The best cafe in Mt Barker. Not the best in the Hills, or Adelaide. I’ve only had brekky and morning tea catch ups here so I can’t speak to their Mexican food. The breakfasts are generous in size, nothing too adventurous but at least a little bit more interesting than standard bacon and eggs. I personally don’t like cheese in my omelette but I think they are catering to the people who think bacon and egg burgers, with tomato sauce, are delicious.
It’s always crowded here, clearly everyone agrees this is the best coffee in the village. I’ve never had a bad coffee here, always good. Staff are friendly and despite the crowds food is delivered promptly.
Coffee and food is perfect here! Always smooth coffee never bitter and the Sazon rounds will blow your mind 😍 The carrot cake is also delicious super moist and leaves you wanting more!
Best coffee in South Australia! This place is a unique Mexican Australian restaurant, with fantastic service and warming people. Ask for Cristian, award winning barista, who can prepare a fantastic coffee. Also, Nathaniel a local Mt Barker staff member can serve you in English or Spanish and give you good food recommendations.

Called in here mid-morning, just before an all day drive. I would have ordered their huevos rancheros, it sounded divine but the cafe was really buzzing and we didn't have the time to wait. I ended up choosing the chocolate fondant cake from the cabinet and a latte, both came promptly to the table. The cake had been heated slightly and was lovely and gooey inside, really perfect. This is a popular cafe and can get crowded.
Loads to like about this place. Interesting take on Mexican food which is delicious, good coffee, great decor and friendly staff. If your on your way to anywhere and passing through its worth the stop. If your a local, good luck to you to have Sazon as a choice.
Ventured out of the city scape today to try Sazon, on a beautiful tree-lined street of Mt. barker. I must confess i didn't realise such a quaint area existed in the Mount! Great service, good prices and the foot!! Got the pecorino tomato salsa 'round' and the bread was incredible and piled with loads of fresh tomato!! Will return! Yum yum yummmmmm

A very enjoyable experience.
This place cops a bit of stick in the review-a-sphere, but we only saw this once we had finished our meals. Based on our experience, the criticism seems misplaced. However, we will certainly be returning to test if they can replicate their good work (probably for dinner).
We turned up on a whim, not knowing where we might be able to share a light meal and get a good coffee in Mt Barker. The place was very busy.
The staff were warm, welcoming, and even though they were clearly under the pump, attentive. The staff member we spoke to found us a nice seat, and worked out (spookily without us really having to say anything) that we wanted to share a breakfast.
We ordered (they were efficient and polite) and we didn’t have to wait long for the food. The poached eggs were perfect and delivered with a smile and a sharing plate. The coffee was very good too. I asked for a double shot and received it (rather than the over-extracted single shot that too many places pass off for a double).
We watched the staff buzz around, politely and efficiently handling a large crowd. It was a pleasure to watch.
In short, nice atmosphere, very good coffee, great food and excellent staff.

Sazón Espresso - there are currently two stores in Adelaide, one in the CBD and one in Mt Barker up in the Adelaide Hills. We made a visit to the one in Mt Barker on the weekend. Even on an early Sunday morning, the cafe was packed to the max. If you don't want to avoid any disappointments then I suggest making a reservation.
When I'm back in the Adelaide Hills you'll find me at Sazons at least once every visit. It's a great little cafe to meet with friends and family, especially now they have the new seating outside. By far the best coffee in Mt Barker too. They have a great Mexican inspired menu for both breakfast and lunch. Highly recommend!
We have been here twice now for breakfast, and each time, we were amazed by their food and coffee, good service as well. We will definitely come back every now and again on the weekend for a nice breakfast or lunch!
Staff are always welcoming and happy. Always greet us on the way in and out. Can't beat the coffee from here. Best coffee in town and delicious desserts to go with.
Good coffee, great food. The Hispanic/Mexican influences are a welcome change from the usual coffeehouse atmosphere. Heartily recommended for a tasty lunch.
Awesome coffee, but it took an awful long time for take-always and my order of a soy flat-white had to be made three times because they kept making the wrong coffee. Would still go back - it was a busy time of day.

Lovely lunches. We went there two weeks ago on the weekend. Ordered Sazon Rounds (Freshly baked round house-made bread served hot out of the oven with roasted pumpkin, capsicum and feta cheese). It's delicious. The chicken Sazon square was very nice too. Love the decor. What a gem in Mt Baker!

Breakfast heaven. Seriously good poached eggs with hollandaise and an obscene amount of bacon on the side. Eggs just needed another 30 seconds to completely cook the white. 9.5/10

Great coffee, interesting menu. We've really enjoyed Sazon for coffee and cake or coffee and lunch (great coffee!) The menu is very interesting, the serves decent and the prices good. Can't really ask for much more than that other than slightly more room around the tables (but that's nit-picking). Looking forward to trying it for dinner soon! 8/10
Best coffee in the Adelaide Hills. The street food nights are awesome, real authentic Mexican , the Chorizo Taco is the bomb. Staff are great, Jose, Os and Cristian have a great set up here, a must when up here!!
I'm from Perth, passing through. Used U'spoon to find the best cafe and this doesn't disappoint. Both the Macchiato and Flat white were spot on. Huevos Racheros was a little plain, but having been to Mex, actually spot on. Rare in this tex mex world. When in Barker, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Best coffee in Mt Barker. Sazons easily has the best coffee in Mt Barker and is definitely in the top 10 for the Hills in general. Only downside is the wait, they are very busy from open to close so allow for a wait, whether you are picking up a takeaway or drinking in. We have also had dinner here for the Friday night sessions and the most recent Saturday night session several times and it would be my favourite place to go in the Hills on a Friday night. The energy of staff and diners is high, the food is fresh and authentic and not overly priced and the Sangria is second to none. As with a lot of busy places there are a few issues most times we eat there, items forgotten, drinks having to be chased up a few times but the staff's charming attitude makes up for any shortcomings. Cant recommend highly enough.

I find it hard to stay away longer than a day because its such a lovely cafe! the brownies are yummy but i wish they had even more cakes. why? because i love cake.always busy for a reason!
My favorite cafe in Mt Barker, at the moment. Good honest food. Love the house made pesto! The best hot chocolate I have ever had. The standard of service and food is fantastic. This cafe is buzzing every lunch time. Can't wait to come back. Congratulations Team Sazon!
Wow this place has the best coffee ever. I just moved down here from QLD and I only ever drank coffee for a pick me up but I find myself going into this little coffee shop everyday
Absolutely fantastic!. Had dinner here on Friday night with my parents. 2nd time I've been there and the food was fantastic. It's not gluggy oily mexican food; it's lightweight, healthy, and super tasty! I love it. Make sure you try the green tea. I'm not a huge tea fan but this tea was super good!

Started with hot chocolates, Mexican style and chilli, and were blown away. Our food came out and it was equally as good. The Huevos Rancheros were really tasty.
Having only just moved to Mt Barker in January and being the foodie I am, I've set about to find a) unpretentious delicious coffee b) best poached eggs (believe me, it's not easy!) c) friendly service. Sazón meets 2 of these hands down. With its quaint cosy interior, deliberate patches of exposed brick, the Spanish inspired fare, I could see this was a Mecca for locals & visitors alike. The coffee is prepared with heart & soul by the snazzy gentleman Baristas, the waitresses are polite and friendly. Pick your times carefully as you can wait thru an entire meal for your coffee (as I did) but it was at peak morning time. My breakfast of poached eggs & bacon was scrumptious but took 20 mins to arrive. In all I will most definitely be returning to try more menu items, if only I can find a time when they're not busy! ;-)

This Mexican Cafe is Located midway on the sunny side of Gawler St, beside the Barker Hotel. It is set in a converted historic cottage, al fresco dining outside on the former verandah. The decor is an eclectic mix of old and new; exposed antique bricks on walls, marble bench tops, trendy metal stools, tables and chairs and also comfortable bench seating in rich burnt orange. Walls predominately white with a panel of colourful mexican tiles, and dark wooden floors setting it all off, very appealing and quite unique. From the breakfast menu, (which is available till 2.00pm weekends) I chose Huevos Rancheros, Mexican ranch style free-range eggs, with chorizo sausages, served with fresh tomato salsa on a flour tortilla, a very generous serve, extremely tasty, typically Mexican. My wife chose a light tasty lunch dish, a Quesadilla, chicken, pecorino cheese and avocado, The coffee was excellent, very well made, good crema with a lingering pleasant after taste. This could be accompanied by a delicious cake from their display cabinet. The service was very good, the popularity of this cafe is well deserved.
Spanish styled cafe, chilli chocolate and round or square open sandwiches. We had chicken, pesto and avocado and chorizo and salsa respectively which hit the spot and were great.
Best Coffee in the Hills!!. Been there about 18 months now, and this is easily the best place for a coffee in the Adelaide Hills. Serving Veneziano Coffee, the guys here care about what you drink, and ensure that you like it. There also do a breakfast/lunch menu and have gluten free sweet options as well. Check it out!

Delicious food and coffee and the best hot chocolate! Also breastfeeding friendly, had my baby with me in the corner while I enjoyed the dark hot chocolate. Excellent service, fast and welcoming.
We shared the burrito bowl as a brunch, the veges were so crisp and fresh and the beans perfectly seasoned and the pork well cooked and tender. Would highly recommend this dish... And when you want a good, strong coffee, this is the place to be👌

Stopped in for takeaway breakfast from the cabinet. The place was packed on a Sunday morning around 10am. Staff were extremely friendly despite being busy!
We ordered ham and cheese crossiants, chocolate crossiants, and a vegan oreo slice. We got the crossiants warmed up and though they were tasty, there was nothing special about them. The oreo slice was delicious! Highly recommend trying it and thanks to the staff member who suggested it. 👍
Delicious veggie gluten free brekky square and a mocha frappe. Great service and for gluten-free vegetarian - an excellent breakfast choice with clearly artisan gluten free bread - a rare treat for the gluten intolerant and allergic.
We were visiting Mt Barker for the Easter break and went to Saxon every morning for coffee/breakfast. The service was absolutely incredible and even though the staff were ran off their feet they were still so friendly, kind and calm. It’s so hard for find amazing service, great food and fab coffee! Mt Barker locals are lucky to have such a wonderful spot! Look forward to visiting again next year.
