Review The Barker Hotel - Mount Barker

The Barker Hotel exceeding my expectations! Lovely refreshed exterior housing a nice clean interior setting for diners and the likes. They housed us for a 50th birthday dinner with 3 long tables, and a set menu for us which still had amazing variety. Our meals were fast, cooked incredibly well and delivered by friendly staff. Everyone I asked really enjoyed their meals. I thank and highly recommend The Barker!

Really nice food. Great atmosphere. But a bit rich charging +15% public holiday when it was the Easter Saturday. (Normal day not a holiday) I hope the staff got the bump and not the hotel!

Good service great atmosphere and perfectly cooked squid and burger. Try shredding broccoli stems into children's pasta meals for added nutrients and offering a smaller portion for children under 7. All the meals were huge tbh

Not impressed with the meal. Had duck, spring onion was like string. A friend with a walking disability asked the staff to bring a soft drink, his credit card was in their possession, they refused!!! Great service??? I won't be going back in the near future.

Just had a great lunch here (Sunday afternoon) and it's become one of our go-to places for a lunch treat. The menu is combination of standard pub fare (schnitzels, battered fish, pasta) and some really interesting 'explorations' with a fusion of styles. I just tried the venison with parmesan polenta. The venison was lovely (a bit undercooked so ask the chef to burn it a bit more if you don't like reddish) but the polenta and salsa verde was unexpected and a real awakening for me. I think it was done with a fine-milled polenta, so like creamy mashed potatoes but with strong maize taste that goes with meat and green salsa tastes. Service was quick and friendly. The bar staff seem to know a good amount about the various drinks on offer and they go out of their way if you have special quirky asks (it seems that dry martinis now fall into that category). My venison with polenta was on the expensive side ($35) of the menu but better value and quality than I would expect for a bespoke restaurant. The background music was cool and didn't interfere with dinner conversation. Nice not to have to shout across dinner plates!

Very disappointing tonight, we had an outside table, thats fine but once we arrived the outdoor heaters were not on turned out only 1 worked, so it wasnt very warm, come on u guys you can do better than that, also never any tomato in the salad ....
