Daniel Son is without doubt the best cafe in Murrumbeena. I have been meaning to post a review for a while. I went there for brunch with a few friends this morning and as usual, the food was delicious. I had the corn fritters with chilli con carne and added bacon. The chilli con carne has a bit of a kick but not too spicy for my palate. The bacon was a lovely addition. Although it was quite filling, I managed to devour it all. The coffee is also fantastic. They always provide really friendly service. Would highly recommend a visit!!

Came here with a friend to catch up for brunch on a Monday morning. It was a lovely atmosphere, sitting in the ray of the sunshine, warm and cosy and greeted by friendly staff.
I had the Egyptian eggs and enjoyed it. A great dish with a good balance of ingredients. Not too big and not too small.
My friend had the granola which looked great!
Coffee was pretty good, soy chai was pretty good to and overall we had a lovely meal.

Went here for brunch last week and was not disappointed. While the weather was cold and miserable outside, this lovely cafe provided a warm, comforting meal indoors. The servings were just the right size and the flavours were distinct enough to tell an ingredient was there but not overpowering or underwhelming. It all went together extremely well. Would definitely go back again. Think there were a few things on the menu that I'd like to try on my next visit.

We just enjoyed Motherās Day breakfast here. Lovely, friendly staff. Meals were fresh, delicious and perfectly portioned. Coffee was the best Iāve had in a long time. Gorgeous touch of pink flowers on the tables and balloons floating around for all the Mums. Well done
Daniel Son is a cute and rustic little cafe just behind the Hughesdale train station. It is not a big place, entering the cafe is like time travelling back to the 1970ās (although my timing might be slightly wrong given that I am still very young).
The menu is not very different from the other competing cafes around the area but it gives a honest and sincere feel with the food they serve. My husband and I ordered the French toast and special fish burger that day. Their portion control is perfect, leaving us just yearning for more but if the serving was any bigger we will be too full. While I was having my brunch, I was eyeing on the big breakfast served at the next table where the customer keeps exclaiming how good it was to his family. Daniel son is definitely worth going for the experience.

The Egyption Eggs are an excellent take - crusty toast smeared with creamy hummus topped with two of the best poached eggs. The mushrooms cut in, giving an earthy break.
The coffee is well balanced with bitterness and acidity, with strong aromas of a dark roast.
Daniel Son is a great cafe for the locals, and it shows - a lot of regulars come and go and have a good rapport with the staff.

This is really a little hidden gem in Murrumbeena. Came here for breakfast and had an amazing meal . I should not have been surprised as the place was literally packed with people waiting for a table . Our coffee came out promptly, allowing us to enjoy another one with our meals. My wife had the granola while I had the corn fritters . Great breaky , great coffee. Iām making this my once a week must . I only wish I was a local , it would be my coffee and cake slice grab and go every day .

Great brunch place, not too crowded with a fun happy atmosphere. Cheerful nice staff who were attentive. Good food that seemed carefully prepared and well balanced. The coffee and hot chocolate were also very creamy and delicious.

Serice is great and always friendly. Cakes are homemade by the owner's mum and the food is not pretentious nor fancy and straight up delicious.

The coffees came out quickly, but unfortunately mine was a little cold and the coffee isn't the mild smooth roast we like.. Quite a dark bitter roast.
The fritters were lovely and came with the largest serve of smoked salmon I've ever received from a cafe!
Execution wasn't perfect.. the poached eggs's whites were a little translucent but the yolk rich and creamy like that which is slow cooked on a mild heat.
All in all a nice cafe but probably not our favourite
Great price for what you get! 35 dollars for two people including coffee is outstanding in the cafe business. My eggs were sous-vide which was very different, and gave the yolk an excellent texture - this was my favourite part of my breakfast because it was a game changer and very contrasting to the usual poached eggs. Lovely Rosti (albeit on the sweeter side?) great attentive staff and quick service. Definitely recommend!
Such a great little neighbourhood cafe. Zero ego & attitude- just lovely staff, yummy simple honest food & great relaxed vibe. Ordered the chill con carne eggs and they were amazing! Super delish!! My husband also loved his meal. Great coffee, friendly quick service & very reasonably priced.
Our favourite place to go for brunch in Murrumbeena. Daniel Son never disappoints! We usually get the specials - the burgers are always delicious at an average price. Or the feta cheese and avocado on toast, which is simple but delicious! The portions may look smaller but the food is just so filled with flavours and texture, satisfying even the largest of appetites. The desserts are to die for! Definitely recommend the cheesecakes, they're our favourite.

Staff are extremely friendly always smiling and well able to interact with customers. I would score a 5 but sometimes they dont have their amazing cheese cake in stock. One of the best congrats guys.

Daniel Son is a nice little suburban cafe with all the things we demand in a good brunch spot: friendly staff, an interesting menu, charming decor... and of course good quality coffee and food. The Rambo burger is absolutely delicious. So too the breakfast option with eggs and mushroom (can't remember the name). Some of the food items were a bit strange and didn't quite work - especially the pulled pork sandwich which had the pulled pork compressed back up into rectangles that made it quite difficult to eat. But on the whole, a very positive experience.
Great coffee and service, we love coming in for a batch brew and being in a clam and cozy environment. Corn fritters are fantastic, recommend highly! Thanks guys for the hard work can't wait for next coffee
Tasty options in the brunch menu and great coffee in a friendly environment but I reckon that the coffee was better than the food. Not overly busy but a steady flow of customers especially for take away coffees.
Beautifully authentic and friendly service was definitely a highlight. Great coffee and selection on the menu, we had their vegetarian meatball sub / sandwich which was really tasty.
Great addition to my list of local bunch places. I have soft spots for corn fritters and croissants french toasts and this place has BOTH! It's as if the brunch gods have answered my prayers. The corn fritters with chilli con carne were greatly satisfying with fried eggs and avocado. I added bacon on the side because what is brunch without bacon. The french toast was deliciously light thanks to the lemon curd.

Had breakfast here on a Thursday morning. Not many people dining in but there was a line waiting for take away coffee. Staffs were extremely nice. Coffee was very well made and food was oh-so-good. I ordered the Egyptian Eggs Ā with grilled tomatoes and partner got the Omelette on the Special menu. Egyptian eggs dish was so delicious, toasts buttered heavily, eggs poached to perfection and flavours were well balanced. I've havent seen this dish been offered anywhere and it appears to me that they cook most of their components and not just heating up some store- bought food. Little bit on a pricy side but worth it, i enjoyed every single bites

While ordering 3 coffees the lady was in so much rush that she walked off without patiently getting the order right and she came back with only 2 coffees which was a little sour to me (ordered soy latte).

We wanted a quick lunch locally so settled on Daniel son.
I chose the Rambo burger, the soft shredded marinated lamb meat was delicious, in amongst the combination of cheese, pickles, onion rings and sauce. It was a delicious taste mix that I would love to eat again.
Super cute cafe right near murrembenna station. Got the corn fritters and replaced the smoke salmon with the mushrooms. The fritters didn't taste oily at all and the avocado was perfectly smooth and matches well with the sour cream. The beets also added a nice sweet change. They were really great with the mushroom change and even charged me less for it. Will return
Beautiful cafe! Upon entering you're welcomed by friendly staff and a visually pleasing display of sweet treats. We were seated immediately and ordered the corn fritters and lamb burger. Both were of great quality, and decent serving sizing. Prices here are a huge plus, at least $5 less per meal than I've come to expect at other places, but the quality here is better too! The corn fritters were some of the best I've ever had, and anything with Beetroot and avocado has won me over! Perhaps a bit of feta or goats cheese to balance out the flavours? Coffee was great too! I was very happy with my experience here, amazing staff, strong menu and delicious food!
It's a decent place to go for your brunch in the South East Suburbs.
Would recommend coming here for the Egyptian Eggs as it really if different from what is offered elsewhere.

Yay for long weekends!Ā Just this Labour Day past, the boy and I went down toĀ the kick ass south-east local, Daniel Son. Itās a stoneās throw away from Murumbeena station, which makes it the perfect spot for coffee en route to your dayās commute. It also means thereās plentiful parking at the train carpark on the weekend.
I would definitely revisit and make this one of my regular brunch locations. A nice little discovery a short drive away from Chadstone SC and right next to Hughesdale Train Station. Was pleasantly surprised with the courtyard which is great for bigger groups, provided that the weather is great!
Daniel Son seemed to be the busiest cafe in proximity of the train station, and it was evident why. Though we did have to wait a little longer for our dishes, great service and the delicious food made it worth the wait.
I ordered the Egyptian breakfast with hash brown and chorizo. It was filling and just the right amount of flavouring.
Favourite dish: The French Toast. We ordered this to share but if you are after something more sweet, this was really good!
Could have done without: Strawberry Milkshake. The chocolate one was okay, but we could have done without the milkshakes all together.
This place is great for a quick easy and simple bite to eat. The menu is fantastic with something for everyone and good value to (compared to some other cafes in the area). Would recommend the porridge and burger.
Daniel Son is one of the great cafes in Murrumbeena close to the railway station. The staffs are really accommodating and attentive. The food is good and value for the money. We try from the basic "scrambled on toast' ...perfect, the tuna sandwich...huge and delicious, The Breakfast burger...my favorite of the three. Great coffee makes a perfect brunch. Highly recommended.

I visited this place today after hearing great things about it.From the moment we walked in we were greetet by staff & seated. I ordered a latte & avo with fetta and hash brown. The other person I was with ordered eggs , bacon & some sides. Food was yummy & servings were decent. Attentive service that is consistent & great coffee.
Daniel Son is always doing a roaring trade. It's very popular with the locals. They don't have a huge menu but what they do they do extremely well. Beautiful food and coffee. They also do amazing slices and muffins, which are hard to resist.
It's a big surprise to find such fantastic food in such a small town. Perfect taste and presentation! Had a wonderful Tuesday morning there!

Had a pleasant first visit to this sweet little brunch spot yesterday. The place was pretty loud but was tolerable. I've been to a brunch cafe where it was deafening and it ruined the experience. I like my brunch places to be lively but not annoyingly noisy. One of the best things for brunch other than food is the company. And what's the point if we can't even hear the person from across the table!

The menu was small but decent variety of sweet and savoury options. Our party of 4 ordered Egyptian Eggs, Corn Fritters with bacon, French toast and the breakfast burger. The burger had 2 thumbs up for the boys. Eggs looked incredible on the plate and the corn fritters were tasty! I didn't get to try the French toast but the ones who did said it was quite rich and tasted a lot more like a dessert dish (I know this is a plus for many people) but no complaints.
Will be sure to come back to try other things it's great to know a good quality cafe like this exist outside of inner CBD and into the little 'burbs!
A thing to point out was that we had 4 different waitresses asking us if we were ready to order. All in the span of less than 10 minutes from when I sat down and said hi to my friends who were already there. I feel they were very eager to take our orders. Maybe they had too many people on that day? But it was a little too pestering in my opinion. A little tip is maybe to have each waiter to mind certain tables? Instead of having them double-triple-quadruple handling one table? Just a thought.

It's not everyday that you get to have perfectly cooked 63 degree eggs, now is it? And for breakfast? Um yum! The french toast also yum and I'm fussy about my French toast because I know how good it can be, and this was VERY GOOD.
The cappuccino could have done with more foam, but thats being fussy. The fritters were fluffly and delish, really aside from the above mentioned foam I couldn't fault anything. The service was really friendly and helpful too
These guys do 63 degree eggs. Perfectly. Enjoy that creamy texture with a variety of breakfast dishes, or choose French toast like my kid did (I tried a bit), or go for a special.

Despite being a Murrumbeena local I had never been to Daniel Son until this weekend. I've definitely been missing out! Such a lovely and relaxed little cafe with a small but delicious menu. I ordered the corn fritters with chilli con carne, cheese, 2 poached eggs, avocado and sour cream. I absolutely loved this unique breakfast dish - it tasted just like nachos! We also sampled the Rambo burger which also gets the thumbs up. Will certainly recommenced this cafe to friends.
Our local haunt in Murrumbeena.. Hubby loves the pancakes and I LOVE the slow poached eggs. Basically this restaurant has ruined poached eggs for me at any other restaurant šćThere's nothing bad to say about Daniel Son, except that it closes at 3 and sometimes I want a coffee there at 4! Staff, food, prices and ambience are all great.. Please don't change anything except introduce more yummy menu items!

The blend of homey elements such as the array of spicy sauces, the tin can cutlery holders and the milk bottle flower vases, juxtaposed against industrial elements such as metal chairs and exposed wiring made me feel like I was in a comfortable yet creative space.Ā

Probably the best brunch area within a five or six suburbs. We had the smoked salmon w/fritters and the BRAT fritters which were a special item. Both fresh and delicious. Wanted to try the pastries as they looked very food as well. The staff is very friendly amd warm. Definitely will be back.
From a take-away coffee, to breakfast, lunch or just a snack, Danielson always hits the mark. We got to Daniel son because it was mention in an article as top 10 places in Melbourne for breakfast. Foodies as we are, we had to try and got addicted. Every element on your plate was thought of and is perfect- from the crispy bacon to the home made hush brown, mushrooms, the cakes and baked cakes are always tempting.
Staff are friendly, polite and efficient. The best coffee in Murrumbeena, without doubt.

Located right in front of Murrumbeena train station, Daniel Son is a lovely place for breaky and lunch. The shop is bright with simple industrial style interior which I like. Their menu is not too complicate to make you feel confused. Most of items are from $10 to $13, specials dishes are from $14 to $16.5, which I think fairly cheaper than some other popular coffee shops in the neighbourhood. My husband wanted to order something from the photo on Zomato & the girl there was very helpful. We ordered an Egyptian eggs with extra chorizos & Special smoked salmon on omelette. The food came out in reasonable time. We love how they really put effort to decorate & put up such decent plates, some what better than a few other expensive places. In term of the food, although it didn't give us a "wow effect", it still tasted nice and we walked out feeling satisfied. Overall, we would give Daniel Son a 4/5 for their service & plating, & 3.5/5 for the food. Worths to visit if you are in the area.
Nicely decorated cafe with ample parking space at the adjacent train station. Food was okay - we had the French Toast, Early Mornin' Burger and Corn Fritters with Smoked Salmon. The flavours were there but were on the bland side of things when compared against other breakfast joints in Melbourne. Staff were friendly and helpful. Coffee was a miss however - lukewarm cappuccino that lacked flavour. Still a place worth trying if you're in the area.
Nice cafe in Murrumbeena away from all the others. I had the vegetarian meatball focaccia with tater tots and left full to the brim! Great sized serving of really tasty food.

Daniel Son is a cool local joint in the Murrumbeena area with a small breakfast/lunch menu. I tried the Middle Eastern Mallee Boy which was packed with flavour and the lamb was done well. IfĀ you also have a bit of a sweet tooth it's worth trying out their range of brownies, I highly recommend it.

Located pretty much next to the Hughesdale train station, youāll find a great little cafe with a catchy name, Daniel Son. First thing that comes to mind is the Karate Kid. There was nothing in the cafe that related to the show though, so perhaps the name is unrelated. I didnāt get a chance to ask what it referred to because the staff were pretty much run off their feet.
We went based on the write up in The Age and it did not disappoint! Had the Rambo burger and Inglorious Bastards sandwich. Both were fabulous and a generous amount of meat. Would return and order the same again! On a side note, I wouldn't classify the venue as kid friendly as they didn't have high chairs available.
One of our regular brunch place - 5 min from my house and a place that has yummy food without too long a wait everytime even on Saturday mornings.
They have amazing poached eggs (sous vide), the egg yolk is runny but it does not ooze out so you still get that nice texture and flavour without the egg yolk going everywhere.
Mushrooms on the Egyptian eggs are cooked perfectly.
They also have a variety of chilli sauces that you can add to the dish which gives that additional novelty.
Also tried other items on the menu and the sandwiches are pretty good too.
Good find in the suburbs! The portion sizes are a bit smaller than other cafes, but the prices are cheaper and you leave satisfied, instead of feeling full and heavy. If you're feeling a bit more peckish, adding extras will still make it an average priced brunch. Supreme coffee was also a plus. My corn fritters were a bit too deep fried but all the food looks very tasty!
Having run numerous cafes in the SE area, Todd turns his hand to the old cobbler & black magic shops in 'Beena. Hearty menu which does need vegan options though. All day breakfasts which are varied enough for you to treat them as brunch &/or lunch. Local artisan bread & the slow poached eggs of previous venues may intrigue some with a translucent egg white, being a vegan they're not my thing but the kids assure me they're great. Sumac spiced mushrooms my favourite side dish with the toast. Friendly chatty crew & place is always abuzz.
Daniel son is an unusually modern cafe for Murrembeena, but I really like the causal vibe which is spacious and has plenty of natural sun light. Food menu is basic, nothing particularly creative. Food was nice-ish

You don't know the meaning of "love" until you've been here! You can break up with someone here and they won't even be mad bc they're enjoying their food. The staff have the cutest smiles, the food is so warm and delicious till the end oh and the interior is adorable! If you don't go here, you should re-evaluate your life.

The folded eggs was amazing and so were the iced lattes!! Despite being swarmed with customers queuing for takeaway coffees, the manager was really patient teaching his new staff. Ok, this was my first cafƩ dining experience in 7 months (Thanks Coronavirus), and it was absolutely, 100% worth the walk for the Chilli Scramble and the Greek Lamb Salad. Absolutely go for the Iced Cold Brew Coffee too.
The staff are super friendly (and covidsafe!) and absolutely deserve your money. Give this place a little love, order a little extra, and keep them going.
