Review Mi Mexiko - Mornington

Had lunch at Mi Mexiko & the service was great. The Pork belly taco & bbq corn were definitely stand outs. The shop fit out is also really cool.

Came here for a Christmas function and got the set menu. Nachos were good, dessert was good, but everything in between was average. I suppose when you have some of Australias best bbq teams cooking for you on a weekly basis you do get spoilt.

Tacos were good. Service was friendly. The Quesadilla is a miss..don't order it. Looked after the kids with variations...thank you! Was a beautiful sunny day out..watched to classic cars & bikes cruise the streets. Pity I was driving...I would have smashed a few margaritas down.

Absolutely Amazing... I was served by such a gorgeous young lady whom was so attentive and the good vibes. This is a great little charmer and the seating really comfortable. Food portion was generous. I suggested grilled fish would be a nice touch as I prefer grilled food myself but this did not take away from the experience or how delicious the food was. Great service! 😍🤗

Food fresh, good service, but prices bit high, sangria good but has next to zero alcohol. Breathtested 20 mins later, blew 00. How is that possible on two large glasses

My first visit here.. since its mexican food would have wanted to see guac everything but it wasn't much guac. Tapas style and good location for groups to get together. They serve alcohol and have a pretty good menu. My favourite is the corn!

Welcoming and friendly. Beautiful food and Yummy cocktails. With miss communication to what I ordered she was so lovely and appologitic and very quickly fixed it. Couldn't of asked for better service and that's what all good food industry's are about. Good food and great service. Thank you for a nice lunch.

New Menu! Wow we had lunch today and enjoyed a sample of their new range available and we not disappointed....fresh, full of flavor and just delicious. We had the corn chips, croquettes, chicken tacos and pork belly tacos. If you haven’t been here make a visit, if you have been....go back and give this new menu a crack! Great service to match as well. Thanks for an enjoyable relaxed lunch.

Bad food, not Mexican and overpriced

chicken wings are terribly dry, no taste, worst chicken wings that i have ever had in my life.

Amazing food everything’s so fresh and full of flavour and great combinations. Large range of strong drinks get atmosphere. All members of stuff were super friendly too

Yummy Mexican food, fresh and flavourful! The space has a great vibe, with some big share tables and some smaller more intimate seating. Great location on the Main Street in Mornington with windows looking out onto the street. The food was great, lots of share/tapas style dishes and lots of flavour. A few good vegan options too!<br/>

Really like this place. Love the outdoor seating area. Always visit this place with our dogs they enjoy the cuddles and we enjoy the food.

Service was great. We went with the feed me banquet portion, and there were quite a few hits and misses in the mix (eg. the corn was a bit, the quesadilla was a big miss). Overall ok, but not amazing.

We walked past Taco Bill thinking this place would be a bit better quality. We were wrong. Probably the worst taco I’ve ever had. The tortilla was incredibly stale and the filling was very plain.

Lovely service, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They’ve just brought out a new menu and I would absolutely recommend trying the Burrito Bowl!

Being on holidays and choosing this restaurant over many others, we wanted this place to be great...unfortunately this wasn’t the case. We were encouraged to have the steak taco special - steak was gristle-y and over cooked. We mentioned this to the staff member and were encouraged to try the fish tacos. This was heaps better, but still probably a 6/10. The guacamole was pre-made, the margarita seemed to be from a pre-mix... Parsley over coriander seemed like a strange Mexican garnish...? Staff were nice, but after still having to pay for the steak tacos - this place was pretty disappointing.

I have to say my experience in this place was totally upset. Went for lunch there at this Sunday, we ordered the pork belly taco, smoked lamb burrito bowl, corn cob and soft shell crab. The only tasty dish is the corn cob, the pork belly isn’t fresh, it smells really bad, smoked lamb was totally under seasoned, the corn chips were stupidly hard...soft shell crab was soggy and bland. Most interesting thing was that we been charged 10% service fee and 1.5% eftpos fee. We paid $80 and left with two empty stomachs.....

Do you always need a reason to dine out? Nah. This reason of nothing, and the added effect of having not much to do already on that sunny Spring Sunday in November, had us wandering over to Mi Mexiko on the main street. At first, I was a little concerned. Could we find something to please even our most fussiest of eaters palate?

Service was fantastic. The food was brought out fast and fresh, really delicious vegetarian options. Will defiantly be coming back here with a large group during the summer time. Hands down the best Mexican I’ve ever had.

Good food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. There are a few options for vegans, I got the corn chips with guacamole, the quinoa salad and the Mexican rice. Sadly the corn chips were so hard, they weren’t pleasant to eat, however the quinoa salad was great (be sure to add lots of lime juice), I would call it more of a main than a side! The Mexican rice was good too, it had subtle flavour.

Great atmosphere and location to eat. Loved the lime mocktail and tacos. Pulled pork and pork belly is great to eat in this weather. Highly recommend the nachos but do need some salt. Would say it was 3.5 star overall.

The food menu is poor and extremely over priced. They have $45 'Feed Me' dish but unless everyone on the table gets it. We got it and were severely dissapointed in the quality and size. Please don't waste your time here.

Our experience was mixed. The staff was super friendly, our waitress was gorgeous and we were seated immediately. The biggest flaw was the food!!! We ordered a range from “nachos” to fish, pork, beef tacos and even a chicken taco. Everything was under seasoned, floating in frozen juice as the fish was not fresh. The pulled pork was disgusting and all the taco soft shells were completely tasteless. Unfortunately the manager doesn’t want to take on any feedback and believes that she owns the best restaurant on the strip. Listen to your customers as they are the ones who are paying $85 at the end of the day. We left hungry and $85 out of pocket. Honestly just go to taco bill one street down.

Service was good. Food not fresh, or hot when served or particularly tasty. Some of it was burned and tough. Drinks average. On the whole, not worth trying unless you're stuck in Mornington and nothing else is open.

Amazing fresh Mexican right in the Mornington peninsula. Great service and the cocktails were delicious!! The cerviche was lovely and the pulled pork to die for!! Yum!!

Food was great, staff were lovely and very helpful. Manager ruined the entire experience with her rudeness. We booked for a hens party of 15 people weeks ago and were quoted $45 per head. Obviously for public holidays we expected to pay a surcharge because the staff deserve the extra pay, however we assumed that surcharge would have been included in our quoted price (since the date we were quoted for was clearly mentioned prior) or at least mentioned when we booked. When we went to pay, I simply asked why we were not told when we booked that a surcharge on top of our quoted price would be charged, I was talked over, talked down to, spoken to rudely and ridiculed by the manager. I was asking a simple question ‘why wouldn’t you mention it when we booked?’ And she kept cutting me off and talking over me ranting and raving about it being a public holiday - to which I tried to respond that I knew and was happy to pay surcharges, just would have liked to have known before we charged our guests too little. I couldn’t even get that out without being spoken over. <br/>The manager has ruined my opinion of this place. It’s really sad because the food and service were faultless. But because of the way she treated us (when we were paying her over $1000 mind you) was appalling.

Found the food to not be the freshest - the avocado had brown spots, the tomato was drying and the fish tasted like it may have been frozen. The restaurant itself was also very muggy on this hot day, but the lack of fans & air conditioning didn’t help. Service was friendly.

Had the pulled pork tostaditas, the corn and a taco. All were quite delicious. Good ratios! <br/>Water was warm, that's the only negative. And they only had Pepsi.

The place is vibrant and the staff is friendly. Quite good variety in the drinks and the food tasted fresh and delicious!<br/>Definitely worth a try!

"This ain't Tex-Mex"<br/>Was recommended to go here; puzzled a bit by other reviews about small serving sizes. We all chose the chef's choice foodie banquet and there was more than ample. <br/>You won't see excessive lashing of melted cheese, salsa or frijoles, rather a range of different dishes and flavours. <br/>For example, the corn chips are a low oil, baked corn. Really crunchy & quite different. <br/>Vegie dishes were excellent. Beef cheek was tender, rich. Brownie dessert was restrained sweetness with just the right amount of Icecream. <br/>But... the premises are small and no space for espresso machine :( - settled for sipping a coffee flavoured tequila instead.<br/><br/>Definitely different, go and try. Would I go again? Yes (but may need to fast B4 or after!!! )

So close to being amazing but just missed the mark. It was like the chef hadn't been taste testing and over seasoned everything. We started with the coleslaw, which was very fresh, had lots of flavour and was generous in size. However it was swimming in the salad dressing which was very overpowering, and the red peppercorns were just too strong for the dish. Next we had the nachos which were creative and tasty. Last we got a pork quesadilla, and about laughed when it came out because it was so small. Using two small corn tortillas would have been one thing, but instead they just used one and folded it over. I mean, really? Also, the flavour was good but unfortunately the pork was SO salty it ruined it for us. And I love salt, so that means a lot coming from me. On the upside, it tasted like they are using La Tortillaria corn chips and tortillas which are hands-down the best and most authentic in Australia. Overall, this place has so much potential- the flavours are there but just need to be balanced better. And really- $7.50 for ONE TACO? That's highway robbery when you can get authentic handmade tacos in the States for $1 each. I know cost of living in Australia is higher than the US, but surely not 7x higher.<br/>Otherwise, good service and the restaurant had a great vibe.

Food was overpriced and the servings tiny. I figured out why there were no burritos on the menu<br/>as they prefer you to spend more on their tiny tacos in which the average guy would need at least<br/>4 to feel partially full.  The Mexican chains give a much better bang for your buck

This is another cool place to have a meal on the main strip of Mornington. The Mexican food is really tasty and the service is friendly and attentive. Getting some shared plates and trying a few things is the way to go if down in the area.

Will not be going back - unless they introduce some sour cream to their menu. <br/><br/>The staff were lovely but the food was boring. How much coriander can one place serve? Hot tip, it doesn't make anything taste any better. <br/><br/>Pull out some sour cream and this place would be 100 times more appealing. <br/><br/>Boring. Bland. And they forgot to put through our second round of drinks.

don't waste your time here! portions are very small and over priced. tried the fish taco and drunken chicken taco - no flavour and watery texture - the rest of the order didn't arrive because the waiting staff couldn't be bothered putting it through. also waiting staff unhygienic ie eating, licking fingers during service - disgusting.

My boyfriend said Mi Mexiko was, "one of the nicest places he'd been in a long time" when we walked out last night and I'd have to agree with him! From the moment we walked by staff were approachable, helpful and friendly. In particular, the man who explained the menu to us as it was our first time visiting. We tried the bbq corn, corn chips, chorizo tostaditas, pulled pork quesadilla, pork belly taco and the potatoes. Everything was delicious and so fresh! However, servings are a little on the small side. My favourite was probably the chorizo tostaditas, but I have to say probably because I couldn't really pick! I also tried the pomegranate and the peach margaritas which were both very tasty. Even on a Monday night Mi Mexiko was very busy, however still retained a chill and relaxed atmosphere.

Friendly service and reasonable prices. They do a mean salted caramel espresso martini but overall the choice of drinks could be improved a little. Can highly recommend the corn on the cob (so so good!) as well as the nachos. Quesadilla's have been hit and miss but overall good. The only thing that really annoys me is that they never have hot sauce on the tables or offer to bring you some. It's mexican ...jalapeño sauce is always required!

Do not waste your money. Tacos were tiny, and tasteless. Took a long time to come out. Our waitress forgot about us and didn't take our order, we had to call over another waitress after 20 mins of waiting. Cost me $45 for 6 tiny tacos that tasted terrible. BOYCOTT!

SUMMERY: Great staff, otherwise is a soulless Mexican tapas establishment.<br/><br/>Friendly, observant and polite staff. Very happy with the service! This is uncommon in Australia!! <br/><br/>Good, if not bland, food in small servings. This menu reminds me a Tapas bar....(overpriced snack menu). <br/><br/>Cocktails are okay but; there is far, far too much mint in everything.<br/><br/>Absolutely no 20-something customers at all. Noticed a few walk in, look around and then walk out promptly. It might dress itself as a hip new place but the only people here under 35 are the staff.<br/><br/>Awful, awful music. The only thing playing was 2000's rap. This is not a joke. This is not an exaggeration. Haven't heard that much Fifty Cent in a single day before, even when he was popular. Seems like their trying to attract younger dinners with the music: it's not working.<br/><br/>Would go again, but will have my expectations severely tempered.<br/><br/>(Edited for typo)

Mi Mexiko is the newest Mexican restaurant in Mornington. Like many restaurants in Mornington, this one also serves tapas. <br/><br/>I dined at Mi Mexiko with my mum. She was very unhappy with how small the tacos were. She was still hungry so she ended up eating my nachos!! I do think the nachos were a good size for one person but not to share - I really liked how the ricotta worked so well with the nachos. I've had this combination at other restaurants and it has never worked before!! <br/><br/>The highlight was definitely the delicious mocktail!! <br/><br/>Would I come here again? Probably only for drinks. The food was a bit pricy considering how small some of the servings are.

Yummy cocktails and really fresh and tasty food. Great service and friendly staff. Couldn't fault anything! Would definitely recommend a visit.

The staff is so amenable. I was dining alone, and they made sure I get a good seat.. ambience and music is great with outdoor sitting. Mushroom quesadillas are yummy and just the right spice. Chicken tacos are also awesome. The servings are small but that leaves room to taste more things on the menu.. food is fresh and great.

Been 3 times now, loved it every time! Always delicious, fresh food. Can't think of what to recommend, because everything I've tried has been amazing. Great vibe, sometimes a little noisy inside, but always plenty of outside seating as well. Really glad these guys opened, mornington is far better for it. 👍👍

Have been here three times now and every time exceeds my expectations. Beautiful fresh food with a lot if variety on the menu. Service is attentive.. first rate all round!

I've been here twice and loved it.<br/>The ceviche was so good, as were our tacos and spicy spuds! I thought the prices were reasonable compared to some other locals. <br/>Great job guys!

Over priced , food was small for what you pay .<br/>Corn chips and guacamole was plain.We ordered a share plate and came with 5 tortillas for two people. Cost us $75 for two people and we didn't leave satisfied <br/>Won't be going back .<br/><br/><br/>
