Review Yummy Bbq - Myaree

Jarrod hazell
Nice food and good service. Was rather pricy compared to some other chinese places. Though I suggest you avoid the special fried rice.
Barrie Turnbull
The food is fresh & a higher standard than most Chinese restaurants in the area,. The staff are efficient, The atmosphere is dull
Melvin Koh
It's authentic and the fried rice noodles have that wok hei zhi char taste. Very homecooked. It's clean with toilets and even child seats. Friendly staff. The dim sums are slightly pricy but home made. They even remade the xiao long baos because the skin broke for us.

Surprised to find some nice Chinese food in Fremantle. The dishes are quite well done and flavourful Pretty close to what we have back home
Zoey Gracie
Beautiful space, friendly service, fresh & tasty food. The best Chinese I have had in a long time!
Sharon Krisanovski
I have been a customer here for a couple of years now, the food is good and the service at the premesis has been good up to today. I ordered a gluten free item through Uber eats and I received something that was not gluten free. I called just to make sure I could reorder to make sure I receive a gluten free item, but the lady became very defensive, said I was wrong and was really rude to me. The conversation sadly escalated making me feel really bad. I'm sad to say I will not come back to the cafe' even if my previous experiences have been positive.

Lovely place. The tea was great and the char siu bao were straight up delicious, the best I’ve had in Perth to date. Definitely need to return to try some of the other dishes.
Josephine Clarke
Delicious flavours. The food here is all so fresh it feels virtuous to eat it. Can't name a favourite dish because it is all so tasty, meltingly tender and varied. It's noisy but great value. A local gem.
Leshaye Wellstead
Had takeaway from here, the dishes were of generous servings and very tasty. We ordered the special FR, Seafood and Vegetables, Garlic Chicken and Prawn Dumplings. Best Chinese we've had since moving to SOR.
Annie
Lovely welcoming place to have a good meal 😊

Service wasn't the best but was reasonable for me. Hence not 5 star rating. Then again you are in a restaraunt to eat food and not to make friends with the staff right? Dim sum is actually not too bad especially the fried squid. As long as the food stays good I will be returning
MissA
Best fried squid!! Full of flavour and texture. Siew mai is big and plump worth mentioning as well.Lets be honest now, you don’t go to a Chinese restaurant for the atmosphere you GO FOR THE FOOD!!! That’s what is most important to me :)

I came , I saw , I ate and I left . We decided to try a new dim sum, thinking how expensive this can be . I was wrong , if they were trying to imitate a high end dim sum place they certainly did . Not with their food but with their price . Most items were only so so . But the price was anything but that.

Please don’t try the porridge . It took ages to come and it tasted , looked and smelt funny . No one could eat it we took a small bite and that was it .

Suggest to skip this and go to TAO next door
Adrianpaulhan
The dim sum was super expensive paid $81 for 2 adult 3 kids and realize the average price was $7 . At that price I would have expected better food . Seriously with the other dim sum places like canton lane at Belmont and 8 on the point dim sum at riverside charging the same price . Give this place a miss . The 2 best premium dim sum places are charging this .

Overall food - The pork bun was dry inside . This is probably bought not made . The siew mai and har cow was so so only not fresh made . The porridge smell funny . It had stuff in there I could not recognize . I ate 2 bites and left the whole bowl . None of my family could eat it .

Suggestion - drive past don’t stop

Lousy tasting dim sum and same price as if it were from a good restaurant. The owners were not very friendly and the deco is dingy and bathrooms are dank and dirty with exposed pipes, cracked plaster and no toilet paper. I remember this place being much better a few years back.
Brkfastlover
We felt like having Chinese and it did the trick. Not the best we've had but far from the worst. It cost us $50 for two, which is about average nowadays. Would go back again if we were in the area.
Jen
Ordered half a roast duck for take away and to find mainly boney bits with no thigh and about six pieces of neck is just unacceptable. Don't waste your money or order takeaway from there!

This place has been a staple of ours for years now. It's all pretty standard suburban dim sum. The Chilli oil is the best in Perth though, the fried dumplings also right amongst the best. The owners are pretty cranky but that's more humorous than unpleasant.

wth is up with all the negative reviews. I don't know why so many people hate this place? We are regulars here and my fam/friends love it. We like the food and it's so much easier than going out to the city for the exact same thing. I'm just here to eat - People keep going on about the grumpy owners but we are not trying to date them...so really no big deal to us!!? With good company this place is - Convenient - local - and has good food -

Dim sum was good. Favourites were prawn dumplings, roast pork and the fried prawn with mayo. Went on the weekend and the new waitstaff there were very friendly.

This place has become a joke.
Used to come here a lot for Sunday dim sum over 7 years ago as the food was alright and it was convenient. Came here a month ago and ordered 2 serves of prawn dumplings - $10.60, went back this week and ordered the same thing - $11.80??? One of my friends from Hong Kong went in the same day to test the theory that they overcharge people and guess what... 2 serves of prawn dumplings cost him $9.60.... all the past reviews on here talk about over charging by the guy at the till and you can't tell because it's all in Chinese. Looks to be true!
To top it off, I asked if I they had chili oil... "$2 extra" This used to be a large communal bowl they would provide and you'd be lucky to use even a teaspoon over the whole meal as it was that hot. Now they are charging for it? What a joke.
The service here is shocking, particularly from the owners, so rude to their staff and customers and are always sitting down waiting for someone else to do the job when there a customers waiting to be served.

If this and all the other reviews still haven't put you off and you end up eating here, ask for a dim sum price menu and keep track of what you order!

The food isn't bad but the old bloke at register is a thief. He'll try and tack at least $2 on your bill every time. We've been making him re-count it for years. Shame as everything else is fine.
James Anthony
I would have to say this is one of the worse Chinese food places in Perth. If the staff smiled their faces would crack. The pork dim sum came straight from the freezer pack that you can buy anywhere in Perth, but these ones where tasteless. We had "Honey Chicken" - I am still trying to find any chicken. Other dishes where just average.
Best thing was the water.
J Smith
Dropped by for dim sum. I've been here a few times sporadically. It's not amazing but it's decent with some notable menu items. The Shanghai dumplings are beautiful, the soup inside is delicious. Buns are good, siomai ok, Chinese greens are crunchy, egg tarts are so so (too eggy rather than custards for my liking), my sis likes the chicken feet. Service can be quite bad, it can be hard to get service or if you go late there is barely anyone there to get any service anyway. Decor is fairly basic suburban spot.

We regularly go out for dim sum aka yum cha and this place is close enough to home so we tend to visit here more than the city based places. Food always yummo - regularly orders include prawn steamed and fried dumplings together with salt n pepper squid tentacles and love the crispy pork in a sweet sauce. As we are regulars we are used to the service and a few great wait staff who greet us with a smile. The owner has his days. I have noticed that if you get there by 12pm you will quickly get a spot however the food seems to have been cooked a little earlier to be ready for the lunch rush so is not as hot as food coming out at the 1pm mark. Worth going a little later and waiting in line which actually moves pretty quickly. No frills restaurant but food delicious. Just keep an eye on your bill as the owner adds up so fast and more than once the bill has been more than I calculated. But don't dare question as you could get your head bitten off.

Food was average, owner is grumpy, service was ok just cannot stand owner,no smile no greeting and when saying "thank you" to him you got no respond,no wonder why the place was quiet.not going back for sure.

Haven't been here for a while, decided to give this place another go. The dumplings and roast pork was delicious. Shared the fried noodles between two of us which was actually quite nice. Thumbs up, would go again, also free parking was a plus.
Truong Thi Ngoc Han
This is the worst restaurant that I've ever eaten in Perth. The service was so bad and the food was not good. There was only our table even at dinner time on Friday. I wondered why it was so quiet and then i got the answered. I ordered special fried rice but the rice was undercooked. I complained, the staff took that dish away and brought back with the same dish just one Difference: More oily. So yuck! And the other dishes were all salty. After paying when we on the way went out, the staff looked at us with unfriendly eyes. Overall I will never ever come back again@

This has to be the worst Chinese I've had ever had and I've had salmonella from Chinese before, ordered Mongolian lamb I got Mongolian fat no meat no flavor and special fried rice which was been sprouts with a little rice terrible food

I paid with a $50 note,Warning!!!!😡😡
Just ordered take away from YUMMY BBQ Melville. DELIVERED and paid there bill with a$50 note.
Then I got the phone call from them that my note was counterfeit.
Surprise as I get that out of the hole on the wall at Commonwealth bank.
So.., asked them to bring the note back. When the arrived the note was a scrunched paper note. Defiantly not what I gave them.
Told them to get in touch with the police. Hopefully that's the end of the matter.
how many people are getting caught with this.
Be careful guys, not happy.
Ben Goodman
really good dumplings, some of the best BBQ pork around which i wish came in a much larger serve) gotta go early for lunch because towards the tale end the service is non existent. The watermelon juice is too good
Pennae
Great BBQ pork for takeaway, dining in very much your typical suburban Chinese restaurant. No frills, decent food, pleasant service. Prices are average for Perth.
Monmon
Has been here so many times and i feel the service has been improved. It was soo bad before. rude owners and employees. But today they weren't that bad. The food was okay.. Went there when they just opened so all the food was freshly cooked.
Kenlow
Been there a few times with the family for dim sum. Food pretty average service was below average. Better ones around. Only go there out of convenience.
OnePointFive
Have been craving for chicken feet for a couple of few weeks, finally got to eat it yesterday. Yummy BBQ dont have the best reputation, but they do good chicken feet. Actually other dishes were fine too, they just don't have a lot of varieties compared to others in Northbridge area.
Perth Culinary
why this restaurant is still open for business has always puzzled me. In my opinion this is the worst chinese restaurant ever!. Microwaved food, overpriced, too oily, rude staff, too much MSG...all the worst combination you can find in a restaurant are there.
Rebekah
Absolutely disgusting!
The servings are tiny, prices are over priced, and the guy that I'm thinking owns the place stares at you while you eat! It's uncomfortable and ridiculous!
Without a doubt every time we decide to go there, their prices have increased dramatically! And the cleanliness of this restaurant is disgusting. Not coming here ever again!
Cassie
The dim sum here isn't the best, however the dinner menu is good authentic Cantonese cooking and their dishes are tasty.
B_stephen
Terrible!. Went and got take away lunch here today, the place itself was dirty. The food was gross and poorly made and the service was below average.
Wouldn't recommend it at all.
Tingtong626
Owner is very rude. Went to pay bill and he told me how much i was to pay, i couldnt hear him so i asked him nicely to repeat then he yelled the amount again at me.

Always empty now - i can definitely see why.

I can't tell if you've given up or just don't care

Used to be an ok spot for local dimsum and chinese bbq / roast meats but has just gone done hill over the last years

Real down hill

Waitress is rude, Gilbert doesn't seem to care food is just generally slapped together.

Sub pAr

Don't know what all these bad reviews are about. One of the best dim sum we have ever had. Plus the fact we could still choose dim sum at dinner. Amazing.
Will be coming back for sure.
Vigilante3
I used to come here often and enjoyed the food.
How times have changed!
After entering an almost empty restaurant I had to wait almost 5 minutes before being given a table.
The same miserable looking owners are still there, but the food has really gone downhill. And the sad thing is they don't seem to care.
I had (amongst other things) steamed Spare Ribs Dim Sum. This turned out to be literally nothing more than lumps of grizzly fat. I know it's a fatty dish, but this was really 100% fat and grizzle. When I pointed this out to them I just got an indifferent shrug. Later, since there was no way that I was going to eat it, I asked them to remove it from my table. When I paid the bill I pointed out to them that I hadn't taken this dish and they begrudgingly said I wouldn't be charged for it, but when I looked at my receipt I saw I had still been charged for it. No need for me to complain to them yet a third time, they can keep my money and their nuggets of steamed fat , but I will never eat there ever again. No wonder the place is nearly always empty nowadays compared to previously.
Robinyourmail
Grumpy service. I would have enjoyed the food if the service was better. trust me, I have given this place a fair chance but each time I eat there, the one waitress is always grumpy and rude. She has such a dark aura and constant PMS. The old man at the counter is grumpy as well and has no manners. Actually both of them lack manners and it is very off putting! I will not eat there again.
Kick_ass84
Horrible service. I would never want to dine at this place. I work around the corner and occasionally order a lunch special, and that's it.

They are the most miserable pair, I have ever met.. They need a lesson on how to smile. The food is ok. But Geez they are rude.

Anyone want to make money, open up another Chinese restaurant nearby, you would destroy their business.
Lone Ranger
Crap service. I will not be returning to this place for sure. They carried a tray around of two dishes round the whole restaurant of 12 tables and when it came to my table it was cold as there was no cover on it. The waitress rudely argued with me that it is not cold, that it just came out, then she walked off. Next she came with a tray of vegetables and other dishes with gravy and glared at me and I said no thanks that I waiting for dim sum dishes and she stated boldly, everything here are dim sum dishes. The third time she came round she asked if I would like what was on her tray... Egg tarts and round red bean and lotus sesame balls as well as triangular curry puffs. I said no thanks I just arrived and still waiting for the other dishes and not ready for desserts ... I was told s these are not desserts, they are savoury!!! She then shook her head and walked off. I had ordered my tea n chive dumpling so I stayed and ate those otherwise I would have walked out. When I finished I went next door for japanese, way better than this place. Another thing I noted the waitress and waiter both smiled and was rather polite to Caucasian Aussies but when one was Asian, they were either rude and abrupt or ignored you. Guess they see Caucasians as ones who will spend money as they don't know the diff between good and bad dim sum whereas why spend time in Asians when they will know food is not worth the money!

By the way, tea was good, and that was about all! The one dish I had, the white steamed skin was gooey and fluffy though prawn and chives were good.

If you are reading this, try another restaurant, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

By the way I too met GRUNPY GILBERT!!! And I question the good reviews on here... Probably mates of the restaurant!!!

Fast, excellent food and service, cheap.. Take no notice of any poor reviews - this place is fantastic. My wife and I like it, all my friends like it - we invite them to join us at Yummy BBQ once, and they eat there ever after. I don't know where the nay-sayers are, but I've never seen them.
Andrew.c95
Terrible service, food and pricing. CHECK YOUR BILL.. Not a great place to have dim sum. check the bill for dim sum especially.. there may be some discrepencies.
Killing228
Yummy BBQ my ass. Went there for lunch. Ordered Roast Pork rice with Duck. It came with only 4 pieces of Roast Pork and 4 Small pieces of Duck. My friend order just Roast Pork and it came with 11 pieces. When I asked the manager about it, she gave the dumbest excuse saying that it takes more effort to cut more pieces. To top it all off, Lunch Special costing $13.80? Special Rip Off

Good food...pathetic service!
Greeted by Grumpy Gilbert the owner. We have been going there since 18 years now and they have not upped their service/hospitality/smiles in all this time! Watch out for your bills ESP with dimsum lunches......always a discrepancy. Take away meals have more onions in the box than fillet beef....last straw. Won't be going there again!!

Yucky BBQ - don't do it. This is the worst place I've ever been to. If you enjoy grissly dumplings that look like bulls testicles, spring rolls soaking in a bowl of oil, ribs that look like mummified fingers, disgraceful service, white plates with yellow tinges and dirty tables and dirty water bottles, then this is is place for you. It's actually funny how bad this place is - well worth the $62 bill. The best thing about it was leaving. Feeling sick thinking about it. Just don't do it - I know it's hard avoiding it's amazing appeal from the road (not) but just drive on by
Blondefoot
Dinner AND a show!. Due to it's convenient location I often find myself with the family at Yummy BBQ (or Yucky BBQ as I call it). Whilst in the past I have been on the receiving end of the owners lack of "customer service" (I queried a 2.5% credit card surcharge and was shouted at) today was particularly bad...
We walked into a one sided shouting match between the owner and a customer with her child on her hip. She warned us (as we too were with small children) that the seafood was raw. As we have dined there before it didn't surprise us so sat down. Really we were only there as I couldn't be bothered driving to Northbridge and we know it's pretty average to start with any way.
The owner kept shouting "I apologise 4 times, what you want me to do, apologise 6 times?" The customer was very quiet but STILL he kept shouting. Perhaps he thought he would get our sympathy, perhaps he was trying to prove a point. All I could think was I hope we don't have an issue with our food and can leave without copping a load of abuse. In front of the kids.
As usual the waitress was surly (it's not fine dining, hell I even enjoy seeing how cranky they can be sometimes) the food as average as we expected, the toilets still unclean, the water bottles dirty. Whatevs, makes us feel like we are traveling through Asia! But only a car ride away, whippee!
But when the owner started wiping tables and sneezed, TWICE, on TWO different tables I looked down at our own table covered in our average food, that the kids had eaten off and our funny coloured water bottle and it all became crystal clear. This. Place. SUCKS. I looked at my husband and said "please. Just never again".
We paid our $69 bill (wtf no roast meats, no veggies, and two small kids, 1 & 3, so it's not like 4 of us deafening the food) and felt sure the sour taste in our mouths this time as we left could be attributed to more than just the MSG laced, average dumplings.
Just. Don't. Do. It.
(Unless you purposefully want a laugh - query the credit card surcharge when you leave, it's honestly hilarious the response you will get!)

I ordered the four season fish and cannot believe how delicious and well presented it was. I felt very welcomed when I walked into the door. I also highly recommend the stuffed prawns and the roast BBQ pork. Best Chinese I've had in a long time.
Andy.lauw33
Terrible service. We went to yummy bbq this afternoon with the kids - which turned out to be a big mistake.
Food was expensive, quality barely eatable and the service really really bad.
We asked for a teaspoons for the kids and we were given a large spoon. When we asked the second time, we were given those ceramic soup spoon. Ended up getting it ourselves.
We then ordered a bbq pork bun, and it was put on the table right up to our 2 yr old face, exposing her face with the hot steam. We complained to the waitress (who doesnt smile), and her response was 'Oh, the table is small and I have to put it there', and continued on saying, 'oh, its not hot'. Like hell it wasn't, our toddler's face was red from the steam! No apologies, and she just walked away as if nothing happened. Never again will we go there! Anyone thinking of eating there, go ahead if you want the worst dining experience ever. Owner, go and train your waitress, yeah, she's the only one who doesnt wear yellow apron and doesnt have a smile. Better still, do us all a favour and just close down.
Fremantleflats
Food is OK!. CHECK YOUR BILL! They make a lot of mistakes. Been there many times for Dim Sum/Yum Cha and the bill has never added up correctly! The mistakes have never been in our favour! CHECK YOUR BILL!

Just had my lunch in this restaurant. The staffs were really had bad service. Really bad food as well. The two meat rice combination OMG, the rice was hard like uncooked, the meat not taste proper as welll. Really dissapointed. Waste my money. The dimsum very speechless. Will not go back to this restaurant.

Mr Happy. The Owner has never been happy for the 30 years i have been ti his restaurants around the place but the Yum Cha is good so if you can ignore him and his unhappy staff go for Tum Cha
Sfifred
What a rude manager. Went here for lunch. How rude is the manager! WOW. Had to specifically ask for the lunch menu. Food was ordinary. Charged me a dollar extra for some cut chilli and soy sauce. Plate of noodle, can of Coke and the Chilli - all up $17.80. An to top it off the food was very ordinary. Better noodle for $7.50 at a foodhall.

Would never recommend this place.

Rude Service!! Not Worth visiting!. This restaurant has been around for many years. it used to be quite decent.
used to have pretty good dim sum. used to be happy to visit them every now and then. but lately the quality of the dimsum is running down the slope. The restaurant hasnt been maintained properly, you can get given bowls, plates or spoons ( ceramics made) that has chips on it. Plastic rice bucket that has melts due to heat around the outside etc.

about 3 weeks ago, i came to the restaurant, trying to purchase some bbq pork for home take away. was served by the asian uncle guy ( i would asume the owner), hes always there. he was telling me i cant buy it by weight. he will only let me buy it per slab? i can understand if the bbq pork slabs are small. these are quite big one.
i dont understand, as they sell these meats by weight. but dont wanna sell them by weight ?. i also tried to get roast pork. he also told me in a very rude manner that i need to buy per slab.
by this time, im really unhappy. i decided to just buy the bbq pork. after this he still ask me, if i want him to cut the bbq pork into small pieces? ( what??!??) lol.

told him to cut it. he said " ok, just wait few minutes". he was on the counter, playing around with his phone.... for 5 minutes. i was wondering whats going on. i just realised that he dint want to get his hands dirty. he was waiting for another lady to come out from the kitchen to cut them.

i would say, this is a very rude, poor service. food quality doesnt lift them up as well... not worthed...
Happiatti
Very bad service. The most horrible dining experience I have had in a very long time. The service and attitude of all service personnel was very rude mostly so the man who greedily took the money. I will not be going back EVER!!!
Hunt4more
Good and bad. Super fast service. Some staff great. Certain other staff do not smile ever. Dim sum delicious. Very expensive
Extreme Diner
What a disgrace!!! On 23 January, we had one guest coming to our house for dinner so I order half a roast duck (un- chopped) for take-away. Upon unwrapping only did we discover the thigh portion was removed. Very cheeky yes but also dishonest the way they go about doing business. DISGUSTING!!!!
Irwan Budiarto
Worst chinese rest ever!! No manners, extremely rude, no respect to customer! Bought BBQ pork and request to be cutted a bit thinner rather than chunky piece. The owner said "cant do it, do you want me chop my finger? Its not possible, if you want, do it your self!!" He said more than 3 times in hard tone. This is second time have worst service in 2 times visit. Unbelieveable!
Cherubztrove
Terrible service and food... Totally not worth the money!. We had lunch at Yummy BBQ yesterday, and after having been promptly seated, the service ended there. We tried to get the staff members' attention, and despite having 4 of them face our way, none of them came forward to attend to our needs. My husband had to call out twice to another staff member who passed by our table.
Food standard has deteriorated. Most dishes were deep-fried and extremely oily when bitten into. They tended to push their fried foods rather than the steamed ones. Also, there wasn't much variety in their dishes. The same dishes kept circulating the restaurant.
At the end of the day, we only ordered 8 dishes (plus one canned drink and two teas) and our bill came to $64! The previous week, we were at a new dim sum restaurant in the Riverton area, ordered 18 dishes and our bill was just under $90.
Definitely not going back to Yummy BBQ!
Brian Mangan
Utterly disgusted with the quality and services in this place.. Worse food in Perth, stick with Mai Thai on canning highway it's top class. Tip to Yummy BBQ manners don't cost anything
Mark
Nice Yum Cha. Ordered a few different Yum Cha dishes all fresh reasonably Priced, Although service could be better and waiters happier. Food served quickly.

Cheers
Mark
Foodie_jess
DODGY ICE COLD ROAST DUCK. Soo disappointing. Gave them few chances. each time i order roast duck, it's either cold or tasted not fresh. how can you have ducks hanging at the front of shop which have a chopping facility but customer not given what is displayed but they chop in the back of kitchen which is cold? had roast duck in ny, london and hk. this by far worst experience. suspect food not fresh and they try to get rid of old stocks. i actually went back to shop and asked them only be told all ducks are cold. owners even made nasty remarks.
so close to my house but will travel further to avoid unscrupulous shop owners. kardinya tavern is way better for honest and hot food. not trying to disguise and fleece customers. be warned!
Mimi
Terrible service here. The food was below than average.
However check the Chinese tea pot inside, it's black & disgusting I guess they never washed before.
Terrible terrible disgusting!!!
Never comeback here again.
Missy Kay
Never returning to this place again. Food was foul, waitress was so so rude. And to top it off was overcharged! This place should be shut down permanantly.
Perth Bars
Great dim sum lunch! Love the prawn dumplings
Chrystal De Rozario
My whole family used to come here all the time... But not anymore same food at a higher price rude service...

Worst food at yummy BBQ in Melville. We needed a local takeaway, so decided to try yummy BBQ ,
firstly we were told 15 mins pick up but when we arrived they told us to go home as not ready, we should have known then not to return !!
we were so disappointed when we got the meal home , for starters the duck which was priced at $55 on the menu but they charged $58 .
It was vile two tubs of coloured water and large amount of bone floating in it with a little spring onion and green Veg ,a tray with cold duck skin on prawn crackers with duck bone wings with no meat . There were pancakes, cucumber also god knows what for !! .it also came with lettuce leaves and the smallest pieces of duck in a sauce which was ok.
Would give 0/10
Then we had beef curry which was bland and cold also .we had to laugh because there was more meat in the special fried rice than the duck lol.
Will not return there as I worked the price out at $87 hubby came back and told me they charge $ 93 biggest rip off I've ever had . BE WARNED!!
Nor72ton
Been there twice recently should have learnt from the first visit not to return, overcharged and the female manager needs to take some lessons in how to deal politely with the public and her staff, very arrogant and aggressive, obviously showing very frustrating sighns that she requires a good.... husband
Guzzlor
Roast pork is OK but all the bird I've had here is totally flavourless. Duck, soya chicken, Hainan chicken, they all taste like the rice it's served with. Actually, in the case of the Hainanese chicken rice the rice had more flavour than the poultry. Which is some kind of skill.
Paxpax
Wanschers. We said last time was the last. Well this definately is. Prices are through the roof!!
Kai Lan $1 a large bunch... served here a small plate $7.50!!! What!!! The owner also has the cheek to charge 2.5% on credit cards... a chinese bushranger.

-----10 Mar, 2013-----

The truth. Yup You have been warned... visited this place because it was close and guess what we were over charged. The way the owner's fingers flit over the calculator has to be seen to be believed!!!! We found out he charges $1.30
per person for Chinese tea even though we had children at the table who don't drink the stuff!!! Caught him out big time there. I don't think we will go back.

-----26 Feb, 2013-----

Ripped off???. Next time ( if there is one) I'll be definately checking my bill. Funnily we often say afterwards 'that seemed dear for what we ate.' The speed they use to calculate on that adding machine is worrying. You have been warned owners.
James Shin
Oh dear.. It_was_terrible.
The service here is just indescribable.. in a bad way.
It took them 40 minutes to get to our table and take our order despite telling them we are ready to order several times. It looked like there was only 1 woman who was able to take order and she wasn't busy or anything. She just had no interested to attend our table.
Eventually, she came and took our orders and then the waiting game went on further. I have never seen a chinese food take that long to make.. The restaurant wasn't even half filled and to take that long, I just cannot understand it.
And food was average. For food to taste average when our stomachs were in a state of eating themselves, that means it was poor.

__Will Not Go Here Every Again__

WARNING! Please read before considering to enter!. This is by far the worst YamCha/Dim Sum restaurant i've ever experienced! Lets start with the food... Absolutely atrocious! The Shanghai dumplings tasted like they were 2 years old. Tasted a bit off and was very dry. The egg bun in which the yolk inside that should have been still runny and silky was all dried up and just an embarrassment to the dish. Glutenous rice was a joke with a few grains of beef in it. We ordered about 7 dishes. It was hideously disappointing to put it kindly. 1 out of the 3 serving us was friendly. The skinny lady at the counter was rude, obnoxious, grumpy and to top the experience off, she over charged by a long shot! For 2 people; 7 dishes and calculating from the menu checklist usually left on the table, the bill should have come to about $47.00 but at the counter it came out to about $64.00. After all that i thought; just to be civilised, i respectfully said good bye only to receive a rude silent facial expression. Not only will this experience spoil your afternoon, but could mostly likely make you sick and put you off dim sum for a long long time. Shut this restaurant down or get some decent owners! We made a mistake by not reading the reviews. Please don't make the same mistake...Go somewhere else for a much better experience with fresh, tasty dishes at honest prices.

Read the bad reviews and decided to give it a go anyway. For a Sunday, 11am- service was quick, food always kept coming around and when you asked for something e.g egg tarts, BBQ pork buns etc it actually arrived- fast. No complaints re food. Looking forward to trying the Peking duck next. BBQ pork pastry, siew Mai, har kow and fried stuff were tasty. Will go there again!

Great food, poor service. Ordered some yum cha with a friend-the fried squid tentacles and pork buns were exceptional. In terms of service the food came out relatively quickly though not all at once. The people serving us did not smile once; they were not in the least welcoming. Reasonably priced; atmosphere and facilities weren't that good. I'd order takeaway from them rather than dine in.

Worst experience ever! This place should close down! The food was horrible but was overshadowed by the worst service! The lady pulling the yum cha cart seriously should look up what a smile and customer service means.

Not good enough!. The food is nothing special but edible (that's what my dog would say if he could speak).

Bad manner. I told captain/owner that he was charging small kid for a tea cup! he was quickly annoyed and blamed me for not telling him in the first place.

Food was below average, in fact I have completely lost appetite and mood for the day.

The owner should go back to school and learn some basic manner! Shocking service!

Great food overshadowed by rude service. Went in for some family lunch on after hearing how good the dim sum was at this place. While we were impressed with the food, the service left something to be desired. The woman at the cashier was especially rude to us, and it seemed like she was very rude to other customers as well. Such a pity as the food was actually quite decent.

Past Use by Date. Yummy's was a family favourite a few years ago but my past few visits here were so shockingly horrible I refuse to return. Our last dinner was unacceptable on every level!! The staff were abrupt and rude. The dishes took forty minutes to arrive with some of them wrong to how we asked and one dish they forgot about. When asked about it the waitress rudely remarked "ITS STILL COOKING AND WILL COME WHEN COMES!" and stormed off. The dishes were very small servings and below average in quality. The worst was the satay that was so dry and shriveled the kids spat it out. There wasn't even any music on, the floors were oily and just to top it off we were over-charged with no apology. Unless serious changes are made Yummy's is well over their 'use-by date'

SOUR UNFRIENDLY STAFF AND LAST BAD EXPERIENCE. Went in a large group for dinner and placed a large order with intentions for us all too share. 1st upset we watched three other groups who came in after us being served their meals, 2nd upset after 45 minutes our food started coming but only one dish at a time with 5 to 10 minutes between each dish by this time we were all so hungry that we finished each dish before the next one was served. 3rd upset we asked about certain dishes if they contain some ingredients and they just say "YES...YES" and when the dish is served it doesn't I think they have trouble with English and just say yes to keep you happy. 4th upset the restaurant has no atmosphere with it being old inside dirty windows greasy floors unfriendly staff and no music.
Most of the food is quite nice but I can't recommend any dish as it is hit and miss and make sure you ask for an itemized receipt as we have been overcharged in the past.
Be careful ordering tea as if you do they will charge you per head of everyone at the table irregardless if they are having it or not including small children
Yummy was the best around 2010 and after this family dinner with bad service hit and miss food and sour unfriendly staff it will defiantly be the last

Went there and was charged mysterious price without receipt, can't figure how did the grumpy boss calculate the total.when I questioned him, I was teased that I can't even afford to buy a meal for my girlfriend.the first and the last for me.I will rely on this app to see the review next time before going to a new restaurant.

Yum cha, poor quality!. Was disappointed to find that the Yum cha recommended on this site was poor quality, the food was oily the meat chewy and doesn't compare to Yum cha restaurants in Northbridge. The service was fast n friendly however more expensive than it's competitors.

Cheats. I have been going to this place for YEARS....And only until i saw the reviews on urbanspoon about the owners cheating on the final bill price did I notice it myself...
Just to call a bluff a friend and i went there recently And I wasnt too hungry so I ordered only two plates of dim sum (chee chong fun & prawn dumping) and my friend (vegetarian) ordered a vege chow mein and we got each a sago dessert after....THIS MEAL...came to $40.00.....REALLY?? each dim sum plate is under 5 bucks at other restaurants and sago...seriously...cant cost as much as it did...Given the chow mein cld be $10bucks but the rest? RIDICULOUS...TOTALLY BOYCOTTING THEM now....pity...their food is soo yummmy

Hit & Miss. The two of us opted for dim sum on a Monday for lunch and since trying to get lunch anywhere on a Monday always seems to be a hard task we were just glad to eat!!

The food here was actually quite tasty and for the most part seemed reasonably fresh. They had plenty of choice but they advertise the sizes as small, medium, large and "special" with prices advertised as ranging from about $3.50- 5.90 per dish but for some reason the fried squid came to about $8 and despite ordering about 6 dishes in total none were considered anything but large?

Service is adequate but certainly not friendly or attentive and I'm not sure that cleaning the table across from us with a patrons left over Chinese green tea actually qualifies as "cleaning". Be prepared to say no multiple times as they tended to have a habit of placing food on your table every few minutes whether you want it or not.

Overall: good food, very quick, poor service and questionable & creative pricing.

Stay away. We used to eat there for years, the food was great so we tolerated the racist owner. But we go rarely as food was declining, tables were dirty etc. Tonight (Friday) we went, there was only one other person there and we grabbed a takeaway, The Mongolian lamb was rancid, the satay beef was like rubber, the roast pork was swimming in oil and everything else was bland and old, shriveled peas, shiny meat save your money there are better places with better prices
Crabcancer
Overpriced, overrated, over MSGed!. Pop in to this place for some dim sum as it was nearby for a catch up with friends. Like all the other reviewers, they really overpriced their dishes. We had about 12 dishes. None of them were small or medium. All were large or bigger. Which really adds up considering they charge $5.30 for a large dish.

So for example, a serve of 2 BBQ pork buns works out to be $2.75 each! Most other establishments charge about $4.50. And their tau fu far (bean curd dessert) was also a large! Every other establishment charged it as a small. So basically about 75%-100% extra.

And the service is nothing less than shocking. Server person walks around with food on tray. You look at tray and she starts placing stuff on the table. When you say you are just looking at what is available and don't really want any, you get a dirty look. If you do actually want something, plate gets put on table, server person points at docket and either mumbles or shouts at you to pass the docket to her. Oh, excuse me for paying your salary!

Another sticking point is the lack of general awareness of the serving staff. Lazy Susan was empty in the middle and I expect the serving staff to place our dishes in the middle to be shared. But of course not. That would dictate the usage of logic. She instead proceed to put the plate on to of the saucer of chili oil and when I stop her, she told me that I could have moved it prior to her placing the plate on the table. Again, what the heck?

And the coup de grace, they charge $1.90 per person for chinese tea. In my previous review, I praised Canning River Cafe for taking a stand that hot water is not expensive. Over here at Yummy BBQ, I would think that Yummy BBQ must be serving hot water that is extracted from some obscure spring in the Himalayas that needs to be air flowed to Perth and costs human lives during the extraction process. They even charge my boy who is 6 and our friend's daughter who is 5. Looking in retrospect, if I was to pay $14 for 2 pots of Himalayas spring water, I would have expected more than a sprinkling of chinese tea leaves.
Heck! For the $14, I could have gone to T2 and got pai mu tan (Gourmet chinese tea leaves which is $22 for a 50 gram serve).

Anybody who wants to know what MSG after effects are should definitely eat here. The family spend the rest of the afternoon and evening searching for water like a pack of camels. Even my boy who absolutely refuses to drink water put away close to 1.5 litres.

In summation, at $5.30 a pop for a dish, save your money and go to McDonalds just a few steps away. At least you know what you are getting in McDonalds and if nothing else, the kids get a toy!
Mythoughtsexactly
Overpriced?!?!?. Went in today for lunch (dim sum) with 3 other mates, had no more than 10 dishes and was billed $76... sounds dodgy... i hardly think a dish would cost around $8 each but hey at this place anything is possible, Im suprised they didnt charge us another $30 for sitting in their restaurant. Yummy BBQ, dont expect us back.

Went with 6 people on a Friday might and had a good experience. Food came out promptly, was delicious and had the option to get a few yum cha dishes with main courses. Everything was really fresh and the service was prompt. I will go here again!

Disappointed, disgraced, unbelieveable shocking restaurant.

Just keep driving. If you can't say anything nice, then say nothing at all. Thats true for most things but when it comes to consumers and spending money it's best to voice your warning. 10 years of yum cha and this is close to the worst i have had. To it's credit some dishes were tasty but if you leave dim sum rating the tea as the best dish then something is wrong. It doesn't help when everything that came out was luke warm or cold. They seem to not want to use the trolleys which would help keep the food warm. Walking around with it on a plate for 10mins is not ideal. They seem to usher those who are not asian into one corner and then offer you the same 4 or 5 safe dishes over and over again. Upon leaving the grumpy owner smashes away at a calculator and then comes up with $38 for 6 dishes. REALLY?? Questioning the price only seems to make him grumpier but it's a small price to pay to know that i'll never return.
We all left wishing we had just kept driving.

Terrible!! We were seated in the furthest corner of the restaurant. Everything came out stone cold and we were offered the same 4 dishes over and over again. We also got overcharged. Won't be going there again.

Tasty but be warned. Yummy BBQ house is my regular local yum cha joint and on most occasions the food is tasty and satisfying. Be warned though, the (usually scowling) owner has a nasty habit of adding some mystery dollars to the bill. Yummy has the annoying strategy of not including the dish price on the yum cha order form, so make sure you ask. After disputing the bill more than once , I have no doubt that this is a deliberate ploy as most people will be too trusting. My wife and I regularly noticed great discrepancies in our bill when comparing visits, and the owners explanations and sudden number fiddling don't fill us with confidence about his honesty. Still, the food is good and there are delicious, unique dishes.available during dinner service.

I was charged 28 dollar for a mere 3 dishes and a 600ml mineral water last time, overcharged, when I asked the boss, he showed face, i will never return.i understand the feeling when I read that customers were overcharged mysterious price there, just be warned about this place.

-----29 Sep, 2011-----

The boss is not friendly and the dim sim is not fresh at all, with unreasonable price.doesn't know why people give good review.

Yummy Yum Cha near Freo. For those novices unfamiliar with the ritual of yum cha, this Hong Kong style offering of dumplings, fried squid tentacles and other tasty offerings all washed down with chinese tea is ADDICTIVE! Long lines on weekends mean you need to get there for 11 am sharp! Staff are patient with western clumsiness and endless 'what is that?' Ask for the fresh chilli and soy sauce to enhance the delicious flavours. A family tradition in the making!

3 course Peking duck winner. Complementary watermelon drink on arrival nice touch,
but , did need to be chilled.
Myself and 4 friends all enjoyed our meals on the night . The winning meal of the night the 3 course Peking Duck cooked to perfection used the whole Duck, over the 3 courses.
Its worth checking this out.

Never going back. We had yong tau foo during yam cha which was tough and tasteless, fried squid was chewy and soggy. When we asked for fried squid, the boss man response "O you will get it when it is here we won't hide it you know?? When we asked to have piles of dishes cleared from table, senior waitress said "Some one else will do it" Waitress dropped fried squid down the back of someone at our table. Aircon near our table was cascading water when it was on. What an experience.
