You’ll wait for a table but the wait is worth it! Fabulous Malaysian and Indian food! It’s not the kind of place to sit and chat with friends but they do takeaway ever so well so take it home to enjoy at your leisure. They pump a lot of food out of a tiny kitchen to the hordes of multinational loyal customers. Spice express lives up to its name. Do yourself a favour and try it!
Best lamb or chicken briyani in town. Laksa is so good too :)
Best tosai and Indian Rojak in Perth 🤩
I went to Spice express for lunch with my mother. The food tasted authentic; very nice and tasty. But there’s not enough room for seating. So we ended up sharing tables with other people.
Came here cause I was craving mee rebus and was in the vicinity. Authentic tasting but if only portion sizes were larger considering the dish cost $10. Food was served in less than 5 minutes
A little taste of authentic Malaysian food. Here’s a list you should try 1. Mee Rebus 2. Nasi Lemak and 3. Tosai (which are only available during the weekends). Be there early or be prepared to wait awhile to eat some amazing food!
This place serves authentic Singaporean/Malaysian breakfast fare and it is pretty much just as good as the food you can get back there. The nasi lemak has the BEST sambal in Perth! It is well balanced, sweet, salty and spicy. This is heads and shoulders above any nasi lemak you can get in the vicinity (the sambals for most places are always too salty). They even serve mee soto and mee rebus which are hard to find anywhere else in perth. The Indian menu is also fantastic and in my opinion healthier (not as oil drenched as the ones you get back home) without compromising on the spices and flavour. 4.0 stars do not do this humble establishment any justice. The only negative is that they don't open for dinner and close on Mondays and Tuesdays!!!!!
This is not a fancy place and you have to be prepared to wait for a table on weekends but the food is good, authentic and reasonably priced. My favorite here is their nasi lemak with a fried chicken wing. The briyani, teh tarik and sardine puff are nice too. Plus, the service is always friendly and courteous even at the busiest times.
After hearing about this place from an acquaintance, decided to give this a visit. You must be prepared to queue as the place is rather Small.
The place sells Indian and Malay inspired food. Overall the food is pretty authentic . Not many places provide sides when you order Briyani. It’s definitely one of its hottest seller. The only slight problem is they won’t have much variety for kids so they ended up eating Soto ayam which is a basically chicken noodle soup.
On hindsight that was a good choice as my daughters woofed it all down. They had the fried potato patty in the Soto which reminded of my childhood in Singapore eating similar dish .
Nasi lemak was a pretty standard fare, it did not actually wow me . Nice sambal.
All in all - if you intend to go and line up , try something different you never tried . Give these a try - dosai, appum, mee rebus .
2 words: Fried chicken. Ok 2 more words: Roti canai. Ok 2 more... Dammit everything I've had here has exceeded expectations, and going by previous reviews here, those expectations were set very high.
Roti with lamb curry. To die for. Samosas are incrediblely flaky, buttery, delicious morsels of pure indulgence. I'm very passionate about the food here haha. And to top it all off, the service is fast and incredibly friendly and outgoing.
Very limited seating so you may have to wait during peak times, but it is well worth it!
I dropped into this place just because I was in the area. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. I food I ordered was brought out to me fast and was fresh. Tasted good
Food standard is always on point at spice express, good customer service and proper Malaysian dishes. Always a treat when we visit this place.
Love all the authenticity and flavours in each dish. It's about 25 for 2 of us each time we visit. Just enough an Asian stomach although portion can be considered small for their price. I hate it when they burn incense in there especially when it already a stuffy a in there.
Restaurant get filled up as soon as the door open though.
Soto ayam
Briyani
Lotong
And teh terik
Is a must try
This place never fails to disappoint. It feels like I'm back in Malaysia all over again!! This place is full of mamak food and it's absolutely delicious!
Highly recommend the Indian rojak and nasi lemak.

Delicious authentic Indian food. This place is small and you will likely line up and even share the table with another couple or family. Embrace it, it's part of the appeal.
My favourite is Mee laksa. Cheap meal for Sunday lunch that satisfies my taste buds. The portion is moderate compared with other shops. The soup is awesomely rich in flavor, little bit spicy but thats something I am looking for.
Best vegetarian breakfast! Love the coffee. Have had egg dosa , appam , onion dosa! They have excellent taste. One of the good restaurant for indians longing for good food!
After a crazy day of running around for Boxing Day bargains and furniture shopping, my partner and I were super hungry and needed to refuel. We were in the Myaree area, so we decided to stop by Spice Express which is next to Sundays Everyday. The shop is really small and they were super busy. We took this as a good sign that the food must be worth checking out. My partner had eaten here once before with his friend and said it was nice. He also said that they apparently had roti on the weekends but we couldn’t see it on the menu. Although I eat a lot of Asian food, I have never really tried Indian Malaysian food before and was staring at what other people were ordering (maybe staring a little too hard? Sorry for being a creep!) to see what I wanted.
Delicious treats - we had the laksa, vada and dosa. Portions are modest (but cheap) which means you can order even more stuff! I'm sick of weak watered down laksas - this one was full of prawny flavour, with just the right amount of spice. Seating can be communal and you might need to wait for a table.
There's no place like Spice Express. It is a nice and simple restaurant that exude the feel of Singapore/Malaysia with their food. My personal favourite is the soto ayam with rice noodle and bergedil. It never fails to satisfy my hunger and cravings for Malaysian food. The potato curry puffs and vadai are lovely treats as sides. The meal is well rounded with a coffee or teh tarik. Although there is a slight waiting time for tables (2 pax is normally easier to get tables), you can make use of that time take to choose your meal and to whet your appetite, because the food is totally worth waiting for!
It's pretty good laksa!! Better than I expected :) the soup was tasty and $10 is a good price :) teh talik is good too. Reminded me of Malaysia :)
Great little Malaysian Indian cafe style restaurant with incredibly consistent food. Been coming here for dosa/masala dosa, mee rebus and indian rojak. There's a lot more on the menu but my usual are the ones mentioned. Masala dosa is always freshly cooked (crispy on the outside with well balanced tasty potato filling on the inside). The nasi lemak is also consistently good too. Been coming here for over 2 years and the quality has not changed a bit. Due to the size of the cafe, there's a staff member who looks after the customers and is efficient at what he does hence there is no long wait times (at most 10 mins). Customer service is top notch..very friendly and inviting. Managed really well despite the size of the cafe and large volume of customers. As a Malaysian living in Perth for over 16 years now, I would highly recommend this place for anyone after an authentic Malaysian meal.
Had the vegetarian briyani.. so fragant and delicious -- reasonably priced. A bit out of the way for me but worth it when in the area. Very busy and crowded on a Sunday late morning. Would recommend!!
In an urgent rush to find some Indian/Malay cuisine in our local area, we stumbled across Spice express and were intrigued with the reviews and the photos. We ordered the Lamb Biriyani and Teh Tarek and it did not disappoint. This is by far the most authentic we have experienced in Perth and we look forward to returning to try out other items on their menu. The reason for the 4 rating is based solely on the fact that we have only tried one dish. We have already told our families about it and will certainly be back very soon to review again!
Have been coming here for ages on the weekend. Authentic flavours and very friendly staff (they know us now because we go so often). Must try mee soto (a good winter dish), nasi lemak, rojak, and masala dosai. The briyani is also really good. Very reasonably priced. Even when it is busy you don't have to wait too long, and you can also order takeaway.
We were Just tried Mee Siam yesterday, it was really good. But just a small bowl can't make us full. $10 for a small bowl of noodles, a bit high pricing.
Beautiful food. Love the lamb curries, vegetable curry etc. Authentic Malaysian cuisine. My favorite place for lunch. Service is good though hard to find a seat at times.
Our usual weekend brunch. The nasi lemak and Briyani rice are my favourite. Authentic taste and reasonable pricing. The milk tea is really good too.

Love the nasi lemak, one of the best in Perth i reckon. The teh tarik is super nice too! Oh! The curry puffs, both potato and sardines are amazing! I can see why a lot of Malaysians go there. The staff are very nice and friendly too. The place is really small, so get ready to queue up during weekends!
Love this place! Food is consistently good and very delicious. My number one choice for my singaporean breakfast fix in perth.
Nasi lemak plus chicken wing and the soto ayam are my favourite dishes. The thosai is also a solid choice, but some waiting is required.
I would recommend getting in early, as the shop fills up quickly on weekends.
The food here is exceptionally good from a Malaysian perspective!
Dosai: Had the masala dosai and it was amazing. The price is very reasonable and the portion is adequate. The taste of the food feels like home and probably the best in Perth.
Soto Ayam: The taste of the soup brings back memories from Sarawak and Sabah. There is a lot of noodles and they're not stingy on the meat.
Lamb Biryani: I have had this meal over 10 times now and the taste since the first time I came in 2014 is still the same. I can't even think to compare this biryani to any made in Malaysia or Singapore. It's that good!
Overall: It's a small cosy and homely feeling place. You may have to wait a while for a table, but it's worth the wait. The staff are very friendly and I hope this family business continues for many years to come...
I love the mee Siam. It's different from the Singapore version, which from September visit was a darker gravy and very tangy. The one from Spice Express has a clear and creamy gravy and comes with prawns. The sardine puffs, thosai and appam are all very delicious. The teh tarik enhances the experience. Superb food at reasonable prices.
Another Saturday, another opportunity to eat out! This time it was to try Spice Express in Myaree, a restaurant I've walked past many times before to reach Sundays Everyday, but never thought of trying because I thought they were exclusively vegetarian and I'm too much of a carnivore for that. Ok, so in my relationship with Mr. T, I'm usually very assertive in regards to where we eat. This is because everytime we discuss eating out, he always allows me to decide. He's one of those people that goes to the same restaurant over and over again, he knows what he likes and sticks to it. I'm the exact opposite and will complain if we go to the same places too many times, so I think he's given up and just lets me choose where we eat (sorry Mr. T)! However, he was the one to introduce me to Spice Express.
Good flavours and good value. Nasi lemak was quite good. The briyani is deceiving as they give you a curry rather than an actual briyani. The dosa are not very big nor crispy.
One of the best Nasi Lemak in Perth in my opinion, chicken wings are also a favourite. One of my local places to hit up when around the area, doesn't disappoint. They also do a decent Roti on Friday nights 👌
For entree Mr. T ordered for us the chicken wings and sardine curry puff. They were both so tasty. The chicken wings was crispy but juicy at the same time. It is reminiscent of the Inchi Kabin chicken at Ipoh, a lot of asian herbs and spices. It was so aromatic and delicious. The sardine curry puff was my favourite. The skin was crispy, although a bit more oily than I would like, I could hardly taste the sardine as the curry flavour was strong. They both made for a great start to our meal.
Amazing food!!!. Absolutely amazing,on of the best Malaysian restaurant in perth.Highly recommended
Fine little gem. Great place, cheap and tasty food. Friendly & caring staff. The dosas are a must and so is the biriyani.
Nasi lemak!. Tiny shop but you can see that this place is very popular as it is absolutely packed everytime we are in the area!
The nasi lemak is definitely worth trying! Love the sambal.
I wasn't sold on the briyani but that might just be my personal taste.
Amazing, not to be missed. Spice express is an incredibly energetic, aromatic wonderland from lovers of malay/indian and singas style hawker foods,
the dishes are top notch and the prices are very reasonable. the old bloke who runs the place is a funny bugger too.
We stumbled upon this place by accident but so glad we did. Our new fav Sunday lunch place. Will def be back for more every week. So happy we found authentic malaysian food at a reasonable price and good portion sizes. Very happy :)
Delicious!. Such good food! The nasi lemak here is delicious especially the sambal it comes with! Staff are friendly, will be returning often!
Always a safe bet!! I think one of the best places to get Malaysian style breakfast ...
Becoming a regular. Spice Express is actually something of a rarity in Perth, a Malaysian place with more of a focus on the more Indian cuisine. I usually get the chicken biryani, which is quite nice, love the rice and the chicken is decent although could be a bit more flavoured. The dosais are always crisp - but never enough, lol, love the condiments that come with them. Curry puffs are good too. Not particularly cheap, but if you want something pretty authentic then try it!
Consistently good lamb briani. I am a regular customer of the lamb briani + egg plant, which is consistently good (other than a tough batch now and then). Teh tarek is also pretty good and better than most places I have been to so far. Can be a bit crowded but can be avoided if you dont go on weekends or peak hours. Owners and staff friendly and accomodating.
Nasi Lemak. Nothing to shout about. I've had better ones. Staffs are friendly thought. Owner keeps complaining about the weather here and wants to go back to Singapore.
Very good Indian Muslim cuisine. Awesome food with good service. Their hawker experience in Singapore clearly shows. A place highly recommended if you want to get a quick fix for delicious Indian Muslim food.
Awesome authenthic malaysian food. Mee siam and nasi lemak very good. Closest thing to malaysia i have found in perth
Cheap and cheerful. I'm here often to get my thosai and appam fix. Lovely crispy thosais that are good value. The place is usually packed during lunch time on the weekend and it's tiny but the turnover is pretty quick. The vadais are excellent too. Pooris are usually not fried enough and I'd skip the nasi lemak which isn't the best. But everything else is pretty good.
Nasi lemak and fried chicken , my favorite...
Was very impressed with the seafood mee hoon, absolutely beautiful!!!
Great genuine Indian food, great value
Great Indian Malaysian. Thosai was very tasty and perfect balance of spice. Biriyani lamb was perfect. It is plastic tables, good value with friendly service. Chilli sauce tasty but spicy. Recommend it.
Some of the best south Indian/malaysian food in Perth! Incredible!! Great dosa! Great biryani, love it! Only downside is the lack of space, on weekends it can be hard to get a table. And there are no baby seats .
Great place!. If you crave for some of the usual offerings at a Malaysian Indian eatery-this is the place to go to! Great food, good service at a fantastic price. it's so good that I would drive 30 min from mine to just have brunch/lunch there. Must tries: thosai, curry puffs, poori, nasi lemak, appum, briyani & teh tarik.
4.8 rating
I've had breakfast here a thousand times and this place is amAzing!
This time , my review is about their catering service. It was Excellent service from start to finish, available at short notice.
All the yummy food was packed really well and efficiently. Car took crazy turns and food was intact. Rice and other hot items were in microwaveable tubs. Tosais was packed with a sheet in between so they didn't stick together (I was most worried about the tosai's welfare and this method was really epic).
Everything was labelled and neat.
We ordered nasi lemak, vadai, chicken wings, curry puff, mee hoon , biryani, lamb curry, chicken curry and tosai. Everything is good as always. Thank you!
DECENT FOOD WITH FRIENDLY SERVICE. As business owners at adjacent premises, my husband & I are regular patrons to this establishment. Due to limited lunch time that we have, we mainly order the food and have them delivered to our office.
We have been their regular customer since the first day they opened. At that time the menu was quite limited. However, they serve a quite authentic Singaporean/Indian type of hawkers food (this is due to the fact that the owner's mum has been in the hawkers business in Singapore for quite long time). They serve both ready-to-eat meals where you can choose a combination dishes of meats and vegetables with either basmati or coconut-flavoured rice as well as a la carte menu.
Our favourite dishes are soto ayam, nasi lemak & tahu goreng. The serving is quite generous. The quality of the food seems to be fairly constant although we'd prefer stronger coconut flavour/smell on the rice.
Overall, the service has always been attentive and friendly. The food quality is decent and acceptable for this kind of establishment. For those who complained about this place, this is not a fine dining restaurant.
We would definitely recommend this place to those looking for Singaporean/Indian hawkers food in south of the river. We hope they will come up with more a la carte menu so that more varieties to choose from.
Take away Thosai(?) and Rojak and some other dishes. Very tasty and delicious Indian food. It can be a tad expensive, but it's worth the try. It's a shame they do not serve or cook the Indian Sweets or desserts. They will be a great addition to the menus after having some spiciness.
Highly recommended****Authentic and outstanding Indian food.. Indian/Singaporean owners providing a cross section of South Indian/Singaporean food.
I have little knowledge of the Asian cuisine on offer, however, the South Indian food is as good as it gets.
The food is 100% authentic, freshly prepared, perfectly spiced and served with traditional side dishes of vegetable, poppadum and dal.
The surroundings are sparsely decorated, white walls, formica tables, clean floors. The service is polite and the waiting staff are happy to explain the dishes to you.
This is undoubtedly the best Indian food I have tasted in Perth.
Try it, you will not be disappointed.
Amazing food. Definitely v authentic Singaporean food. Just hope with time they don't turn into most restaurants n stinge on ingredients and such that ruin the rich flavours they currently have in their food!! Highly recommended!!!
So after the disaster in Bateman yesterday, I thought I had better revert to a known quantity and went to Spice Express for brekkie with mum. Mate, those Paal Appams are as good as, if not better, than Anandabhavans in Singapore. Go check it out and see for yourself. Oh and don't forget the Teh Tarek...very nice...
Went there on a recommendation from a friend. the food is pretty good. authentic straits/singaporean indian food. the rojak was crispy and just the right amount of spice with a nice dipping sauce. Nasi Lemak was pretty good too. the chicken briyani was only so-so, I've had better elsewhere. overall I'm impressed and will definitely eat there again
Spice Express is a small, unassuming cafe selling largely Malaysian/Singaporean food. It focuses on 'mom's cooking', with cuisine that could only be cooked by mothers and grandmothers, or the cooks at home with years of love put into their dishes. Everything in Spice Express tastes home cooked, achieved over hours of preparation and mulling around giant pots in a kitchen.
I have to say we were more than pleasantly satisfied and satiated. Spice Express is a little take away place with some basic chairs and tables, where customers are likely to share a table. To be honest I’m not overly fussed on the aesthetics or decor of a place, as long as the food is authentic and has the perfect aroma then I’m happy and so are my taste buds.
The best nasi lemak in town!
Their sambal is super delicious. Everytime I have their nasi lemak, I mix the sambal and the rice together. It’s soooo good!
Their soto, mee rebus, rojak are all perfect!
Love their fried chicken and vadai too. Always packed with customers. Sometimes you have to share table with others as well. Not a problem for me though😆
And did I mention its a halal restaurant? ☺️
Nice food , and friendly service . There is a crowd on weekends but people move through quite quickly . (Malaysian-Indian food).
Very delicious and authentic Indian Malaysian cuisine!
Spice Express provides an authentic Malaysian-indian food experience. This places serves up breakfast and lunch staples that are guaranteed to bring your taste buds to Malaysia/Singapore, even if you can't physically get there. The prices aren't cheap but everything on the menu is quality. Don't expect extravagant serving sizes, the food comes in serving sizes similar to those in Malaysia/Singapore.
Gets really busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings and once you taste a couple items on their diverse menu, it's not hard to understand why it's so popular.
Awesome food with reasonable price. A favourite for cravers of an authentic malaysian cuisine. Capacity for seating is small but jiffy service for take away.food can be ordered in advance. Friendly service. Menu is online...a definite place to return for meals

The foods was delicious. It's feels like you're in Mamak restaurant in Malaysia. 😋
Fantastic Malaysian/Indian dishes. The Indian Rojak is really good! Great friendly service as well. Always busy early on weekends. A must try cafe if you haven’t already.

Very yummy food and friendly staff.
I had a vegetarian briyani and a vadai, it was delicious. I never had a savoury donut before, it was the first but not the last!
Also check their breakfast menu on the weekend, they do Uttapam, indian pancakes, I can't wait to try them!
Better to order in advance as it gets quite busy.
Also you might struggle to find a parking spot during peak hours.
