Absolutely delicious food.
Amazing food and service.
Food has a lot flavour and fresh.
Service is great too
Will definitely come back, best middle eastern place in Perth!
We were very impressed with this lovely place. We started with the mixed tapas, and everything was delicious. It included falafel, kibbeh, cheese cigars, dolmades and curry puffs. It was all very nice. I ordered a pot of Moroccan tea and had no idea what to expect. It was lovely. Like a white tea with fresh mint. Then we shared the mixed grill and fattoush. Everything was really nice. My only complaint would be that there was way too much dressing on the fattoush. It was very acidic and prevented me from being able to finish it. The salad was so fresh, I would have loved to have been able to eat it all. I finished with a Lebanese coffee. It took a bit for me to acquire a taste for it. As expected it was very strong, but it was quite strongly spiced with cardamom. I did end up enjoying it though. Overall it was a very nice experience and we will be back

Mashawi offers Middle Eastern/Moroccan cuisine in three outlets across Perth – Mount Lawley, Vic Park and Currambine – we went along to the Mount Lawley venue a couple of weeks ago. We had been to a wine tasting earlier and just wanted a small meal which may not have allowed us the opportunity to fully appreciate what was on offer – but what we had, we enjoyed, so will get along again and try more of the dishes on offer.
Awesome food, awesome venue, awesome prices (with the exception of the dips being a bit expensive) otherwise i love this place and am a repeat customer. It's my go to whenever someone asks me to pick a venue because its well located and won't offend anyone in price or sacrifice on taste. On Fridays and Saturdays they even have a belly dancer and also they're BYO
Wonderful food and wonderful service. Especially good that they catered so well for my parents' vegan needs. I will definitely be coming back!
Food order:
Hot tapas (vegetarian) - 3/5
Kofta Merquez Tagine with rice - 5/5
Mousaka Tagine - 3/5
Drinks:
Cocktail, non dairy smoothie - 5/5
Total bill: $76.70
Hero dish: Kofta Merquez Tagine and falafel balls from hot tapas.
Verdict: good restaurant serving tasty Moroccon food. Beware if you order the tapas, they won't bring your mains out immediately. Until you finish your tapas, they don't bring out the mains. Also I feel the tables are very close to each other and we really don't have our little space once sitted inside the restaurant. Another good idea would be if the tables are numbered so staff know where they are going in terms of delivering food and drinks to each table. But attentive staff to cater your needs and a wide selection of food to choose from the menu. Also since it's Mt Lawley, parking is a big issue. Also this restaurant doesnt do walk_ins since they are always booked out on Saturday night. Good idea to make a booking before coming here.
Made a booking for Monday evening. Lots of ticketed parking nearby.
When you make a booking you are told that you can only have the table for an hour however as the restaurant was mainly empty we overstayed
Service is very quick due to time restrictions. The menu has lots of options
We got the mixed grill which seemed to be a popular choice amongst other patrons as well
Three skewers with choice of rice or chips with some salad. The skewers were delicious. The rice was long grain and well spiced.
The spicy Berber ravine in contrast was a massive disappointment. Not spicy. Lacked any flavour. And very underwhelming
Their desserts are on display. The pistachio baklava again was quite disappointing as the pastry was stretchy rather than crispy. The pistachio Turkish delight was delicious
66 dollars for two mains.
Incredible. I love eating at this place.
The hommus comes with unlimited flatbread. I loved that you get both the regular and the fried flatbreads. I could eat just the hommus and be satisfied, it is that good.
So far every dish I've had here has been brilliant. The lamb is tender and flavourful, and the apricot chicken is similarly delicious. The couscous is always perfectly cooked and everything here is seasoned to perfection.
I've also had the baklava here. It's a thing of beauty. Crispy, flaky and sweet. A nice treat to end a great meal.
In my very humble opinion, this is the place to go for Middle Eastern food in Perth.
The food here is just amazing!!! Trio of dips, pastilla, halloumi and merguez to share and then chermoula fish tagine- soooooooo delicious 🤤. The service is so friendly, and the atmosphere is awesome! Plus it’s BYO, what more could you ask for?! 100% recommend and we will come back soon.
Fantastic traditional cooking, right tastes , it transports you immediately to the souks of Northern Africa. With a most exotic twist in decoration and lighting, would be perfect
Decent food, good price, good portion for sharing. Service was very fast and food was nice and hot. Only down side is the atmosphere. It is very very loud on a busy Saturday night.
The chermoula prawns and the cheese cigars were the outstanding dishes of the night! Cant wait to go back and try the fish tagine! Oh and it was great service!!

We shared a mixed seafood tagine. There’s a combination of fish, prawns and squid in Moroccan Neapolitan sauce and a choice of couscous or rice. We chose couscous. The seafood was fresh, well-marinated and bursting full of flavour. A squeeze of lemon on top added a hint of zest and acidity to the tagine. It’s one of our favourite!
Delicious authentic middle eastern cuisine, beautiful spices and flavours. Fresh and soft baklava - a highlight. I highly recommend. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Yum yum yum! The older child works near here so we met her after work and enjoyed a meal with Granny and junior. Three generations with at least as many food preferences. The older child is a vego so she had the Cauliflower and Potato Tagine after we shared the Cheese Cigars and Haloumi. Junior was in a mood so he picked at the skewers with chips, while Granny and I polished off the apricot chicken with rice. We didnt have eat in dessert but the older child took some take away for later. I'm going back for desert another time. Excellent service and a nice chat with the host. Make sure you book as it was packed and ask for a table away from the door (was a bit breezy). A great meal.

We recently visited the newly opened sister outlet in Victoria Park, we ordered the lamb tagine with cous cous and the fish tagine. Both were excellently cooked & served in a tagine vessel. The only reason for giving it a 4 instead of a 5 was that these dishes were just assembled in the tagine and we're probably cooked in a deep sauce pot. However this also could be because of the strict food laws in Australia. The service is prompt and polite & the ambiance reminds one of an upscale tourist cafe in the Middle East. Try their desserts as well, they are as authentic as one can find in the southern hemisphere.
Absolutely amazing food they serve here. We easily booked a table on dimmi, and we arrived to an already busy restaurant. We ordered the Lamb Bamia (okra) Tagine- slow cooked lamb with okra with Moroccan Neopolitan sauce and rice; Muxef dips platter with mixed bread basket; Pastilla- slow cooked chicken in filo pasty with almonds and nutmeg; Batata Hara- spicy potatoes fried in a mix of fresh herbs and spices drizzled with olive oil and lemon; Mixed grill- our choice of three skewers (we got two chicken and one scotch fillet) plus marguez sausage, garlic dip, hummus, mashawi salad served over rice or chips (we got chips!); Lamb Afrah- slow cooked lamb with prunes, garnished with sesame seeds and slivered almonds (a dish traditionally served at weddings and celebrations); Harira Soup- traditional Moroccan soup of lentils, chickpeas and spices; Mixed hot tapas platter and the Mixed hot tapas vegetarian platter.
Loved the tagines (lamb afrah and lamb bamia), both were delicious and the lamb tender and not chewy. The harira was very tasty too. I really liked the spices used for the flavours. We were spoilt with lots of baskets of mixed breads so we could finish the dips. The only thing I probably wouldn’t be keen to order would be the pastilla. I found it was a little sweet, something I am not used to for chicken dishes. Would love to come back to try more tagines!
The food was amazing ... I ordered Hareera soup oh my lord was fabulous... also we got mix plates , tajeen taboulah , fatoush & noodles soup everything was perfect
.the service is perfect nothing wrong with it all the best
The food is always good.the dips were were up to standard but the bread was cold. The shish on Skewers on a bed of rice with salad is always tasty .overall the food is always good.I will go back
Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, huge portions, reasonably priced. I had the Lamb Afrah with couscous and hubby had the mixed grill, both with smoothies.
Service was extremely prompt (we were eating within 10 minutes of being served) and friendly. There was even a belly dancer to entertain the diners! Very cool.
I had a good lunch here (despite some bad reviews 🤔). Food was plenty, beautifully spiced and satisfying. Complementary bread was a nice touch and the service was great . I'd gladly go back for the meatplatter ( much more promising than other places Ive tried) and the sweets were probably up there for me. No problems... all good and worth a try 😀. B.Y.O only 🍷
Booked a table 5 mins before walking in the door. Had originally wanted Indian, but did not regret changing to Moroccan. The meal was one of the truly great ones. Had the mixed grill after sharing the Mixed Dips as an entree. The grill comes with 3 different shish skewers, each very well sized. The flavours across the dish were sublime. And the desserts are delicious. Can’t recommend enough.
Walked in at 5pm on a Saturday with the family and they were booked out. Not a worry, they gave us a table that was not booked for an hour and a half and we were seated.
Warms breads and pickles straight on the table along with water and the waitress set up a high chair and plastic cup for the toddler.
Ordered a mixed warm tapas and mixed grilled and a kids meal. Came out in 20 minutes freshly cooked and tasted amazing. Not one thing could be faulted with our shared plates. The kids meal arrived late so we had it put into a a container with no fuss.
Great service, great food, great spot for a quick family meal. Will be back for sure.
Perfection would be an understatement, from gorgeous coffee to the nicest apricot chicken I've tasted in years. Friendly and professional service, definitely worth a meal before a show at the astor.
Delicious meal and great, friendly service. Well priced. Nothing to complain about and will definitely be back for more. Wish I got some baklava!
The dips here are probably the best ones I’ve tasted in Perth. I got the mixed meats and it was absolutely delicious with rich. I was in a group of 6 and the only meat we all didn’t like was the lamb. I think they need to change the flavour of it because 100% off is weren’t a fan of it. That was the only down fall. Service was great and big portions of food. I’ll be back
Really inviting atmosphere, staff were friendly. We ordered the chef recommended lamb tagine with couscous, chicken and olive tagine with rice and kofta and sausage tagine with couscous. The dishes were very flavoursome and came out quickly. They did make a mistake and brought us a dish we didn't order but rectified it quickly. There was quite alot of couscous and rice compared to the main part of the dish so was a bit heavy going.
I love this place!! The atmosphere is vibrant and exotic! Time and time again I'm instantly transported to an exciting middle eastern destination. I've sampled many menu options and all have been delicious. The belly dancer on Saturdays is a highlight. Great for groups!
had a quick dinner on a weekend night. the menu is quite interesting. we got a mixed tapas plate and a lamb and moussaka tagine - way too much to eat for 2. food was good but the mains we ordered were maybe too similar. the price is pretty reasonable i think. service was very attentive without being overbearing. liked it!
Beautiful little place. It was quiet when we visited but the staff were attentive and the coffee, cake, dip and bread were delicious. Looking forward to coming back here again soon to try more of the menu
This place is amazing! It's the best Middle Eastern food in Perth. The food quality and portion size is exceptional... most people at our event were full just after the entrees. They do delicious tajines with such tender meat and rich flavour. Their mixed grill was a big hit as well. Mashawi has a really nice atmosphere and decor and the wait staff are friendly and attentive. Thank you to Elyas and the team for looking after us and for the excellent food and service
Absolutely fantastic. They waiting staff were all very attentive despite being packed to the rafters, wonderful atmosphere. The food was wonderful, tastey and fresh. I found the portions a little on the smaller side but they weren't too small and given how inexpensive they are they were still fantastic value. They even provide free bread with your meal. Loved it so much going back next Friday
Very delicious food, one of the best if not the best middle easter cuisine restaurant in WA. Staff were amaizing, very good customer service felt very comfortable and relaxed!!!
Love Mashawi. Staff are always friendly and love the cosy setting. Standouts are complimentary pickles, hummus with mince, chicken meatball (wedding) soup, lamb afrah, moussaka, Kibbeh, walnut baklava. Great for family get together as well.
Good food
Very slow service despite a small number of tables
Venue has good fit out, eclectic selection of tables and chairs
Music is good background jazz, not too loud
Great service, they were flexible in allowing us to move tables away from the cold front door. They were extremely busy on a Monday night so I would recommend booking in advance. Very tasty food, I'd highly recommend the Lamb Afrah with cous cous, delicious! The fish tagine was slightly too acidic but still very tasty. The tagines are a generous portion for one, so I got the rest takeaway to eat for lunch tomorrow :D The pistachio baklava was amazing, I'll be back to try more of their dishes for sure!
Great selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Super tasty and very well priced. Only negatives were the size of the side plates and the size of the tables! A little cramped but will definitely be back!
Had our late dinner here last night and it was a pleasant meal! Always craving for middle east food and glad that we found here in the late night as many restaurants were closed at this hour. Was given fresh bread and pickles as entry, pickles was too acidic~
Fish and chicken dishes were both delicious, only thing was the morrocan mint tea wasn't that nice, not so authentic and taste very bitter at the last sip.
Fair prices as well.
Came here with friends one Friday evening, keen to try out Moroccan food for the first time. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. The food was flavourful, and the portion sizes were deceptively large. My friends and I were left feeling quite full, which is always a good thing when eating out at restaurants. Food aside, the service we received was exemplary. After we ordered, a waitress brought out free appetisers, which consisted of a few different kinds of bread and pickled vegetables. It was quite simple, but tasty, and a nice gesture at that. We got our food not long after we ordered it, which was a pleasant surprise. Throughout the evening, a waitress would come and check on us every now and then to refill our glasses of water.
Overall, my friends and I had a pleasant dining experience, which was only accentuated by the polite and helpful staff. I highly recommend checking this place out. However, if you're planning to go on a busy night like Friday or Saturday, try to make a reservation, as it can get quite busy.
We were walking past Mashawi and on a whim decided to go in for dinner. Also they were having a special of any tagine and a sweet for $19.95 (mon - thu only) which was a good deal. Service was prompt and i was shown to a table and my husband went to the bottle shop across the road (they're byo. Corkage $3). As soon as i sat down they brought a basket of bread and bowl of pickles and menu (complimentary and u can re-order as much as u want). The breads were a nice mix of turkish, lebanese and fried lebanese. For starters we had the moussaka dip (eggplant and chickpeas) sooo good!! The cheese cigars (delicious but the pictures on zomato made them look big. They were the lenght of a small finger and 4 per serve. So be prepared ) and the zahara hara (fried spice cauliflower). I loved this dish but he found them too sour and acidic. That was one of the things i loved abt the dish. No pictures as was too busy eating. For mains we shared the chef recommended lamb Afrah (lamb and prunes) w cous cous w tabouleh and fatoush salads as sides. All were delicious and given entrees we were very full. Otherwise the tagine is a generous serving for one. We did find the cous cous a bit too watery but thats the only criticism. For sweet (part of the special) i had the harrissa which was an almond cake soaked in syrup. Cant say i loved this one but ate it anyway. All together it came to $73.90. Service was good, friendly and promot. Only thing that was a bit unusual was they started sweeping around us and we asked if it was closing time and the girl assured us it wasnt (another hr to go) but then started sweeping behind me and under my chair. Highly recommend them and the food is delicious and generous!
Very friendly staff, very busy on the weekend but we we're greeted and found a table very swiftly.. food came out quickly despite it being busy and was very delicious. Would recommend 100%
Walking in off the street and the smells dragged us in. To say that i felt like i was sitting in Tel Aviv would be an understatement. Hearty food, an extremely happy and welcoming staff, and food that fills the soul. Cannot recommend a visit enough.
The food is here is very tasty! We had lamb afrah, mixed grill, samikah harrah and seafood tagine, everything was delicious. Their dolmades and kibbeh are the best I have tasted so far.
Tasty, great service.
We were impressed by the flexible service (altering a dish for us when another was unavailable) and the range of vegetarian food. Decor quite nice and the food was tasty, though the cauliflower we had was a little overdone.
I would recommend this to as many ppl as I could. Very authentic from the bowls to belly dancing. Cheap and tasty. Staff are great and really helpful
Keep up the good work Mashawi!!!

Finally gave this place a go recently and it was so good I've already been back.
We always get a mix of the small plates and a tagine and everything is good; highlights include the merguez sausages, the moussaka tagine and felafel balls.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating, but not as observant of their tables as they should be - it's hard to get their attention. The only bummer with this place is that the Turkish coffee is woeful, the worst I've ever had.
Due to its popularity, I would recommend making a booking if you want to go.
Delightful and unpretentious restaurant set in the heart of Beaufort Street precinct. Interesting food, very reasonably priced, friendly attentive service - we'll be back
Food was flavourful and portion sizes ample. Good venue for groups as the food is easy to share. The lamb arkady is one of their "chef recommends" dishes and it was delicious - especially the prunes! The sweets were Turkish/Greek style and included many types of baklava. However they weren't super sickly syrupy sweet which was great for a change. Perfect with the Turkish coffee. Prices also very reasonable.
Love their mixed grill and all their dips would go over and over again. The service is a plus and so generous with their portions.nice addition to Beaufort st
Visited on a Tuesday night and ordered their specialty fish whilst my boyfriend had the scotch fillet and chicken. I bit into the fish and wasn't sure about the flavour. My boyfriend tried it and let the waiter know something was not right. They said the fish had been over cooked and would make a new serve or let me order something else. I decided to have the chicken and potato rice which was delicious! Even better its only costs $15 specials Tuesday. Definitely come have a visit! If visiting with more than 2 book because it was quite busy that night.
Great service, great food, good atmosphere! What more can you ask. Authentic Moroccan cuisine and we were treated like royalty by the staff. To top it all, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the Mashawi grill and any of their tagines.
Really delicious hummus and babaganoush dip as well as the falafels. Second lot of falafels I've eaten in Perth that are actually crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I like that they give you complimentary bread basket and pickles. It's a nice setting with good Middle Eastern tunes and the owner is very friendly. The only thing I can fault is being able to hear the staffs conversations behind the front counter.
Really delicious restaurant with an exciting menu full of great choices and reasonably priced. Had to check the bill as I thought they had missed something off it!
Thanks for a great dinner!
Popped into Mashawi for an early dinner on a Monday evening. It was pretty quiet, though it was a 37 degree day. Luckily the waitstaff pointed us to the coolest area of the restaurant. I was excited to see cashew baklava, which isn't that common. I tried the cocktail non-dairy smoothie, and it was very fruity and refreshing, and averagely priced. The mains were all reasonably priced, and my dining companion was very positive about the apricot chicken with cous-cous. I tried the cheesy cigars, and the dipping sauce was quite nice, and generally I'm a little picky about them. The complimentary bread and olives were a nice touch. We did end up asking what one of the vegetables was, as we couldn't identify it, other than me thinking it was similar to beetroot. Turned out it was pickled (in beetroot juice) turnip, so that was interesting. The service was friendly. We could hear some of their conversations over the drumming music, which probably isn't ideal. Also, on one of the menu items, tomato is misspelled as tomoto.
I definitely intend to visit again.
We were too hungry to stop for photos of the gorgeous food. First time trying this place and I was really impressed. Good portions, not too big, not too small. Yummy tapas, delicious tagines and tender meat all around. The breads (multiple kinds) kept coming and the servers were really attentive. Will definitely be returning.
Mashawi is the newest kid on the Beaufort St block. This casual, middle Eastern inspired restaurant offers tasty dishes at a very reasonable price. Upon being promptly seated, we were nicely surprised with a complimentary basket of assorted breads alongside some home made pickled vegetables. The grilled haloumi starter was simple but cooked nicely. Our mains - the lamb afrah and the chicken olive & potato tagine were both tasty, cooked so the meat was tender and well portioned. For $25 a head we left full, happy with the friendly service and talking about what we'll be ordering the next time we come for a visit. Worth checking out.
Mashawi offers a range of dishes representing Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine. With an inviting atmosphere, friendly service and delicious, flavoursome, well balanced cuisine, I really enjoyed my experience here. The mixed tapas presents a range of items to share. I liked the filo encased cheese and spinach cigars, the fried kibbeh is tasty and well balanced, not too salty, I loved the falafel which is spiced but subtle and not too intense with a lovely crunch, and the sambousek is kind of like a curry puff with a delicious filling. All enjoyed with some tasty dips. For mains, I really enjoyed the chicken, olive and potato tagine as well as the seafood tagine. Generous serving, tasty, flavoursome and moist tender proteins cooked perfectly served with loose moorish cous cous. I also liked the mixed grill which presented a range of skewered meats perfectly cooked, moist, tender and flavoursome with a delicious rice pilaf and refreshing salad. The sausages were also interesting and unique. I couldn’t help myself in obtaining a selection of baked sweets on the way out and really enjoyed them, particularly, the baklava.
I went there wednesday night, the service was brilliant ( above and beyond).
The food was superb, mains good size & very filling.
The chicken was cooked to perfection (tender).
The spices made the dishes very tasty, not to hot at all. The drinks were not sugary, justy fruity and delicious. The prices were very reasonable indeed.
Cannot understand how they only get 2.5 out of 5. I am an eating person, knowing my food.
The waiters were terrific.....Go and enjoy !
I love Mashawi, and have been back twice with my family. If you are after something different and tasty Mashawi is the place to visit. Personally, I am a lover of Middle Eastern Cuisine, which is often hard to find in Perth if you want to venture beyond the Kebab shop.
The flavours are sensational, food authentic and homely, and even my kids loved it and wanted to go back.
If you love flavoursome food, and want to try something different , I would give this place a go.
I am SO happy that we decided to try this place! We had an absolutely delicious meal! With not many Moroccan places around, I'm so happy to have found a great restaurant 10 mins away from me. The staff are friendly, the food was full of flavour and the serving sizes were on point. I agree with CJM's review - Chicken Olive and Potato Tagine was amazing and so was the chef's recommendation - Lamb Afrah!
I always look for places with BYO and a good vibe and this place ticked all the boxes! This will definitely be our new go-to local joint. The $15 tagines Tues-Thurs are great value!
Excellent food!! So glad this place had opened up on Beaufort, it has been much needed. Had a delicious chicken tagine and shish kebab/taouk and tasty appetisers too with great hummus. Can't wait to eat here again.
Great place to eat. Really friendly service and great food. I love Moroccan food & this was healthy & delicious. I will be back to try more of the menu dishes.
Came here with a group of friends one night for dinner after noticing that the place had changed from the former Char Grill Bistro. It's always hard to find a restaurant that has plenty options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians/vegans for our group, but the menu was great! The chefs were also very kind to accommodate to our friend's dietary needs. Service was extremely attentive and accommodating, and the food was delicious and well priced! Will be back!
A few months ago, just across from the “Scotto” on Beaufort Street, a new restaurant opened called “Char Grill Bistro”. I hadn’t gotten around to trying it but it appeared to be relatively busy and it was therefore a shock when it closed in lightning-fast time. It turns out that the owner of that establishment had grown disenchanted with his own creation and decided to focus more on his heritage and hence “Mashawi Moroccan and North African Restaurant” was born.
Four of us arrived on a Saturday night. The place was already heaving and the tables are packed closely together, lending a friendly and lively air to the place. The smell from the kitchen was heavenly and the menu is simple, fun and made for communal sharing. In fact, there is a whole section of “tapas” and dips to choose from. Most of the mains are cooked in tagines.
We ordered a Baba Ghanoush dip which was delicious and came with some assorted breads and some wafers that I described as “Moroccan pappadums”.
The mains were a lamb dish with prunes and couscous, which apparently is a traditional wedding dish; a rice and lentil tagine, a potato and cauliflower dish (which was far tastier than it sounds) and a platter of shish kebabs with salad, hommus and sauce. All the meals were really nice.
Half way through our meal, the background music ramped up a notch and heralded the arrival of a belly-dancer! This only added to the fun atmosphere.
The biggest surprise of the night? The bill for 4 people was $103 and there was no corkage on our BYO wine. This will become a regular haunt and is such a refreshing change in theme for Mount Lawley.
