Review Gawler Street Cafe - Mount Barker

Wow! This place is the jewel on the main street of Mt Barker. Really vibrant and lively. Amazingly friendly staff. Food was fabulous! I got to have Poutine, which was the first time I have seen it on a menu since visiting Canada! Our kids loved the food, freshly squeezed juices, milkshakes and great kids meals. The inside was cosy and fun, with an open kitchen. Fabulous Cafe and can't wait to return!

Nice atmosphere, cute rustic vibes, & the staff are great. The food is alright. If you're not fussy then its probably just fine. My partner and I found the food pretty bland and boring, but not bad. Y'know when you get a meal, and even though its basic ingredients, it just tastes like it's made with love..? Well, thats not how these guys do it. They use basic ingredients, to make basic tasting food. But still, good vibes & their coffee is awesome.

Great Coffee ☕️! Wonderful Staff and the food is Amazing. Only thing is ... the new Owners need to update the website, with photos and menus. It's looking really funky in there now, great vibe. 😊.

We love this place. So great for Brekky on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere and bustle on the street is awesome and the food is fantastic. Not bad prices either.

Delicious meals, great service. New owners. Bacon BLT was amazing. Chicken salad was delicious

Will not EVER be back. My bacon &egg roll arrived and 15 minutes later my husband still had not received his burger. This kind of unprofessional service is unacceptable . When we go out to eat , we expect to eat at the same time , together. This is what we pay for. TRAIN YOUR STAFF! Stop thinking that this sort of service is OK …

The best coffee and the most down to earth, friendly staff make this the best place in town! Cannot recommend enough!

What a find. Popped in today to grab a takeaway coffee and was really impressed. The staff are friendly, the place is lovely. The blueberry and pear muffin was truely an amazing muffin. Thank you guys. Great job.

Fantastic service, delicious pizzas and very family friendly environment. Dylan, the owner even whipped us up something that wasn't on the menu upon request! Loved it, will definitely be back!

A good café to eat in for lunch if you're in Mount Barker. Service was friendly, salad was great, my family ordered burger and fries. The mango smoothie tasted good. Only wished the fries could be cut in a bigger size.

Beautiful food plus beautiful staff. The best burgers. Yummiest cakes and coffee. Great ambience. Mount Barker at its best. Go check it out for yourselves!

Service was good, but the quality of food was awful. Eggs Benedict had chunky hollandaise sauce, and my girlfriends egg roll had a very stale bread roll. I won't be going back. Very low quality meal for the price

Gawler Street Cafe has improved over the past 12 months with better service being the main reason. The best part of the menu is definitely the pizzas that are all made in the woodfired oven. The small is a perfect size for 1-2 people and made with fresh local produce. The cakes are all house made and there are many to choose from - small cheesecakes, friands, and carrot cake to name a few. There is seating inside and outside on the footpath. Even when busy, this place is not too noisy which makes it a good choice it you want to feel relaxed. There is no particular ' vibe' about this place but it is a pleasant place to be, owned and staffed by locals.
Summary: Service improved with most of the staff friendly and efficient; food good choices particularly the pizzas; coffee good. Location easy to find with easy parking on the street outside or in nearly Coles carpark.
Worth a try? Yes - this is one of the better cafes in Mount Barker.

A nice enough place and friendly staff who greet each visitor. However the food is average, despite using a lot of local ingredients. My meal featured overcooked eggs and toast, but certainly very generous portions. The whole meal felt a little flat, but at least it's not overpriced too. Coffee was good, and service prompt. There's a nice community feel, (=noisy when I visited) if you like that kind of thing.

This Gawler Street Cafe is delightful. Amazing fresh produce bacon that tasted like real bacon. Pleasant atmosphere and affordable. I love it for the food and the coffee. As a local I visit most days it is just such a good fit for the hills. Rock on Gawler Street Cafe. I'm a fan.

It used to be nice. This was a lovely cafe for a little while after it first started business. As a local, at first I was excited. Not anymore.
The food and service are very average now. Simple orders are too hard and the service comes with a scowl.
This place had a lot of potential. After the last few experiences, I definitely won't be back.

Visited over from Melbourne and found the food and coffee to be on par with my favourite cafe in Port Melbourne

Wandered up this morning because Sazon was packed as usual. Food is always above average for Mount Barker but this morning I was overcharged and didn't get a good response when I queried it. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Pizza Lunch. This would have to be the best eating place on Gawler St,it is small enough to feel cosy and is always busy giving that buzz feel about it.The food is always good and the coffee would be the best around,i should know as i get one most mornings on my way to work.9/10.

Excellent pizza!. We've been to Gawler St Cafe a few times now and been pretty impressed most of the time. Their pizzas and main meals are excellent but the sandwiches/smaller lunches can miss the mark (e.g. great pork and slaw filling ruined by a cold, stale bun). The service has been fantastic every time we've been, even when the baby's been a total PITA. Add fresh juice to the menu and it would be my favourite cafe on the strip! Highly recommended 8/10

Love My Food
We had breakfast here last week. Great service and delicious food. Not large serves but adequate all the same which made for an enjoyable meal and lovely poached eggs. Will definately go back here.

Love the food and coffee. Had a meal and coffee here for lunch and was very impressed. They serve local produce which meant flavour town in the awesome burger I had. The coffee was great and spoke to the owner Dylan who is very passionate about food and beverage. Can't wait for him to open up at night time for some food and wine. I would recommend this place as it is now the new place I go.
