Review Dava Thai - Mornington

Gavin Froling
This place is a rip off. $31.95 for Satay beef and coconut rice (Takeaway) There was a tiny amount of meat (maybe 5% of the dish) Basically a container of satay juice and vegetables. If I'm paying this much for a dish, i expect it to contain a bit of the main ingredient (beef) and more than $2 worth. Trust me when I say go next door to Dragon King Chinese.

Sorry Dava Thai - usually you rate highly. Tonight’s takeaway soups were not full of $18’s worth of ingredients and we received battered prawns instead of spring rolls. We’re a bit disappointed.

We ordered from dava Thai on Sunday night we have had it from there so many times and it’s been really nice. It was Really disappointing I got there and they had forgotten one of our mains so had to wait another 5 mins and we got charged for 2 large rice when we ordered 2 small. We got 2 mains of pad satay and both meals were thick and gluggy and no nice runny sauce like usual. One of the rice was over cooked and stuck together. Disappointing as it cost $72.00 and it was horrible.

What a rip off! $15 for spring rolls? $30 for pad thai? I ordered anyway because I was told it was good. Ordered through uber eats only to have my order cancelled. When I rang I was told it's because there's a $40 minimum for delivery plus an $8.00 delivery fee. Nowhere on uber eats or the dava thai website does it say anything about a minimum order.

Amazing food, lots of flavour that embodies that authentic Thai feel. I would consider one of their few draw backs to be the price, it’s high… it prevents us from ordering more often - I guess you are paying for the quality.. but close to $30 for a curry seems a bit rich(which you will need to be to feed a family). Noted is the prices are the same whether you eat in or takeaway, so you may as well enjoy skipping the dishes.

There has been a sharp increase in the quality of food here. I wrote this place off about 2 years ago but there is clearly a new chef because the food has improved drastically. I’ve been through Thailand (and research where we eat in advance) and this easily matches the best I found. Many reviews complain about price. If you want lots of green beans, canned bamboo and other cheap fillers, don’t shop here. But if you seek actual quality Thai food, you really can’t do better. There are so many cashews in the Chicken & Cashew Nut that I wonder how they turn a profit.

Considering we live near by we thought we would give this place a shot instead of the normal place we goto, glad we did. The meal was very flavoursome and fresh. Portion sizes were large. We found the meat was cut way too big though, they were definitely not bite size prices or prices that would even fit in your mouth at all. Not much difference between the large and small rice. Next time we will just order a small rice instead. I had the massaman beef curry (hot) was excellent other than the previously mentioned meat size. The missus had the satay chicken, she also liked it, was very rich but nice. We also ordered a small special rice (dava rice) and a large plain rice, all up was about 56 dollars, quite expensive considering other options. Take away took about 25 mins and was in a great paper carry bag. Overall a little more expensive than we would normally pay, was good quality but then the other take away place we go to like Indian are equal quality but much cheaper.

Very nice Thai food and it all tastes super fresh. A big tick for clearly indicating vegan options.

Can only comment on the quality of take away food however it's great! This has become our new regular thai in Mornington. The red curry is delicious, with the perfect heat (though you can choose). Fish cakes and spring rolls also perfect!

Had Dava Thai twice when I've been down the Peninsula and loved it!! Satay chicken is to die for! Everything is so tasty and has you coming back for second servings 😊

I have only had food from here twice so far but it certainly seems to have the goods! If you have read any of my other reviews you will know I am a sucker for home delivery. I really cant be that bothered with going out and eating but if I can get good food home delivered in good time and in good condition then I am in. Now when I say good time I don't mean fast - if I have to wait an hour because they are busy that is fine (if they are busy that means people like them) In good time means it arrives hot!The thing that surprised me the first time we ordered home delivery was the sizing of the main serves!! They were not skimpy they were a good size and they tasted great! They also tasted fresh, clean, full of flavour, they delivered on the dish - Singapore noodles hot,  smoky, fresh good quality meats etc Red Duck curry was delicious with a good amount of duck and a great curry sauce! The entree's where terrific - don't know if they were home made or not but they worked for me - I really like the curry puffs! All in all Dava Thai delivers not just to my house but also on flavour, quality, accessibility and price. I wont be back because I have never actually gone there but I will certainly be ordering home delivery again and highly recommend it!!!!
