They now have some lunch specials which make it more affordable. I will come here more often. The teppanyaki is top notch! From salmon to beef to chicken, everything is yummm.
Where to start? I love this place! I love the ambiance, I love their thick chair, I love their service, but more importantly I love their food! Japanese food served fresh and tasty! Their salmon aburi is perhaps the best sushi I tasted! Though come at $8.40 for 2 small pieces, it was amazing! Ordered the pork belly for main, it was delicious, soft juicy meat with crunchy skin all blended in nicely with its sauce!
Downside is the price : yes it is a bit expensive :( especially you are located next to the more affordable ohnamiya! Thank God you have the lunch deal, if not I may never come back again. Also, you gotta make the “dont bring outside drinks in” rules clear please. You guys disallow my wife bringing in utopia, but then few minutes later a couple came in with 2 cups of utopia and you guys let them in! Unfair! Haha..
Food was really good, ordered uber eats on a Saturday night, edamame, gyoza, prawn tempura and rice but felt the price was expensive all this came to $45.15 for one!
Delishious Japanese. Ordered via Uber eats on Monday when many other places were closed. We ordered 5 items from menu and every single one was delish!
The only one disappointment is too much plastic dishes, but this is the issue of many asian take away /delivery.
Food is glorious. Service varies. Food can also be ordered from UberEats and delivered to your door. Be warned alacarte is a bit pricey. The Teppanyaki is absolutely amazing ! Great show and excellent price compared to other places in Perth
We had teppanyaki the other night. Love the entertainment of the chef. We had seafood and steak. All are cooked to perfection. But the rice was too dry to be friend on the hot plate I think. Feels like burnt at the bottom of rice cooker.
Another ala carte I've ordered for the sake of my toddler is the teriyaki tofu, I have to wash it down with the soup before giving it to my son. It's way too salty and sweet.
Love the green tea soft serve.

Cant comment on ala carte menu. But had tepinyaki for dinnwr on a wednesday $39 and lunch for $19. The quality and quantity of the food was superb. The show the chefs put on funny
Décor – Nothing to fancy or gimmicky about this place, tables are well spaced and the tepinyaki bars are off to one side.
Service – Quick and friendly, they were accommodating with us as I am vegetarian and my friend a celiac and altered the tepinyaki set to suit are meal requirements.
Food – I enjoyed their miso soup and mushroom/mixed vegetables. Everything was cooked well, my friend/boyfriend enjoyed their meat which was cooked well and to their request. Overall no complaints it was a little dear but was a good experience.
Love Nishi. Staff are fantastic and the food is delicious. Our favourite place for a family dinner. You know yiu are onto a winner when your 7 year old wants to go.
My husband had the teriyaki tofu main and I had the tempura udon and we shared california roll sushi.
The sushi was overpriced but did taste really good.
Teriyaki tofu was not bad. My udon soup was really tastey but I found the tempura was too salty.
what annoyed me most was the $2 surcharge just to pay for a meal which was $50. That was absolutely ridiculous. Wont be back for a while just for that.
Went here for a midweek dinner and it was wonderful. Had the miso pork belly and edamame for entree. Service very quick. Hubby had the sashimi which was very fresh and I had the dragon roll sushi. A little on the expensive side but very yummy food. Also had the green tea with taiyaki which was yummy. Very friendly staff and no wait for seating.
Have gone for both teppanyaki, in which the chef was friendly, entertaining, and obviously very skilled at his job. The teppanyaki is very popular and you must get in early. I have also visited on a second occasion and tried the ala carte menu which I found to be nice but nothing overwhelming. Since the update to the decor, the venue atmosphere has changed for the better.
Came for dinner tonight, shared a large salmon sashimi, my partner had a chicken sushi roll and I had a California roll. It was all fantastic, really fresh and tasty. Good service, staff just seem to get a little mixed up sometimes.

Went on a recent Friday night for a Works do. Fairly dodgy group ;) of around 20 for Teppanyaki. The staff were very friendly & helpful, making us all feel comfortable.
Teppanyaki is as much about the "Theatre" as the meal, both were excellent. Prawns & steak were done to perfection, as were all other embellishments. Great choice "Ducky" & S. Recommended.
We have been going to Nishi for years and have seen consistent improvements over that time. The restaurant has recently added teppanyaki to its offer and it has really improved the feel of the place. We ordered the set menu for the adults which was perfectly sized and tasted good. For the kids we ordered one main and three individual bowls of rice. Would definitely recommend Nishi for a slightly more upmarket Japanese meal.
Sensational dining experience. Have been here twice in the last 3 days after discovering this hidden gem!! Have had items off the menu 1st time and tepanyaki for dinner 2nd time. Food is unbeatable, staff are so happy and welcoming and the $11.50 cocktails are a treat. What an awesome dining experience - we will definitely be back!! Ate the beef bulgogi with rice and miso soup when I went to Nishi. Which isn't a Japanese dish, was Korean rather. It was still nice though and had a good balance of salty and sweet.

Resl Janpanese. I have lived in Japan for years and been to many Japanese reastaunts around the world. I have to say this is the reastaunt I cannot image I could find in Perth. As in my mind, it is so hard to find the real janpanese flavour in Perth.
I had Tanppanyaki with 3 other friends last Friday. It is very warm and confortable to sit around the Tanppan table enjoying the nice food and show. We had 59 dollars set,when I thought we will end up being half full after the dinner, like most of my Japanese food experience, we cannot hardly have all of the food at the end. I am not saying they are not delicious they are too much. I recommend you save some space for your belly before you go!
I can see the owner's to the detail spirit in this dining experience. From the saucer, little flowers.
Food is always the most important part. They provide the fresh and tasty ingredients. You can easily tell the good quality of sashimi and sushi. Awesome!

Great Teppanyaki. We have been here a few times, last night we had Teppanyaki. What a treat. The Chef was polite & funny.
He showed his brilliant skills while creating our delicious meal. It was fresh, tasty & cooked as requested.
Our friends hadn't had Japanese before, now it will be a new favourite. Great night was had by all.

Cheap and cheerful. The Hulme Crt, Myaree precinct is a boon for hungry patrons. With a predominant Asian selection... competition is bound to be tough. But today my vote for a quick and easy and cost effective lunch is Nishi. At $9.50 for a Katsu Chicken -with rice and salad, it edges out Sundays in the quality and quantity stakes. The chicken is succulent, the sauce that comes separately has a nice tang to it. Portion of rice is normal and has a light sprinkling of sesame seeds. After the 3rd try I can say they are achieving consistency. My only conundrum is what to order when next I'm there!
Me and my friend went thisp lace for dinner and we were so surprised that sashimi is very fresh and also it was affordable. I strongly recommend agedashi tofu and pancake as entrée . Korean pancake was so crispy and crunchy. Tofu tasted fresh inside and crispy outside even better with sauce. Overall staffs were so friendly and I would definitely come back again next time to try the teppanyaki.

Normally we head next door to Ohnamiya but decided to try something else for a change. The tepanyaki chef is an amazing salesman (and character) so we found ourselves pulled up to the hot plate.
Not disappointed at all - plenty of fun at the table and the food was very good.

Go for Tepanyaki - absolutely worth it. I was a bit scared of going here as this restaurant was poorly reviewed on UrbanSpoon... I am so glad I ended up booking. I booked the tepanyaki for 8 on my birthday... and it was exactly what I wanted. A very very entertaining chef who had only been there for a few days (ask for Neil!). He put on a great show (catching the food in our mouth, catching our "flying fried rice" etc.), had us in absolute stitches and we left with sore cheeks from laughing and full bellies from the delicious food.
And he left me such a lovely msg on the hotplate at the end of our meal - drawn upsidedown with a shaker of salt.
For $49 there's nothing out there remotely close to value for money. The Prawns, scallops, beef and chicken were of top quality and cooked to perfection and served in such grand fashion. We all agreed that we will go again.
He catered for 2x Gluten free and 1x Vegetarian - $49 for beef/chicken and $69 for scallops/prawns/beef
We have been going to Nishi for over 5 years and we have had multiple experiences at this Resteraunt. The first 2 years we loved it food service was great , the next two years we rarely went because it went seriously downhill but lately they have refurbished the resteraunt and reinvigorated the menu. There is new chefs, new staff and we LOVE it! The Teppanyaki is a MUST DO! At only $50 for the A. Teppanyaki menu (which is more than sufficient food) it is a very good value night out. Chef Henry is a Teppanyaki trained Korean chef who is charismatic and talented we thouroughly enjoyed it and will make it a frequent family event in the future. Their a la carte menu is great too , very good miso soup and the salmon nigiri is deliciously simple with quality ingredients. BYO which is a bonus as well although they so also serve a variety of quality beverages.

Get together with friends. Last Saturday, i went there with few friends. we ordered some sushi rolls...it was ok for me, my friends didn't like it tho! The waiting staff was very friendly to explain the dishes for me. I really appreciated that. Overall, i reckon they still need to improve the quality of foods, but the staffs did a great services.
Change a lot and getting better. Just have a good lunch in Nishi. Great Value, Excellent food and the owner is very friendly. I think they are getting better. Give it a try!
Quality Service/Food. I visited this Restaurant on 18 July 2013 with my colleagues. I noticed that the Restaurant was newly renovated and the staff members were well trained in serving customers. Since I tried tempura udon and sushi previously, which were profoundly tasty and fresh, we had a B course of Teppanyaki at this time. The manager of the Restaurant was very thoughtful. When I told them that one of our colleagues was a vegetarian, I was amazed at their flexible serving attitude as they promptly prepared a substitute food for the vegetarian although the B course did not include such food. The vegetarian enjoyed the food as much as we did.
The quality of food is also remarkable; especially the Teppanyaki beef was excellently tender and tasty. The chef was a good entertainer for all of us. The service and manner of the Restaurant must be ranked as one of tops.

Visited Nishi last night. Found the tempenyaki tasty, interesting & fun. The food was fresh, although a bit pricey. However, it was worth it, as the quality of the food was good & the staff friendly.

Great Value, better now. We've been going to Nishi for many years and always really enjoyed it, but since the makeover in Jan this year its just so much better. The ambiance is great, the owners & staff are really nice, and the food is consistently great quality and excellent value.
Looks great post-renovation!. Ate here last night after they re-opened Wednesday night. The restaurant and Teppanyaki stations look fantastic, but haven't had a look at the teppanyaki set menus yet.
I had the Tori Karage set, including rice, miso, orange slices, pickles, salad and the fried chicken with mayo. It was delicious and fresh, but maybe a little overpriced at $21.50, although it's hard to compare prices with the nearby Ohnamiya, which doesn't provide table service. My boyfriend was very happy with the Katsu Scallops entree and Tempura set he had. I tried a few pieces of the vegetable tempura, which were very good.
Overall, it's a lovely restaurant to visit, with good food, friendly table service and great setting (thanks to the reno). This is the second time we've visited and we will probably be returning.
It is a little bit overpriced, the portion is not enough for me honestly ! And the lunch time here is kinda ghost restaurant ! Nobody's here except us ! And most important , it's a Japanese restaurant , but all the staff here are from Korea and China ! Shame !!!!

We love it!. Im really surprized to see that this place has not got the best reviews - everytime we have been its been great - infact the last 2 times the quality of the sashimi and the preperation/presentation was even better! we generaly have the bento box which includes sashimi, rice, salad, miso and your choice of hot meal (ie terriyaki chicken ect) and its great! it is what it is - a basic little venue serving good honest authentic food that is in no way overpriced! I do agree with the service being a bit lack luster on previous visits however, the last time the waitress was just lovely!
Yummy, casual dining. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our meals tonight, which was our first visit to Nishi. The cold soba set was refreshing, the tempura tasty and the teppanyaki prawns nicely cooked. Nice, casual dining at an affordable price. We'll be back.
This is a great little restaurant. Not sure where the other reviewers have been but I have always found the food here excellent. Sure the service is patchy or bad but the food has always been great. Everything fresh and tasty. My three kids love it too. I know the competition on this row is pretty fierce, not sure if some espionage is going down?? The only thing that annoys me is the 3% surcharge on credit cards, in a restaurant???

I love this place, it's our regular Wednesday night date. The bulgogi is amazing! As is the vege tempura and chicken karagge. The staff are lovely, and fir around $50 for an entrée, main and drink for 2, it's such a bargain!

Having not been to Nishi for about two years, the boy and I decided to hop in one day to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised to see a teppanyaki table, new decor and chairs. The place looks decidedly grand. We were seated and handed menus, and it slightly bittersweet to see that the menus are still the same. On one hand, we know what we would order, on the other, maybe they could have changed it up to include new items. Either way, we weren't fussed. We ordered a Chirashi Don and a Sashimi Don, and goodness, it was fresh and delicious. They were generous (at $27 and $28 each, they would have to be) and I enjoyed everything on my tray, including the salad. The boy and I still reminisce about the delicious sashimi that we had that day, so we will definitely be back, but maybe for a special occasion. N

Went there last night with my partner.
Great fun experience and was entertaining we had Set C teppanyaki which was definitely worth the money as the protein portions were decent. The Fried rice however was a bit crunchy as the chef left it on the grill too long without stirring it.
But it was a great overall experience and I was happy that they managed to adjust my partners prawn allergy.
Nice Japanese food. Famous for their teppanyaki meal. All the food that I ordered is good except the Wagyu beef which is too expensive for the quantity given. The sashimi was fresh and delicious.
