Really disappointed with the meal served, as was my friend. They actually not only give half a schnitzel but also slice it in half in thickness too so what you end up with is a paper thin slither quarter of a chicken schnitzel on your sandwich with one slice of lettuce. The staff were clearly not thrilled to be waiting on anyone that day.

Was really looking forward to enjoying a good breakfast but main sail has disappointed with its watered down Safeway packaged hollandaise sauce with over cooked poached eggs and undercooked hash browns. If I had no taste buds it might of had a chance of tasting better.

Wont be back.Ordered a panini and coffee on card and paid upfront upon ordering and then further coffees paid in cash again paid up front upon ordering. As a favour I brought in my plates and was asked by one of the waitresses if I wanted to pay for my order which I already had done.No apologies for the mistake and then to add insult asked after I was consuming my second coffees if I wanted to pay my bill again which I had done and have record of doing on my phone via my bank app and I am sure via your CCTV. I understand there are lowlifes who try to skip out on their bills but I didn’t and don’t and to be questioned twice has left a really nasty taste in my mouth. Perhaps some communication and accounting on your system who has paid for what order can avoid you unnecessarily embarrassing yourself and customers who have done the right thing. Maybe also the relevant staff member needs to learn some lessons in diplomacy and treating customers with respect who have done nothing wrong.

Paid for and ordered breakfast, waited 30 minutes still no sign of food, when asked how much longer it would be they had forgotten our order. They were not busy with only a hand full of customers. Terrible service

Had a lovely breakfast here. Highlights being a very nicely cooked eggs Benedict and lovely scones to boot. Staff were also pretty friendly and service prompt

Just another overrated cafe in Mornington. The coffee was alright here, but the service was slow, the food (plain eggs and toast) was not that great and overall I just wouldn't return to this place.

I just had the biggest take away bowl of the yummiest thickest seafood chowder! I will definitely be back for more! Thank you main sail cafe

A friend recommended we head here for the Belfast Breakfast. Location is great and breakfast was at a decent size for $20. Though quality was non existent, fried bread was inedible and sausage seemed deep fried. What a disappointment!

I dare not send it back after seeing an older gentleman, either owner or chef glaring out of the kitchen.

The girl who served us either hates life or herself but a smile wouldn't go a miss.

Will not be returning to this cafe

A bit noisy because it's on the Main Street . Pretty packed everywhere so we end up walk in here . We had a chai latte , open steak sandwich, cappuccino, wages . Big quantity, reasonable price . Friendly people. They used scotch fillets for steak sandwich. Yum

Eggs were undercooked and the white was runny, making the toast soggy. Additionally the avocado was very cold, in turn making the whole meal cold.

Fantastic brunch with my kids this morning. Staff are very friendly and food was delicious! Very prompt and value for money too! Will definitely visit when next in Mornington.

Breakfast focaccia is a must! Have had it a few times now and it is amazing and cant go past it when its $10.50. They do a good coffee as well even though they can be a little slow coming out.

A great stop. A great place to grab a light lunch and a coffee. Service was a little slow but it was quite busy.

Not so good.... Ate there for breakfast, unfortunately the only thing good on my plate was the avocado. There was to much hollandaise sauce and it was not good to taste, and the bread was thick if you didn't finish your breakfast in 5 mins the bread would become super soggy from the poached egg. Better luck next time.

Great service, great food, great coffee and great prices. After a terrible experience over the road at another coffee shop - where we waited for food that never arrived - we went to the Main Sail and found it excellent:

Focaccia's were delicious, made with great fresh ingredients, coffee was great and prices very good. Plus lovely staff.

We couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

Great food, good prices, lovely coffee, smiling staff

Great coffee, lovely staff. I took my parents there today for a light Sunday lunch. Very friendly staff who were very efficient and served us in a timely manner. Coffees were fantastic, very impressed with them. According to the waiter, they changed coffees 2 weeks ago. Mum and I had the gnocchi. An entree sized portion which was perfect as the sauce was rich and creamy. Dad had a salami focaccia which came with a small salad, he said the focaccia nice and fresh and properly toasted. Overall a great place for a casual coffee or lunch... Or both!

OMG! A must go!. At first when my friend suggested Main Sail for lunch I was a bit worried as there are many great places to eat in Mornington but this place has improved and dare I say one of the best. Especially considering how busy they were at lunch time.
Service was excellent and the coffee just as good, I was glad to hear breakfast available all day so decided to select the Eggs Benedict with a few extras :) ONE WORD AMAZING!!!
Holandaise sauce to die for, perfect runny poached eggs and buttery Brioche WOW....
I will be back and telling everyone I know not to hesitate going to Main Sail for lunch or a sneaky breakfast at 1pm!!
WELL DONE!!
Sarah
Such a cosy cafe with delicious foccacia's and coffee. Very friendly staff who are great at making sure you have everything you need. I will most definitely dine here again.

We had lunch there today, busy little place, great atmosphere and service prompt. The food was to die for. I have no idea which cafe the comment below was at as we did not experience any of what was said at Main sail. Will definitely come back and recommend!

Service is terrible. I have only been to Main Sail a few times. However, the last time will be the "last time". We were seated by the staff at around 3pm. We were engaged in a vigorous discussion, so when I realised that 35 minutes had passed and (although several other tables had since arrived, and been served), we had not been offered service. I was more than a little annoyed: The place was not busy at all, so there was no excuse, in my book. So, we left, and spent our money elsewhere.

The below reviews are a little amusing. Main sail is a great little cafe.. The previous comments make me think they are not genuine. Local girl , and I can tell you for what main sail charges for their food it is very good for the quality and quantity you are getting . They are forgetting to mention their prices are approx $10 for a massive focaccia and sides !!!! There breakfasts approx $12-$20 very cheap for Mornington in fact cheap for any where . I agree the table service can be a little slow but I believe you can go and order at the counter too !! I agree coffees are very average and that is a fair call. Prices great quality great quantity great not to mention very accommodating to altering menus, and any changes you want .i love main sail and will continue going there

Extremely Basic.. Basic food, However, when I came to eat here for my birthday lunch the chicken schnitzel sandwich my mother had was raw on the inside. Wait staff seem to not care too much about customers. Wouldn't go back.

Waited way too long, fancy menu, but on plate - ordinary. :-( no return! Sum staff rude.

Good meal.

Really bad service. Went out for lunch with two friends. The first order came out- she finished her meal. The second order came out- she finished her meal. Had to ask where my meal was along with two drinks after 40 minutes after we ordered. We ordered pre-made sandwiches that only needed to go in the grill. Why would that take 40-60 minutes???

Service good. Main sail burger and steak sand which amazing. Fresh orange juice best iv ever had!! Highly recommend.

I like the steak sandwich and would take commend it to a big eater... Huge proportion.

HORRIBLE. My daughter and I just had the most over priced horrible tasting focaccia you can ever imagine. It was old, there was not enough filling on either of them to put together to fill one of them and it was expensive - will never go there again.

After a 20 min wait for food we were told that they had run out of fish, had to re-order and wait another 20 mins. Place was filthy and run down and food was not good. Worst steak sandwich I've ever eaten. Would never go back

OMG....went there with my partner and had Nachos. The worst I ever had. Mushy and cold. No flavour what so ever. On top of that I was looking forward at least to sit in the sun and have a coffee. HORRIBLE. Certainly a place I have to forget very quickly
Ahelmil
Not bad, food excellent but not the cheapest in main st. Need to get the doors fixed as it's drafty in the winter. Coffee was good! Perhaps it depends on your barista.
Shortmachplease
As per previous review, but VERY average. bad, bad coffee.
