We decided to give this place a go as we walked past so many times. It's nice place for a date night. I wasn't able to get a pic of the food as I had a hungry man on my hands lol but I really liked the style of plates they had. It seemed very authentic and pretty. It is a little too pricy, well for Thai food that is. Didn't like the satay chicken skewers. The massaman was okay a little chewy
This is my go-to local Thai. It is always an enjoyable meal and in my opinion one of the best in the area. The sizzling satay chicken special is a fav!
Very good for a local. I really don't understand the reviews below - my family and friends have eaten here many many times in the past three years and have never had bad food. I guess you can be unlucky sometimes like the diners who posted bad reviews, and maybe you're more likely to post a review if you're unhappy than always satisfied!
I agree you wouldn't go out of your way to visit Sri Arun but as a suburban Thai it is, we think, above par (and we speak as former Newtown and Marrickville locals with high expectations of small, family restaurants).
Massaman curry is a highlight, and the stir fries and salads are always very generous and full of great ingredients - not like the four prawns and soggy shallots that you'd see in some places.
Watch for the specials on the blackboard - often surprising combinations and based on seasonal food. BYO for wine and beer with a BWS down the road and a pub bottle shop across the street.
Excellent place to take older children too - we've had nights with four adults at one table and the six primary and high school aged kids at another with the staff doing a great job of waiting/entertaining the brood so we felt like we could relax and eat as grown ups.
It's not Sailor's Thai, but then you're not paying a premium either. It's fresh, tasty, tender and always leaves us with a smile.
