Review Shavans Pinewood - Mount Waverley

I really do not recommend anyone to visit this place. The food is not worth for the money at all and I’ve got the worst customer service. Only the person served our table was nice. There were two female staff members behind the counter who gave us very bad looks and were frowning on us. It was really nasty and it ruined our day. Also the restaurant went back on their words as they did not provide us a chance to take the leftovers home as they promised earlier. We’ve spent money and they said that they will be throwing the food to the garbage bin but will not allow to take the leftovers home. Really sad to see the food waste. Please think twice if you plan to visit. I am not sure whether they are going to serve the leftovers to other customers. Be careful.

Nice quiet place to have a relaxed meal. Had fish cutlets with other food we ordered and so tasty.

Very spacious and clean restaurant. The corporate buffet is worth a try for a clam lunch with office colleagues its a 3 course meal. Service is good, food taste decent and affordable.

A hidden gem. The food is absolutely outstanding - it’s difficult to find great Sri Lankan food in Melbourne, and this place is the best I’ve come across. We had hoppers for dinner, and they were so delicious! The chicken curry was spicy, complex and authentic. YOU MUST GET THE HOPPERS! Vibe/ atmosphere is not super modern, it’s just a really warm and nice. The service is very good. I seriously highly recommend this place.

It is a well maintained, well decorated Indian/ Sri Lankan restaurant. I ordered Goat curry that was not in the menu and the owner obliged. The dish didn't disappoint me at all. Lamb Roghan Josh, Prawn curry, fish masala, garlic naans, butter chicken, chutneys etc. everything was cooked to perfection. Food is indeed very delicious, although they can slightly improve the Daal (dhal) Makhani which is a North Indian dish. Live music was an added bonus.

What a pathetic restaurant, had a very poor service from here and the owner was the rudest person I have ever met. The girl who served is said the prices have changed and new prices are different than what is displayed in the menu. What a rip off !!!! Menu prices are different than what he wants to charge. Would never recommend to anyone. Shame on u on running a business like this. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

During the difficult times of covid where most places were closed these guys provided me with feeds that reminded me of back home. Authentic food which taste as good if not better than your own mothers cooking!! Due to this as soon as lockdowns we’re lifted I had my going away drinks at their upstairs bar. This was another level and all my guest had a blast. The owner was super nice and very accomodating to my every need!! Highly recommend this place either for a chill dinner or an all out party this place has you covered. I wish we could give a bonus star because if we could they surely deserve it!!

Okay food. Horrible service. Won't go there again. Should've read Zomato reviews before visiting. If you are on the fence deciding between this and another place.... this one is definitely a miss.

If you want really good Indian food, service and experience. <br/><br/>This is the place to avoid at all costs !!<br/>The place was dead quite and service was extremely slow. When the food did arrive, it had the taste of something that was cooked days ago and the chicken didn’t taste right. <br/><br/>I definitely wouldn’t advise coming here, truth be told.

Came here for dinner on Sunday. Place was deserted. Food was very ordinary , rice was dry and sea food was not tasty at all, will not come again ever.<br/>

A hidden gem. When you think of Indian food in a shopping strip environment, no doubt you probably think of cheap and nasty bain-maries filled with trays of congealed sauce and tiny bits of overcooked chicken. This is not that. At all. The food here is elegant and delicious, at more than reasonable prices for the quality, and the affable staff do an incredible job building ambience even when the restaurant is quiet. Will definitely return as often as possible when I'm in the area.

The food here is delicious! The Sri Lankan and Indian food is authentic, their use of spices is not toned down like at most other restaurants. I especially recommend their black pork curry and fried calamari. The restaurant has nice ambience and I definitely recommend this place for good Sri Lankan/Indian food. While Shavans is more expensive than your typical Indian joint, it's food is definitely more flavorful.

I have to say without a doubt, the /worst/ place I've ever eaten. When I saw the other reviews, I was shocked! Did I get the place mixed up? Definitely not, it's definitely Shavan's at Pinewood. The other reviews all seem to be pretty old, so perhaps that's it...<br/><br/>I came here on a Sunday evening, around 7pm after a movie. The decor seemed nice, perfect for a date. And that's where any positive things I have to say end.<br/><br/>1. Food was disgusting. I ordered Sri Lankan fish, and I swear they gave me canned tuna that had been cooked again in some overly spicy and salty gravy until it was unbelievably hard and dry. I couldn't make a dent in it with my spoon. My date ordered Batu Moju (eggplant) and it was literally burned to charcoal in parts, and very stingy on the actual eggplant. The rice was hard and felt like it had been in the fridge for days.<br/><br/>2. Service was absolutely atrocious. The waiter was rude, and pressured us to order, and i had to remind him three times for water, even though there was only one other person in the restaurant!<br/><br/>3. The last straw was when I called the waiter over to ask how the fish was made, and to suggest cooking it for a lesser amount of time since it was very overcooked. He just mansplained over me that this is how traditional Sri Lankan fish is cooked, and this is a quote, "you must have something wrong with your tastebuds". I then invited him to try the fish and see for himself and tell me to my face it was delicious. He replied that "there's no need for me to do that" and said I was welcome to eat elsewhere!! I said I would be leaving a negative review re: his service, he just smirked at me, said "go ahead", and went back to his phone.<br/><br/>It was a first date, and I had been hesitant to appear picky and rude, but after that display we stared at each other, laughed about how this was literally the worst dinner either of us had ever had, and left to share a HSP.<br/><br/>PS: a friend of mine bought takeaway from here a couple months later on a Thursday night, she went with a safer chicken option... She said it was the worst chicken she'd ever had - tough, overcooked, and oversalted.<br/><br/>I honestly have no idea how this place is still in business, and I /really/ don't know what's up with the other reviews here!

Today we had the ‘banquet’ for two. <br/>The customer service was excellent, our 5 year old really only eats the plain rice and they didn’t even query the fact we hadn’t ordered for her. <br/>It was quite unique to have the tandoori chicken and cutlets and samosas. The samosas were a fantastic portion and guessing they are made on site. <br/>The mains were the perfect quantity and offering more rice and naan was a lovely touch that will definitely bring us back. <br/>Having some traditional desserts and tea was a great way to finish the banquet and perhaps exposed us to dishes we may order next time that would not have thought to order.<br/>The ambience is great, loved the music but a bit cold. <br/>If you make sure you bring a jacket you will have a great meal. Definitely be back.

Went for their Sri Lankan Buffet lunch with my partner and totally enjoyed it. The ambience was lovely and the staff/service was friendly and excellent.  There was a good range of dishes to try.  The hoppers (we tried the plain, egg and sweet versions) were all fresh, crisp and flavourful.  My egg hopper in particular was cooked to absolute perfection!  I have never liked kottu roti but Shavan's version has changed my mind - great taste and texture!  The lotus root curry was new for me and I went back for seconds.  The sambols were great too.  I was very impressed overall and think the price is very reasonable for the quality of food and service.  Will definitely try the South Indian buffet another time.  Would recommend this restaurant to friends :)

We visited this place with its reference on Zomato. The ambience was good but the place is too pricey when compared to other Indian restaurants. These guys have put their take away menu and prices on Zomato, which fooled us, while their dine-in prices are too pricey. Though the food was okay, this place is not a right place for the diners looking to spend reasonable price. Despite we highlighting this to the owner/manager, he smiled helplessly and charged the higher rates.

Had dinner today. Food served felt like left over food not fresh. Food was cold and tasteless. We expected better for the price. Would not go again.

We had a very good and funny evening with friends there! The owner was very friendly and funny, which is great for the atmosphere as well the other staff is friendly and lovely. We had a great evening, and we will come definitely again.

In comparison to the one in Patterson Lakes, there are a few differences: decor - Mount Waverley is more ornate but smaller, it's also more quiet (even for a Thursday night), and in terms of taste; it's enjoyable but Patterson Lakes is a bit more preferred.<br/>Lovely service and atmosphere has potential.

I shall never ever visit this restaurant again and shall never recommend it to anyone. The food quality is pathetic. Portion size is small. We ordered Chicken-65 for Entre. The chicken was chewy, flavorless  and cold. For mains we ordered Chicken Calcutta and Chicken Chettinad. The Chicken Chettinad had raw tomatoes in it. Flavour was missing. I don't think their chef knows how to cook Indian food. This used to be a good restaurant a year ago. Something has changed which has made it worst restaurant in the suburb.

Words cannot describe how excellent this restaurant is. This is some of the best Sri Lankan/Indian food I have ever tasted. The variety is huge, food is fresh, portion sizes are big and the restaurant itself is beautiful. I had take away but I can't wait to go and eat in at the restaurant. I can't stress enough how nice and attractive the restaurant is. The manager and staff are so kind as well.

Shavans have really come a long way and is the best Indian / Sri Lankan cusine I can find In the area.<br/>Great naan bread , chicken saag is my favourite and they have the best vegetable samosas I've had. <br/><br/>Great service and very happy staff. You can tell the owner really cares about his business.<br/>They have there own app to store stamps for a discount after five visits to which I thought was very cool

Mama Mia...Sunday buffet is absolute killer. Unlimited food with quiet a fair amount of dishes sply South Indian. Must visit for Sunday Lunch if you have big appetite for South Indian food.

I used to go to this place very often and all of a sudden they increased the prices and quality of food has gone down remarkably. Butter chicken was so bland and tasteless and the naan bread was burnt. Never going to this place again.
Mystery Shopper
Used to be my local Indian , but after the last experience with the butter chicken being cold, I haven't been back. Disappointing. I now head to an outlet down the road.

We had a quick visit, but first impressions were very good. Polite and friendly front of house staff member, the restaurant looked clean, tidy and inviting. Atmosphere was lovely. We got the Chicken Vindaloo and Lemon rice which was delicious! We plan to go back and dine again. Pricing is good, cost us $20

Disaster on all fronts. Despite being short staffed and having a function upstairs, this would rate as the worst evening in many years of dining. Our booking for 7.30 was met with a glance around the restaurant and a "Hmmmm.....give me 5 minutes?" People finished eating so he finally sorted a table 15 minutes later. Unfortunately it was jammed between 2 tables and blocked the entry/exit. <br/><br/>Linen tablecloth was okay. Then we had the paper cloth arrive. BUT no cutlery, no water, no napkins. Menus were left on the bare table. We were asked if would like to order drinks. Done, good.<br/><br/>Ordered entrees. Some, but not all, arrived. We had to ask for cutlery. My cutlery was actually handed to me. I was happy that I enjoyed my deep fried mushrooms. Tasty and freshly cooked. Others had a variety of entree, WHEN they arrived.<br/><br/>Onto the mains... Lamb Rogan Josh may as well have been "Rubber Ball" Rogan Josh, such was the toughness of the meat. Chicken Vindaloo was met with no real complaints.<br/><br/>Garlic Prawns however, were dreadful. Luke warm, if not cool. Limp and lacklustre, I thought the prawns would have a nice crunch to them but who am I to judge. But at least we got our napkins. Was this an omen?<br/><br/>It was just one of those places that you KNEW was going to be a disaster from the moment you entered. Much more important to answer the phone than find your booking a table! We weren't offered water, drink service was terrible and the food was very ordinary. <br/><br/>Whilst the proprietor apologised for the service, no recompense was offered. <br/><br/>Just as well the company was fun, otherwise it would have been a walk out. Yes, that bad.

Shavans is a great indian joint located in Pinewood Shopping Centre. The manager and staff are very friendly. We came here on a Tuesday night around 9:30pm, which was pretty quiet, but soon realised that it was due to the restaurant closing at 10pm!

Really good Indian! Friendly staff, reasonable prices, comfy atmosphere, defiantly going back!

Spice up your life. Good indian food polite service

Good service, reasonable curry, moderate price.. This is a full service restaurant with pricing to match (main curry ~$20 + sides), so my expectations were higher than the mid-tier establishments. The service quality was prompt and professional. The meal quality was good only, the curry was tasty, but chicken was not tender. The quality of curry is comparable to well known take outs in Clayton, so a little disapointed. The Naan bread and sides were well cooked and reasonably priced. Drinks were also reasonably priced. Certainly not the best curry around, but one of the best choices to eat out in Pinewood.

Very good food and good customer service. Great ambience and the Sunday buffet is great value.

Served chicken in vegetarian curry. Food sent back. No apology for the mistake. Was very disappointed. Service was pretty average. But meat in veggie dish is a no no. Sorry never going back.

Shavan's restaurant in Mount Waverley - prices advertised on website misleading. Tried to book function room at Shavan's for Sunday buffet lunch for 50 people. Website gave couple of different prices - $19.90 and $24.90. No separate cost was mentioned for function room. During our conversations with the manager, the price kept changing, When we went tp finalise the booking, suddenly we were told the price was now $27. We decided not to go ahead - felt that website and direct dealings were not transparent

Nice local Indian place. Good food, decent price - plus they have a special where you get a certain amount off takeaway orders if you pay by cash.<br/>Not to mention, they have my favourite dish - Malai Kofta - which not many places have.<br/>I was very happy when this restaurant opened up, and we go there about once every couple of months, and have had a good experience every time.

We went for a Sunday buffet lunch. Ambiance was good & the service was quite good too. Except for a couple of dishes, most of the food items were yummy. Would love to go again & try ala carte next time .

Delicious!. I LOVE the food here! It is amazing. I have tried a few Indian Restaurants in the South-East suburbs and this has got to be my favourite! The staff are very friendly and eager to please. The prices are average. I would not say this is an expensive restaurant. Excellent value for money!

Enjoyable meal. I found this review site via Google as I was checking a credit card purchase I could not remember (hence I don't remember what we ate). I was surprised to see some negative/pricey reviews. The price of meals was fair, I have been to this restaurant several times and always thought the food was great, as well as the service.

Great dining and experience. We recently had my cousin's birthday celebrated in the function room and I can say, for sure, everyone had a fantastic time!<br/>A big thank you to each and every one of your staff, including Roy, Dharma and Sha for making our experience a memorable one!<br/>Great service combined with excellent food!! Would love to be back for more!
