Review Cafe Thirteen 83 - Mornington

Matthew Aitken
I was in the market for a new café spot that wasn't too bustling with heavy traffic. I stumbled across thirteen83 and loved in layout and open space, great menu and positive feedback. Google didn't let me down, staff were excellent, picked our own table and were started with coffees within minutes. Lots of great menu options, healthy vibe of both breakfast and lunch selections. Smoothies and takeaway options too. Great spot.

This is a sound place. An easy 4 out of 5. It’s a lovely buzzy little cafe in the commercial area of Mornington. There are warehouses, factory outlets etc all around it. We’d just been to the very good Made in Japan outlet nearby, and up popped this cafe so we just had to visit. It’s a clean, comfortable and well ordered cafe with good inside and outside areas. The wood panelling inside gives the place a warm feel too. The medium coffee and egg and bacon roll, the $9.50 special, took our eye today. The roll was good. A terrifically fresh toasted sesame seed roll. It was fresh as. A decent size as well and piping hot with an egg and two slices of good bacon. Well cooked. Simple but nicely presented. We enjoyed one each. The food to go looked really good too. The coffee was a tidy one too. Well up to the mark. Service was amiable throughout too from multiple servers and engagingly efficient. I agree with a previous comment. This place is trendy and good without any hipster snobbery. A good place and we’d happily return anytime.

This was the best eggs Benedict with salmon I’ve ever had, add the sausage for some spice We need a new six star category for hidden gems like this cafe

Spontaneously visited this place for breakfast one morning and was not dissapointed! Everything on the menu sounded great but we went with the Mexican Breakfast Burrito and Breakfast Bruschetta. They were both delicious! Generous portions for a good price. The staff were lovely and very accomodating and the food came out super quick. My new go-to cafe for breakfast whenever I’m down on the Peninsula!

Some of the best coffee I have tasted on the peninsula. The food is also very delicious. I visit here quite frequently!

Absolutely the true hidden gem 💎 in this area, I wouldn't have notice if not visiting the beer factory opposite the road. Friendly staff, excellent quality dishes, chief knows what he is doing. Coffee is way better than most places near CBD.

Sometimes you go places and they don't make you feel comfortable and it's difficult to explain why but this was one of those places for me. It's set in an industrial area and obviously surrounded by gyms so I found it to feel more like a cafeteria than a comfortable cafe. It's nice looking and they've done a good job to try and make it feel welcoming but due to there being few soft furnishings, hard floors etc it is extremely loud and quite cold which doesn't help the overall feel.
I had the omelette which tasted ok but it came out quite soggy and nothing came with it. To me good practice would see the staff ask if the customer would like toast to accompany it; some might say no but it would be a good idea to ask. My coffee was pretty good but unfortunately my partner's was bitter and not enjoyable.
The cafe obviously suits parents with kids pretty well as they made up the majority of the customers.
