Review 5 Spice Indian Cuisine - Mount Barker

I have driven past this place on many occasions since moving near Mt Barker and have always internationalised about trying the food here. I am so glad I finally did tonight. I had the chicken vindaloo, my partner the Rogan Josh ... So much flavour, great serving sizes, beast Indian food I've eaten since moving to SA 15 years ago. Will definitely be back for more, thank you.

Terrible food, I know that small businesses are doing it tough but there is no excuse I had to drain the lamb curry of about half a cup of oil, it had no taste, small amount of meat and more like a western casserole than Indian. The roti and nan bread were the same and very chewy. The chicken meat had a lot of fat and once again no flavor. Really disappointed

Service terrible. Ordered food last night. Said it would take 40mins, took 1hr 20. When it arrived it was cold and there was an item missing (which has happened before). When you call to let them know, they say too busy to deliver what they missed and can't do refund over the phone. Shonky practices - don't use them.

Ordered some takeaway. Meals, rice, naan for 2. Price was reasonable. Service was polite. Food was ready in 20 minutes, which I was happy with. Very tasty.

Great service! Very accommodating and even though they were super busy they were able to give us a very speedy takeaway within 15mins! Thank you so much!

I really, really like the Beef Kali Mirch and haven't found it anywhere else. The rest of the food is great too. Our go to Indian 👍

Tasty good food. second best place for Indian in Mount Barker. Garlic naan there is the best.

Busy hive of take away, so this business is thriving. Our party of 7 ate in and the service was brilliant. The waiter didn't write anything down and remembered all 6 dishes, accompaniments and drinks we ordered. The food wasn't spicy hot making our choices perfect for kids aged 5-17. Will definitely eat here again.

We are regular customers & have never been disappointed with the quality of food & always very friendly service. We revisited for lunch today & ordered chicken masala, naan bread, raita & mango chutney. We felt that we couldn't have eaten a better meal anywhere. Just so delicious, well presented, ample amount. I usually order the butter chicken which is always very yummy, but decided on a change. Masala was just as good, flavours are so interesting. Lunch time specials are so reasonably priced too. We will return.

Had a Takeaway last night. Not impressed at all. Chicken Tikka Marsala was poor. Had 12 large pieces of red capsicum, lots of onion and little chicken meat that was very dense, therefore old, and not spongy and soft. Lot of separated oil in bottom of container. Large rice was only the regular small container you get elsewhere. Not many mushrooms in vegetarian. Very poor guys.

Lovely and warm inside on a cold night, wait staff were prompt without being intrusive, the food was cooked beautifully... we particularly recommend the Chicken Chettinad. The wine list is also very good, and the whole menu not overly expensive. Well done!

Thank you once again for a fantastic meal, and having take-away ready for my neighbours when I was finished, they love it as much as I do...it gets better every time I go. Service is fantastic, food to die for, I don't think I have anything else to eat out now except from you guys; Thank you

Thank you 5 Spice, your food was certainly equal to any Indian cuisine I’ve had world wide. Each dish was delicious with a unique depth of flavour. Service was professional and friendly, we’ll be back, and recommending to our friends!

5 Spice is a place where I can relax and bring friends together in any days. Their food is excellent, prices are very reasonable and the staff/owner very friendly and generous. I loved it very much. Thank you 5 Spice for excellent service.

Ate there on Friday night, fantastic food, the place was busy and buzzing! Great atmosphere, great meals. Had the Azwani fish, perfectly cooked and amazing flavours for entree. Chicken dum Biryani cooked traditional style for mains which was exquisite. Juicy, tender chicken, melt in your mouth stuff. And the flavour went all the way through the rice. Would definitely recommend to any and all!

Regular take away customers, first time eating in. Had ginger chicken, vindaloo, garlic naan, raita and wine and it was fantastic. Ginger chicken a must to try!!

My family and I went to 5 Spice my birthday last night! Great service and amazing food! Best Butter chicken I have ever tasted!

Loved the food, but pointless dining is as the service is lacking, and every take away order gets preference. We saw 4 takeaway orders placed after ours, and served well before us. 20 minute wait for a drink, and the rice was 10 minutes after they bought the butter chicken out. Not impressed, takeaway only in future to avoid an hour wait

Loved the food, service and price.

Fantastic, best Indian in the hills! Very friendly as well, and both takeaway and dine in experiences have been good for us.
