Really good food! I don’t recommend getting the gado-gado though, it was a little plain! But I absolutely LOVE the pempek (fish cake), absolutely hands down the best thing we got. Had a unique touch with the beansprouts that had a nice charred taste.
Overall, lovely service, lovely food, lovely decor :)
Fourth time Ive been here... the food is always really delicious and the staff lovely. My fave is prob the beef rendang and salt n pepper squid...... they also have an extensive vegan menu which is nice if you.re going in a mixed group of friends :)
Had dinner here last Friday with the wife and our 2 sons (12 and 14). Food was yummy! I had the Rendang which was amazing, medium heat was spot on, go hot if you have a good tolerance to heat :). The other dish that was amazing was the Bebek Betutu. Ambiance was good as was the service (polite and friendly). Banana nuggets for dessert was only let down for me. We will definitely visit again
We are here two weeks ago (been a bit busy since then). I am not sure what I expected from Indonesian food, my only experience of Indo being Bali. But I was pleasantly surprised. We choose to share and tried the lamb shank, the beef rendang, the mei goreng and the ayam Rica Rica. Check out the presntation of the rice! Everything was delicious and fresh. The service was perfect and we were eating quickly. Don't forget to order the prawn crackers and if you have the entertainment book you'll be very happy with the bill as well.
5 STAR. Most Authentic Indonesian food in Perth. We had BEEF RENDANG, TOFU & VEG, MEE GORENG, AYAM GEPRAK.
Will be going again without a doubt.
Nice little place. Wasn't busy so we were seated and served quickly. Waitress was polite and welcoming.
Beef rendang was tasty, bit salty but good. The mie goreng minus the seafood was really good. Thought it was well priced, glad we finally tried it.
Came here mid week - service was quick. Ordered the salt and pepper squid and satay chicken for entree. The satay chicken had a lovely smokey flavour and came with lots of sauce :) For mains we had the rendang and mei goreng. The roti is the best ever! Super buttery like and crispy. I could eat it all day without anything else. The rendang was tasty and also came with a good amount of sauce to dunk the roti in. The stand out dish for us however was the mei goreng. The homemade noodles were fantastic and the dish had so much flavour without being too saucy. We have eaten a lot of mei goreng in our time and this is the best we've had. We found the food very authentic and it's nice to see a restaurant that's not just trying to be 'trendy'...Something which is becoming quite hard to come by in ML. We asked for some cut chilli on the side in soy sauce and it was no problem at all - came out with the mains as requested. Will definitely be making this a regular place. We have lived in mount lawley for 8 years, I wish we'd tried this place earlier.
Amazing full vegan menu. We ordered 5 dishes and they were all so so good. Love that it is BYOW and for 3 people it was only $75 and we were all absolutely full. Would highhhhhly recommend this place, could not fault the service or food!
When we went the service was slow but the Indonesian dishes are so good. The Mie Kampoeng was selected by two friends at a superb chilli level and it tested their heat tolerance. I have shared a banquet and relished the choice.
Good food, good price, great place to take a vego date. Staff are friendly, Decor is very basic. It can be loud, but I enjoy the experience and will be back to try the lunch specials
My partner and I have been in this restaurant twice and for both times, we really enjoyed our meals. It's very delicious. Lots of options for vegetarians/vegans and gluten free eaters which is very rear to find in many restaurants. Also the staff is very kind and helpful as well! Highly recommend it :)
The food here is delicious! So many vegan and gluten free dishes, and everything is so fresh! Lovely restaurant with great service too. Highly recommend!
Spectacular food with defined flavours. Meat and large range of vegetarian dishes. You could just order vego and not miss the meat at all here. Nice ambience with delicate music and you can hear your conversation with guests. Service is very polite and friendly. Plus when you ask for hot (chilli) food it actually is. Hooray.
My first choice when I'm in the area. Also even if I'm not in the area it's well worth the journey from Freo.
Finally made it back to this delightful restaurant Thursday night after a few months absence.
We arrived about 7 to a packed restaurant and no reservation, luckily they managed to fit us in. There was only one front of house staff member so we had to wait a little while to order. But food did arrive quickly once ordered.
One of my favourite things about this place is they serve soy and cassava crackers. This means I don't have to sit watching my fish eating dining companion scoffing prawn crackers whilst I'm starving waiting for my starter!
Another bonus is a whole vegan menu for me to choose from. I don't think I've ever had a bad dish from here. I highly recommend the lumpia to start followed by the mushroom sate and yellow rice.
Great good and tasty. Nice setup and cosy. Unfortunately the restaurant is under staff - only 1 waiter and 1 waitress were trying their very best to service all patrons. Hope the restaurant owner can do something about it. Overall I'm very satisfied with the food ordered.
Friendly staff,, decent food,, easy parking and very authentic indonesian restaurant. The serving portion is a bit smaller though...........
A very nice, mellow atmosphere with lovely staff. Loved my mains but I can't remember for the life of me what it was called! I wasn't particularly fond of the dessert that I ordered (Bubur Kampiun) which was disappointing as I love sticky rice.
Ordered the Ayam Bakar Madu for Entree, the Beef Rendang Kapao and Mie Kampoeng for Mains.
Surprisingly good and well priced!
Good service in spite of it running full house.
Not too long after Three Little Piggies' dinner at Nunam Thai, Miss Di organised another dinner. This time though, we became the Four Little Piggies as Miss Lydia was able to join us! When I received the invite, I had a feeling someone was going to make a big announcement, woman's intuition is a powerful thing! Anyway, she organised dinner for us at Monggo Restaurant, an Indonesian restaurant. I was so glad she chose this place, I've been itching to try it, but couldn't find the right group of people to accompany me here.
Cute little place. Really great food, and the wait staff were lovely. We went on a Sunday and it was reasonably quiet (and easily got a table without booking). Genuinely excited to come back and try more things on the menu.
Hard to beat for the price. Great food especially in the Vegetarian / Vegan black hole that Perth is. Very friendly wait staff. Couldn't find any fault tonight.
The food here isn't traditional authentic Indonesian food, but it was still tasty nonetheless. The duck martabak was more like spring roll than martabak, but the duck filling was still nice and the chilli sauce went well with it. For mains I had the bebek betutu which was confit duck with vegetables. The duck was good and the meat fell off the bone easily. However I would've preferred to have more Indonesian flavours through the dish. Ordered the kue lapis for dessert. It didn't have the chewiness that fresh kue lapis do which I was disappointed about and it had taken on that soft texture that it does when it's been sitting in the fridge or a couple of days old. It's a nice place to dine if you like fusion/contemporary Indonesian cuisine, but given my parents are originally from Indonesia, I still prefer the traditional Indonesian food I'm used to having.
Made a last minute reservation here for 10 people over the weekend. Great service & delicious food... Great selection for vegetarians too...
Very glad to have to found this place!
Had a Birthday celebration here for 7 of us and we had a great time. We shared a range of starters and mains and loved all of them bar the duck pastry things. The satay chicken had great flavour and the half chicken was so tasty and juicy. With our entertainment cards it was a really cheap night out. Staff were friendly and even though it was really busy they were always there to help us out. Would definitely go back.
I am so glad we rediscovered this place. They do the best Mei goreng I have ever tasted and the other dishes are no too shabby either. If you have a hankering for chicken wings and you like them with a bit of a kick you won't find better cooked, fall off the bone chicken, than this place, but keep it on the lowdown because it's not a big restaurant and I still want to be able to get a seat
I'm a bit sad that it's taken me so long to get around to dining here - it's been on my list for going on two years now and I'm wishing I'd done something about it earlier. It's a lovely little place with deep orange walls that make it seem warm and inviting. It was exceptionally good value for money (less than $45 for the two of us) and the food was packed full of flavour and beautifully presented.
There are a few tempting set menus to choose that run the full gamut of their menu, but we were in for a quick dinner so shared a duck murtabak, nasi goreng and a marinated and grilled half chicken. Serving sizes were generous, flavours were delicious and we polished off the lot with a searing serve of extra chilli on the side.
The service was lovely and I will be back for a more leisurely dinner with a glass of wine next time (especially considering that corkage is only $2 a head).
Indonesian with a twist – that’s probably the best way to describe Monggo restaurant in Mount Lawley. I’ve heard purists dismiss Monggo because they consider the food not authentic Indonesian, but for me it’s often the path less travelled that makes it more interesting. Think confit duck leg, deconstructed lumpiah and murtabak filo triangles and you have an idea of some of the fusion-type dishes available. This small family-run restaurant in Mount Lawley has been around for several years, and is always busy on the weekends with diners and take away orders.
I had a nice time here. It started off quiet, but gradually got busier which suited us fine. Warm, vibrant decor and a beautiful temperature set the restaurant atmosphere...along with some mild tunes which was a nice touch. There was only one waiter, but she managed fine. The food was of good quality. Im not very experienced with Indonesian food, but I found it to be similar to Malay. There were 4 of us so we ordered a package dinner. It only cost $109, I found that to be of decent value for money. BYO is always a bonus too. I would suggest if you get this package to ask the waiter to wait a kittle while before receiving the main as it came out very quickly. Overall, pretty happy with experience and will recommend.
Popped in on a Friday night, on the off chance they'd have a table available. Ordered beef ribs, chicken satay and beef rendang and yellow rice.
All the food was really delicious. Service was friendly, and BYO was a bonus. In the Entertainment Book, so was good value too.
Warming Restuarant. The ambiance and feeling of this restaurant is so authentic and warming. The lovely lovely girl serving us was very good. Food came out all at good timing, she even asked us if we ready for the mains to be cooked (I have a pet hate of when the mains come out while your table is still full of your entrees). Food was delicious and plentiful!
The duck entree was very unique and yum!
Decided to try something different and we were not disappointed. Great menu with many choices - including a good range of vegetarian. The entrees we chose were delicious (beef ribs and duck filo parcels) - both full of flavour and the rib meat was so tender, falling of the bone. The mains were both good but unfortunately served lukewarm. The beef tending was tasty but not the best we had tasted. The barramundi fillets were delicious. We will definitely return.
Great food and service. We wanted to try something new and so glad we did. We will definitely be adding this place as a regular place for dinner. Hidden gem!
Love this cute place!!. My third visit last night just confirmed that this place is adorable! I've always loved Indonesian food but thought I'd never have it again when I became vegetarian, but not so thanks to this gorgeous place. The people who work here are adorable, the food is delicious and it's such great value for money (and BYO, even better).
A nice surprise. Great food and service. Pork belly was particularly good
We went for early dinner on sunday. The service was good, food comes out pretty quick. We ordered the $69 rijsttafel (rice table) which have over 12 different type of dishes. I think the food was good but not authentic, as the recipe has been modernised to cater for European palate. I would expect more spices and chillies on the beef rendang. The egg balado is lacking chillies. The chicken curry need more spices and the potatoes need to be cooked longer and together with the curry broth. The mie goreng has too much sprouts and should be replaced with cabbage and it need more soy sauce (kecap manis). The peanuts given to us was sweet nuts while in the menu it's suppose to be Ikan bilis peanuts.
The dessert was excellent, we ordered the es campur and es putar (ice cream served inside coconut shell
I found the menu too ambitious as Indonesian food has lots of spices and herbs and can be time consuming to cook an excellent tasty dish.
I have yet to try the other dishes on the menu. So I will definitely visit back next time.
GREAT FOOD + FRIENDLY SERVICE. I came across Monggo Restaurant from West Australian Newspaper. It was the best decision i made last Friday night, i decide to give a surprise dinner for my fiancee. The experience in this restaurant was incredible, the food was fantastic, above my expectations. I rang the restaurant and decide to leave a short message when no one picked up the phone, but not long after the Manager of the restaurant called to confirm the bookings, he sounds very polite. Very friendly staffs welcomed us, despite of the fully book restaurant. Besides the food, the ambiance of the restaurant is very homey and welcoming. Great Food, Rendang is the best followed by duck and yellow rice. My mother who is a vegetarian ordered Gado-Gado ( mix vegetables), it was so delicious and she ordered one to take home. GREAT FOOD, We will be back. VERY RECOMMENDED.
A really authentic menu, tasty and great value
Classier than the average cheap Asian restaurant. Monggo is my regular Asian go-to. I know some purists have thrown their hands up in horror at the dishes served up here that purport to be authentic Indonesian, but I've always had great dining experiences here. The Indonesian diners who love the cuisine they are used to at home, probably expect to get the same here. Monggo however, has a modern take on some traditional favourites. It's certainly not like the food I've had on many trips to Bali, so maybe that's what some people expect.
Instead of the traditional duck for example, they have a duck confit that is so good, that I struggle to order anything different. But I did manage to do that on my visit last week. We tried the Ayam Rica Rica, a spicy chicken dish that went really well with the roti bread. We tried the Nasi Goreng - and although we enjoyed it, it just wasn't as good as the Mie Goreng which is always delectable. To round it off, we had the Sayur Urap - a simple dish of veggies cooked with coconut.
I've tried numerous entrees here, including little pumpkin dumplings, lumpiah (deconstructed spring rolls), and gado gado, and all are delicious. The mains I've tried have all been fabulous, and for an average of $15 per main for a generous serve, it's hard to find fault. To add to that the staff are always polite and obliging, and the decor is inviting and a giant step up from some other Asian eateries catering to the masses.
Probably the only restaurant in Perth that serves rijstaffel for vegetarian (table rice in Dutch). We're overwhelmed with the variety of dishes that the chef could ever think of. Worth the money you paid for and tasted amazingly good and authentic. My countless visit to this restaurant has satisfied my craving for homecooked food. More to come for sure
Good Indonesian Hotel Restaurant Style Food. I ate here with a couple of friends because I had a hankering for Indonesian food. The decor is quite well done - reminiscent of a reasonable hotel restaurant in a larger Indonesian city. So was the menu for that matter.
The food here is not representative of everyday Indonesian food served in restaurants for the general populace but more upmarket. For example, Tongseng Kambing is described as "Slow-cooked Margaret River Lamb Shank, cooked in tongseng sauce with tomato, cabbage, and brocolli."
However there are still plenty of signature dishes such as nasi goreng, mie goreng, beef rendang and gado-gado.
Also available is the Rijstaffel (Dutch "rice table") for 2 or more which is the equivalent of a banquet but with smallish servings thus allowing you try many dishes.
You can order the spicy dishes with 3 levels of heat - mild, medium and hot. Fom tonight's experience I would say that the hot level is genuine Indonesian hot so do not order this unless you know what you are doing.
For entrees we shared satay chicken skewers and Padang style (hot) chicken wings, both very nice.
Mains were Mie Goreng Bali (low heat), Bebek Betutu (confit of duck leg and vegetables - no heat), and Beef Rendang (medium heat) with rice and roti paratha (flatbread).
Everyone was very happy with the presentation, food and service. Our waitress was keen to give advice during ordering so that we were not surprised later.
We did try 2 desserts - Serabi Bandung (Pandan fluffy coconut pancakes with sauce) which were nice and light.
The other was Bubur Kampiun (black sticky rice accompanied by flavoured rice flour balls in a sauce. The waitress tried to warn me off but I ordered it for the sticky rice. It turned out to be exactly as she said - very filling - but quite nice.
The total came to $110 or $37 each which was quite reasonable for a 3 course meal.
All-in-all it was a very pleasurable eating experience.
Highly recommended.
Excellent!!!! Food was superb!. Enjoyed my dinner with friends tonight very much (17/8/14). Ordered a roast duck (item no.8 on dinner menu, i think) and the beef rendang, with an entree. taste superb! definitely recommend to everyone if you are looking for a good indonesian food. the best so far i had tasted in perth (tried about 4 restaurants including this one).
Oh, not to forget to mention, they come with a complimentary soya milk drink, which is a thumbs up for me.
Taste of authentic Bali cuisine. Excellent service - we were offered table even though they were fully booked(note for others - make reservations for Fri, Sat evenings). Food portions vary a bit, fast service, loud and romantic atmosphere. And the food? Jimbaran (Baramundi fillet) fish was fresh, full of flavour and well balanced with the raw red cabbage side and the traditionally spiced stew - surprisingly delicious combination. Ubud Bebek - traditional duck from Bali with seasonal steamed veggies was awesome from beginning till the end. The slow cooked duck was tender inside, crispy on the outside and was quite simply the best duck food experience ever.
Highly recommended !
Wow! This place is a little gem! Highly recommended!
Last night went with a friend, we ordered 4 entrees, 3 mains, a bottle of sparkling water a bottle of sparkling water and we brought a bottle of wine (not sure on corkage price) and the bill only came to $80!
Now, onto the delicious food - all our dishes were served with a smile and most importantly they looked and tasted amazing! They were all beautiful but the lumpia basah bogor was especially tasty and well presented - a must have!
For mains we ordered off the vegan menu (I'm vegetarian and my friend doesn't eat much meat) and the servings were generous and flavours reminded me if being in Bali - authentic and well thought out. We had Gado Gado (recommended) the Tempe Medan and the Lobak with one bowl of yellow rice (amazing lemongrass infusion). All were interesting and satisfying but my friend especially enjoyed the vegan roll that came with the Lobak, describing it as pastry like.
We were both very hungry and excited to try a bunch of different flavours so we ordered a lot more than needed and didn't quite finish the mains but at that price, it was worth getting more variety.
Overall the experience was right up there and it's now one if my favourite eats in Perth.
Monggnificent!. Top notch Indo food, great staff & friendly, bustling atmosphere. Great alternative to the glut of try hard "fine dining" restaurants in the Mount Lawley area.
Monggo first timer.. Well, it's BYO. The staff were super friendly and had a couple of champagne buckets to the table in a flash, and the place was PACKED on a Friday night. Good on them for taking bookings, there seem to be a lot of places who don't take bookings, something I just dig, I must be old fashioned. I like to know when I am gonna eat!
Anyway, had a selection of entree's, all of which were great. Wings, ribs, squid, plus others, and all winners.
6 mains between 6 folks, once again all winners.
If you like BYO, friendly staff, tasty food and you don't like the current trend of no booking crazy prices in so called trendy Perth restaurants, then Monggo's is up your alley. ($200 for the 6 of us),
Amazing food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner menu and the service was lovely. Food was hearty and portion sizes extremely generous. Loved it!
It's businesses like this that make Groupon and similar sites successful. Four courses (plus a jug of iced apple tea) all featuring pear. Course portions are substantial and everything was tasty. For $40-something for two people, it was good.
Cheers Monggo, we'll be back for the 'rice table' soon.
My hubby and I had a quick lunch at monggo before. Ordered kari ayam medan and beehoon goreng and we enjoyed both dishes very much as they taste great and are rich in flavour.
I also ordered catering from monggo for my daughter's birthday party ( fried noodle and indonesian finger food) and they taste awesome! All guests including children enjoyed it. Thanks monggo. Will be back for sure!
Perth' best Indonesian. Well decorated. Great parking. Awesome food. Attentive service with excellent language skills. Small portion sizes at reasonable prices. What's not to love. Accepts entertainment book coupon (25%).
Authentic and tasty. We like this place and will come again. It is convenient and authentic and the service is friendly although not really informed. Nasi Goreng was very good and a little spicy.
Will definitely come back!. I came here with some of my friends last week. And we totally enjoyed ourselves. The food were rich in flavor. Gulai bebek is definitely my favorite, with its splendid sauce and steamed vegetables. Not to mention the wonderful entree we had- kwo tie and satay chicken. Service was also very accommodating. We left very satisfied, and can't wait to return!
Sensational!. I had dinner here last night (15/02/14) and it was delicious!! As well as the food being a treat for the taste buds, with an extensive menu and dishes full of colour and flavour, the prices were more than reasonable and the service was fantastic! All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We tried several entrees, a couple of mains and a few side dishes - too many to list them all. But I definitely recommend the Beef Rendang and Sayur Urap - absolutely superb!
We'll definitely be returning!
18th birthday dinner. Last night we had a family dinner at Monggo for my daughters 18th birthday. We really appreciated that we could take our drinks ($2 corkage per person ) and a birthday cake ( served at no extra charge) The food was yummo and the friendly staff were fabulous. The prices were very reasonable. I can't wait to go back there.
Vegan Delight. I came here with a large group last night and it was really good. The service was spot on, our waitress even remembered 20 orders and got them to the right spots after we'd changed places. It's lovely and clean and there is plenty of parking. Being spoilt for choice in the amount of dishes I could choose from (doesn't usually happen), I picked the tofu steamed in banana leaves. I think it needs chilli sauce. I had a dumpling from another plate and they were sublime. I can't wait to go back and order those. BYO corkage reasonable at $2 per person too.
Yum. We ordered lumpia basah (vege roll with sauce) , bebek gulai (crispy duck with sauce, vegetables and yellow rice) and Indonesian fried rice. We really liked that combination.
We were too full for dessert but returning really soon to try.
Hidden vegan-friendly gem. Decided to give Monggo a go last evening after spotting a dedicated vegan section in their menu. Left very satisfied! Bear in mind that they've marked dishes as "vegetarian" when they're actually vegan, as they're operating on a strict (Buddhist, I believe) no onion, no garlic definition of veganism. The two vegan mains (lobak and sayur urap) were really tasty, though the kidney beans in the former could've done with a touch more cooking. Our entrees (kwo tie and lumpiah basar bogor) were faultless. Be warned that the entrees and mains may be modestly sized, but the dessert we ordered was huge - the bubur kampiun (black sticky rice in coconut milk) was delicious, but really rich, and my partner and I each had to pull our weight (quite literally) to do it real justice. There was only one waitstaff on duty but she was very sweet, and incredibly attentive and helpful. I don't think they'd quite anticipated the crowd size we witnessed on a Monday night, but if our experience was anything to go by, its popularity is well-deserved. Definitely going back!
Fabulous Experience. Went here on the weekend for the first time and was not disappointed. Service was spot on - the staff were super friendly and obviously enjoyed being there, and the boss came out to check on each table's satisfaction later. Everyone had a big smile. The food came out fast, fresh and hot, and was amazing. We had 3 entrees and 3 mains to share, and all dishes tasted superb. Good prices by Perth standards too. Will definitely be going back.
Very nice tasting menu. 10 different dishes - delicious.
Great food, really good service and reasonably priced. Will be definatley going back, again and again!!
Great Food...Very Cozy Atmosphere ;). Great food + welcoming service can only be found in Monggo. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Food is incredible above my expectation. I came to Monggo last Thursday night....it was soon busy and yet nothing disappoint us. Although the portion of the food is not so big, but yet it is very satisfying and tasty. It's definitely worth a try, I will recommend this restaurant to those people who live outside of Mt.Lawley suburb. I had such a great and pleasant experience dine in Monggo. Try the Bebek be tutu and the yellow rice. and for the dessert, don't forget to try the Chef homemade coconut ice cream...Yes, It is the best. Thank you Monggo for the experience. Will Come Back.
WORTH IT!!!!. Extremely worth it
Great service and extraordinary taste of Asian food. Thank you for organizing a great event with such a great food.
Above My Expectation. Great Service and value for money. I had been to a few restaurants that provide a similar menu, however Monggo has a very extraordinary display and design of food with an affordable price. The staff are very pleasing and welcoming. Pork belly is one of my favourite's entree and soft shell crabs is my wife's favourite. Will definitely recommend Monggo to all of friends. Worth it!!!! Thank you for making an unforgettable Saturday night and the complementary cake for my wife's birthday last night. You deserve a Platinum Plate AWARD.
EXCEPTIONAL FOOD. Its such a great quality of food, the flavour just right. The pork belly is very delicious. Will have to come here again and bring my family. Should try the Beef rendang, Squid and Soft Shell crabs. WORTH IT!!!! So much varieties of Indonesian food, i just love Monggo, Will come back again - thank you Monggo.
The Non Existent Diet
+4.5
Delicious Food!. I’ve been past MONGGO countless times but it was only after I had finally checked out their facebook page that I noticed its high rating on urbanspoon and its presence in this year’s entertainment book. I make a booking for two @ 6.00pm (we arrive at 6.30 pm) and find that the restaurant is mostly quiet for a Tuesday dinner. It’s warmly lit inside, modern and clean with Asian styled interior.
Our waitress is polite and attentive, seating us immediately and giving us a carafe of water with glasses, along with the clipboard menu. The menu itself is quite extensive and there is a range of nice items there to choose from. We are given ample time to make our selections and finally settle on two entrees and two mains.
We vote for all the food to come out at once, and it comes out crazy fast. Like within ten minutes fast. It’s brilliant service, and the plates are done up very neatly with prompt attention to detail. The Satay Chicken ($9.90) is skewered pieces of meat, smothered in a rich, nutty satay sauce. The four skewers come with a subtle smoky charred flavour from being BBQed to perfection. It’s topped with fried shallots (the best!) and is accompanied by a side “salsa” of cubed green apple and flecks of red onion. A great dish, with the homemade sauce being a standout.
The Sea salt and Pepper Squid ($8.90) is one of the most visually appealing dishes. A salad sits smack bang in the middle, julienne carrot, cherry tomatoes and mesculin leaves. The salad is exquisitely fresh, complimenting the crunchy fried squid. The batter for the squid is light, with very little oily residue. The squid is fresh, perfectly cooked and comes in a generous number of squared shaped pieces. The dish is rounded off by sticky sweet hoisin sauce, which also acts as flavour kick for the salad. A great starter.
The Jakarta Nasi Goreng ($13.50) is another simple, but well executed dish. The fried rice was nicely seasoned with a generous hit of soya sauce and had textbook cut green beans and carrot in it. The only complaint was that it could have done with a tad more egg, squid and chicken (the squid was especially lacking, I only counted two pieces). It was pretty generous on the side of the prawns though, plump and king sized. The scatter of fried shallots on top added a crunchy element to an otherwise well rounded main.
The Beef Rendang Pandang ($18.90) exceeded all expectations. I thought it would come in a thin greasy sauce, but it came out quite the opposite – a thick, creamy peanut based sauce with the mildest of chilli flavours (exactly as requested!). The beef was slow cooked, braised nicely to the point where the meat was quite soft. There was a soft sprinkle of what looked like grated cheese on the beef, but it did little to enhance the flavour. Presentation wise, it was very rustic looking, positioned on a long wooden board also housing two roti parathas (we paid an extra $3 for another). The rotis were beautiful – doughy, light and big size wise (as large as my hand). My favourite dish of the night.
All dishes were requested with either no chilli or mild, and safe to say, everything came out exactly as ordered. The service was fantastic, quick and fast with our very capable waitress (who also happened to be the only one on the floor that night). Our dishes were cleared and requests to see the dessert menu were also attended to, despite the restaurant rapidly filling up with people within the hour. With our Entertainment voucher (25% off the total bill), the whole meal came up to $40 – a rare sight in Perth .... great quality food for very little monetary value. I loved the whole experience at MONGGO and recommend it to anyone who wants to try contemporary Indonesian food!
Eight and a Half out of Ten Beef Rendang Pandangs
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, we will definitely go again, yum :)
Great food at a great price.. Went in with a booking on a Tues night. We eat early, but it was getting busy by the time we left. The food was delicious. Between two of us we spent $70 and were very full when we left. Very happy with their customer service with nice, friendly staff. We will go back.
Nice.. indonesian. Went to dinner on a tues night and lucky we booked, the place was fully booked when we arrived, people were being turned away without a booking. BYO small restaurant in mt lawley. Food is modern Indonesian. Very nice flavours, we had a tasty mee goerang, satay chicken was nice and full of satay flavour and a spicy beef rendang.
Such a lovely little Balinese restaurant. Everytime I've been here, service has been outstanding! The lovely lady is always so attentive, polite and friendly.
Food is always so fresh and full of flavour!!
The Decor inside is so calm and relaxing!!
Lunch deals at $12!
It's our new spot for lunch 🙌
Delicious Indonesian food. It was my second time here and I'll be back for more. The sambal they sell here is also very good.
Nice atmosphere and decent food. Found a few of the dishes were a bit too westernised for my liking but all in all it was fairly good.
The food was SO good and authentic! Highly recommend.
A laid back and casual dining place. The owner and chef were very friendly. Authentic Indonesian food and good portion. Definitely coming back more often.
I'm soooo happy to have eaten in this restaurant many times! Sometimes I like to bring my friends... The food is delicious and sometimes the staff likes to give a personalized "thank you" message on my orders. The ingredients are authentic to Indonesian culture, and the food makes me feel so full. You guys are amazing! Terimakasih banyak atas kebaikannya.. Aku merasa ketagihan banget. GBU! ❤️
Great restaurant just outside the busy area in Mt Lawley.
Cozy and quite squished if it was packed, only one wait staff.
Food was fantastic, beautiful presentation And delicious flavours.
Very authentic Indonesian food with a modern twist, wonderful balance of sweet and salty with great flavours coming through in every bite!
This restaurant was my first attempt at Indonesian food and it exceeded my expectations. Amazing staff, delicious food and minimal waiting times. I will definitely be returning.
