What’s not to like? Food is delicious, looks fabulous. A little pricy but worth it! Great place to bring a date
Arrived and had to wait a good 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us. We had booked but there was a little confusion as unbeknown to us part of our party had already been seated. We opted for izakaya style and chose a few items. At first the items came out one at a time which was a bit strange considering we were sharing them. The food was great but the service seemed a little lacking. Overall, not bad but nothing to write home about.
Great restaurant- had the wagyu grade 9 and it did not dissapoint. Good ambiance and fair price as well. Would like to try the wagyu steak next time!
The tuna toro was the highlight here, absolutely delicious! Salmon toro was also nice, but the tuna was melting in my mouth. The quail gyoza and beef yakiniku sliders were excellent. Cancun, gekko and spicy tuna rolls were all great with my fav being the gekko roll. Lamb ribs were tender and tasty. There's also a great selection of Japanese beers and alcoholic beverages. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend.
Honestly... the food was so good. I think it may be my new favourite Japanese place in Perth.
Great place for a date or a drink with their huge range of specialty drinks and japanese alcohol. The restaurant is beautiful with stunning lighting.
I was so blown away that I forgot to take photos. I think that tells you how much I enjoyed it.
Go here. Do.. it.. now.
Positives: Overall very good food, friendly service. Wagyu on volcanic stone was delicious, though if sliced even more thinly would be perfect. Also loved the seafood sukiyaki.
Negatives: Food took a while to be served. The sashimi was sliced very thinly, but what was the major letdown was that there was a lot of unchewable sinew.
All the food we had was amazing, recommend the Gyoza as a starter, the wagyu on the volcanic rock was ok, my hubby loved it, I didn't like the condiments but that's personal preference. Service was very attentive and they put us on the table I requested when I booked which is always great! I recommend the Japanese Weizen beer, it's so creamy - not cheap but worth it!
Luxury authentic Japanese restaurant. This place offer the best selection of sakes. The foods delighting and very rich in flavour. The service is attentive. One of the best Japanese restaurant in perth.
Gorgeous restaurant. Lovely service. Delicious food. Recommend the cod. In the entertainment book which is good. Plenty of seating. They messed up our food order, forgot my drink and gave hot sake instead of cold- lost points for those errors but they quickly tried to rectify. Still recommend.
Excellent dinner at Tsunami. Good atmosphere and great dinner. Love the sukiyaki and wagyu beef on hot stone. Need to book in advanced for a table tho😬
Lovely food but service a little organised. No one to greet us on arrival and left standing there for a few minutes. Left waiting for drinks and not given dessert menus but overall the food was well presented and tasted very nice.
Ordered via UberEats - had the chef's special sushimi and gyoza. Both had were of fantastic quality. Gyoza were one of the best I've tried in Perth.
Tsunami has been our favorite restaurant for many years. We enjoyed a birthday dinner there just recently. The food and service were excellent, as always. The highlights for me were the scallop and mackerel ceviche, the marinated black cod and the sake. They have a stunning range of top shelf sake. The three sakes that we tried were all really delicate and fragrant, as good as any really fine wine.
Not your average Japanese restaurant. Creative dishes and extensive Japanese beer and wine menu. We ordered the Wagyu beef set on volcanic stone and Sukiyaki. Sukiyaki was superb and authentic. Friendly staff and service is prompt. Definitely will be back to try all the other dishes. Love the quirky menu and FAQ page.
Beautiful decoration and atmosphere in the restaurant. Sashimi was so fresh and definitely order the recommended dishes on the menu (those with stars)! My favourite was actually the volcano roll which has a great combination of spicy from the hot sauce and crunchy from the tempura batter. The most ordinary roll would be the futomaki roll. Overall great food and service
Love this place. We are having our wedding here because the outdoor area is so lovely. I've been to eat here with various people and every time the food has been excellent. Sashimi is extremely fresh and well presented and their sushi rolls are great. Love the salmon dish with the matcha noodles as well. Definitely a lovely place to go for a date night or special occasion.
Excellent food!! Had lots of try the night I went with my friend. Couldn't fault it! Can't wait to come back next time to try the other food
Excellent dinner the food was amazing loved everything about this place staff were super friendly would differently be going back there reasonable prices
Love it! Hubby and I ordered 5 dishes.
Excellent lamb ribs, super tender and lots of flavor (a bit salty so we ordered a rice to go with).
Super delicious gekko rolls, creamy avocado and tartare sauce just lifted up the unagi to the next level. And very generous portion too for the price.
Chef's recommended tuna 3 ways. Nothing special for this, so probably 3 stars.
Yummy marinated black cod.
Had the special wagyu sirloin grade 7, the most expensive one on the menu. Pretty special they placed it on top of a 400°C (they said so, of course I didn't know) to cook. Sided with potato salad (yum), a shiitake (which I think can be more!), and a bed of rice (a bit funny to go with steak but anyway). Waited this for more than 30 min then we have to cook it ourself :( not very happy with the price of $65!
Anyway we will still return to try out others on the menu.
Love this place. The atmosphere was just right and the staff were so lovely. Big smiles all night as they were serving.
Absolutely loved the black cod, definitely a must have when visiting this restaurant.
Pricing was very good for such a pleasant night. Highly recommended.
Will be back soon!
Went here for anniversary Dinner and it was wonderful. We had the agedashi and friends for entree. Hubby had the cold junmai sake and I had the lychee Mocktail. I had the scallop hotate sushi roll and the sizzling seafood dish which was delicious. Hubby had the steak. Very efficient service and kind staff. We used the entertainment book and saved $60 which was great. Had the mixed ice cream and the green tea was delicious. Highly recommend!
I've always enjoyed my dining experiences at Tsunami and hadn't been in ages so we decided to take advantage of the entertainment card and visit. They have more tapas style dishes now. Between the two of us we tried the Cancun sushi roll (tempura prawn, garlic inside, smoked wagyu on the outside, jalapeño balsamic), Japanese tostada (salmon, tuna, shiromi tartare, avocado, truffle oil, lime), scallop and torched Spanish mackerel ceviche, wagyu beef sukiyaki pot and miso marinated black cod.
It's worth noting that Tsunami has a 1 to 3 star rating on some of their dishes to help you choose from their vast menu.
Both the Cancun roll and marinated black cod were rated 3 stars but they fell short for me. Nice, but I wasn't blown away and the cod was nowhere near as good as Nobu's miso black cod.
The tostadas and ceviche were both 2 star dishes. I loooovedddd the tostadas. Each bite was fresh and tangy but I couldn't taste the advertised truffle oil. The ceviche was pretty average and we didn't didn't finish it. Aside from lemon, there wasn't much flavour to it.
The wagyu sukiyaki hot pot was rated 1 star but probably one of the better dishes of the night. Beef had so much flavour and I loved the combo of thick chewy udon noodles and thin vermicelli. Great winter warmer dish! The soy based sauce left me super duper thirsty though.
Service was good, food came out fast and dishes cleared quickly.
It was hard to get the wait staff's attention initially but it was busy on Saturday night.
Could not fault any of our dishes - they came out in a good order and well timed.
Will go back
Welcome to one of the finest Japanese restaurants in Perth: Tsunami. My wife and I decided to spend our valentine’s dinner at Tsunami, we booked only few hours before dinner time and was lucky enough to get a sit albeit in the terrace.
It’s about 40 minutes drive from our home to Mosmon Park and the place looked rather small and simple from the outside. But as we entered, we entered into a totally different world as the interior was designed to create a luxury dining experience. We walked to the back (and realised that the place was actually quite big) and into the outdoor terrace which was decorated nicely with small lights on the sky (creating a bokeh with the sky as your backdrop) – it was so lovely that wifey even decided to take a picture there. The sitting on the outdoor was placed evenly and nicely with lots of space in between – I even told myself that they could have put more table to cater for more people, but I guess they wanted to prioritize the comfort – which is good of course.
Tsunami’s eating style is more like a sharing type, so you order 5-6 different meals to share. The good thing is their menu is so helpful especially to newbies like us! They have different amount of star indicating different level of recommendation.
We ordered the chicken karaage, gyoza, and sushi to share. I have no complain with those items, all good, the salmon sushi are especially good with its generous topping. They also offer main meal which my wife ordered the salmon and I tried the wagyu grade 7 which was delicious. The wagyu came in a hot stone plate. The only downside is that they put the rice next to the hot stone (it’s on one long plate – if you see the photo – so you can’t take the rice out) making me a bit hard to take the rice. I would prefer they put the rice on a separate bowl/rice.
For the dessert, we try the ice cream sampler and the cream brulle. The ice cream sampler comes in 3 different scoops: green tea (good), black sesame (the best), ginger (not my type). The cream brulle is super awesome: they come in two cup, one normal and the other with black sesame at the bottom. The waiter burned the top part in front of us adding another layer to our dining experience.
It was a perfect evening. Very friendly and informative staff, easy parking along the road, great atmosphere/background, and most of all, super delicious food!
Still my favourite restaurant!
Delicious sushi
At a reasonable price
I highly recommend the sliders
The ribs,
And the black sesame ice cream
I over ordered due to too many delicious dishes!
Staff a friendly and prompt and the service is quick!
The quality of food is on the money!
A tsunami of flavours that punch you in the mouth
A must try
Very, very satisfied. After a long, lovely day in Perth, eating at Tsunami was, for me, the perfect end. The menu is very much designed for sharing. There were limited vegetarian options, and my brother and I shared all but one. They were all delicious. The vegetarian tempura, vegetarian rolls and Agedashi and Friends dish were all excellent and the green tea finished the meal off nicely. My father was a little less satisfied, as the meals (as I have previously mentioned) are designed for sharing, and as the only meat eater, he had to order fewer dishes, and didn't get to experience as much of a variety. The food was presented nicely (my photos were rushed, because I was too eager to eat, so please excuse them) and the restaurant was well set out and very comfortable to be in. Would highly recommend!
I don't know many other places that serve nabemono or sukiyaki. Here it is served in wide pots, good for sharing between 2-3 people and it is tasty.
We've been here quite a few times before but it's been inconsistent in food and service. Tonight we had our monthly girls catch up and we sat in the garden area with the fairy lights. Food was delicious, fresh salmon and good service. Glad to have given it another go
Yum yum yum! Lovely attention to detail service, cool decor and chef was a joy to watch. The food! I could not point out one fault even if I tried. Wagyu melts in your mouth, seafood meal was perfectly cooked loved the prawn with the crispy grilled skin gave texture to each bite, sake recommended was exactly what we asked for. It was the perfect choice for our 7th anniversary dinner!

I am in love with whoever wrote their menu and FAQ. Not only does it have so many amazing food options on it, there's so much personality! The little comments on some of the menu items and pretty much the whole FAQ page make me giggle! I especially love their distaste for teriyaki chicken. I completely agree with it too. Anyway, enough gushing about the menu. Now to gush about the food. It was so good. Everything we tried. Definitely make sure you get a steak on the volcanic rock. And I love love love their outdoor (yet still undercover) functions area with the gorgeous fairy light canopy under a leafy canopy! If I get married, this is where I want it to be. I love this place.
Back in July, Tsunami Japanese Restaurant in Mosman Park hosted their first ever SuperSake “Matsuri” Festival which was held over 2 days (July 18th and 19th) to promote their new venture “SuperSake”. I was lucky enough to be invited by the lovely host, Milan Rai, to attend as a guest to sample sake from the 55 different types on offer.

Located in the heart of Mosman Park is Tsunami Japanese restaurant. It has been a long time since my last visit to Tsunami and I was so excited to visit it again and this time with a group of dining partners. Tsunami evokes many memorable memories to me, in particular, my 18th which was held at Tsunami. With an extensive drinks and food menu, I always find it hard to decide what to order at Tsunami just because everything sounds good!
The restaurant itself is very nice and filled with warmth. Great ambiance. You feel excited to be there walking in. Staff are friendly. The food is well above average but in comparison to somewhere like Ocean's in Fremantle. The food is overpriced with no real justification like superior quality to explain why.
If your thinking about dining here, definately recommend to dine at the back. It is absolutely beautiful. Love the way they have it set up. The staff here are really friendly and super helpful with the choices of food.
Definately was good to see the owner interacting with the customers, don't see that often in restaurants.
Food here is good though I wouldn't say the greatest for what the price was.
Ordered a lot of different entrées. Really enjoyed the beef sliders, when they brought it out it was a lot bigger than what I had in mind.
Overall I really enjoyed the experience.
Easily the best Sushi I've ever had. The volcano roll is too delicious. Sesame ice cream is also a winner. Only problem I have with it is it's too far from my hood.
Last night, Scott and I were invited to dine at Tsunami Japanese Restaurant in Mosman Park. I was so incredibly excited as Japanese cuisine is my favourite! We were invited to review the restaurant as part of their SuperSake Festival promotions. Tsunami are hosting their first Super Sake Festival on July 18th and 19th of July, where guests have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of traditional Sake and Japanese foods. Sake is a brewed rice beverage that is typically alcoholic and is derived from fermented rice. Due to my surgery coming up, I am unable to drink alcohol and therefore unable to sample any of the sake on offer, Scott did though and we were so fortunate for the “Sake Lesson” we received also. Milan, the event organiser and the kitchen supervisor shared so many interesting facts about Sake which they ensured the guests of the Sake Festival would hear also. It is sometimes overwhelming at traditional restaurants as you want to try the cultural foods but don’t want to offend or order incorrectly. We were so fortunate to be given the ins-and-outs as what sake to drink with what foods and when. Milan told us that Sake is typically like wine in that it has many different flavours and elements and therefore they recommend it with different dishes. Traditionally, hot sake is enjoyed with cold dishes such as sushi or sashimi or when the temperatures are freezing and snowing!
I went to Tsunami to celebrate my grandma's birthday and I was so excited, especially because I always mesmerised by sizzling steak on hot volcanic rock. It's a bit like having a personal stove in a fancy restaurant. Depending on how expert you are, you can cook your steak from medium rare to well done level. This way, none of the staff can be blamed if the steak wasn't cooked to perfection (tee-hee).
Tsunami offers a romantic ambiance from the dimmed light as well as thousand fairy lights that they put on. When we went there they had a live jazz duo which really add to the beautiful atmosphere. Tsunami is a good place to have functions (birthday, wedding, etc) and they also provide their professional photography service throughout the function.
We ordered sliders, sushi rolls, quail gyoza for starters and our food came out promptly. The service of the night was good because the waitstaff were attentive to our needs of tea and water. Everyone enjoyed their experience of cooking their own steak. I am not an expert on beef tenderness, but the wagyu grade 7 from Mayura that my uncle ordered was really tender and juicy. The sukiyaki set was huge for $28 and it was served with shiitake and enokitake. My cousin was having difficulty of finishing the sukiyaki but really happy with the portion.
At the end of the night, everyone rolled out of Tsunami with happy faces and full tummy.
Love this place for the tapas style modern japanese appetisers.
I prefer to order a sharing selection every time I come, as there is just so much on the menu that is awesome. Sushi rolls are beautifully presented, tempura is light and crisp, sashimi comes straight from the ocean. Thumbs up.
Great experience and service.
Black sesame ice cream ... Omg :-) !
Beautiful food & good service. Loved the drinks and food
If I can suggest one change- to change the vertical Mandarin banner to something in Japanese- ie sayings, proverb or haiku
I attended a wedding here, absolutely marvellous location for an event. The garden is just magical and service was superb.
Superbly Delicious!. My husband and I tried this restaurant out for the first time and we were so pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Our hostess (Flora) was so inviting, friendly and informative on the menu. She made our experience so memorable.
The bartender (Lendel) makes a really amazing cocktail called Afternoon Tea hangover, which is green tea with vodka and lime. At first I wasn't too sure about the combination but WOW!
We'll be back for sure!
Thank you very much for a lovely night and such yummy food.
Brilliant!. Great host, great food, great place! will definitely be back.
The host took the time to explain the menu to us and answered all our questions, not to mention the food is actually very good.
Ordered the cancun roll and wagyu steak. The only problem I am having now is thinking whether I should order the same thing or order something else when I am back there!!!
Great gourmet food.. I don't recommend the salmon 3 ways as it was drenched in too much lemon. However the sushi rolls especially the Cancun Rolls and Hotate Rolls were delightful.
Toothfish dish was also great, should have it a bowl of steamed rice. Lamb ribs was full of flavors and again should also eat with rice as its quite salty.
We didn't have the chance to have the volcanic mains as entrées were more appealing. 5 dishes of entrees, 3 wines, 2 beers, 2 coffees came to $160.
Slow Tsunami ... Not Seen at Best ...Weeknight Business Meal. Initial view - quality - situation was early dining to avoid traffic pileup - a vegetarian in our midst found one or two options only BUT food presentation was good - sudden influx of people seemed to cause a ripple of panic - the restaurant is smallish ....hmmm ...drinks a little slow and one order was forgotten looked like the owner/manager too? ...ouch, so maybe not seen at its best ...my guests will not be returning, especially the vegetarian and the bill when compared to the service, being forgotten etc did not rate well with anyone.
New menu items enjoyable. We come to Tsunami a few times a year and always have an enjoyable experience. The sashimi is always fresh and tasty, so that was no surprise, and my wife (who is Japanese) is always a sucker for a good tonkatsu and really enjoyed this one. The new Hokkaido Nabe pot was really tasty, with miso and chili flavours - the soup is delicious just to drink on its own! Other new items we tried this time were the SSS squid salad which was nice and spicy with tender squid, the beef yakiniku sliders which are not for those watching their weight but are damn tasty, and the really surprising Wagyu Kofta meatballs - the sauce is something else, sweet and deliciously unexpected.
Nice to see these new additions to an already solid and comprehensive menu.
Good service, nice ambience, enjoyable food.. I had a very enjoyable dinner with my family at Tsunami yesterday.
The food was delicious, seafood was fresh and wagyu steak was creamy, juicy and I enjoyed every bit of it.
Definitely coming back again.
Staff was polite and decor was perfect for a comfortable dinner.
Totally scrumptious!. Took them a considerable time to give us the menu and we were about to give up having dinner there... I'm glad we didn't leave! Once they started giving us some attention, the service was actually very good. The food was PERFECT! Absolutely delicious: we had the lamb ribs (twice as it was really awesome),the Cancun Rolls and the Large sashimi. We'll definitely go back there!
Loved it! Would recommend a selection of the entree's to share with the table rather than the stone grills. Gyoza's were delicious!!
Scrumptious. I find it very good. Food is delicious. Manager is fantastic. My favourite dish is the prawns and soft shell crab. Lamb ribs are beautiful. And the salmon and green tea noodles, scrumptious. All my friends adore them.
Tsunami never fails to disap.... Tsunami never fails to please. Their wait staff are so friendly and helpful, always attending to any need, happy to be of service. The atmosphere is lovely and romantic, and the food is just beautiful. Will definitely be going back soon.
Great find in Perth. I couldn't fault the food, and whilst its not "cheap" I thought it was excellent value for the quality.
Between three of us we had miso soups, small sashimim, a Stone grilled Waygu (melt in mouth tender and tasty), a seafood combination Sukiyaki Nabe, and a small serve of rice and an eel sushi roll which with drinks all came to $120, so $40 a head. I would definitely go back if I lived in Perth and have encouraged my parents to go as they live around the area. My brother and sister in law will return if they can get sitters :).
My small criticism was the service wasn't great but then I don't speak Japanese so who am I to complain that I couldn't be understood. At the end of the evening the lovely staff showed us around the restaurant next door which was all teppanyaki, maybe next time as this would be great for private functions too.
Lovely night out. After reading reviews I was keen to go. We went in a small group of three and we all loved it and agreed we would go back anytime. The dishes we ordered were all beautiful, so fresh, light and flavoursome. On next visit I don't think I
would do the cooking our own on the hot rock, because the smaller dishes were so amazing I would rather be able to try more of those. Desserts are basic, having said that though the sampler plate of ginger, blackbean and green tea icecream was a delight. The other thing I really liked about Tsunami was although it was busy, it was not noisy at all, so we could hear each other, nice calm surroundings, which is becoming a bit of a rarity when dining out. We thought it was a lovely evening out and certainly didn't break the bank.
Great sushi. Very tasty sushi yum yum
Superb Tamagoyaki. Highlights: Edamame, fresh sashimi (Buri a standout) and Tamagoyaki (best in Perth - so good we had more serves of this instead of dessert)!
Superb. Excellent food, service, atmosphere, and although pricey it's well worth it.
It's nice to be back again with my family. The food was pretty good and fresh but a little delayed. The new gyoza is not as good as the ones before. However the staff are very accommodating and the service has been very consistent that makes up for it. The lady in black is very helpful and prompt and get us exactly what we needed. Place is still great and we'll probably come back again.
Amazing experience. After reading many reviews, my family and I were very excited to try out this place---very creative dishes and excellent price. The staff was amazing.Easily one of the most fun restaurant experiences and one of the best ambiances. I like the fact that most of the staff is asian, and they were so polite and nice.... It kinda adds to the experience.
You need to try the volcano sushi stuff which was recommended by one the awesome staff...It was crazy delicious...definitely going there again ....
They've had a recent menu change and a few favourites seem to be missing. However our food was still wonderful. Only down side was the inability of the staff to split our bill into two separate card transactions - they us we could only split the bill if we did it equally, which was strange as we had done the math ourselves and knew one couple needed to pay more than the other. A little flexibility in their customer service would have avoided a sour end to a lovely meal.
Always a winner!. I went to Tsunami for my brothers birthday. The staff greeted us happily and seated us. The service throughout the meal wasn't exceptional but the staff were attentive and helpful when asked.
For starters we were amazed by the selection of sushi rolls. we ordered the kani kani and the geko rolls, both of which were absolutely delicious and would recommend to anyone who loves adventurous food.
Both of my young siblings ordered a bento box style meal to which they both chowed down eagerly.
I ordered my regular, the stone grill with mixed fish. The fish is always good quality and the servings are generous.
My mojito was also delicious. I'd say tsunami is pricey, but worth every cent!
Good service! Good food!. Very nice food! Service is very good, our order came faster than expected which was great because we were really hungry! We were surprised that the price was still very reasonable, though. The staff was helpful and we really enjoyed it. Our dining experience at Tsunami is very good and would recommend the place for a great dining experience if you have extra dough and plans to treat yourself, family or friends.
Ive been here many times now. I love the food, especially the tempura soft shell crab and spicy prawns. The service can be hit or miss. But it's worth it for the food!
What's not to like?. Cute little Japanese place in Mosman park. Be brave and go for the chef's menu (give them a little guidance and the chef does the rest). Meticulous presentation. Fine flavours. Beware though - portions are on the smaller side
My fav restaurant. Been the.... My fav restaurant.
Been there 3 times and ther service and food are excellent.
Love their wagu beef and sushi so muchhhh
Japanese @ It's Best. Enjoyed Tsunami for dinner after a Sunday Sesh at The Lefty. Was lucky enough to get a booking for 4 only 1 hour before dining. The Restaraunt looks small from the front however going down the corridor opens up to an amazing open planned layout over looking a garden. We ordered the Seafood Combination Stone Grill & Kani Kani Roll for Entree. For mains I had the Takusan Ashii (Prawns & Softshell Crab) & Jidori (Chicken Drumsticks with Spicy Sauce). All dishes packed huge japanese traditional flavor with the Soft Shell Crab being a stand out. This is a venue I will be returning to with the Girlfriend and is a must for a first date. Until next time ... 8/10.
Service average, lovely food!

The best!!. This is our new favourite Japanese restaurant. we are going going to going back to try everything on the menu. great selection on the menu and nice atmosphere.
.......a Mid-week Delight. Four of us went on a Tuesday night and it was just perfect – busy without being crowded, wonderful food, sensational wine list and outstanding service.
Recommendations would be: - Wagyu & Jumbo Prawn Ishiyaki Stonegrill (No.71), the New Style Sashimi Stonegrill (No. 76) or the Teriyaki Chicken bento box (No. 30).
Tsunami has a large wine list which caters for all budgets. It runs from those which are inexpensive to some that would break my wallet.
Food was delicious but like so many other places in Perth portions were average making it an expensive restaurant
Service was above average
Pianist was awful and unnecessary !
Bit different this place in that it’s not all traditional Japanese, but very good all the same. The Wagyu beef is a must try.
Ins step down from excellent. My favourite was the quail. Excellent service.
Excellnt. Great date restaurant. food is amazing. cant go past the toothfish and the waygu sirloin. def go back.
This is my favorite restaurant! Amazing food, quirky menus, great service and lovely ambiance, whether seated at the front room inside, down the back, outside or function area. 10 out of 10!
Sophisticated Japanese. Food was beautifully presented and my sashimi was so fresh. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough of it! I noticed we had a pushy waitress but the others were very lovely. We had a coupon that wasn't valid on the day, but the lady at the counter was really nice and didn't make us feel embarrassed at all! Will be back on another special occasion :)
Wanted to go to Tsunami for ages, but not what I expected. I have always wanted to try Tsunami for a year or two now, and a friend had been raving about how good the restaurant is, so we went to celebrate a birthday there. FIrst off, the place is like a hidden restaurant and not where you would expect it to be, which was nice. The decor choice is definitely interesting, making the place seem quirky (especially the menu, and the hilarious FAQ page).
The staff were really friendly, and patient with us, but we felt that the service was a bit off. Staff weren't really attentive to us at times, and it wasn't really that busy (on a week day).
We ordered a few entrees, which were nice. I didn't really like the gyoza, but I was put off with the soft shell crab and how oily it tasted (made me lose my appetite a bit). All the other entrees look great, though.
I was impressed with my main (I got the teppenyaki wagyu) which tasted great and I found that it was priced accurately. My wagyu in the end was cooked perfectly and how I like it (medium rare)... I left it on for about 5 mins, turning it often, making sure it wasn't too burnt. The one with the noodles (sorry, can't remember the name!) looked really good, and my boyfriend really enjoyed it (he eats a lot, too!).
Staff had told me that they had run out of strawberry daiquiri, so I was happy to order the tsunami punch instead, which was delicious. We later found out that they charged us for the daiquiri even though I got the punch, but they were happy to refund back the difference, but we're not going to bother. They also charged us for two of one of the entrees when we only ordered one, and said that the chefs and waiters have all said that they gave us two (when we ASKED for ONE). We vividly remembered that only one came out, and their responses did not correspond at all with what we remembered. After complaining about the service, they offered a complimentary cocktail next time.
I'd probably go back to Tsunami but not any time soon, after the service we encountered, and having issues with the bill. I'm not sure why they would give us two plates of one entree when we asked for one.
AWESOME. BEST JAPANESE IN PERTH!
Love this place. Great Food Great Service Great Location!
Best hidden japanese in perth!
Lovely. So I took my partner here for our aniversary last month.
A little pricey but worth it.
I will be back!
Blend of traditional and new. I've been going to Tsunami regularly since it opened. The quality of the food is consistently good. They have very traditional Japanese dishes and dishes blending with other cuisines. The ambiance is pleasant and I enjoy my visits there. Plus, the manager plays the piano if you ask him nicely.
I've been coming to this restaurant for years. The food is amazing, well worth the wait and the price!
Fantastic as always. Tsunami is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth. The atmosphere is always pleasant, the food is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.
Great fish tempora. Awesome service.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Mosman Park. The proprietor Brett Carboni always looks after us fabulously. The food is always wonderful and the service is superlative.
Had the sukiyaki and it was bulk tasty
This is an awesome place. Everything I've tried so far has been fantastic, and the service is wonderful. Highly recommend!
Excellent!. We ate here on a Saturday night when a weddin was being hosting in the rear function room but their service did not suffer because of it. They were booked up but made room for us to dine until 8pm which I thought was quite fair as we got there around 6:30.
We ordered the tsnumai roll for entree which was the BEST sushi roll I have ever had and then the volcanic rock beef for main to share which was delicious. Was also cool to watch your steak cook to your liking on your table.
We both had some wine and after using our Entertainment Gold Card, the lot ended up being $30 each. Great price for such a nice restaurant.
OMG.....amazing!. I went here with 2 of my girlfriends and all I can say is...amazing! We used a voucher from the entertainment book and ordered the tasting plate as it was the first time visiting for all of us. Decor was sublime and intimate, with a menu to match. Dessert was creme brule that I suggest not sharing, yes it's that good! Bit pricey will have to go again on pay day...yummo indeed!
Enjoyable, tasty and understated. I'd advise checking the menu prior to your arrival if you are a Japanese dining novice as it is extensive and somewhat overwhelming. Not that that's a bad thing at all. The prices are such that you can make a mistake (avoid the 'beans') and not be too miffed. I'd go again.
An Enjoyable Night. Tsunami has been around for years but I only finally got to dine there last night (we generally always got distracted by the wonderful Twisted Fork across the road which sadly has closed and will be a new restaurant soon).
Yes, I think there was a lot of hype about Tsunami but hype doesn't happen without good food and atmosphere actually being present. Quite often, the Achilles' Heel of most Perth restaurants is consistency so it's no surprise to me that reviews are a bit mixed here.
As for our night at Tsunami, it was fantastic! The menu boasted a lot of the ubiquitous crowd pleasers (Cali rolls, tempura, etc.) as well as the more underrated items of authentic Japanese cuisine such as pork belly 'kakuni' style and natto. We had a starting round of Cali rolls (done beautifully with fresh seafood), Popcorn Shrimp and Agedashi & Friends (a fantastic dish for vegetarians and featured flavours I hadn't had since living in Japan!). We were dining with children so the pair shared a Teriyaki Chicken bento box which was perfect. Very good chicken with accompaniments that the kids actually enjoyed.
We felt pretty full at this point but ordered Lamb Tetsuya (with a tasty miso seasoning) and some beef tataki and uni (sea urchin, lightly torched) sushi for me. All delicious!
The price? It probably is on the expensive side for sushi/tempura but most people have been spoilt by the gazillion mid-priced, good (and not so good) sushi joints out there so paying over $15 a serve might raise some eyebrows. What you do get at Tsunami though, is the good, good stuff. No mayonnaise drowned tinned tuna fillings here.
I don't believe Tsunami is more expensive than a meal at Satsuki or Haru, which are two similar calibre Japanese restaurants in Perth. If you are clever about things, your bill doesn't have to be sky-high. A few entree items and one ishiyaki main course should satisfy two people of medium appetite. If you also dine and finish before 7pm, you benefit from their Early Bird discount of 25%.
The diner itself is a rather sexy place. My hubby found the booths a bit squeezy so if you like to throw your legs around, be sure to book a table with chairs. If the weather isn't cold, dining outside in the garden area is a good plan if you're having ishiyaki (holy smoke!) or want to avoid ishiyaki smoke.
The only negatives I can point out is the lack of kids ice-cream desserts. My pair actually enjoyed the Yukimi Daifuku (vanilla ice cream in mochi casing) but otherwise only ginger, green tea or black sesame are on offer. Also, as I hinted at before, sitting inside while an entire table of diners do ishiyaki makes for a smoky night.
We had no issues with staff or food delivery. Everyone was polite and helpful, and we were done and dusted under 2 hours.
Overall, Tsunami offers a quirky and cool edge to a very pleasing Japanese menu. I look forward to going again and hope that consistency is on their side.
Amazing Place to eat!. Having travelled through Japan, this restaurant truly captures a all that I miss of Japan. When you travel and eat through Japan some meals are a little hard to decide upon. Tsunami has blended Japanese traditional cuisine so beautifully to suit a Western audience, maintaining so much integrity. The staff are so attentive and atmosphere so romantic with a cosy feel. I love a restaurant that prides itself in a buildings little quirks. You are able to sneak a peek into the kitchen as you walk out to the back of the restaurant...I love that! I love the genuine treatment of staff with the manager(s) always present and very much a part of the team, clearing dishes and pouring your water.
Our favourite Japanese restaurant in Perth!
Missing them.... I miss this place since moving from Mossie Park. If you're after authentic Japanese, don't bother. If you are open to a fusion of Aussie and Japanese, if you're open to experimenting with your dining experience, this is the place for you.
Yummy, interesting and outside of the box. Sure, a little pricey but I believe, worth it.
Yummy. We had a selection of meals and we couldn't fault any of them. The oysters were well balanced with chilli and the sashimi was fresh. Will be back.
Great food, service in a cool restaurant. The sukiyaki is lovely.
Some things are ok. Yes, Tsunami is a little hyped up.
There are good things going for it though, the decor, the service and general vibe make for a great feeling restaurant.
The presentation of the meals is also delightful, but the quality and flavours are a bit hit and miss. I'd expect a bit more consistency and a higher standard considering the higher pricing of dishes at this restaurant.
Still, it's a nice place to go with special friends and I would go again, but maybe I'd stick to the dishes they are good at.
3 out of 5
A gorgeous 200g hunk of beef arrived already sizzling on the hot rock. This marbled beauty (grade 7) was the highlight of our night
