First time to this absolute gem in Mortdale. With such a lot of competition in this suburb it's a tough gig but this place has it all. The menu is delightful and flexible to your tastes or dietary needs. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming and the staff, friendly, polite and obliging. Plenty of street parking. My brunch was excellent as was my partners. This will be my new fave to catch up with friends.
Need a cafe that has good ambience, friendly staff and great coffee and food? This is the place to be. Thank you Sugar Salt staff for making mine and my sons experience wonderful.

best staff, best coffee and a great menu!
I quite enjoyed this place, came here with the family and friends and found it too be quite a good experience. The service is quick and friendly.
The menu is pretty decent and has something for everyone. The food is also pretty fairly priced too.
I could easily come here again and try out new things on the menu. 😀
After having to fast for an 11.30am medical test and then not finishing till 1.30pm, I deserved a treat and a good meal!
Off the main drag of Morts Road is sleepy Pitt Street. It has better parking options, so it was an easy desicion to head to SugarSalt Espresso for a late brunch.
The place is small but has a nice old world feel with a bit of a sticky front door. I was surprised that inside it was quite busy, most tables full & way too cold to be seated outside, I opted for the high seating at the front window.
First up was a large flat white to get my blood pumping again. Which took a bit longer to come than I was hoping, but when it arrived it was hot, strong and smooth. Is Latte Art is dying or is it just not a big deal in Sydney? After perusing the menu I opted to have the "Holy Frit".
Zucchini & Corn fritter Stack, Avocado Salsa & a poached egg.
Another considerable wait for my meal. Reading other reviews it seems to be a common theme, but if you're in no rush I think it's worth the wait.
The fritters were very tasty with lots of zucchini and corn. Sometimes fritters can be quite doughy, but not these. The avocado salsa was tasty and there was lots of it. The poached egg was perfect.
All in all great Cafe for brunch or lunch if your not in a rush.
Sugar Salt is a fun little cafe located in Mortdale. With a friendly atmosphere we grabbed a bench seat and ordered from their menu, although I would say you should check out their insta for the different specials they do if you are feeling something a little bit different. We loved the look of the super bowl and we are suckers for a good smashed avo. The super bowl was a great mix of different veggies, avocado and crispy handful of roasted chickpeas. The smashed avo was topped with a perfectly poached egg and had a fresh flavour addition with the pomegranate seeds. Good food, good atmosphere and good coffee.
Sugar Salt espresso is located in southern Sydney, close to the train station in Mortdale. In a suburb filled with an array of multicultural restaurants, yet this cafe is the only one of its kind. It’s the perfect place for a top coffee or a weekend brunch. We visited on Mother’s Day and naturally this meant it was super busy! We sat outside, but well looked after by the wait staff. The cafe had a lovely surprise, giving all the mums dining there a flower! How sweet. They also had ‘Mum’ donuts which made it a special day for the mums there. They had even arranged another special surprise for a mother, when her son returned from the army to deliver her coffee!
Located in Mortdale, Sugarsalt espresso opened up in Easter and is the next trendy brunch location. It's conveniently located around the corner from Mortdale station so there's absolutely no excuse to get here. Or if you're somewhat locals like us, you'd be cheering that there's a great new cafe on the block.
I live across the road and haven't ventured over yet since it's been taken over as SugarSalt. The last 2 cafes here had been disappointing so once bitten....
This 3rd rebirth however is FANTASTIC! Delicious breakfast, excellent coffee and fantastic customer service. I can totally see why its always busy compared to the last few cafes. just what this end of Mortdale needed.
Love our neighbourhood bistro. Food and coffee is amazing and on point. Staff is friendly and the cafe has a good vibe(also warm in winters). There is also ample street parking nearby .
Had sat morning breakfast at 9am, just before the hustle and bustle began. Great lighting and mood, with a great street view which helps you feel like you're really in the heart of mortdale.
friendly staff , food was deliciously tasty and coffees were definitely on point! would he coming again. !

Despite the fact it was totally packed out, the food did not come with a long wait. The chef was extremely efficient and food came out quickly and beautifully presented.
It was a super cold and rainy day so we got some warming dishes. The eggs Benedict with truffle hollandiase sauce, and your choice of ham, bacon or salmon (we chose ham), and some asparagus and greens, it was a lovely combination of flavours.
We also had the smashed avo with poached eggs, pomegranate and the sliced almonds were a nice touch.
We enjoyed our visit and appreciate the good service and hospitality.
Go there almost every weekday. Food's great (personal favourite is a bacon and egg wrap crispy bacon is a must), coffees better!
Of the more dine in breakfast & lunch items they all taste great and don't leave you hungry. Pictured is 'The Hangover' make sure you bring one, or at least a large appetite with no plans for lunch after it & an Iced latte (for the hot day - cold coffee fix).
Reasonably priced, excellent food with staff that's very attentive!
When we went the glass were a little dirty but I think that's more from the drying process rather than the cafe.
Fried SS Chicken Burger was 10/10! This local cafe in Mortdale is very welcoming and has a great vibe. The food is excellent and is well-priced. Would return and will be bringing friends soon! Keep up the good work team Sugarsalt!
