Review The View - Mosman

Michael McRoberts
Ok so there are some conflicting reviews so I thought I would make my reviewer detailed. The view is lovely but you will need to be close to the windows to get best effect. Our fish and chips ($26) were lovely, fresh and hot. Our children had fries which the chef tailored to make them smaller cut for them. All up including food for four (two children) and five glasses of wine was $106. Quite a reasonable experience. The staff were all helpful and attentive and the service was very prompt. There is a cheap fish and chip cafe next door for those who want something cheaper but this is not excessive!

After watching the animals get fed, we decided to get a bite from The View, sitting in the self-service outdoor area. What drew my attention here was the huge line which means the food would be fresh from the high turnover rate. We ordered one fish and chips and one seafood basket. While the food is not outstanding, the fish was well cooked and the chips were crunchy so it was a rock solid performance. This has definitely exceeded my expectations of food at the zoo. There is also the option to sit inside and get table service but the price is double of what you pay outside which would be quite expensive for you are getting.

Simply put, in general dining experience it is average at most, but definitely MILES better than any of the other zoo eating options. Go here for the table service and a nice view if you are sitting outside. Staff were friendly, but menu options somewhat limited. We had the steak sandwich and some wine and it was perfectly fine way to keep us fuelled up for the beasts.

DJ'd here last week at The View for a lovely wedding reception. Staff were friendly & helpful. Food was amazing. There is an amazing view of the harbour. Couple had their ceremony close-by at Bird Amphitheatre.

The food was good, but a bit pricey. I guess you need to pay for a nice 'view'

Service was clumsy. Booked a table at 1 and was seated at 1:20 because they kept seating all walk-ins (not understanding why I had to book then..) Drinks arrived late and randomly during the experience. A beer was left forgotten and when paying, was being charged twice for it.. Ordered the Tortellini and it arrived with flies in the sauce... waiter was saying I probably left my meal unattended, but once you find more than 5... itā€™s not a coincidence. Overall, itā€™s overpriced and not clean at all. Do not recommend it. Horrible.

Fish and chips $14.5, the portion is not small, can be shared by 2 pole if you just want to have some snack.

Ordered:
1. Salmon - average to good for the salmon and poor for the asparagus as it was soggy and too soft
2. Chocolate dessert - way too sweet and I couldnā€™t even finish half of it
3. Cappuccino - great coffee, smooth and not bitter

Will I go back: yes if I visit Taronga zoo again otherwise no. Gave this place 3/5 instead of 2/5 because it was the only restaurant that I can eat at the zoo and I really appreciate it, the other places like the food court was like a war zone. However, I canā€™t believe this restaurant only has one toilet cubical and people who donā€™t dine at the restaurant can have access to it as well. The view is good but not amazingly great.

I booked the restaurant as I had a feeling it would be busy on Good Friday and luckily I did! My request for a table with a view was also met as we got a nice shaded table on the corner of the balcony.

Service was friendly but sitting outside met it was hard to get someoneā€™s attention. The menu is limited and definitely overpriced. I tried their ploughman sandwich which was tasteless and just bread for $19. My husbands beer battered fish and chips was probably the best out of the order but again not worth the price. My MIL tried their special John Dory and my son had cheeseburger but the meat was tough and he couldnā€™t even chew it.

Positive was that we can relax and enjoy the view without the noise of the food court area of the zoo but you do pay for it!

Nice elevated view of harbour and bridge, good dish selection with affordable price. Perfect lunch destination within the zoo. Would recommend.

It's unfortunate that the food and service weren't great. Admittedly there were a large group of us. But the vegetarian options were terrible. Bland and cold. Dessert was quite average.
