Forget San Churro and those mass produced cafes and putting up with cakes that come out of a factory. Found this gem in Mt Hawthorn - wow such a selection of cakes and pastries all beautifully made and taste amazing. A place that has opera cake gets a huge tick for me. We ordered a tasting plate which included the frangipani tart and an eclair - amazing! Taste sensation. The coffee was also really good - smart decor very welcoming and best of all the staff behind the counter were lovely - good food, good decor and good service- people do yourselves a favour and get down to this place. We need more cafes in Perth like this that serve high quality cakes and pastries -seriously! Can't wait to go back - love love love this place
I came here today with a friend for a high tea and had the most wonderful experience. Every server was delightful and so accommodating. The food was amazing, actually make that a exceptional! The savory plate includes a great selection of vego and meat options satisfying a wide palette choice and then you have the dessert selection.... everything that you could like and would like is there. Their takeaway selection will also leave you wanting to buy a take home bag!

Had the pleasure of having a joint birthday High Tea here yesterday and their reputation definitely proceeds them. From the booking which was extremely simple and more than happy to accommodate the range of dietary requirements we had. We had amazing service from Cecelia, the Front of House Manager who checked us just enough to ensure we weren’t without a glass of wine or pot of tea. The setting was just stunning and the perfect backdrop for our birthdays. I noticed all the staff were extremely polite to guests entering and enjoyed explaining the delicate flavours. Thank you for a magical afternoon and I know many of us will be back.

Absolutely delicious food, the best caramel doughnut I’ve ever eaten! The brioche bun for the breakfast burger was actual brioche, that was perfectly cooked! I will definitely be back, the warm, vibrant and bubbly atmosphere is such a wonderful welcome!

Absolutely stunning cafe the cakes are out of this world.
But to top all that the customer service is fabulous. I had my labradoodle outside and they gave him a bowl of water and a doggy biscuit. So he was more than happy. The girls working are so friendly and really worth letting everyone know how pup friendly they are.

Picked up afternoon tea here, it was delicious. The toffee crunch eclair was amazing. We were well looked after, a dessert we were after wasn't dessert wasn't on the bench, but we were told they were making more out the back and we didn't have to wait long. Coffee and Hot Chocolate were top quality. Customer service was great. What a lovely little place, definitely going back.

Had my Hens high tea at Bites by D of an evening a couple of weeks ago. It was absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing! We were able to provide our own champagne for a fraction of the cost of other venues. The staff were amazing catering for our dietary requirements and let us stay past our two hour timeslot. Best breakfast place consistently! Been here a few times and the quality is amazing. Crispy bread, fresh ingredients with in-depth flavours. The halloumi beetroot is spicy (yum) and the mushroom rocket combo comes with delicious ricotta spread 🙌🏼🤩❤️ I always get bread on the side, too good 🥳 Can get very busy and packed though - limited seating.
A cozy little spot in convenient Mt Hawthorn. Went with the family for high tea and was pleasantly surprised at the selection on offer. As others have pointed out they do sweets better than savoury so please keep this in mind.
Bought a birthday cake from here. They're able to give us a bigger version of their displayed cakes when requested. Everybody enjoyed the cake, it was delicious and presentation was so pretty.
Had the buttermilk pancakes which came with cotton candy and custard. Tasted pretty nice and the portion was huge! Chai latte was good. Sat for awhile and drank another drink called summer sunset. Delicious

Located at the heart of a buzzing new f&b scene sprawled across scarb beach road at mt. hawthorn, Bites by D is a sunny, laid-back and cheerful cafe-restaurant offering breakfast, brunch, lunch and of course high tea.
Though I have not tried the high tea (yet) – I must say that their lunch offerings were surprisingly delicious. Wonderfully balanced and fresh chicken taco with mango chutney, and a perfectly cooked, deliciously moist beef brioche burger made for a sensational saturday pick-me-up.
Extra points for the attentive and super friendly waitstaff, speedy service time, great coffee and the Summer Delights layered cake - to die for.

Had coffee and pastries and they were excellent, as was the service. It was efficient, fast, friendly and no request was a problem. My favourite thing to do when I travel is to sit and have a coffee and cake/pastry wherever I go. I own a small business baking cakes, so I am very critical when it comes to cakes. I had the salted caramel eclair and it was the best eclair I have had anywhere in the world including many European and Asian countries. The crème patissier was silky smooth (not grainy like in so many cakes sold here in Perth), not too sweet and the perfect texture. The choux was perfect as was the toffee and nuts on top. My mum had the strawberry, mousse and pistacchio genoise cake, which was also exquisite. The only reason I didn’t score a 5 is because I found the cakes are bit pricey. I understand that quality ingredients are expensive,
but when the ingredients are mainly flour, sugar and eggs, I think $10.00 per cake is a bit steep. I will definitely be back, perhaps not as often as I’d like due to the price.
Great breakfast or brunch location. Food portions are relatively large and flavoursome. I ordered the corn fritters with smoked salmon which was a huge portion for me. Prices are reasonable (based on location and quality).
Their deserts are mouth watering and delicious which unfortunately I was unable to try, but surely will be back to have some!

For savoury, we had Pancakes, Eggs Benedict, Sausage Roll, Ham &, Cheese. Pancakes was one of the best I’ve had. Sweets, we picked Summer Delight and St Julian. Cakes were not too sweet and unique. Staffs were all lovely and friendly. I cant wait to go back and try other dishes and cakes. I wish they’re closer!

I've been here for high tea as well as just for coffee and cake. The service here has been consistently great and oh my the cakes are so delicious. The high tea was wonderful as well. They've nailed both the savoury and sweets dishes. They don't have a liquor license so don't forget to take a bottle of bubblies if you're going in for a high tea. I think there is a bottle shop around the corner if you need to do a pit stop beforehand

I finally got the chance to swing by Bites by D over the weekend to buy some of their delicious desserts. Looking at the display cabinet everything looked amazing and I was sooooo tempted to get one of each. However I needed to be a responsible adult (haha) and thought I shouldn’t overdose on sugar, so I picked two. I decided on the Mandarin and the Pear because of the season finale episode of Masterchef. I was amazed by the attention to detail on each of the desserts (definitely made with love and care!). When I got home, I was super excited to cut these bad boys in half to see what the inside looked like. The Mandarin was citrus financier, mandarin cremeux and chocolate mousse centre. There was a subtle taste of mandarin and it was not overly sweet. The Pear was pear and earl grey infused mousse with frangipani pear tart. Again a lovely subtle flavour of pear in the dessert. I enjoyed the different textures both desserts offered – crunch from the base/tart, creaminess from the ‘fruit’. Overall they were lovely desserts but of the two, the Pear was my favourite. I think Bites by D is comparable to other dessert places such as Little Matcha Girl and Koko Black. I really want to try the apple and other dessert items. I also really want to check out their high tea option.
Great selection of pastries and dessert slices 😍 it was so hard to decide on just one! Bought the "mandarin" and caramel cheesecake. LOVED BOTH! The flavour of the mandarin was a bit tangy and it's a soft mousse texture while the caramel cheesecake was nice and "light", it wasn't too sweet, which is what I loved about it.
Been wanting to come here for a while but been too lazy too. Thankfully with tickets scored to the Good Food and Wine Expo, I was able to finally munch on their lemon meringue tarts. Since being preggo, lemon tarts has been the go! It was so delicious and super adorable.

The desserts are so delicious, fresh and flavoursome, the owner is welcoming which makes it such an amazing experience from start to finish, one dessert isn't enough because you want to sample them all, I will certainly be back in the future!! Such a wonderful place to have high tea. We had a bridal kitchen tea for 21 people and the food, tea and service was 5 star. Staff were so accommodating, polite and professional. They also cater for gluten free and other special dietary requirements without a fuss. The decor is also very beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place for high tea - be it for a small or large group. Excellent place!

Came with friends on a Tuesday so we got 4 sweets for the price of three. We had them all out onto a share board and each were given individual plates. We chose the winter delight, summer delight, duo lamington and the toffee crunch eclair. They all tasted amazing. Not too rich, not too heavy, not too sweet, just perfect. Very impressed, will be back.
While a delightful high tea would have been an afternoon too dainty for me, some amazing looking cakes and some friends would make a good afternoon tea. In this occasion my ex-colleagues and I decided to visit Bites by D, a boutique bakery stocked with premium looking confectionaries. Came here with my bestie S to have our weekly catch-up and get away from the kids for a while. Of course, being fans of cooking shows and seeing people make gorgeous cakes (that we ourselves could in no way replicate at home) we decided to try out Bites by D.
My initial reaction was quite surprised - while the cafe is very prettily decorated, it was absolutely packed to the gills. I saw a couple of tables of ladies having some very nice-looking high tea, but the atmosphere seemed very crowded because of the spacing, and it was so loud that conversation wouldn't have been very pleasant if we had to holler at one another. It seemed that every square inch was packed, but fortunately there were tables outside, so we headed out there after we placed our orders.
The outside atmosphere was quite nice, however the bar a few doors down had some loud, rowdy fellows, and other shoppers and people walking by smoked, so that brought the atmosphere down a touch.
The cake fridge inside was beautifully set out with a wide array of mouth-watering cakes and sweets that look almost too pretty to eat. S and I each ordered a coffee (regular cappuccino for me, soy latte for her) and I had the Apple and Custard Tart, while S chose the chocolate-layered slice (which unfortunately I've forgotten the name of), and we planned to try a little of each other's.
My Apple was scrumptious! It looked divine, and the pastry shell was crunchy while real apples inside and custard made the dome, which was glazed beautifully. It tasted like a heavenly, miniature apple-pie with all the trimmings. The chocolate slice was, unfortunately, a little bitter for my taste, and I usually love chocolate, so I was happy with my choice.
One of the downsides to our experience was S's latte - when it came out, both of us could see that it had a froth head that took up over half the glass. S got the waitress' attention to point this out, but she told us that lattes usually had a large head - understandable, but not half a glass' worth! She did, however, remake it for S which smoothed it over. S decided to order a couple of cakes to go for the hubby, which they kindly kept in the refrigerator for us until we finished our coffees, but when the young man handed her the box as we left, it was dirty with chocolate smears. Not that we cared much, but if it had been a gift we would have requested another box.
All in all, however, a very lovely place to go for treats if you're wanting to indulge in something luxurious-looking.
Lovely little cakes and delicious rolls too - especially the pulled pork roll (I went back 2 days in a row to get another. Very friendly staff also with excellent customer service. Highly recommend!
Been here for cakes and coffee a few times now. The interior fit out of this cafe is quite nice.
Always plenty of desserts on offer displayed at the counter, a bite pricey though, however you can see a lot of attention and detail goes into making the individual desserts.
Service is good, the workers are always nice.
Will have to try the high tea one day - haven't gotten round to it yet as it's a communal share table configuration and not individual table seatings and am a bit put off by this.
Been here twice in 1 month because I liked it! I reckon they are the best dessert/high tea place in Perth so far (specialising in cake-ish desserts excluding icecream and places that do sell a good dessert on their restaurant menu). I will continue to search for the best place but so far, I'm happy to keep trying the different desserts they have on display! (3 down, more to go!)
Weekend high tea with a few girlfriends. We were impressed with the decor and weren't phased about the shared tables. We were told not to eat beforehand and that the high tea was substantial - we weren't hungry afterwards but we weren't stuffed either. One of the group requested a pregnancy high tea in advance and was told this wasn't a problem but it didn't seem to be executed as there was prosciutto in the croissant. Overall the items were pretty (esp the sweets) but the savoury items especially weren't particularly different or special. Also only one tea/coffee was included in the price and it was a bit of effort to wave someone down to get another tea/coffee so not the same service you expect from a high tea in say a hotel.
Came here for their high tea, but was surprised to see such a small space - one large table that fit a few groups and one longer table - not a very private affair. They also have a section like a cafe that serves their a la carte style cakes or macaroons. The high tea consisted of a selection of 4 savoury items and 4 sweet items, separated in between with a palate cleanser (berry sorbet) and choice of some nice teas. The savouries were so so - vegetable quiche, couscous, mini beef pot pie and a croissant. The sweets were choc orange mousse dome, white chocolate mousse, mango coconut layer slice and pistachio eclair puff. The pistachio puff was creamy and the choc mousse was very smooth. Apart from that I found the sweets to be quite rich but looked quite pretty. The strawberry & cream tea was yum though.

My partner and I were walking down the street and saw the phrase "dessert bar", so of course we had to have a gander. The first thing that struck me was how pretty everything was. And the second thing was that the quiche looked pretty darn good, and was cheaper than I was expecting at $8. There are many sweet things to choose from. Partner tried an opera cake and loved it, so that's a must-try for anyone who enjoys tiramisu. He also took advantage of the croissant and coffee for $5 special, and the lady offered jam and butter with it. I couldn't resist the hot chocolate ($6), and I'm glad. It's 'deconstructed', so you get an empty cup and spoon, two bottle-type things filled with liquid chocolate and foamed milk, and marshmallows. I could have just drank the chocolate, but did the proper thing and mixed it with milk and it was delicious.
There were some fancy looking cronuts (nutella, strawberry & raspberry, and salted caramel) that were tempting, but I held out. The menu also has several different ways you can order your coffee, so I know that'll make a lot of people happy.
Wow, just wow. I had seen the photos and assumed it may be one of those places that creates things for looks more than taste. I was wrong. I grabbed a few items a few weeks go to sample before an upcoming birthday...The mini apple crumble, an opera cake, a little cappuccino dessert and one other whose name has escaped me. The Apple crumble was my least favorite but that's more personal taste than anything being wrong with it. The cappuccino dessert and opera cake were divine and just made you want to savour every mouthful and never let them end. The desserts clearly made with a great deal of thought and care, with delicate flavours and superb presentation.

A Delightful high tea experience !! Came here for a girly catch-up with a few friends while trying out the high tea here.
After we ordered our drinks, they start us off with the savoury course. All the savoury treats taste absolutely delicious. My favourite of all was the chicken meatball, which was so yummy that I just keep wanting more. They gave us the fruit sorbet as our palate cleanser before the second course.
The second course consisted of four different type of sweets which taste amazing!! The mango dome is a must try at this place. I really like how they don't make their desserts overly sweet.
Overall, I think this place serve the best high tea in Perth. Staffs are so friendly and food was just delicious. This place asked for 50% deposit when we made the booking and it cost around $50 per person. Can't really fault the service and food of this cafe, but would prefer if the high tea was not on a communal table. I would highly recommended this cafe and would definitely come back for more...
The cakes sure sold out fast on the Sunday we went. They open at 10am and by 1pm most are all gone except the cupcakes. There were a few tables of people there for high tea. The cakes were nice and light but a bit pricey at around $8 - $9 each.
When we arrived, there were some tea and coffee menus available on the table. The table was set really well with white plates and cutleries with patterns on it. Two guys in our group decided on the girly Strawberries & Cream pink tea which came out in a cute white and gold teapot. Everything in Bites by D seems so dainty!
We had white chocolate mousse inside the raspberry dome, house-made salted caramel cheesecake with oreo crumbs, the Summer Delight cake which was a glittering layered cake with a combination of pistachio and raspberry, and the new Winter Delight chocolate cake with cream cheese.
Wow...found this new place..if you are craving for sweet stuff...this place has amazing dessert...they definitely cooked it with love..every things looks so pretty and yummy.. Def will come back again..

Last year in September I had asked Diana to make my partners "birthday cake" which was a donut tower! When we went to pick it up she was telling us about how she was opening up her own sweet boutique shop! We thought this was a great idea.. Perth needs more of these.
On the weekend my partner took me to the shop so we could try some desserts (high tea was fully booked). There are 2 big tables for high tea and other tables to cater for 2/4 people. The high tea area has been kept separate - which is a good idea.
I loved the layout of the dessert bar and the desserts are always getting topped back up as they get sold. We tried the Toffee crunch éclair & the mini chocolate salted caramel tart - both were just amazing. Loved the crunch on the top of the éclair and the hazelnuts just brought it all together. And the tart was just amazing - can never go wrong with salted caramel.
Cannot wait to go back (hopefully soon) to try the high tea or to even get another sweet treat fix to take away ;)

Dessert bars are awesome and this place certainly raises the bar for Perth!
It's not cheap -- one of our sweet little things was $9 -- but holy heck the flavours are so smooth and well constructed that you'd be forgiven for upping your credit card limit to afford more frequent visits.
My toffee crunch eclair was simply one of the most divine desserts I've had in recent memory. The perfect balance of pastry and crème patissiere with toffee drizzle covered in crushed macadamias... omgoodnessgracious!
We also ordered a few macarons, a vanilla cupcake, choc Ferrero cupcake and an apple dome washed down with English Breakfast tea and a couple of juices. Everything was fairly sensational albeit pricey... $60 for the lot.
The fitout at Bites by D is as girly as it gets. Gorgeous chandeliers hang over the communal tables and each table is decorated with a beautiful gold vase. The dessert cabinet is to be drooled over, with each dessert clearly labelled and the cupcakes housed on their own cake stands. The decor sets you up for a real afternoon tea experience -- bring your bestie, sit down with a cuppa and cake and indulge til the doors close.
There were 3 small groups having the $55/hd high tea today -- the food and serving size looked unbelievable. It was all I could do to not pull up a chair and sit down with them all 😆 Plenty to go around 😊
Note: the only reason I didn't rate 5 is because of the lack of GF options. Okay, so it doesnt advertise itself as a gluten free café but if they were able to offer something other than standard macarons for coeliacs, it would truly make this a winner 👍
This is an elegant and unashamedly girly setting. Large chandeliers hang from the section at the back, with gold and white teapots as decoration. They do high teas here, and it would be a lovely place to come and enjoy their dainty treats for the afternoon.

If you have a sweet tooth and love your sweet treats and desserts, Bites by D is the place to be. It’s a dessert cafe located in the heart of Mount Hawthorn, dedicated to all things sweet. I’ll confess that desserts is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. As Bites by D was not too far from where I live, I was determined to check it out and indulge in some of their sweet treats.
The perfect place for a spot of high tea with the girls. Three "courses" for $55 per person plus two drinks of choice. Plus it's BYO if you're keen on a champagne with your sweet treats! First course featured savoury classics including the best Chicken Meatballs with Roast Capsicum sauce I've had in a long time. So scrummy. Everything is made on site or at the owners Mum's place so it truly is home cooking! Loved the mini Croissant with Swiss Cheese and Prosciutto too, so good. Second course was a zesty fruit sorbet made with blood orange and Tahitian lime. Yum. And the perfect cleanse between courses. Finally the sweets. Oh my! The four choices were absolutely delicious. Loved the Citrus Panna Cotta, so creamy! Such a great spot and you really get your money's worth. I walked out extremely full and happy!
A lovely space dedicated to pastry with ample dine in space. Everything looks beautifully presented. We only tried a selection of sweets on this occasion but the sausage rolls looked good.
The bigger sweets are $9 and the lemon meringue was $6. My favourite was the apple dome which was like an apple pie encased in vanilla mousse. The pastry was a little thick but overall delicious.
Mango dome was also lovely with a mango jelly centre encased in mango mousse. It didn't have the intense mango flavour of a Kensington pride mango though.
The curd in the lemon meringue was silky smooth. Would've loved more of it. Meringue to curd ratio was a bit off.
The chocolate one with a fancy French name I've forgotten was decadent but not too rich. Loved the chocolate crackle base.
If you don't have a particularly sweet tooth then the passion fruit and coconut pyramid is for you. Tangy and refreshing.

A dedicated dessert cafe – and close to home – could be a recipe for Blimpville, but being a dedicated foodie I just had to try it and see what the fuss was about. Nothing wrong with having cake at 10am. Is there?. With my sweet-tooth son AB in tow – doesn’t take much to persuade him to eat cake – we dropped into this delightful venue in Mount Hawthorn a few days ago to check out their wares. This light and bright cafe is punctuated with bright yellow and white furnishings and sparkly chandeliers, and a smallish counter displays the goods on offer. Macarons, cupcakes, tarts, cake popsicles, dome cakes and small tiered sponges beckon invitingly under glass.
A lovely cafe just recently opened in Mt Hawthorn. Gorgeous sitting area for coffee and cake. There are a selection of Gluten free products too!
You can also book a high tea in the seating area that has a wonderful atmosphere. Staff are very professional (a true rarity in Perth Cafes) and explain all of there fresh & delicious selection of cakes. All of the savoury and sweets are made on the premises fresh daily. The perfect size sweets that are also available to order for private parties and get togethers.
The coffee is perfect and the waitress explained why the flavour was so good! just love this place and will certainly be back soon
Enjoyed breakfast here with friends and whilst we were early for peak service. We ordered some coffees and toast.
While we were waiting I got to watch the staff set the tables for the high tea. I was pleased to watch the care and precision with which the place setting is placed.

Stunning!!! Visited with a couple of girlfriends for a Friday brunch, Tea and cakes for us!! We ordered the pancakes and banoffee french toast as well as a selection of small cakes to try!!
The service was wonderful, even though it was just one girl on her own, she did such a good job and went over and beyond her duty to make sure we were happy!!
Comfy seating!! Not overly busy. Great feel!!
And let me tell you, that banoffee French toast was to die for.....not too sweet....just....oh!! Try it yourself and you'll understand!! Will definitely be back!!

I found this little place on the Mt Hawthorn strip and was pleasantly surprised. It was quite busy and they had a few very full tables, so service took a bit longer than expected by they were under the pump, doing their best. The decor is nice and tasteful. The atmosphere was very calm and chill, regardless of it obviously being a busy time. The food was really good. The first time I went there I had the club sandwich which was delicious, the second I had the full breakfast which was equally amazing. Service was friendly and I definitely would recommend this place. Will be back for sure.
Brilliant! It was my birthday present from my mum and I really enjoyed myself 😁 The service was fantastic & the high tea was delicious with a sugar overload!😋
We experienced a High Tea here recently.
Selection of sweets and pastries were nice and creative.
Coffee/teas were a bit slow. Also , my initial coffee was burnt with split milk.
Service was friendly and accommodating.
