Review Aahar Indian Restaurant - Mount Waverley

Tandoori chicken and chicken 65 in the entrees were really good. The chicken tikka, butter chicken, lamb chilli fry and naan were all good too.

Not at all good or authentic. They don't know the meaning of biryani, they are not even trying. Vegetable Biryani is nothing but vegetable rice. No salt, no spices, just raw veggies rice qnd tumeric. Had the same experience twice. Unsure about other food items. But please don't wast your money here on biryani you'll be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing. It tastes fresh and somehow homely too. We got the Goat Madras, Paneer Butter Masala and Sautee Pumpkin (on the sweet side) for mains, and for entree Madras Chicken 65 and Paneer Tikka. Clearly quality ingredients, clearly great recipes, clearly good chefs. Will be coming back again!

Great-tasting curries, which are actually extra SPICY on request. Butter chicken is one of the better ones we've had - not too sweet. Very friendly service and pretty fast. Reasonably priced. Small surcharge for changing their set menu, even though the beef vindaloo ($13.90) is cheaper than the lamb Rogan Josh ($14.90). Loses half a point for this. Definitely recommend.

NOT clean ....sticky dirty floors, worse than in a dodgy pub. Visible Dust on the shelves where the glasses are. Made me worry bout the state of back of house. Also, very slow service for takeaway even in very quiet time. Had to wait an extra 25 minutes after the time given to collect my order. Been coming for a few years but something is up. My first time back since lockdown finished. Beef Curry is still GOOD. But will look elsewhere because it was too grotty there.

Service - Constant influx of delivery drivers into main restaurant dining area ( some in flip flops and shorts). Staff kept missing basic needs like refilling napkins and even asked if we wanted more cutlery after finishing our entrée and dirty cutlery was on the plate (take a guess, does your customer need cutlery if the old one is now dirty?). Food quality -lacking and ingenuine attempts at cooking.Greasy & old food that seem like had the same masala profile put into everything, can't tell pakora batter flavour from samosa or potato boonda. Lamb was dry. Best items we had was Naan as it was unfortunately the only thing cooked fresh! Everything else seemed like it was pre half fried ,old filling in samosa, Gobi was pre fried and just chucked into sauce and you can really tell there's no cohesion in the dishes. There's no pride in their work , it shows. Atmosphere - Staff took their time to then socialise in punjabi in the main restaurant just because there was no other customers there. Very poor form. This is not somewhere you can come and eat for cheap either , mains are 17-20 $. So you don't expect that sort of behavior. Hygeine - sticky floors ! Unhygenic plates, poorly washed. dusty shelves. Dark gloomy decor so you can't really tell as you walk in either. Ps- DO NOT ASK US HOW OUR FOOD WAS IF WE LEFT MOST OF IT ON THE TABLE!

The most delicious Indian restaurant I've ever been too. I think it was even better than my friend's mum's home cooking. The flavours, omg, my mouth is watering while I write this. The place may seem a bit quiet but the amount of take away orders they do says a lot. I'd dine in again next time though, the service was lovely.

The worst butter chicken I have ever eaten. The curry was full of sugar and was more of a desert. The naans weren’t cooked properly and garlic had no garlic on it. Food not worth the effort at all.

Fast service. Tasty and spicy food. What's not to like?

Absolutely love this place! Been going for a while now, food has been consistently good (especially the vegetarian dishes), we've never come out feeling disappointed. Garlic naan is so yum, and the kulfi is amazing too! Definitely a staple Indian restaurant, could not recommend it more.

Worst food ever. Not recommend. First of all they messed up with the order. Then ordered butter chicken and all i taste is curry full of sugar. No flavor or taste. There is n po garlic in garlic naan and was dry too. Seriously not happy at all with food and not worth with amount of money they charging for this kinda food.

These guys have changed hands over the last couple of years, and it has become a great local Indian restaurant! The staff are so friendly, which always plays a big part in my likelihood of returning. We ordered a massive feast of dishes, and every single one was delicious with great quality meat. I absolutely LOVED the paneer butter masala and my bf loved the vindaloo. Having an Indian background makes me pretty picky with places, but I definitely recommend this one!

The best thing was Naan. Polite staff but need training. For example, ask me if I need another beer (I only had one), or “is everything alright”, or “you would like anything else”. Also ask me when I’m ordering food if I would like it “hot medium or mild”. Seekh kebab was so-so (very mild too). And korma was very sweet. Good enough decor. Naan was really good.

It was a quiet night when my daughter and I popped in. Apparently they had refurbished the place. Looked very nice. Samosas and Butter Chicken were excellent. Prawn Masala was sadly tasteless. Butter Naan was nice, as to was the rice. Mango lassi and icecream also good. If it wasn't for the bleh prawns, I'd recommend this higher.

We wanted to visit this restaurant from pretty long time, finally there was an opportunity last night. We drove there, finding this restaurant was easy as it was in an wide ally, well lit. There were ample parking available all around, so that checks off one major point in the list. The lady welcomed us with a great smile. There was enough room for seating and to mention, comfortable seating. as it was a weekday I understand they were understaffed, the ratio was 2 : 15.

Ambiance was good, good menu and light music playing in background. We were quick to order and there was a bit of delay in service. We ordered roti and a veg curry. The portions were medium, rotis should have been soft. It was very chewy. We also ordered hydrabadi biryani. It lacked most ingredients, not worth for that enormously priced menu. Need to improve a lot on food quality.

The best part of the whole experience was that we made acquaintance with the the grocery shop next door.

Came out to eat indian food after a long time with my family. Very disappointed with the food and service. We ordered sheekh kebab, paneer tikka, naan and mutter mushroom. The meat was smelly, the mutter and naan were not fully cooked and the paneer hadn't been marinated long enough. On top of that, the service was very slow and poor and the staff weren't friendly. The prices were high and the amount served per dish was very less.
Would not recommend to anyone.

Immaculate food! By far my favourite Indian restaurant in Melbourne. 👌🏼👏😁 The service and food is just amazing and very yummy indeed. It won't disappoint
ChrisC
Beautiful food

I've eaten at plenty of Indian restaurants and this is by far, without exaggeration, the best

The naan is soft, buttery, garlicky, then crispy in the right places

The entrees, even the friend ones, are not greasy but fresh and well balanced

Every curry is clearly differentiated by flavour, colour, texture and sauce - and they're delicious

It's BYO and you get service with a smile. We'll be back again and again

Good Local. After reading the reviews here we thought we were taking quite a risk but is was local and we were tired and just felt like Indian. Bracing ourselves for a Basil Fawlty like experience (we were up for it), what we got was a really nice surprise. Our little party - two adults and a 7 year old, had a lovely meal with more than pleasant and efficient service. The food was great. We shared an entree and two mains (tender beef and tender chicken in each of the curries - one medium spicy and one mild as described by menu and waiter), coconut rice and some of the best kashmiri naan ever. I would recommend Mirch Masala for a casual night out to anyone especially local. No complaints here.

Fantastic Food. The random choice of this restaurant after a trip to the the MCG was a great decision.
The food was excellent and competitively priced. ($94 for 3 incl a botlle of wine).
However it was the service that really set this restaurant apart from others that we have visited in the area.
5 star attention to service and the presentation of the individual courses was unlike most suburban restaurants.
We will revisit this venue at the next opportunity to see if the standard is similar.

Rude, Over priced and bad service. Went to Mirch masala a couple of times. First time felt that the food was overpriced with small quantities and service indifferent. However, decided to go again and convinced some friends to have dinner there with families. The owner was exceptionally rude and service poor. Brought the dishes very late and Naan bread way after serving the curries. By that time we had finished the curries.Refused to bring more naan saying staff is overworked when there were clearly only 2 other families. Charged extra for dishes not even provided. Never ever going there.

Owner says : I am not your domestic servant. That kind of attitude is over the limit. I am surprised how people still go there for dining.
Geeta
Very pushy and rude. Wanted us to order more. Rude comment from owner when asked to bring naan out slowly so they are hot. Overcharged us as well. I will not go back there

Re-Ordering an issue. Recently went to the restaurant after a long time. The owner's behavior was bit odd. We were waiting for our friends to join but the owner was pushing us to order the food and we found it bit rude. Remember to order all your food at once as the owner doesn't want to be bothered with re-ordering.

Will return. We were recommended to this restuarant & have eaten take away & dine in. Pleasant prompt service & excellent choices. Too hard to choose. Would recommend to others.

I have been to the restaurant a few times. Sometimes the owner of the restaurant is overly nice (fake) and sometimes very rude. One particular time he was really rude when I went there with my other friends. He asked us to order everything at once. The service was particularly bad! My husband decided that we will never go there with our friends again. The food quality is average.

Third Visit - Horrible Experience. I have held my daughter's 21st Birth Day at this restaurant where the bill ran quite high and was treated with respect by the owner. I visited a second time round for my own Birth Day last year and while the food was not highly appreciated by my family, I still gave it my tick of approval. However, on Father's Day this year when we had food there I realized why there are so many bad reviews for this restaurant.

I was not told there would be any minimum spend required when I booked the table for four. When the owner came round to take the order though, he insisted we give the full order at one go. We had had a late lunch and were not in for a big meal. When we placed an order for around $70, the owner said there was a minimum spend for Father's Day and it would be $25 per person. When my son in law said we were not told of this at the booking, the owner said 'you can't just nibble on papadams, we need to run a business and this is the day we make money.' We also told him the reason why we could not order more food. He was relentless in his lecture on making a profit.

After the $100 food my son in law ordered a Kulfi, a hard piece of iced dessert, and we requested for an additional plate and spoon. The waitress said 'I was about to bring four plates and spoons for you' This was the height of rudeness and sarcasm. My family said we would never ever visit this place again even if there was no food at all in the country and Mr Shergill was the only person who could feed us. Avoid this restaurant and do not go by the good reviews probably placed on behalf of the arrogant and rude owner. If you don't mind rudeness then give it a go!

Now very average. Mirch Masala used to be a favourite of ours, we dined here and regularly ordered take away. The price has increased substantially and the quality and quantity of the dishes are not what they were 12 months ago.

Unfortunately this place has gone down hill.

I've been here many many times mostly for dinner sometimes takeout. I've always had a fantastic experience with the food and the service. The restaurant is nicely presented neat and clean. Its my go to place for indian. I can't imagine why it's not rated higher.
Lovegoodfood
Quite good food but $$ for amount. My extended family and I quite enjoy the meals from Mirch Masala and have ordered many times, always happy with the quality of meat and the flavour of most dishes. My one complaint would have to be the quantities - portion sizes are small compared to price. Otherwise, a good option is the 'meal deals', though I wouldn't expect any leftovers!

Horrible.... Absolutely terrible. Absolute rip off, rude staff, fatty meat, poor curries and no atmosphere. Avoid.
MIKE Review
2 stories with this one!. This is a hard one to review - as there are two different stories to tell. On the food front, no complaints. The food is quite nice (but it is pricey for meal sizes). The issue here from time to time is the service (or lack of it). Sometimes the staff (particularly the owner) are quite rude. My friend and I were refused service because the restaurant was "full" - even though it was obviously not full. This is bad service and not acceptable. While I have given it a go subsequently - I was hesitant to come back as I want to know my custom is appreciated. All in all, it is adequate - but there is room for improvement!

Not Happy. About 3 months ago, after a day out on Sayurday with family, I, my wife and my 4 y.o. son went to Mirch Masala for quick bite. Place was over 80% empty, and we went there staright from our big day out, so we were tired and as you expect our appearance wasn't as swish, but wasn't as bad. Looking at us the person at the counter said we are fully booked, and this was at 20:15. I felt very angry but did not say anything to him, because there were about half a dozen people enjoying there meal.

We felt hurt and discriminated due to the behaviour of the person and us not getting a table to eat, just because of our appearance.

I would recommend be dressed up if you are going to this place. I am not going here again. NOT HAPPY.

Excellent Experience. Service was attentive, food excellent and the waiting time was short. Would recommend to anyone.
Love Great Value
A regular favourite.... Love this place. Great Indian food. A little pricey, but you do get what you pay for. Very fresh ingredients, an owner who has pride in his food and reasonable sized portions.

Dinner. Went for the first time....Too lighted and lacked ambience..The food was ok though..the entree was paneer tikka. the marination was raw, could have done better with a few more minites in the tandoor...Same goes for Mushroom masala and Dal....Can do better....

Great!. I went here a few weeks ago on a quiet mid-week night. I was really surprised that not many tables were full as the food was fantastic! We had two curries, samosas and naans. All were full of flavour and had just the right amount of spice. The service was good too. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be going there again soon.

I came back here after many years and I had forgotten how fantastic the food is. Top quality food. Semi-formal dining that truly makes for a special dinner. Highly recommended if you like spicy, tasty food.
Gumby
Cracker of a suburban local. Doesn't need to improve on anything really. Does what is expected. BYO always a winner too.

We love coming back to this restaurant week after week. The food is consistently great and the service is what you would expect from any good French or Italian restaurant. We love it!
