Review Bathers' Pavilion - Mosman

The first thing that impresses you at first arrival is the Hampton style furnishings and interiors! It’s absolutely stunning. It’s quite a large place too, it has a few different sections, from casual to more fine dining depending on what kind of meal you’re wanting. The food is nothing short of fabulous to match the entire experience! Definitely worth a visit. If it’s good weather the vista is unsurpassed 👌🏽

Superb location, incredible place to sit by the water and have lunch. Service was a bit up and down, some good, some not so good. The table we sat at was very uncomfortable because of the way it’s designed you could barely get your legs under the table and had to have them at an angle and move them. Food was ok, the oysters were great but everything else was a bit lacking for taste and seasoning, although it was presented immaculately.

Betel Leaf did not disappoint!! The food was amazing with so much flavour. Our group ordered the banquet and everything was beautifully presented!! The service was impeccable and outstanding!! I would highly recommend the barramundi and the pork belly. Compliments to the chef and the wait staff as our night was perfect in every way!! Overall it was a lovely dining experience and I cannot wait to return.

Bathers takeaway has really lifted its game with the best coffee around. The girls serving are doing a fantastic job. I had the bacon and egg roll this morning - you have to get that order in before 11.30am. $9.50 is a good price from Bathers. The bun was fresh and toasted lightly, the bacon was not burnt and tasty, the egg was slightly over cooked - I bet if I asked for runny next time, I would get that. Most importantly was that the meal was hot. Delicious!

Beautiful selection of food and drinks. All made with quality ingredients and to perfection. Delicious food and lovely environment to sit and enjoy whilst looking out over the beach. Staff were polite and attentive.

Haven’t stopped thinking about my last meal here! Delicious ~ perfectly portioned, memorable food and experience, staff exceptionally professional. Ambience is very fwancy and welcoming, and the views divine. Loved the chilled vibe and good good great food. Highly recommend! I want to go every week!

This place probably doesn’t need another review but we really enjoyed food and ambiance. My eggs Benedict were perfect and had really generous serving of delicious ham . Look forward to visit next time for lunch or dinner

Very good customer service and so much delicious food to choose from. I dined in here and it was a wonderful treat with such great service and nice people surrounding me I 100% recommend this restaurant and definitely recommend you to go here. With a great view of the beach this is one of the best locations a restaurant can be!

The food was delicious and the service was amazing. Despite being vey busy, the staff made everyone feel special. We were celebrating belated Valentine’s Day and they gave us a delicious compliment as a dessert 😊 I would highly recommend the raspberry cheesecake for dessert. Everything else was top notch too. Thank you. Will be back.

The Bathers Pavilion is an elegant venue in a spectacular setting, with renowned chef and co-owner Serge Dansereau at the helm. It is so disappointing that the service is lacking (in experience, professionalism and any interest at all in its diners) and the food is so poorly executed.<br/><br/>At breakfast my friend, a vegan, ordered sourdough with avocado and I ordered the fritters. The sourdough with avocado came to the table with an egg, so had to go back to kitchen and the fritters were cold ( which when pointed out received the question "what would you like to do?") so also went back to the kitchen.<br/><br/>The sourdough and avocado sans egg came to the table and this time was OK - not spectacular or even great. After my friend had almost finished her breakfast (and she is quite a slow eater), my fritters turned up, this time warm, but inedible due to their saltiness. <br/><br/>When plates were cleared, given one meal was almost not touched, I expected to be asked was something wrong - I wasn't, so pointed out how salty the fritters were, simply to receive the response "Oh, OK."<br/><br/>Sadly this is the second similarly bad experience for breakfast here, so wont be going back again. I sometimes wonder whether people get caught up in the atmosphere and hype of restaurants when they write reviews - because The Bathers has received some good ones - because the problems with Service and Food are not one-offs, rather they show a lack of training and oversight.

Great location and nice view of the beach. Unfortunately the food is too ordinary for the price. Disappointing.

This place is wonderful to take tourists, and even for a Christmas party or romantic evening but It is a bit expensive. A bottle of sparkling water is $8, which is a bit rich. The food was good, the highlight being the calamari and zucchini. The views are spectacular, which almost makes the prices worthwhile, but it’s really only appropriate for special occasions.

Nothing better than brekkie at the Bathers. What a view! So relaxing to chill out on a Saturday morning. And the food's great as well! They make a mean blueberry pancake here. And it's always service with a smile.
Hungry Diner
A very beautiful venue with very welcoming service. <br/><br/>We had the degustation with matching wines.<br/><br/>The oysters were out of this world, tuna tartare, pork cheek, octopus with orange purée, lamb with date purée.<br/><br/>The wine selection was nice and complimented the dishes well.<br/><br/>The location is right on the sand and the venue has an amazing vibe. <br/><br/>

Lunch here on Australia Day with offering 50% off the 3 course menu. Food was good and well presented, however the head-wait made us felt humiliating, he placed us in a table right next to the entrance door though the whole restaurant was almost empty when we arrive and already asked for window seat in while making reservation days ago. We approached him asking suggestions about cocktail and fish, he yelled at us as if we were school students. Will never come back.

We had an amazing time at Bathers' Pavilion a few weeks ago. My partner had told the restaurant that he would be proposing after dinner and would need to leave by a certain time. They were so discrete (I had no clue), they were so attentive and looked after us so well. The food was beautiful and the view was amazing. The manager (?) took some wonderful photos for us too. Thank you Bathers' Pavilion for a wonderful time!

Second visit for the year and pretty disappointing experience. Ludicrously overpriced.  On the positive side, the view is outstanding and our party was given a nice window table.   Service was ok, a little slow to fill wine glasses and starters were served to the wrong guests.  No big deal but you expect better.  The bread was delicious, thankfully, as we needed plenty of it to make up for the miserable portions.  <br/>My Yellowfin tuna tartare appetiser was very tasty, beautifully presented and a definite highlight, albeit pretty small.  It's a starter so ok, can live with that.  <br/>The lamb rump with confit belly main I can only describe as a bad joke.  3 pieces of lamb no bigger than a 20c piece each, and a quarter of that fat.  A miserable serve of couscous and 3 or 4  "organic carrot" pieces the size of fingernails.  Honestly I thought we left that portion size behind in the 90's.  Taste was good, albeit not outstanding.  I am not some overweight glutton;  unfortunately this meal would not satisfy a child.  Basically insulting.  I had to order more bread to save a trip to Macca's on the way home.  $105 for 2 courses.  Don't think so.

A Friday afternoon so well spent at this beautiful restaurant on the edge of the beach. The salads were amazing, the cocktails well made and the mains to die for. <br/>A must reserve for anyone going to this part of town. Well done.
On The Food Hunt
Went here with dimmi offering 50% off the 3 course menu. The food was good, the service prompt. The entrees and mains were nice but I think the flavors could have been balanced a bit better. I really enjoyed the passion fruit dessert. That was a highlight and probably a 8/10. The raspberry, rose dessert was ok. We had the mushroom consume and the pork for entree and then the duck and cod with linguine for main. Overall it was good value at 50% off but I wouldn’t want to pay $110 for the 3 courses

The place which I would put in top 3 breakfast places in Sydney. <br/>Always great customer service and well designed menu.<br/>Coffee nice as always. Not hot, not cold, not burned, not sweet,- just a normal, tasty delicious coffee. That’s what we all want, right?<br/>Food is a separate chat though. I don’t know who is doing this magic, but whatever we eat here is simply the best food we ever had every time. You simply can’t go wrong with any choice from their menu. I would recommend to try Bathers rice bowl while it’s on the menu. Interesting composition and healthy ingredients if you’re trying to get ready for the beach season but still want to spoil yourself with something tasty.

I came to Bathers Pavilion using Dimmis 50% off deal for their 3 course meal. Located just next to Balmoral beach, the venue at Bathers has it all. Sea views, themed decors and spacious cushioned chairs. The food at bathers also didn't disappoint - the seafood were all cooked to perfection and the desserts were beautifully presented. However, the flavouring of some of their dishes could be improved on, for example the sesame oil seasoning on the tuna tartare was way too overpowering. Also, their service did not live up to the standard of their venue. The waiter who served us was unenthusiastic and did not properly explain our dishes to us when served. <br/><br/>Although I loved my dining experience at Bathers, I probably would not come back without the 50% off Dimmi deal. $110 for a 3 course lunch is just too steep for me and I believe I can eat better food in Sydney at that price point. <br/><br/>* RECOMMENDED DISHES *<br/>- For starters: Oysters (They serve 8 fresh Sydney rock oysters as starters - so worth it!) <br/>- For main: Poached Murray cod with squid linguine, squid ink crumble, cauliflower and dashi (This was favourite dish of the day. The flavours of the different components just complements each other so well and the dish was also visually stunning.) <br/>- For dessert: Raspberry and vanilla petits gateaux pistachio, rose petal ice cream, strawberry jus (That rose petal ice cream though, mhm so good.) <br/><br/>* RATING * <br/>Food: 4/5 <br/>Venue: 5/5<br/>Service: 3/5

Love the location of this place. It’s located right in front of the beach you can look out from the windows to an amazing view. The food here is average. I did enjoy the mains, the duck and the beef. The beef was cooked perfectly, medium rare. The desserts were a big let down. They were both really heavy. My fave part was the bread platter. So many options. I love when places have bread, butter and salt.

Awesome food, great service and atmosphere! Will go back again definitely <br/>Waiters are attentive, friendly and nice. They gave me very good window seat and even sunset is gone but the view is still awesome

Came here for my girlfriend’s 21st birthday dinner with the Dimmi 50% dining offer. Best dining experience I’ve had to date - food, service/staff, venue all superb and couldn’t fault anything. The diverse mix of flavours in each course was a true experience, and right on the beach. Must go!

This restaurant has to be one of the worst. $400 and you’ll still be starving. Food is minuscule and boring.<br/>The only salvage in the view of balmoral, otherwise the decor and ambience is so dated and depressing. Spend your $$$ elsewhere.

What a fabulous location! It's hard to beat this historic old site, right on the sand, as a wonderful restaurant venue. Sadly this place falls into that Sydney category of view>food, and the crowds! Breakfast might have been quieter at the train station. Have been for breakfast and dinner here and both times have been disappointed by the food, and the pricing. The portions are generous, so there’s that.  With so much more to try in Sydney we'll probably come back with out of town guests.

We had heard many good things about this restaurant and decided to try it on a Sunday night after being tempted by the Dimmi half price dining offer. The location was stunning especially on a summer's evening, the setting was pleasant with most tables getting a good view of the beach. We had the 5 course degustation which was very enjoyable - the fish and meat dishes were perfectly cooked and flavours were well-balanced and refined.  The generous bread basket, amuse bouche and petit fours were a lovely nice touch. Service was non-intrusive and professional.

There is no doubt the setting is amazing. And the food is also very good. A group of 8 of us dined here on Sunday and, even with the location and the meal, we all left very disappointed.<br/><br/>We were completely ignored by waitstaff the entire time. No-one came and introduced themselves/the restaurant; no-one came to take our drinks orders; no-one came to take our food orders. We literally had to wave people over to get their attention and even then they seemed to be avoiding eye contact. They would simply write our orders down and scurry away. And when meals were delivered there was no explanation given. When you are paying a mandatory $120 for 3 courses you expect a certain level of service and certain type of personality. They couldn't have been more disinterested and inattentive, which just ruined the whole experience for us.

The Bathers' Pavilion is an impressive dining destination at Balmoral Beach which is synonymous to the history of the community. Built by the Mosman council in 1928, the imposing landmark was a large changing shed for beachgoers and equipped with modern sanitary facilities.<br/><br/>The restaurant, which overlooks the energetic beach, offers a compelling menu of French leaning dishes. The appetizer, a slowed cooked pork cheek with smoked yoghurt carrot and dipped in chicken and pork stock, was absolutely mind boggling. The soft silky pork cheek melts at the tip of my tongue and dissipates a savoury burst of flavours.<br/><br/>The main dish, a duck breast with miso eggplant and accompanied by orange and carrot purée, hibiscus and duck jus, was a miss more than a hit. The tongue tickling miso overpowers the natural flavour of the eggplant and everything else whereas the duck breast was tough and unchewable. <br/><br/>The dessert, a passion fruit mousse with varholna dulcey blond chocolate turmeric and lemon sauce and passion fruit sorbet, was a nice conclusion. The sour and acidic sorbet serves as an detoxifying natural diuretic and stimulates my gastrointestinal tract. <br/><br/>A worthy and decent and dining restaurant. The service is prompt and I do not have to wait for hours between courses (Just 5-7 minutes). However, the main dish was probably too disappointing.
Dreamer Down Under
Relaxing atmospher and child friendly restaurant who also is very accommodating when it comes to pregnant women dietary requirements and changes to our table order. We had 3 birthdays, 2 pregnant women, a toddler requiring a high chair, and 2 people arriving late so couldn't join the rest for the degustation. All were taken care of. We weren't rushed at all which was great. Degustation menu was top notch but on the meaty side. Kids meal comes with a dessert off the normal menu. However no palate cleanser mid way though. It's in the Entertainment Book so you get 25% off up to $50 per card, max 3 cards per table.
Tortuguita Comiendo
I had always wanted to come here but when a friend told me about the special offer you get on your birthday I took a day off work to go have lunch here and it was the best decision ever. <br/><br/>The service was exceptional. Staff were attentive yet also provided space for us to enjoy our day together and the beautiful view if the beach through the big windows. <br/><br/>The best part obviously was the food. I strtted with the Fiery Mexican a cocktail of tequila, triple sec, grapefruit and chilli which was served in a salted glass. It was definitely fiery with the chilli coming through the drink as well as the salt rim. <br/><br/>Shortly after we ordered our food we were served freshly baked beads that were made in house with two types of salt (Murray River pink salt and white rock salt) and two types of butter, salted and unsalted. Then before the entrees were served we were served an amuse bouche of pork terrine with mushroom puree and hazelnut crumb. <br/><br/>For entrée, we ordered venison tartare and slow cooked pork. The venison tartare was well complimented with a chestnut puree, chestnut chips and homemade grape mustard and black garlic. The grape mustard brought a great hit of favour to the dish. The slow cooked pork literally melted in your mouth. <br/><br/>For mains we had duck breast and beef tenderloin. The duck was perfectly cooked and the miso eggplant that came with it provided a nice salty accompaniment. The coffee crumbed beef cheek was unusual yet delicious.<br/><br/>Finally, dessert was the best end of passionfruit mousse with Valrhona Dulcey blond chocolate turmeric and lemon sauce, passionfruit sorbet and chestnut cream financier blueberries, meringue, chestnut ice cream. Passionfruit really shone through. However I couldn't really taste the tumeric. The chestnut cream was very subtle yet delicious. <br/><br/>Overall, a lovely way to celebrate a birthday.

Such a lovely venue with beach views and a calm interior. We ordered the bolognese pasta and duck ragout pasta. Both were delicious, the bolognese is probably one of the best bolognese I have had! We also had a side of steamed green vegetables which were nicely seasoned and fresh. I would love to return

The food. All the seafoods, both salmon and oyster are very fresh and delicious. As you can tell from the photos, they are beautiful and perfect for pictures.<br/><br/>The service. All of the staff are friendly. They rearranged the seats for my friends and me, and patiently introduced different wines to let us decide.<br/><br/>Btw, I like the rainbow colour napkin clothes. The ocean view outside is just too good to be missed.

Very impressed with this cafe<br/><br/>Loved the pancakes, very crispy and very tasty with the blueberries and maple syrup. Also loved the eggs benny and balmoral breakfast<br/><br/>The coffee is excellent and service is extremely friendly<br/><br/>

When I was planning my wedding there was a clear order to things. Food was prime, I wasn’t really too  fussed about the rest of it. Hubby being there to was probably important in an esoteric sense. Oh and close friends and family too of course. I lub you guys. Just don’t get in the way of the food please.

Such a nice restaurant located by the water. Enjoyed dining here on my birthday even though there a slight miscommunication. <br/><br/>We chose the 3 course menu $110 each which started off with a complimentary fish croquette. Really subtle taste with a nice crunchy exterior. <br/><br/>1) seared scallops and slow cooked pork cheek. The scallops dish was very light. Tasted nice but wanted more. Definitely recommend the pork cheek. Great portion and very flavourful. <br/><br/>2) pan fried barramundi and roast beef tenderloin. <br/>My fish was so flaky and juicy. Great skin on top, wonderful combination. The beef was so good! <br/><br/>3) raspberry and fromage Blanc gateau and dark chocolate mousse. <br/>I preferred the mousse but it was quite rice. Didn't overly enjoy the raspberry dessert. Something about the combination of tastes just didn't sit right with my palette. <br/><br/>The slight miscommunication was that they wrote "happy birthday" not only on my dessert plate, but also on the lady, sitting next to me, her plate but hers had my name on it. It's not a big thing to me but as my partner put effort in trying to organise something special for me he was a little disappointed in that. <br/><br/>A few brief words to one of the waiters?/ Head of section?, an apology was given and a Bather's beach bag was gifted. It was a small mistake and it's understandable as they were so busy that Friday night. Really commend that particular worker's professionalism. Compared to all the staff that served us that night, he was definitely the best. <br/><br/>Definitely recommend this restaurant for a special evening.

Wonderful atmosphere and view. The food is light and fresh. I really need to back again soon. I think the last time I went was for my 21st - 7 years ago!!!!

Beautiful location and menu selection, staff were friendly but the service could use some improvement. Waiters were a little sloppy, forgetting drink orders, one dessert was forgotten and not on top of refilling water glasses.
HurryDaFoodup
This place has a magnificent view of balmoral beach. The tables are well placed to enjoy the view and the service on the Wednesday that we went was quick and easy. We ordered the Bolognese pasta and the eggplant pizza. Both were very good but still over priced for such simple dishes that don't cost a lot to prepare. A great place to go for a special treat!😊
Jessica
Fantastic location! So divine to dine with a view like this place has. Food was spot on! So happy to see a vegetarian menu too. The waiters were very attentive but not over bearing & the atmosphere was relaxed. A very enjoyable experience. Totally recommend this restaurant.

Very memorable degustation, tried 7 course degustation, every dish was delicious definitely was very filling. Waiter was very nice, we went at night so couldnt see the beautiful beach view. Would love to come back when new menu is up and defintely in the day

Been a couple of times and consistently high quality creations. Three courses was too much but lovely deserts, thus skipped the entrees. Good choice for both menu and drinks. Love to come back more often!

The Bathers Pavilion occupies a prized position overlooking Balmoral Beach - a beautiful spot for a meal. There is a popular cafe in the building and then the more expensive a la carte restaurant, where we had the good fortune to be dining.<br/>Between two adults and two kids we had 10 dishes, and with the exception of a child’s fish and chips which fell into the ‘nothing special’ category, everyone of them was exceptionally presented and cooked. The last time I had a similar quality meal was at the Dorchester’s a la carte grill in London - but this was better, lighter and more playful.<br/>It began with an amuse-bouche shot of fennell and cinnamon soup - creamy and delicately flavoured - and a basket of caraway seed bread and some plain or salted butter.<br/>We each ordered from the three-course set-price menu, good value at $95, and probably saving about $15 a head on the overall cost of adding up individual dishes. <br/>Our entrees consisted of a dozen freshly shucked oysters with mignonette vinaigrette, seared scallops with pancetta and pickled apple smoked yoghurt & chorizo oil and Kurobuta pork belly with pickled pine mushroom, braised lettuce, hazelnut crumbs and pork skin.<br/>The oysters were as fresh as you can get and presented simply with nothing too fancy to obscure their taste. The scallops were an attractive dish, but a lot of restaurants seem to be following the same rule with this dish these days and so it had a familiar look to it - perfectly cooked. <br/>The pork, from the Japanese strain of Black Berkshire and generally regarded as the best on the market, was light and full of flavour, neither overly fatty nor devoid of juice. The airy puff of crackling sat on top like a Chinese prawn cracker, bearing little resemblance to crackling or rind, and all the artery hardening we associate with it. Best though was the accompanying savoury bed of mushrooms, lettuce and nuts - delectable and a real winner of a dish.<br/>For the mains we ordered the poached blue eye trevalla with crab consommé, new potato confit, wilted kale and herb emulsion, the ora king salmon with confit celeriac and Avruga caviar, yuzu orange sauce and salmon crackling and duck breast with smoked pear puree, glazed Australian wild fig, turnips and walnuts.<br/>These were all beautifully presented. Our waiter served the trevalla and then poured a small jug of consommé over the fillet. Soft and falling apart it was given a little piquancy by the dobs of herb emulsion.<br/>The salmon, again wonderful to look at, was perfectly cooked - the flesh soft and flaky, the skin crisp. The Avruga, a herring derived caviar substitute, was arranged on the dish like blackberries and sat amidst cubes of celeriac and globs of herb emulsion. The smear of yuzu sauce, with its tart, grapefruit like notes was a good accompaniment.<br/>Perhaps the most satisfying of the mains was the duck - so tender and wonderfully combined with nuts and fruit puree - a real standout.<br/>Throughout this we weren’t over-indulging on the alcohol front, so only had a glass of wine each - both from the Margaret River - at around $15-$20 a glass (whole bottles are roughly twice the price of a glass).<br/>If we thought the appetisers and the mains were spectacular the desserts took it up another level again.<br/>Of these the raspberry meringue with strawberry, lychee sorbet, Prosecco jelly, lime and olive oil curd was simply a work of art. Stunningly presented the delicate meringue casing gave way to an orb of delicious sorbet. A real ‘wow’ of a dessert.<br/>The dark chocolate mousse with hazelnut cremeux, sesame praline and dark chocolate sauce was the height of sophistication with richly satisfying ingredients and hints of gold.<br/>Lastly my mandarin mousse with Valrhona Dulcey blond chocolate, turmeric and lemon sauce with orange sorbet came out looking like some delicate Japanese flower arrangement or a Joan Miro painting. Again, so wonderful to look at and a beautifully conceived dish.<br/>In addition to all this the staff were extremely relaxed and helpful and the atmosphere was refreshingly casual for such quality dining.<br/>All up I couldn’t fault the Bathers, an impressive meal worth every cent and a great place to treat someone to a genuinely classy meal.

Food was AMAZING. The service was bad to the point of being bizarre/ perplexing, which impacted the overall experience and gave me the shi+s - not what I was after. Our booking for 1pm 3 course meal for 6 took over 2.5hr to serve. I couldn't get through a single glass of sparkling water without it being filled with still water by 3 different staff, that last one didn't even bring a refill, only a new empty glass...? They served dishes then retracted them and served them to the next table. When they got our meals correct they offered them to the wrong people. I think there are systems for waiting tables that other restaurants apply...?On the positive, the wait staff were very nice and as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. The view was great. Did I mention the food was AMAZING :)

Food was fabulous, pity the service didn't match. We enjoyed a table d'hôte menu for 11 pax, right way to go to keep the choices simple and the service time, uncomplicated. Food beautifully presented and wonderful. To see truth in flavour and texture, exceptional. Pity the staff couldn't come up with a system to know who ordered what- most restaurants can manage this. Also seemed to have about 5 different staff fluffying around each one approaching te table slightly hesitatingly, not sure what was to be done
The Happiest Time Of Day
It was a beautiful day and great view from the seats. I ordered chicken steak and it was delicious but nothing special. Staff was friendly but I think they should get more staff to take care of customers more nicely. Anyway I liked the place.

One of the most amazing views in Sydney. Bathers is an institution. Boasting a fantastic wine list, you won't be struggling to choose a great drop. <br/>The beef was one of the best cuts I have had ever!!

Not much comes close to the experience of dining at Bathers. The food is delicious and consistently interesting. The service is a delight. It has probably gotten a little more relaxed over the years, but I think that's in the context of the general Sydney dining experience.<br/><br/>Of course the view out over the beach is unparalleled .. Worth the substantial entry price in my opinion. Should be on the list of everyone's must dine experiences.

Such a disappointment on a number of levels <br/><br/>Personally I like pate, but can't stomach it when it's very pink which is the current fashion. So when I saw pate on the menu I was pleased and apprehensive. The duty suit explained it was a deconstructed pate, but it wasn't pink. Well guess what? It was pink and I didn't touch it. What was more surprising is that none of the staff enquired why I didn't eat it. And of course it wasn't deducted from the bill. I didn't want to embarrass my overseas guests by complaining about it. <br/><br/>When all four of our wine glasses were empty I had to wave my napkin to attract attention and have them refilled. Yes, I know, I'm a vulgar Australian! Hey, this isn't the local bistro and these people charge serious money. <br/><br/>In fact the service was lacking once the restaurant filled up. Fortunately we arrived earlier than our booking time of 7pm. Judge for yourself, when you pay $630 for 4 people is that adequate service?<br/>Bathers has to be one of those places you take overseas visitors to; but beware they don't deliver. Next time I will go to Ormeggio at the Spit, and I'm about to write a review on that because they are good.

Balmoral Bathers Pavilion is a restaurant for people that have eaten well in lots of places. This restaurant is near the cutting edge with interesting combinations in its dishes and daring ideas. Owned and operated by well-known chef Serge Dansereau, Balmoral Bather’s Pavilion offers creative food with a culinary precision not seen in many other Sydney restaurants.

Amazing view of the water and beautiful inside the restaurant. Food was beautiful but portions were tiny. After 3 courses, I was still hungry. When you're paying $100 for 3 courses, you'd at least like to be satisfied after eating. Very overpriced wine also, starting @ $22 for a 150ml glass! Nice experience in terms of setting, view etc but wouldn't come back.

Honestly I was a little disappointed. Went and had the 8 course degustation with matching wines. Was off to a good start however I think the kingfish dish had way too much fennel in it, the oyster was fine, wasn't a fan of the purple carrot, the duck was very well cooked. However they had a really great corn soup with tapioca purse which was nice and crunchy and gave it depth, the dessert was pretty refreshing and the wine pairings 6/8 times was good. The ambiance was great with a really romantic decor and is great for anniversary type things, the plating was georgious with a little theatrics (they poured the soup at the table), only downside is that the cafe and restaurant are somewhat joined so the noise from the cafe came into the restaurant. All in all, it was okay.
Karen
Amazing location! Food was decent, not spectacular, but decent. Service was average, but who minds waiting if you are looking across the bay? I would leave the kids at home for this one and expect to pay a little more than normal.

Awesome view. Dining here makes me want to stay longer in a resto like this.. great food too and service is just fine.

I went to Bathers Pavilion for brunch with my sister and my 2 year old daughter today, for my birthday.<br/><br/>The location is definitely fantastic, with a great view. The food is ok but the service is pretty terrible. I had chosen the Bathers Pavilion for my birthday last year too and almost as soon as we sat down I remembered the poor service. While it is a nice place to spend a bit of time over a meal i don't like waiting a long time to order or a long time to receive my meal. We waited ages for coffees to be delivered then again for the food. When it arrived it was nice but not special. We only received one of two OJs we had ordered, we had to specifically ask for butter for some toast and we had to remind the waiter we had ordered a side spread.<br/><br/>They do cater for kids which was great though. They have wooden highchairs, the chef agreed to change the menu for my daughter and there is a specific small kids toilet.<br/><br/>Overall, our visit was ok but for the cost I don't think it is worth it. We won't be returning anytime soon.

Breakfast horror!. Food was cold when it just came out! Coffee came out after food. Got the feeling a lot was pre-cooked. The potato rosti weren't cooked fresh. It was so disappointing. Had to send eggs back twice. The overall experience was a nightmare. $110 for 4 ( 2 being kids). With so many places to go in Sydney, please don't do this to yourself. Never again!
Brunch On Joy
With sparkling beachfront views, stylish beach interior theme, a casual family friendly setting and a menu that is uniquely sophisticated - Bathers is a must for any bruncher or Sydney tourist. The view of the beach from a window seat The menu changes regularly and quite often than not I am torn between dishes. The eggs benedict made an appearance this time but I opted for the  hot smoked salmon  ($24). I never know what to expect when ordering off the menu and without fail I was impressed.  The presentation was picture perfect (see my unedited photo) and the flavours and textures worked so well. It was a "constructed" dish with no sides and the surprise element of roe that popped in my mouth added that wow factor. I ordered my usual skim cap ($3.70) to start and a cranberry juice cocktail ($7) to wash it all down. I was able to try out my old brunch benchmark -  eggs benedict ($21.50). Balmoral’s beauty has attracted thousands of bathers since the early 1920s when the beach was served by a now retired tramline. Where once bathers arrived armed with picnics today many visit looking forwards to lunch at one of Balmoral’s beachside cafes. The cafe I’m covering here is no ordinary cafe. It’s part of the chef’s hatted Bathers’ Pavilion – a Sydney dining institution that celebrates its 15th birthday in 2014. Serge Dansereau, the Head Chef, owns both halves of the Bathers’. He’s one of Australia’s top chefs with over five cookbooks under his belt. The setting is so spectacular it can distract you from the food – sit alongside the sand with harbour views that stretch to the ocean and watch the Manly ferry on route from Circular Quay. On one side the fine dining restaurant menu emphasises fresh produce grown by small producers. It’s priced as you’d expect for an established chef’s hatted restaurant by the water. Put it on your special occasion dining bucket list. On the other

For dessert its the chocolate fondant cake with salted caramel ice-cream. The soft floury external texture of the cake is pierced to reveal the gooey inner chocolate fondant which is thick and rich and just flows out of its case like oil gushing from a well. The texture sensation in ones mouth of the doughy crummy cake pieces and smooth velvety rich cocoa flavoured fondant sauce is the most amazing experience one could have. Then the sweetness overload and warmth of the fondant sauce is mixed with the freezing chilll and the ever so slight saline hints of the salted caramel ice-cream. The caramel is a smoky burnt sweet flavour to it, which I couldn’t adequately describe. I am speechless! I then decide to wrap lunch, but take moment to admire the view as I head off for the rest of the day. It was such a wonderful experience. The service, the food and the wine was beautiful and the scene… well I don’t think there’s anything quite like it. Share this: Twitter Facebook Google Pinterest Ema

The Bathers’ Pavilion Cafe is my favourite cafe at Balmoral, especially for an early breakfast while the beach is still relatively quiet. The cafe has a stunning view over Middle Harbour which can’t be missed from most tables but I still like to get there early to ensure a prime view from a front row table. The cafe has a big breakfast menu that caters for a range of healthy, sweet and savoury tastes. Lighter options include quince and figs with sheep milk yoghurt ($17); sweet lovers (me) can try the blueberry pancakes with Canadian maple syrup ($21.50) and there’s plenty of choice for a more substantial breakfast including fried eggs and Bathers’ blood sausage with roast pear and apple, with herb butter and sourdough toast ($24). My love of papaya and coconut was well satisfied with a glass full of creamy c

Sit and watch the ferries go by or the waves lapping on beautiful Balmoral beach. Bathers’ Pavilion Cafe is great for little ones with the beach offering the perfect playground and adults will enjoy the ambience and food. It is great for a special family meal.

The meatier dishes on the degustation menu were a silky, tender squab (I did not know that a squab was a young, domestic pigeon!), and a sweet, moist grilled lamb loin with baby fennel and pencil leek and sweetbreads. The WR commented that the crispy lumps of sweetbreads were like eating fried balls of fat, which was not a bad description of these creamy balls of deliciousness.<br/>
Confessions Of A Glutton
Our dishes arrived at the same time after we were about halfway through our mocktails. Fashion Obsessed Girl’s Pan-fried Garfish Fillets with Courgettes, Fennel, Mint & Labne Yoghurt ($25) had slightly smaller fillets of fish than we were expecting, but do keep in mind that it was listed under the “small meals” menu.

Remember Rotureau? Here is his domain, and boy has he done some great things with his sweet-tooth creativity. The mascarpone ingot is dad’s dessert. It looks amazing, doesn’t it? The sheen of the blood orange brulee, crunch of the hazelnut nibbles, the high-roller gold leaf presentation, it’s all there.

The Bathers’ Pavilion Café is situated inside the historic bathers’ pavilion building on Balmoral Beach. The café sits on one side of the building, while the one hatted Bathers’ Pavilion restaurant sits on the other. Unlike the café, the restaurant was almost empty. The food at Bather’s is modern without distracting modernist flourishes, but also solidly grounded in French classical technique, which you would expect from Quebecois chef-owner Serge Dansereau. Likewise the wine list, which is pretty extensive, but to eliminate confusion they should just keep bottles of the Ruinart Blanc des Blancs coming.

Tip: Don't make my mistake and park on the more expensive side of the street if you're driving here. The side of the street which is closer to the beach is paid parking and very expensive. Apparently (so I was told by my Northsider friends who I met up with for breakfast) the side of the street further from the beach is free parking. <br/><br/>

If you're a fan of spaghetti vongole then the bucatini pasta with sea urchin, venus clams, tomato, garlic and parsley ($34) is the one for you. I'd liken it to a spaghetti vongole on steroids

Set within the very exclusive suburb of Mosman, the restaurant and cafe at The Bathers’ Pavilion is owned and operated by Sydney celebrity chef Serge Dansereau.<br/><br/>The breathtaking views toward North Head and beyond set the tone for some of the most expensive real estate around Sydney harbour.

Did someone say a 7 course dessert degustation? I'm in! This was a one night event held during the Crave Sydney International Food Festival. $85 is a price I was willing to pay for this experience. I'd also said I wanted to try a dessert degustation, so when my friend expressed interest in it, I was more than happy to give her that little nudge :) All the tables had to start at the same time, much to my dismay. We had gotten there on time, if not slightly early.. but we were left waiting for about 30 - 40 minutes while the other guests arrived… and darnit, I was HUNGRY! Strawberry and lychee consomme, Champagne savarin, white balsamic powder All four of us at my table started eating this as soon as it came out. After about 1 or 2 bites, the waiter came around to pour the consomme onto our dessert.. I have to say though, it was tastier before it got drenched, and the rest of us agreed ): Peach and yoghurt parfait, almond nougatine, apricot creme Caramelised white chocolate, apple tart

The best thing about a restaurant no-bookings policy is that impromptu plans can be easily made, even though it's late on a Friday afternoon. The Bathers' Pavilion Cafe is the casual but more budget-friendly side to Bathers' Pavilion. Patrons enter the sa

Price doesn't mean perfection. Bathers' Pavilion restaurant has a great location and good service, but falls short in significant ways.<br/><br/>While most of the food is very good, some dishes are just "different" for the sake of it and are not enjoyable - the swordfish entree for example is mediocre.<br/><br/>And the wine markup seems quite excessive, even by reference to the price levels at other top restaurants.<br/><br/>Perhaps their cafe section might represent more acceptable value.

Very Poor. We decided to eat there from our good experience some years ago. It was New Years day and we took some our guests, 5 adults and a child. Firstly the wait staff are only reasonable taking a long time to bring water to the table and only after we had toasked. Their knowledge of the wine and food menu was limited to say the least. The bread di not turn up until entrée was about served.<br/>The wine is vastly overpriced, A wine we drink at home cost $10 in the shop and $78 at the restaurant, a little to much gouging!<br/>The food was only fair, my steak was not cooked the way I requested, medium - medium rare and I received medium to welll done and was a very small portion even for a trendy restaurant.<br/>The wine never kept up with our drinking and we constantly had to ask for a top ups. The wine was not kept at the table.<br/>The overall opinion of all the adults was this restaurant is not value for money.

When we walked in it was almost empty, but it slowly filled up. Why we had to wait over an hour for starters and then another hour for mains puzzled me. It was just ridiculous, especially with the outrageous prices you pay for a meal here. Also we had to keep waving staff over to order more drinks. A lot of people (often with hungry kids) around us were waiting a long time too, getting more and more hungry and grumpy. Despite the great views I will not recommend or come back.

Terrible wait staff with a great view. Our experience started off with the grumpy bald European waiter offering a table to a couple behind us in line. My partner and I then ordered one regular soy flat white and a large soy cap. <br/><br/>We received a small cap and a large flat white which both had cows milk; we then tried to get the wait staff's attention to correct the error but they were impossible to flag so we just got up and left. <br/><br/>The grumpy bald European waiter hunted us down in our new restaurant and presented us the bill for the two coffees ($10.50 !) that we couldn't consume and made sure to embarrass my partner and I in front off all the other diners by explaining how we couldn't just walk off and and not pay. I considered explaining that we tried to rectify the situation but knew that I would probably lose my temper and ruin a gorgeous day <br/><br/>Funny how the bald grumpy waiter is capable of crossing the street to give us our bill for the coffees we couldn't drink yet found it quite difficult to serve us in his own restaurant. <br/><br/>The staff at this establishment are horrendous.

Mediocre food with good view. Had fish of the day - salmon - and a small piece arrived on large white plate with a slice of lemon. I ordered the "green leaf salad" to go with it and got a small overstuffed bowl with lettuce. Not one other ingredient even a radish. If there was an oil dressing it was impossible to tell it was tasteless. For $30 I felt they could do better than that and asked the waitress if I could have the risotto instead as the "salad" was bland. I eventually got the risotto but that turned out to be inedible as well because the chef dumped a lot of salt in it. My husband actually mentioned it first because he could tell it wasn't as good as our 2 companions when he tried it. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to make an issue of it but will never eat there again. But even if it the chef wasn't an a-hole and felt the need to make a point instead of making sure his customer had the best meal possible,l I would not feel it was good value. You pay for the view, not the food.

Great. I love the Bathers. The service is amazing, location is beautiful. The menu however, trumps both! I love the bent towards seafood. I walked away from the Bathers reflecting on the attention to detail - the vegetables and mashed potato were the best I have had. I recommend the Bathers and I go there for special occasions (or any decent excuse in between).

Beautiful!!! Went here with my family we all had the Degustation menu! Everything was amazing! The wines suggested were very nice and the food was just perfect! My highlights were the cured salmon, rump lamb, dick, and beef cheeks! Ohh and the kingfish! Brilliant! Perfect atmosphere and great service!

Breakfast tradition. Whenever my grandson or other family and friends arrive in town breakfast has to be at the Bathers Pavilion at least once ... The view is exceptional, the service professional yet friendly, the food really good too. This space is my Sydney Breakfast place for special occasions and also non events. Love going there and will be back.

It is all about the location for The Bathers Pavilion. Set on the sandline in a curve of Hunters Bay, the venue is graced with phenomenal vistas of crystal clear water lapping against pale yellow sand. The building itself is stunning, with intricate adornments including the beautiful fretwork windows.

Fine dining at its best. It's been a few years since we've been there, but service & food still great. Amazing dessert.

Dinner not good value. Pretentious food, pretentious service, expensive wine list and tiny, tiny servings! Don't bother....get some fish and chips and enjoy the view from the park!

Avoid if Vegetarian. I have been here before and it was ok (not worth the money- but ok) – however the vegetarian options were not actually vegetarian as they contained gelatine and rennet – I also could not eat the cheesecake etc (gelatine - lazy way to make cheesecake). Anyway I am looking at organising a dinner for 30 people (which we are looking at doing every 3 months) we have a couple of vegetarians in the group so I called to see if the vegetarian menu was vegetarian (as it was not last time). I spoke to an American lady called Jess/Jessie. It seems that yet again they could not say if the cheese in the vegetarian dishes was or was not vegetarian (rennet comes from a dead cow – you can get plant based rennet - 85% of cheese in England is vegetarian for example but not in Australia). <br/>She said I could modify the dish but that defeats the object in my book - if it is stated as vegetarian, on what they like to think is a premier restaurant, the chef should know what he is doing. It is false advertising if their vegetarian dishes are NOT vegetarian. <br/><br/>Anyway Jess/Jessie told me that if I wanted to check if the cheese was vegetarian then I could call the supplier! Why would I need to go to all that effort? They are the ones taking my money – they should do the work. I told her that I was very disappointed that a restaurant of that ilk did not know if their vegetarian menu was vegetarian. Jess/Jessie’s rude response to me was, ‘You can go elsewhere’. I told her that with her attitude I certainly will! <br/><br/>This chef has a large gap in his knowledge and skill if he cannot create a vegetarian menu.<br/><br/>I figure her aggressive attitude just lost them at least $15,000 a year from just one phone call, and yes indeed I will go elsewhere! <br/><br/>AVOID if you are a vegetarian or have any food allergies – they obviously do not know what is in the food – but hey – you can phone the suppliers! <br/><br/>I put this review on Trip Advisor in March 2013 and it is no longer on there – so I do not trust that website anymore to show an accurate picture.

Tourist trap. Bathers has an overrated reputation. We eat a lot of places... <br/>We spend a lot of money. (eg. 4 times to Tetsuya's). But this was just not value for money. $90 for 2 courses makes it roughly a $60 main and a $30 entree for a lunch visit! Not justified! I think that it must be the tourist trade putting the price way out of sensible league.
Mark Hewlett
Over priced, poor quality food and pretentious service. Not worth visiting even for the view.

Would never return. As a foodie who often indulges in fine dining, this was beyond disappointing. I don't mind paying the money, but the portions were appallingly small and none of our dishes were particularly great. Shame because the cafe side is great along with the view. Overall the food is pretentious and a complete waste of money.

Great food and beautiful location, terrible service. Having dined at Bathers for breakfast and dinner on multiple occasions the service is getting worse every time I go back. Fortunately for Bathers the food is always great and the views are to die for. It's a real shame that they can't sort out the service. Crazy!

Good food and ambiance... We liked this place overall...

Massively Overpriced!. I went here with a group of friends for lunch. I knew going into the lunch that it was going to be quite expensive at $110 per head. The $110 did not include drinks and was for a 3-course meal only. For that price, I was expecting some big servings and delicious flavours. How wrong was I....<br/><br/>The entree came out and I was honestly shocked at the size. This shock continued through to the main and dessert as small plate after small plate arrived at our table. The chef seems to think that "foam" is the new trend, and almost everybody's dish had foam of some sort on it. I considered this a waste of space on the plate and for the price, I want real food - not foam.<br/><br/>To top off my dining experience, my lamb (the main) was overcooked - I asked for medium and received well-done. Maybe the chef should concentrate on the basics first rather than worry about putting foam on every dish??<br/><br/>Needless to say, I was disappointed with me lunch and I would not recommend going here for a fine dining experience.

Totally stunning. We had the degustation menu which they happily modified for one of us who doesn't eat meat. Each and every course was divine and the view and ambiance wonderful. Can not wait to go back

Terrible Kids Meal. 3 x kids fish chips last night - the worst and most expensive kids meal ever. So much so, my kids all had belly aches last night. Waste of $54 , better off going to McDonald's.

Disappointing. Service TERRIBLE, Food Acceptable. The only thing saving this restaurant is the view.My suggestion get takeaway, sit on the beach, and save yourself the hassle from dealing with these gits. I live in the area but will not be going back anytime soon.

I had lunch here with my partner and it was very enjoyable. For a 'cafe' it is expensive but it has a restaurant quality setting, service and food not to mention the view. We were here on a beautiful sunny day so the view was amazing. I would come here again!
RonL
Disappointing. Taking some overseas visitors out for a nice lunch with a view turned out a disappointment, yes the view was great but at $100.00 per head for 2 courses without wine one would expect more than 2 mouthfuls from main courses. The meat dishes were an embarrassment. The beef was tender but was no bigger than 2 postage stamps cubed and the lamb was even smaller being no bigger than 2 small fingers. Thank goodness for the generous serving of bread which filled the hole. For the price and portion size one would expect the equivalent of silver service but no even that was mediocre to say the least. Definitely not worth a return or recommendation.

Whenever I come home during Uni holidays my dad and I always come here to catch up over good cocktails and great food. I have lots of fond memories at the Bathers' Pavilion, the foodiest one being the magnificent seafood risotto that I believe is no longer on the menu (but in one of the cookbooks!).

Good without being great. Had lunch in the restaurant on a Sunday. Views are magnificent but the service is lacking just a little for what I would expect of a chef hatted restaurant.

Basically the best breakfast ever. Food, location and everything is is perfect.

BIrthday Surprise. Boarding a plane early on sunday I had no idea what destination awaited me. <br/><br/>As soon as the cab snaked it's way down towards Balmoral the secret was out.<br/><br/>Greeted by smart looking staff in crisp sky blue shirts we sat and ordered opening drinks including a delicious chambord champagne cocktail, along with a crisp G & T... perfect.<br/><br/>I can highly recommend the degustation here with the freshest seafood I've had for ages and creative dishes that entice the senses.<br/>Kingfish, prawns, blue eye everything was amazing.<br/><br/>Watched a late afternoon storm roll in while the raspberry dessert arrived and we decided to indulge in more pinot noir. <br/><br/>Many places you pay purely for the view but here it was the perfect balance of both. Have told so many people about this amazing experience and will most definitely be back.<br/><br/>Thanks to Bather's crew, simply stunning.
