One of the best Indo chinese restaurant or rather the best. The soup is a must order appetizer. The spring rolls were fresh and munchy. The banks noodles is very authentic. It reminds me of the Big Boss restaurant in China Town Kolkata. This place serves the best Indo chinese.
Manchurian Pizza! Yes, I went there for their most popular delicacy. When I was told about this for the first time, I was a little sceptical about the idea of Chinese on a Pizza. On the pizza being recommended by multiple people across my social circle, I finally decided to give it a visit. The pizza crust is neither too thin nor too thick, well baked and the perfect blend of soft and crunchy. The Indian form of Manchurian that tops the pizza is spicy and the manchurian balls are mouth watering! I’m definitely going back for another slice very soon. :)

This place reminded me of Calcutta China Town! Fantastic food, ambience and perhaps the closest taste to Calcutta Hakka Chinese cuisine. The Chicken Sweet n Sour and Hakka Special Chowmein that we ordered were both so good! Will visit again for sure!

OMG! I’ve moved away from Mount Waverley roughly two years now. Always wanted to find an excuse to visit Steve & Alex at Great Eastern. So, I finally did.
Asked Steve to surprise me with one of his special pizzas & boy! He didn’t disappoint. Quality is still fantastic & could still see the passion he has for his food.
Great place & ever so friendly service! Best part was they remembered who I was. The best customer service anyone could ask for.

The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. We have been dining there for many years as we enjoy Asian cuisine. We have always found the staff to be very courteous and provide prompt service. As locals we’ve never been disappointed with the quality and flavour of the food at Hakka. Everything on the menu is a taste delight because of Steve’s unique approach to the Hakka style of cooking. All of their duck dishes have particularly delighted us. This is why we’re there often.

As per recommendation, we tried pizza at this place and ordered exotic special. It came in quite a generous portion.
Seriously, the pizza is on another level. Totally love it!!!! Normally the ham is just extremely salty. The olives is very mild in taste so hubby is happy with it.

If you want quality food that taste brilliant then Great Eastern Hakka is a must visit.
Their specialty is Chinese cusine and Pizzas that are to die for (the pizzas made by a China Man will put some italian shops to shame) yes his prices are not among the cheapest. I always believe you get what you pay for. The taste and quality of every dish tastes just the same as when i first started visiting this restaurant. Ths hallmarks of a good chef who does not cut corners. Oh and the service too is exemplery. The wait staff are all very friendly and the business owners know all their regulars and come over to personally greet the customer. Collectively you cannot put a price on that. So if you are in the area, make the effort to visit this local restaurant. You wont be disappointed. That i can assure you.
Manchurian veg and Manchurian chicken pizza has always been one of my favourite pizza in Great eastern Hakka. But what I found in their new menu was Manchurian paneer pizza which I tried today. It’s very delicious 🤤. What I liked most about it was the chewy texture of panner. So, I am definitely gonna have this pizza again on my next visit.

omg i didn't get a chance to taste the fried rice there. but! the waitress carried it and walked pass, it smells like some genuine fried rice that you can't get in Melbourne!
We needed a quick meal and the staff were very happy to help. The food - beef and duck - was right on and the restaurant was comfortable. Very happy.
These are literally my favourites pizzas. If you haven’t tried them before, I’d recommend these 3: Lulea, Curry and Bologna...Flawless
And try to save some the cabbage salad (comes gratis before the meal) to have with them
I have been here multiple times and have also brought numerous people here who generally have an excellent opinion of the food. The best dishes are the hakka chow mein and the manchurian dishes which are the best of it's kind in Melbourne. The pizzas are a great option as an appetizer because of the crispy yet adequately thick base and flavorsome toppings. However, they are a bit too oily to eat for the main course.
The service is usually prompt and friendly but they are sometimes understaffed which results in occasional delays in getting service. The busiest times are Friday and Saturday night. Other than poor organization at times, their customer service when it comes to modifying dishes and assisting customers is exceptional.
Update: I have since returned for the garlic prawn pizza and it was appropriate even for the main course
While visiting Sorrento and on the way back to Melbourne I stopped for lunch at Great Eastern Hakka restaurant. This restaurant food is simply delicious. I ordered Special Fried rice, Chilli Chicken and prawn with mixed vegetables. Fried rice was well prepared as it suppose to be clean with a lot of meat and was tossed in wok in just appropriate time till each individual grain of rice has the distinctive smell of the wok. Of all the chili chicken I ate in USA, here the dish was amazing, the chicken had a special taste as if it was out of barbecue grill. Prawn dish was also good and fresh. It was my first time at this restaurant and I wouldn't mind driving back again because it is so close to Melbourne, Australia. What impressed me is that the chef and his wife run the place and I felt it was very personable because of the effort they made to make sure customers are satisfied. I would rate 5 stars for food and 5 for atmosphere in the restaurant.
Great Eastern Hakka is one of the best restaurants you will find in Melbourne. The flavors, colors, and presentation of their food is amazing. We found that the fried rice tasted like a dream, and the restaurant had a nice cosy atmosphere. The Great Eastern Hakka is a place you definitely have to visit- it’s staff are nice, and it has a unique Indian-Chinese touch.

I've been a regular at this place for the last 4 months now. There's never a week that goes by when I don't crave the taste of Great Eastern Hakka. The food here can be best described in one word... AWESOME. The taste is perfect. I literally have no comments for the quality of the food here.The service here is really exceptional. The staff are really warm, friendly and very inviting. The owners even make it a point to come and visit their new and returning customers. Wonderful experience.The only reason it loses a perfect 5 star rating is because of the ambience. It's too mainstream. I'd love if the jazzed the place up a little bit.
This is our go to place whenever we want to eat pizzas! They serve best pizzas ever. We prefer home-made pizzas but guys! These are next level. 👌🏼 this place is always full on the weekends but the service is always spot on! Excellent! Always look forward to visit again!

A friend took me here for dinner. Great flavours, my favourite was the pizza. We ordered spring rolls, Tom yum soup with prawns, Lamb pizza and fried rice. The spring rolls where quite oily and dry but the rest of them where delicious.

Unbelievable!!! That's the first word that comes to mind after visiting Great Eastern Hakka!
Unbelievable that a restaurant with such a traditional Chinese sounding name would carry PIZZAS, yes, pizzas on their menu!!
After asking a few questions, I found out that Steve, owner & chef of the joint had spent 20 years in Sweden before coming out to Australia to 'defrost' as he puts it! :D
Unbelievable that I took his suggestion & actually tried one of his Swedish pizza. It was, like I said, unbelievable!!
Tried the Lulea pizza (named after his home town). Tender marinated beef cooked to perfection on thin crust. It comes traditionally with some pickled chillies. Not a big fan of spice, so I opted not to have them. They were very kind to do that!
Unbelievable was our mains. Ordered the Garlic Prawns and tried the traditional Hakka Sweet noodles! Man, the size of those scrumptious prawns! Juicy & BIG! Garlic sauce wasn't over powering but a good balance. Who would have thought of ordering sweet noodles? But it was yummy! I believe Steve said he cooked his own caramelised soy sauce for that dish!
Unbelievable was my dessert! Banana fritters I've had before, but this was not one but two pieces of super light & crispy fried bananas coated in sweet golden syrup!
One thing I know after writing my first ever review! I'll be back for more! Thanks Steve for guiding me through.

For those who are doubting the menu choice or think the eclectic mix of Chinese, Indian and Swedish dishes are an odd bunch you really need to try the food first before you judge or else you're just missing out on some seriously good food.
There's a lot of care and passion that goes into the food that's been prepared from the freshness of the ingredients to the way it's cooked. There's also pride and care from the presentation and cleanliness of the entire restaurant right down to the service they provide.
The pizzas are absolutely delicious no matter which one you pick and you can never go wrong with any of the other choices available either. Our recommendation is to try something different every time you're there because really they're all delicious and you wont be able to eat everything in one sitting.

Had a great night at Great Eastern Hakka. We had 3 yummy pizzas. Crust was crispy, fresh, toppings were well seasoned, full of flavor. Head chef came up to the table a couple of times for a chat which was nice. Looking forward to coming back to try the other pizza flavors.
I heard about a Chinese restaurant in Mount Waverley that makes its own pizzas??!! Asian pizzas? I'm intrigued.
So curiosity got the better of me as dinner approached. Told the wifey that I'll organise dinner and made the phone call. I requested a duck pizza which had hoi sin sauce, spring onions and mushrooms and the mafia which has spicy beef and onions. Walking into the restaurant was a bit wierd as I was the only Asian. You know what they say about good Asian restaurants having lots of Asians etc. anyway, I walked out with 2 pizzas and some Asian inspired coldslaw which comes with the pizzas. I have to say that the pizzas were yum. Beef was tender and tasty. Would've been better with more onions but I'm being picky. Duck was well cooked and tender, sort of like a Peking duck pizza. The crust and base was well made and tasty. Strangely, the coldslaw went well with the pizzas. We'll be back to try the other flavours.
We visited this restaurant for the first time after reading favourable reviews on Zomato. We were very pleased we did.
The food was just delicious. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. It was fresh and beautifully cooked.
The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was really pleasant. This will be our new family favourite!

Chef Steve is an absolute dynamo! Not only is the food mouth watering and delectable, he is passionate about his food and it shows!
Additionally, the variety of cuisines available is ridiculous. With Indian, Chinese and Swedish food available there is literally something for everyone :)

The best Indo-Chinese food in Melbourne so far. I have been here four times now and every time the food was consistently good. The service staff is really friendly and nice and keep checking on customers if they need anything. The quality of food has always been good and fresh. I need to go back for the Manchurian pizza which the Chef/owner advised is a must try. Keep up the good work.

Such an incredible variety of dishes; we had the curry pizza, red duck curry, and the Manchurian cauliflower, and all were delicious! Even the chef came to our table and spoke to us! One of the best pizzas in melbourne with very unique and exotic flavours. Have been there regularly since last few months, and i must everytime Steve surprised us with his new creation.
All the Steve(owner) and his staff are always enthusiastic, and always up to the point in terms of quality of service.
We have been also given label of "Three cheeze group" by Steve. If you are curious what it means, just go there and ask for three cheeze pizza. 😛
What a nice find! Great Eastern Hakka is a very comfortable restaurant with lovely service and good food. We ordered a Swedish pizza, the Manchurian lamb, Hoisin duck, and the Zaou Shui eye filet, which was my personal favourite. Although all the dishes tasted nice, for me there was no real "wow" factor, and I found it a touch pricey for what you get. But all in all, I'm happy I went, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Always a full satisfying dinner
Great food with large servings. The service was a little slow but the quality was fantastic. The Swedish pizzas are out of this world. The curry duck was spicy but with a smooth texture. My mixed Cantonese chow mien was disappointing. The chef even came out to chat with customers which was a nice touch. Still highly recommend.
Probably one of the best manchurians in Melbourne. We had it for starters and main course too. It's a must whether veg or chicken. Polite staff and reasonable family ambience.

I've wanted to visit Great Eastern Hakka for a while and finally got a chance to come in. And I wasn't disappointed at all. Excellent service and food was fantastic. The chef came out and had a chat to us in regards to his methods in the kitchen for special orders (my girlfriend is allergic to mushrooms).

Hidden Secret. Go to this place quite a bit and never had a bad meal, the Pizza is the best in Melbourne in my opinion, thin base, quality ingredients and home made dressings.
The Chinese dishes just as good with the combination Cantonese chow mien an absolute stand out that leaves most places for dead.
Everything is fresh and natural and made with care by dedicated people.

The menu is a little confused and ranges from Swedish to indianised Chinese but the food is tasty and unlike what you'd get anywhere else. A bit on the pricey side so it's not somewhere I would go at the drop of a hat.

for the mains I had this delicate swedish eye fillet with a beautiful home made pepper sauce that matched well with the potato gratin!

Having been successful restauranteurs in the north of Sweden, Jenny and her husband brought the family out here to retire ... only to find themselves starting up a restaurant here. Still reasonably new to Australia and the Melbourne food scene, they have bring together Hakka food plus traditional Swedish pizza. My Swedish wife and I can vouch for authenticity - they are also very amenable to cooking other Swedish and Hakka food on request, just give them some notice. Operations are more Swedish than Australian/Chinese, so its extremely clean and tidy. Menu assumes a biy more of a naive dining market (like Sweden) but seems to be augmented by more traditional menu. Having some Hakka heritage, I'm looking forward to trying the Chinese side of things next time.
Some really unique fusion dishes. Such as Manchuria Pizza. Or an okra and potato dish which reminds me of a vegetarian version of chicken chips and gravy.
Quite a number of interesting vegetarian dishes. Even the fried rice has some unique twists like water chestnut.

Authentic Chindian cuisine. Took me back to 1970s Calcutta .Friendly staff and prompt service. However, we were seated by the door, despite a vacant table deeper in the restaurant for 45 minutes after we arrived. A cold gust chilled us every time someone entered or left the restaurant. Hence 4 and not 5 stars.
Best pizzas I’ve ever tasted! Everything is perfect and you can tell how much love the chef puts in his food! We asked and it’s all home made from scratch, he makes the dough himself without a machine even tho it takes hours to prepare just to get the best quality.
