Review Sphere Cafe - Mount Waverley

We had a family breakfast today. The kids enjoyed the pancakes and milkshakes. We enjoyed the big brekkie and veggie brekkie. Coffee was lovely. Service was very nice. Very friendly and efficient. We couldn't resist some cakes and slices to take home for afternoon tea.

Good coffee, good service recommended.

Superb coffee. Craving another Omelette. Will be back soon.

Good, but not stellar. That said it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area and need a pick me up. The menu and ad-hoc cabinet has a great variety of things at a fair price. It’s worth 3.5 stars

Visited here last week with a few girlfriends and had a coffee as well as a snack. The atmosphere was basic, however the coffee and food are up to the melbourne standard I would say.

Not a bad cafe. The staff are friendly, and the food is good, although nothing too flashy. They make a nice cup of coffee as well. Not a bad cafe at all.

When you can't decide what to eat.. this is a perfect place. Both eastern and western food on the menu and breakfast all day! But I the main star of this place is the coffee.. unexpectedly great coffee better in my opinion than well known franchises like Gloria Jeans

The Whippeteers remember when SPHERE first opened. It was FABULOUS. Very popular. So busy. Always great coffee and food.<br/><br/>Now? It looks a little SAD. A little QUIET. The original staff are gone. The venue has LOST ITS MOJO.<br/><br/>How's the coffee?<br/><br/>The SERVICE from the barista today was great. The COFFEE was good. <br/><br/>Maybe popularity is like a cycle, a SPHERE, if you will. Will this cafe come back into fashion? Time will tell. The Whippeteers certainly hope so! 😃

Great coffee in a nice environment. They also do a good babycinno - complete with hundreds and thousands sprinkles and marshmallows. Kept my 3 year old happy.

Been here several times since we move locally in October. First time the breakfast was beautiful however last couple of times there has been long waits, hollindaise sauce tastes like vinegar, bacon was swimming in oil around the plate not sure if they changed chefs but disappointing seeing as it's only a 5 minute walk away .

Great local cafe. My partner and I often come here on weekends are always greeted by friendly staff, good coffee and fresh food. A great local cafe.

They have the best breakfast! Love going there with my beautiful partner for a beautiful breakfast.

Sphere big brekky. All your breakfast needs from avo n mushies to bacon n hash.. On corn fritters!

Lunch. Haven't tried breakfast here but lunch is pretty good. Occasionally on the slow side for delivery of food if you are eating in but you can order ahead and if you get the special then it will be quicker. Really good for takeaway. Just about everything is take away which is very helpful if you just want to grab something and head back to what you were doing. Recommend ordering ahead. Sandwiches are a little pricy but they are big! So that makes up any disappointment, plus there are lots of bread options and other tasty treats.

Good food, fast time. We went here after a few friends had recommended Sphere.<br/>The waitress was fantastic. The food came through fast and was enjoyable. <br/>I will be coming back

Pathetic. Too many problems to list.<br/>Do yourself a favour and avoid this cafe as its an utter waste of money.

Great for Mt Waverley. For fav place for coffee and breakfast during weekend but I think the place needs a bit more TLC I think the mixed reviews are due to the place being always busy it happens. Of course there are better places in Melbourne but the is the best spot for this area

Love this place, the staff are always happy to be there and it has a great vibe as soon as you walk through the door. The breakfast is always huge for the price, and the quality is fantastic. Best part about this place is they let us change up the Brekky by adding feta cheese, without ever charging extra $$, and they don't get annoyed when 3 of us want to split the bill, cash or card! Best place in the area for value for $$ without diminishing quality or quantity.

Food and service needs improvement, still good coffee.. Coffee- 9/10- Excellent, cannot fault the coffee taste nor presentation. I had a chai latte also and that was amazing.<br/><br/>Food-5/10<br/><br/>The first time I went here, I had an outstanding lunch, good presentation and value for money, and I left very full. Both my partner and I said we would definitely return. <br/><br/>However, the second time, our meals were really tiny, my big breakfast (usually sausages, eggs, bread, bacon, mushroom, tomato etc) did not have any bacon even (it did the first time) and his meal took a lot longer to come out than mine, I was nearly finished and when it came out, his was basically a salad garnished with a couple of little calamari bits. Not right, not good enough, and ridiculous for the price. The waiter could only say that the chef or whoever changed it and it was out of his control and then walked off. <br/><br/>Service 3.5/10. The girls are very friendly, but one time we were told the kitchen was closed even though we got there before the time it says it shuts on the door and were sent away! very disappointed.<br/><br/>Atmosphere 7/10<br/><br/>The atmosphere is a little noisy, but it's well presented and clean.<br/><br/>Overall 6/10- probably wouldn't hurry back if the meals are anything like last time, but it IS a good place if you just want a coffee.

Okay where do I start... I go here constantly and the food bis always amazing, the staff aee happy and cheerfull and brighten up my day..the coffee has multiple choices. and the pricr is fine stop being tight arses...I dont no what the people previously are on about mosy likely competition....all in all " Get On It "

DISGRACEFUL. Oh my god. My daughter and I decided to celebrate her graduation with a nice breakfast at a place we had heard such good reviews about..Sphere. Upon entry we were greeted with "if you're eating here the menus are over there", a little shocked but thought maybe they're having a bad day so we'll look over it. We were extremely uncomfortable and cold as the table was filthy and on a cold, rainy day the doors were open and all ceiling fans were on. After ordering a coffee..which tasted average..we decided to pay and find elsewhere to eat and apologised but stated it was just too cold. The lady behind the counter became extremely agitated that we had left the coffee unfinished (even though we were paying for it) and closed the till so hard that all the cups on top fell off. She stated that they get hot with all the work they were doing (filing their nails) and that they were the ones who were working so that's whats important (not the customers comfort it would seem). We were extremely shocked at this behaviour and even more so when she continued to roll her eyes and stick her tongue out at us as we were walking out. This was beyond embaressing for us to witness and I can safely say I was disgraced at this service as noone stepped into apologise for this behaviour. It was like a scene from a movie. Thanks for ruining our day. DON'T GO HERE!

Don't think so. Gave this place a go as I really want to give small business a go. Saw the great reviews and pictures and of course the menu.<br/>First of all, I went in, not even a hello from the young man behind the counter. I had to approach him and ask for the menu and if I could sit.<br/>Then I proceeded to look at the menu. Nothing like the one posted on Urbanspoon (but not Sphere's fault for not updating it). But I must say the prices...whoa!!! they've sure skyrocketing.<br/>Anyway, the price is like all cafes these day.<br/>I order a hot chocolate, and a big breki. Was disappointed by the portion compared to the price. Also flavour, very bland. As for the toast, it was nothing more than the $1 loaf you can buy at Coles or Safeway....Really not worth the $. I would expect at least a nice fresh slice of sourdough or turkish bread. With these prices and quality, I'll stay home and make my own thanks. <br/>The hot chocolate was lovely and was the only saviour for this cafe. Oh and the poached eggs were done nicely too.<br/>Maybe ok for some, but not for me.<br/>First and last time.

Very disappointing. Took 3 girlfriends there for Breakfast last Sunday {24th] We ordered Big Breakfast !!!! how disappointing all eggs hard { 2 poached 2 fried ] the poached ones too much Vinegar used you could taste it YUK !!! spent over $100 expect better for my Bucks . On reflection decided to ring Manageress on next day [ Monday ] WELL THE WAY SHE HANDLED IT !!!!! Not very well she said new Chef & he was just learning the ropes !!! It would not happen next time I came in Well GUESS WHAT !! THERE WONT BE A NEXT TIME . There are to many Cafes around with cheaper prices & BETTER FOOD

Ordered the meatball pasta was really dry couldn't eat it. The burger was not too bad. Big servings. Place is bit dirty around the floor etc

Good coffee, food and prices. Great local cafe - with fantastic coffee, service and food. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is fantastic value. I came for breakfast and had poached eggs on sourdough bread with avocado and feta. Was really nice - and fresh. Added a flat white and hash browns which were both great :) Menu is wide - and they serve both breakfast and lunch. All meals are at reasonable prices - and location is appealing (they have undercover outside area as well as ample seating indoors. <br/><br/>Favourtie food: Can't go past big breakfast (breaky) / chicken burger (lunch)<br/>Favourite drink: Flat white <br/><br/>They also have a great range of sweets, sandwiches, cold drinks and fresh juices.

Sphere of Influence. Great coffee. Great food. Great service... All at a great price! The staff are energetic and entertaining and even attempt comedy most mornings!!! :) (I'll get my coffee thrown at me for that line!) A genuinely great cafe that makes grabbing a quick brekkie or late lunch a fun and light-hearted experience. Jen, Lauren and all the team do a great job with a terrific smile...

Breakfast Favourite. My wife and kids go here most weekends for breakfast. Friendly service, great food and coffee and always consistent. My personal favourtie it the Breakfast Roll, as well as the Salmon Omlette

Sphere may just look like another cafe but I walked in today quite tired and exhausted. Good food at reasonable prices was the expectation which was met but the nice suprise was the staff. All happy to be there, customer service impeccable. Will come back for this reason alone. Keep it up girls

Horrible!. Last week I was driving by and stopped to get a drink. The staff were very friendly and they were talking up how good their coffee is to my boyfriend and I. So we were expecting something great. <br/><br/>They got my order wrong. This is fine, they made a new one. The barrista swore they heard flat white not Chai Latte. They dont sound at all a like but that was fine, another one was on the way. The chai got brought to me by a third girl and I was told I had to pay extra for a Chai. I had ordered a chai to start off with and thought I had paid for it so I was not paying any extra. <br/><br/>When I tasted this chai it seriously tasted like someone had vommitted in the cup. I have never tasted something more horrible in all my life. I had to spit it out as it was not drinkable. <br/><br/>Stay away from this place!

On spending a week in Melbourne I walked past Sphere each morning so, on my last day I decided to treat myself to breakfast out instead of the usual cereal and toast. <br/>I walked in at around about 8 so it wasn't busy at all really. I decided on ordering the Gourmet Vegetarian Special (yet I am still struggling to see what made it so "gourmet") and a large latte. <br/>Coffee came out first with a nice smooth taste about it, not too robust. Breakfast arrived 5-10 minutes later. This consisted of poached eggs on a house made rosti with mushrooms, spinach, house made beans, avocado and grilled tomato. The best part of this was the potato rosti. Soft and golden on the outside with nice seasoning. My least favourite part were the house made beans which taste notably similar to the Heinz counterpart. Overall though the breakfast was satisfying and definitely filled me up with just through right portion size for a hungry teenager! :P <br/><br/>Service was friendly and quick with the ability to handle fast rushes. Seating and decor were nice yet personally I would remove the TV as no one had any interest in tuning into it. <br/>Would come back for another meal or coffee one day if I am in the area. <br/>Overall: 7/10.

Unfortunately I won't be back after my first. I found the staff rather rude, one talking loudly in my face to 'excuse her' as as she rushed past. Service was overall unfriendly and my friends and I were left feeling unwelcome, rather strange really. The coffee was ok and breakfast orders looked good, although I didn't eat. A friend commented that the usual waitress who keeps the younger ones in line wasn't in. Pity the young ones need so much monitoring. I'll return to my usual place in Mt Waverley.

Coffee seals the deal. I have only in the last couple of months started frequenting this cafe. I have not ordered a meal as of yet but the coffee is definitely worth it. The thing that I find most enticing about the place are the friendly staff. I will continue to acquire my caffeine injection from Sphere and will most likely try my first breakfast meal sooner rather than later. Keep an eye out on their Facebook page for sweet deals!

Great service. Went to Sphere for first time last week, great coffee and brilliant service by a very friendly manager. Food was first class for the price and they have all the famous Kerrie Rd cakes available. We were tempted back on the Friday night for the happy hour, goes for 2 hours and the incredible Tappas , the stuffed mushrooms were the best. We will definitely be returning in the next week or two for the Happy hour and Tappas, might stay a bit and watch the footy live on the big TV

Not the same. Firstly, the new owners certainly haven't had this for 2 years, it's had two owners since the founder sold it.<br/>They haven't been able to keep a barista for more than a few months, so the coffee is inconsistant.<br/><br/>When this first opened I went to Sphere every single day for either breakfast, lunch or coffee, for 2 years. After the first change of hands the new owner kept the staff, Nom was still the barista, and the food and service were as good as ever. The new owners, who own Kerri Road Bakery Cafe, sacked most of the staff and it went quickly downhill.<br/><br/>Although it has improved, they have put up the prices and I am never sure what my coffee is going to be like.

Very impressed. Great value for money, great service, I can see why the focaccias are famous ! Everybody was sooooo friendly, all day breakfast is innovative and delectable . Really warm atmosphere and a generous meal. Will definitely be making a weekend meal at sphere a regular occurence .

Re last comment. Having read the reviews especially from previous employee i am very surprised at her comment as she has worked there obviously her expectations of a clean cafe weren't up to mutch.<br/>I have been there before the new owners who by the way have had it just on two years so not so new .It definately wasnt clean and now it certainly is and the food ,coffee and happy staff make it a pleasant place to catch up with friends any time of the day.

Yes, the food was better than i gave them credit for but still not reflective of the price. When even on a terrible day you could feel the love and warmth when you walked in.<br/>I would usually go back to a place if there was one redeeming quality (eg: food was terrible but coffee or service was okay) but unfortunately there is nothing drawing me back =(

Rubbish service. Been here a few times as work round the corner. Food isn't too bad but slightly overpriced. Service is quite poor though. There is no apparent que so it can seem like a bit of a free for all. Service is slow, took about 15 minutes to order and recieve a ham sandwich and that was with about 5-6 staff behind the counter and as many customers in the cafe. can't see myself going back.

Great breakfast. First time at Sphere and will be back. All day breakfast everyday, modern cafe with tables out front and undercover out the back as well as inside. Has the big breakfast and it was big!! Eggs, toast, sausages, bacon - the works for $16.50! Staff were very friendly

GREAT RECOVERING BREKKI. Went there last Sunday for Breakfast after a big night out. <br/>usually i would hate the bubbley staff when hungover but they made my experince more exciting, they where super friendly and ready to help out!<br/><br/>Scored myself a massive BIG BREKFAST all for only $16.50. Eggs, Bacon, Hashbrowns, Sausages, Mushrooms & Tomato. Couldnt eat it all but was amazing. <br/><br/>Def reccomend anyone to go down there

I like Sphere... But they do need to do away with the Lipton tea bags and get some decent leaf tea. Who wants to pay for a tea bag when I can have that at home for free? Good chai lattes keep me happy though!

Incredibly poor service, ordered a sandwhich and the girl stopped making it when another patron arrived (obviously a regular) took her order and then made her sandwich! Came back to mine after serving her, then advised me she didn't have all the ingredients for my order! I was then charged $8.50 for the priviledge! Good luck to the owner, you won't see me again.

Called in there last Sunday for Brunch the service is quick and friendly the food first class and well priced and I loved the coffee in fact I ended up having 3 cups Will definitely be going back soon perhaps might have a glass of champers to start my next meal

Was Excellent. No More.. This place used to be fantastic - when the former owners ran the place. It had personality, the servings generous, the quality great, the prices low. The coffee used to be made by a genuine coffee enthusiast, who cared about what he was doing. No more! LOL, it's now like getting a coffee at the airport! You know it's not good when you order a latte and 20 seconds later, it's made. The vibe has gone, the coffee made without care, the food has lost taste and the prices have gone up. I hope the new owner is reading this, because trust me, that place used to be run by a crack team of people that always had a smile and provided good value. It's a massive dissappointment, as we live only two blocks from Sphere, but after giving Sphere seven, yes seven opportunities to improve their game, they have not.

Gone to the dogs. I used to love this place for a weekend brunch or to take a client for a coffee during the week but ever since the change of chef and or ownership this place has lost the plot.<br/>Such a shame. Will say the coffee is still ok, still get take away coffees from there as a matter of convenience but the meals are no good anymore.

Being accidentally given meat when you're vegetarian is never going to go down well! Got a refund but that's really not the point.

Awesome food!. The food, service and coffee at Sphere Cafe was awesome. You've got to try the Calamari Salad - I liked it so much I took a photo.. It's the best... I had no trouble paying a good price for quality food. I'm hooked. Staff are really cool too...

It's over. The food simply just DOES NOT hit the mark at Sphere. I don't mind a price hike with new owners coming in, but the food continues to disappoint. Not to mention - omelette missing key ingredients and other things accidentally left off the plate.<br/><br/>I'm afraid I'm going to have to find a new local brunch spot. Shame.

Food has increased in price, serves have decreased in size since new management took over as well, new computer ordering system can be difficult if you want anything that deviates from the set menu. New menu as well which got rid of some cool salads that I liked
