Really enjoyed our brunch at Citizen Cafe!
We had the breakfast tacos and poke bowl, after a few bites we knew we loved them.
I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast tacos, itโs got all the amazing flavours! The poke bowl was fresh and full of goodness!
They also have great juices and smoothies to complete your meal here!
Definitely will be coming back!
A great little cafe with a small but interesting menu, kind staff and an incredible range of baked goods and takeaway options.
At our servers' suggestion, I ordered the porridge with almond milk which was phenomenal! A large serve but I was able to get a takeaway container for what I couldn't finish.
Hubby got the Benedict and wolfed it down. We also got the cute little cake-pops which were a tasty bite.
Kudos to the owners, they've set up a great cafe and being one of our locals, we'll likely come back again.

I visited this cute little cafe last week and was treated with the perfect winter warmer brunch spread. The staff were amazing from the second we walked through the door. Very inviting & friendly. I ordered a delicious chai latte, with a creamy bowl of porridge. So warm and delicious (dairy free too) meant I could thoroughly enjoy my brunch without feeling off afterwards. Topped with fruits, rhubarb compote and chia seeds it was amazing! One of my favourite bowls of cafe ordered porridge ! Would have been even better with peanut butter (but minor details). We also ordered the open vegetarian sandwich with the pancakes ๐ฅ absolutely devine food, gorgeous interiors and wonderful staff! A cute little cafe for a Sunday brunch or mid week coffee catch up! Canโt wait to visit again!
DO: The eggs Benny and mushroom/chorizo on toast.
DON'T: Leave without any of the small batch baked goods. The almond croissant was the bee's knees.
TIP: Say hi to Jansen, Aaron and Zane when you're there. Expect great service with a smile.
Casual little cafe with friendly service and tasty menu. I went for the banana pancakes which came with fruit, mascarpone, tahini and maple syrup. The pancakes were crispy and not too sweet. Nice portion size too.

Brilliant Family owned and run Cafe in Murrumbeena ๐ I'm all for family businesses and I Love these guys! ๐๐ฝ So friendly and welcoming, and to top it off the food is exceptional! Some of the menu options have secret family recipes that are to die for ๐ let's get to the food shall we ๐
.
PANCAKES ARE EPIC! ๐ณ
.
I can't help but about how phenomenal the pancakes are! ๐ Buckwheat pancakes that are crisp and crunchy on the edges and fluffy heaven on the inside! ๐ The consistency reminds me of banana bread. It has a grainy wholemeal texture that had me cleaning up the plate in no time ๐ The texture is amazing! Throw that in with a gorgeous scoop of marscapone and caramelised banana and you've hit a slice of absolute contentment ๐ I wasn't however the biggest fan of the poke bowl ๐ there was definitely something missing in there.. There was a homemade sriracha sauce that it comes with which is legit PHENOMENAL! ๐ฑ But I think the addition of a Mayonaise based sauce as well would be ideal in bringing together all the ingredients and keeping the taste fresh ๐ the value for money is great! Generous servings of delicious food and a reasonable price ๐๐ฝthe pancakes are the reason for the arnie special of ILL BE BACK! ๐
.
๐ก TIP - GET THE PANCAKES! ๐ฅ don't even think twice about it lol

I had a lovely brunch here at Citizen cafe over the weekend, in the sunshine!
The owners have done an amazing job at renovating the milk bar into a beautiful, modern space. Their own handy work went into everything, including the tiling! I loved the mixture of blue hues, wood & greenery. The cafe was non-stop buzzing with people either grabbing coffees to go or stopping for a meal.
The coffee was lovely, but the smoothies were better!
Green smoothie: My friend loved her green smoothie she ordered.
Acai smoothie: It was a lot milkier than I'm used to, which I didn't mind at all! I still got a nice berry flavour in it.
The food was delicious!
Chilli scrambled eggs: The combination of chillis, bacon and asparagus was delicious! I really loved how the asparagus was sliced up thinly and folded through the eggs. The eggs themselves were very soft and fluffy
Banana pancakes: These were made out of buckwheat so they're gluten free! They turned out a lot crisper than a typical pancake, but I did enjoy the crunch!
Truffled mushrooms: Ordered by my friend but I stole a mushie and it tasted yummy!
The service was very friendly and welcoming

New kid on the block in Murrumbeena and not far from Chaddy, Citizen Cafe is really kicking some goals in the local cafe scene. The inside is clean and simple, white washed walls and lots of natural wood tones and greenery. They have some communal table out on the street with heaters and knee rugs to keep you snuggly in Winter while you sip and dine with your fur babies.
The menu is solid with a focus on good quality ingredients and a healthy vibe. Bunch is served until 2pm and lunch options are added from noon.
The brew of choice here is Padre and the coffee is expertly prepared, creamy and delicious.
We tried the Beauville Estate Benny with pulled pork, julienne apple and lemon pepper hollandaise. Good serving and great flavours - definitely recommended for the benedict lovers.
The Truffled Mushrooms were fabulous - beautifully presented and I loved the addition of asparagus upping my veggie count for the day.
We also shared the Banana pancakes which are made with buckwheat and tahini for a light, gluten free batter, and served with maple and mascarpone. The pancakes are a little crumbly so a bit hard to eat but good mixed with all the other elements to help them stick together.
Citizen is already embedding itself as an essential part of the local community - if youre in the area, do yourself a favour and drop by.
Thanks for having us team!
Got to try this new kid on the block that is just 10 minutes from Chadstone Shopping Centre. There are plenty of parking around which is always a bonus for me. We got:
- Truffled mushrooms
- GF quinoa pasta
- Banana pancakes
That mushrooms toast was nice and vibrant, great with extra cracked peppers on top. The GF quinoa pasta for me was the favourite, itโs light, simple and fresh, the evo really ties the dish together. And the pancakes that was made out of buckwheat surprisingly pretty good and light, a little bit crumbly compared to the normal hotcakes but healthier Iโm assuming.
Oh, and great blends too, coffee is really nice and smooth! Overall, highly recommended this cafe when youโre nearby.

๐: Looking for a peaceful, cozy cafe with great food? Citizen Cafe here might be the one for you.
Situated on Murrumbeena Rd, Citizen Cafe is a friendly and homely cafe furnished with warm wooden interior.
With tables outside for you to enjoy the natural breeze when itโs not too cold ๐ฅถ (but they do have comfy blankets available for you to wrap yourself around with), there are also tables inside the warm heated cafe both in the front area as well as in the next room towards the inner area of the cafe.
โค๏ธ: Looking at their menu selection, I couldnโt choose what to get since I knew everything would make such an awesome spread and sounded amazingly tasty. Well, I had to choose something (canโt eat everything on their menu, of course ๐).
We had the Banana Pancakes ๐๐ฅ with buckwheat, tahini, maple syrup ๐, mascarpone, and berries ๐. The texture was really interesting. Instead of the light fluffy ones you normally get, itโs more like a butter cake texture, in which I LOVE ๐. Makes you feel like youโre eating banana cake, but better. This order is a must here!
Next with the Truffled Mushrooms ๐. Oh god, the truffle aroma as itโs being prepared in the kitchen is so strong and pleasant it would make you salivate even before the actual dish reached the table.
Then we had the Poke Bowlโsomething light and healthy, perfect to eat with an indulgent dish like the Banana Pancakes ๐. Loved the confit salmon ๐, wish I couldโve asked for more.

Just 8 weeks young and already with a good local following Citizen Cafe brings welcoming vibe to the area and some great food and coffee to boot. We settled outside next to the gorgeous heater and patted the dog of one of the regulars while waiting for our coffees to arrive.
Padre beans were great as a latte and even better in the long black we sipped and read the menu deciding on our lunch items. We chose the aptly named Beauville Estate Salad and
Mumโs chicken curry.
Mums chicken curry was a mildly spiced curry with a great texture and depth of flavour, served with ย perfectly cooked brown rice.
The salad was lovely and fresh, awesome levels of crunch from the kale and radish, delicious nutty creaminess from the walnuts, pinenuts and pecorino. The squeeze of lemon tied all the flavours together, just delicious.
Definitely recommended. Thanks for having us in.
We had the pleasure of popping into newly opened Citizen cafe recently, and we were pleasantly surprised at how well the cafe is operating after only such a short time. It was a really cold, rainy day and we were fortunate enough to get a table indoors, but they do provide blankets at the outdoor table. It is a very small space, which is probably the only downside to the cafe. They have made it nice and cosy, but I just like a little more room usually.
The menu has a lot of delicious options and we chose the mushroom dish and the banana pancakes. The mushrooms were lovely and juicy, and the accompanying asparagus was nicely grilled and tender. The cherry tomatoes added some freshness, and the parmesan and dukkah added plenty of flavour.
The pancakes were generous and fluffy, just how pancakes should be. With grilled banana, fresh berries, ice cream and syrup, these were extremely comforting on such a cold day. I was a huge fan of these pancakes, and the banana flavour was outstanding.
We also had amazing coffees and an acai smoothie. The addition of milk into the smoothie wasn't something I had encountered before, and I'm not sure that I was a fan. It tasted more like a milkshake than a smoothie, so it was a bit hit and miss for me.
The staff were so lovely and accomodating even though it was extremely busy, and they still found time to have conversations with everyone. The place was full at 10am on a midweek morning which is a great sign for a new venue, and it is a lovely addition to the area. With yummy food and a cosy atmosphere, we are looking forward to returning on a sunny day to enjoy one of the outside tables.
We were invited to Citizen cafe today for brunch a buzzing little spot super close to my heartland chadstone. A modern, bright and airy cafe with very friendly service albeit a bit clumsy. Hubs got the chilli scramble swapping out the bacon for mushrooms. A generously portioned serve that didnโt skimp on the heat either.
I had the avocado dish which was a healthier reinvention of the typical smashed served with beans and broccoli. The health theme continued into the slightly less guilt inducing banana buckwheat pancakes. These were beautifully plated and really well balanced. The cake cabinet was absolutely packed with delectable looking treats but we were unfortunately far too full yet sorely tempted. A local gem
Located along a quiet strip of shops in Murumbeena, this recently opened cafe already appears to be very popular with the locals.
Visiting on a cold but sunny Sunday morning for brunch we were seated outside. I loved that each of the outdoor benches come with throws to keep warm, perfect for this time of year.
We ordered the Beauville Estate eggs benny, the truffle mushrooms and banana pancakes to share.
Each dish we ordered was beautifully presented and packed full of flavour.
The Truffled Mushrooms with asparagus, pecorino cheese, dukkah, cherry tomatoes, spinach and herbs on multigrain was a great healthy way to start the day.
Whilst if you feel like something a little bit more indulgent than the Beauville Estate Benny is the way to go. Served with pulled pork, julienne apple and lemon pepper hollandaise this dish was a cracker. Normally Iโm not keen on pulled pork but it was cooked beautifully and was nicely balanced with the apple and hollandaise. I would definitely order this dish again.
The gluten free banana pancakes were fluffy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside. This dish reminded me very much of toasted banana bread and was beautifully complemented with maple syrup, mascarpone and berries. It was a lovely way to finish a great brunch.
Overall we had a great experience at Citizen Cafe, we loved the warm hospitality and the great food. I give Citizen Cafe โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ out of 5 and highly recommend that you check it out. Thanks very much for having me.
I had such a lovely lunch at this cafe yesterday ๐๐ผ We were sitting outside and because it is Winter they had some blankets on the tables which I thought was really thoughtful of them!
We ordered the banana pancakes, salad and poke bowl- which all looked amazing.
The pancakes had such an amazing texture- soft and fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside ๐๐ผ it tasted so good with the marscapone cream too !
The poke bowl had a really delicious dressing and the confit salmon was cooked perfectly - it literally melted in my mouth.
The salad was also really refreshing and flavourful - I just wish the serving size was a bit bigger.
Also the Aรงai smoothie was really pretty- I think it would taste even better if there was more acai flavour instead of a milky flavour.

A new vibrant cafe in the heart of Murrumbeena with friendly service and tasty food.
I arrived at the cafe to be seated with water and was asked if I wanted a drink immediately. Thatโs always my first check of service which I very much appreciate. I ordered a Kombucha. They had a good array of flavours.
They have a small menu but thatโs not a bad thing, with a new cafe you donโt want to over complicate. I think once they grow in confidence and are open longer a broader menu would be beneficial but for now they have all the classics and few unique dishes to! They have a brunch menu which goes till 2pm and a more lunch style menu which is served from 12pm onwards.
I ordered the truffled mushrooms with two poached eggs. The mushrooms were seasoned very well, not too oily either. It came with asparagus, spinach and tomatoes which really lightened up the dish and added a fresh element to it. My poached eggs were PERFECT. Extra point for great poschies.
The service was great, the guys running the place seemed super chill and the cafe itself has a very relaxed vibe. The food was great. Canโt wait to see this place flourish on the Melbourne brunch scene.

Loving this new cafe in the Murrumbeena area! Vibes and decor are super cool, and then menu has so many great veggie options. The coffee house blend was tasty!
We tried the TRUFFLE MUSHROOMS and the QUINOA PASTA ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ Both beautifully, presented, fresh and tasty!! Healthy and satisfying.
The family team are very accomodating and will make you feel at home. Def worth a visit!!
Just next to Duncan McKinnon so was a treat stop after a good walk. Just grabbed a TA coffee which was hot and sweet. Menu looks good and seemed to be getting the usual โjust openedโ crowd. Will return with company for a bite when I have the time but as a quick grab n go coffee venue - parking out the front is good and access seems to be easy. Barista was friendly but coffees were made quickly which most appreciate.
Only just recently opened and already busy & has a following with the locals . We had the Beauville Estate Benny (pulled pork) and the GF Banana Pancakes (buckwheat), the pancakes especially were divine , that I went back again the next day! i would say this could be the signature dish & only $16! Great coffee (Padre) & presentable, tasty food enjoyed in a light n bright ambience &fit out , in keeping with the character of the building. Highly recommended.
