Review Bensons - Mount Waverley

MW “MW”
"Hidden" away on the quieter side of Mount Waverley is this "modern style" cafe. It's one of those cafes that doesn't look anything different to your standard "corporate cafe," but for brunch or a stop over for a coffee, its spacious, it's comfortable and most importantly the menu has a good selection of food and drinks. The food quality and taste was surprisingly of a high standard, and I would definitely pop in again for brunch, lunch or just a coffee fix.

Returned to Bensons today after 3 year's and WOW. Absoultly delicious food and great coffee. It will not be another 3 years. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Ordered 2 Capps in CUPS + a Florentine, Florentine was dumped in the middle of the table still in its cellophane wrapper and our Capps were delivered in plastic takeaway. On complaining Coffees were taken away and pored into china cups & (we presume) topped up? Coffee was 2/5 and Florentine was stale. We used to frequent this business with previous owners but due to Covid hadn’t been back and now we certainly won’t be going back. Staff unprofessional.

A great cafe restaurant all year round with ample seating inside and outside. Great options on the menu and I have eaten here for lunch with Business clients and team meetings. The staff are amazing and friendly and always smiling. The coffee and cakes are very tempting and being licensed is an advantage for that end of the day quiet red wine or bubbles. Give Bensons a try - you won’t be disappointed.

Ehh it was ok. The food was fine, the coffee was good though. Staff clearly brand new.

Friendly service and good food with a lot of options. We had the fried chicken burger and the vegetarian breakfast plate. Vegie plate was a bit heavy on the oil. Yum burger.

This cafe is not even worthy of one star. I will allow you all to cast your own aspersitions as to the hygiene of this cafe by the state of the hand wash dispenser in the the toilet. Totally disgusting and unacceptable. The heater was also turned up too high and we had to ask the waiter four times to turn it down.

Went here for lunch on a Sunday. Service was a bit slow to start but once we ordered everything came super quickly :) The waitress recommended my mum order the calamari, so she did and said it was delicious! My dad ordered the roasted cauliflower bowl with chicken which he also said was really tasty. I ordered the breakfast board - I was disappointed with the Acai bowl as it wasn’t really an Acai bowl like it stated on the menu, more like a yoghurt bowl with some Acai powder mixed through. The avocado on toast was pretty good except there was too much balsamic which stopped the other flavours coming through.
Despite this, everything was well presented, came out fast, and our waiter was super accommodating and friendly. Thank you :)

We have been to Bensons Mt Wavrley on several occasions, from casual brunch/coffee catch ups to family events. Everytime we were treated with friendly and efficient service. The head chef and manager made us feel welcome despite how busy he was. My favourite brunch item is Bensons Big breakfast, perfect amount of food for those wanting value for money. Not too greasy either. For dinner entrees, garlic bread, aranchini and lemon pepper calamari were a treat!! Very tasty. I had the pork belly as a main but others had chicken Parma, seafood paella, seafood linguini and lamb shoulder. All good portions and taste, esepcially the paella. Parma was on the larger side, might be better for sharing! Would recommend this place.

Came here for breakfast on father’s day, staffs were really friendly! Highly recommend the baked egg! Would definitely make this our regular dining choice!

Visited Benson's last weekend with the family after hearing about their recent change of ownership and Menu refresh! Had the pleasure of building my own plate with scrambled egg, tomato, mushrooms, chorizo, feta and relish sauce.
No complaints on the food and coffee, my husband had the big breakfast and he loved it!The staff were very accommodating and helpful, the place has a lovely open atmosphere and will definitely be coming back as it's very close to public transports!

Great winter menu. New fresh flavours and dishes like the baked eggs. Service has improved over the summer

The big breakfast is a must have at this place, great balance of fresh ingredients and hits the spot with every bite. Highly recommended and will be returning to try many other dishes.

Bensons is a lovely looking cafe, the smashed pumpkin was delish - stylishly plated and tasted just as good!
Service could’ve been better - a busy cafe with a manager running around to get to every table with no one to help him. He was polite and apologised for the inconvenience but could’ve had some help for a busy morning. Aside from that I would return to try other dishes from their menu as they had a great selection suitable for even the fussiest of eaters.

I enjoyed a delicious omelette with heaps of flavour. The portion for the meals are good. Their fresh juices were also good too.
Meal wait time was long considering a relatively empty restaurant. This is a great little spot for a catch up with friends or a bite to eat. It’s a short walk from the train station if you are travelling via PT.

Went there on a Sunday morning and waited 45+ minutes for our meal with no check in from wait staff about the delay in meals. Coffee and food fine but not worth 45 minutes of waiting. Wouldn’t recommend when so many great options in Melbourne.

Cute little cafe in the suburbs. Food was good and well presented and the waitress was very attentive and helpful. Would highly recommend and will visit again.

Service was slow on a Saturday morning. My partner had scrambled eggs and after she felt greasy in the tummy saying the bread had been toasted in too much oil. The pancakes I had were ok. We’ve been here before and felt the same slowness. Adequate overall I reckon.

Quality hot drinks. Chai was a little too sweet but the coffee met Melbournian coffee standard.

Convenient location.

No compliments, no complaints. Standard.

This cafe needs to tweak a few environmental things to give its customers a more complete experience.
Firstly I must say the food was faultless! All four breakfast meals were incredible in presentation and flavour also using a variety of ingredients to awaken the palate. I didn't catch the coffee brand but that was spot on too.

The parts needing attention were uncomfortable wooden chairs, rickety table and a dirty bathroom doubling as storage for miscellaneous cafe tools... mops etc. Not the biggest issues but when the food and service is great the customer could easily hang around for more coffee at least if the environment was a little better.

I'll go back here for sure.

Thank you Alex for your great customer service.
Made our night and the birthday perfect. Will definitely be returning. Have recommended to all our friends and family to come down because of the service.

And thank you for your recommendations Alex.
I Love Food
Dined here for dinner tonight with a friend. We got a great deal booking via dimmi - 50% off food. My friend ordered calamari for entree, seafood linguini for main & a coffee. I ordered barramundi for main. Was tasty but vegetables were not very hot. Fish served with crushed walnuts & cashews. Disappointing this is not stated on menu that its garnished with nuts. I advised at time of booking re my nut allergy. I have an allergy to almonds so lucky l could still eat it. I had the chai pannacotta for dessert which was tasty. Overall great value & was a cheap night out, we paid $20 ea with half price discount for what we ordered. Service was friendly but not knowledgeable & attentive enough.

Great little local tucked away in Mount Waverley.
Chicken and Quinoa salad is a winner and coffee is great!
Service could be a little more efficient but staff are super friendly and obliging.
Juices need to be colder.

j.a.s xx

Local gem. I've been here for breakfast and dinner, and both provided a great feed. My most recent dinner I had salt and pepper calamari which literally melted in my mouth, not stringy at all. And my bf got the slow cooked pork belly which had a delicious BBQ sauce, and really tasty Cajun spiced potatoes. The staff are all super friendly, which is an added bonus. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Mount Waverley.

Well, don't believe the haters.
Check it out for yourself - nothing short of great food and service everytime! The brekky is excellent as is the lunch spread.
The place caters to a very large seniors patronage given the demographics of the area - they arent tech savvy and typically dont provide online ratings. If they did, you'll find this spot right on top.

Went here with a group of 10 for a friends birthday. We had a great night. Food was lovely & so were the staff... parking was great. Definitely heading back there soon.👏

Fabulous function yesterday for 60 guests.
Afternoon tea with beautiful and plentiful rood and tea or coffee.
Robert Tactor an excellent host.

Looking for a venue? You can't go wrong here both price and food.

Been here for dinner twice. Absolutely no complaints. Great food, great serice. Will be back. My partner and I order two tapas and a main between us amd it is more than sufficient. The price is also very reasonable.

Unfortunately this establishment missed on everything. Customer service was almost non existent with the two waitering, whilst polite, totally unattentive.
Our orders were simple. A lamb wrap and a chicken wrap. Both were presented in an over abundance of aged wilted warm lettuce with little care on balancing the remainder of the ingredients. Chips accompanied the meal and they were nothing short of appalling - either double cooked or reheated.
The coffees were OK but despite requesting twice that they come before the meal, they came at the same time.
This visit was on an early Saturday afternoon and there were few patrons.

Great food, we loved the Tapas to share for entree. Our mains were also great, our individual requests met with a smile. Excellent service, our waiter was terrific, a great local find.

Nice food and coffee. Staff are friendly. Few choices for breakfast but the food is tasty and portions are generous. Seating area is spacious.

Been here a few times as I live locally. Great coffee and hot food. Staff are always friendly. The one exception is one man - possibly the owner - won't even give you a smile and makes you feel like a nuisance. If I see him there I'll go next door. Other than that it's a very good cafe.

Nice place, but service can be a little patchy, and not just at peak times. Food and coffee are good, but I'd like to feel just a bit more welcome sometimes.

My daily hot spot for great coffee and tremendous food .
All staff are very friendly and can have a chat and a good laugh with them ,
One of the best part is they remember my name and always welcome me each morning,
I have brought friends here for dinner and the food was amazing like always , NEVER disappointed!
Keep up the good work bensons .

D I S A P P O I N T E D

The service was unfriendly. The coffee was even worse. Burnt.

First impressions count. Saying "Yes??" or some-such, when someone goes up to order, without even a smile, makes this Whip want to WALK OUT and go to De Barge. It is NOT OUR STYLE to do that, but GO BACK? No.

The venue is lovely. Even the location is good, easy parking, away from the busy traffic.
